  • Zenses: Soothing in an angry sort of way

Okay, listen. Just who is responsible for the idea that females -- note, no specification of age or tastes there, just the entire gender -- only like a certain type of game? And why do publishers feel the need to tell us, repeatedly, "ladies, this game's for you?" Perhaps we can't be trusted to make our own decisions about what is and isn't fun. Never mind all those chicks playing Guitar Hero and RPGs and even -- gasp -- first person shooters. If you're female, it's either Imagine Babyz if you're under fifteen, or puzzle games if you're over. That's scientific fact.So why do I feel so unimpressed by the purportedly-relaxing Zenses: Rainforest? Maybe, unlike Zenses: Ocean, it's not "designed specifically to appeal to females." Either way, this female feels a little more inclined to turn to Puchi Puchi Virus for her dot-connecting needs. Maybe it's the trippy art style. Maybe it's the fact that they're not trying to tell me to like anything (except Disgaea, apparently). Or maybe that's just my personal taste, resulting from an ability to make decisions without being guided in one way or another. Now it's your turn to do the same: check out the screenshots and see if Zenses: Rainforest is up your alley. It does look relaxing, and perhaps worthwhile, now that all the rage and bile is cleared out. See? The relaxation bit is working already.P.S. You boys can look, too. It's okay. We won't tell.%Gallery-27954%

  • Rubik's World looks neat, is presumably a game of some kind

The first screens of Rubik's World, the puzzle game based on the colorful cube (which is, of course, a decorative item only, and not a solvable puzzle) show a beautiful, stark white environment and items made of Rubik's Cube components -- and no information at all about what the game is or how you would play it. Do you build a Rubik's Tree? Do you arrange parts into the shape of a tree? Do you throw a ball at it and knock it over? We're going to have faith that this is a game and not merely a 3D block building kit.The press release accompanying the game refers to stuff like living "Cubies" you can interact with, music composition, and unspecified puzzles of some kind, as well as the classic Cube gameplay. We hope that whatever this turns out to be is as cool as it looks, because we could spend quite a bit of time staring at what basically amounts to 3D pixel structures.

This blogger is more likely to throw a Rubik's Cube into a raging fire than make a realistic attempt at solving one, but surely some of you superfreaks readers out there enjoy the challenge. It's for people like you that Rubik's World was conceived, as it combines the iconic 1980s toy with modern-day technology. This piece of software by The Game Factory promises "extremely addictive" puzzles that involve constructing 3D objects (therefore, you needn't worry, it won't simply be a virtual Rubik's Cube game). The press release also mentions navigating through mazes and creating your own soundtrack, the latter of which piques our interest.Local multiplayer will support up to four players, but sadly, there will be no online play (aside from picture swapping and leader boards).

We suspect that most of you are indifferent to Code Lyoko and the games based on this series, but in case we're wrong, we've got some details on the upcoming sequel for the DS.Based on the fourth season of the show, the game stars the big-headed kids of Code Lyoko, who must defeat the virus Xana. Thanks to the title Fall of Xana, though, you can pretty much guess how it ends. The features of the game include four playable characters and real-time combat. There are also four different multiplayer modes, but we're not sure what the differences are between them.Have any of you actually tried the first Code Lyoko for the DS (or perhaps the version that was made for the Wii)? Somehow, we doubt it, but if so, tell us what you thought.[Via GoNintendo]

Mice.On bikes. From Mars, y'all. The animated series following the trio of -- you guessed it -- biker mice (from Mars) first aired in 1993. The show, often compared to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, aired for three seasons. An all new series kicked off this year in the U.K., and who could resist an accompanying DS game? The title, scheduled for early next year, features racing and fighting, because that's what biker mice (from Mars) do best. Especially when it comes to saving the a world.Couple of screenshots, courtesy of DS-x2, tucked away after the jump.
