Cult Swedish developer Simogo is making its first game for the Nintendo Switch in Sayonara Wild Hearts, a glam arcade title that dances to its own musical beat. The trailer dropped during The Game Awards on Thursday evening, serving as an introduction to the game's eclectic cast of characters based on tarot cards.

Redbox's new "Redbox Instant by Verizon" video streaming service has moved out of beta and is now available to Xbox Live Gold subscribers. • Lawsuit alleging copyright infringement in Assassin's Creed dropped, Gametrailers settles

Novelist John Beiswenger has dropped the lawsuit against Ubisoft, in which he alleged the Assassin's Creed universe stole ideas from one of his books, Link. Gametrailers, whom Beiswenger sued in the same case, settled with the author on May 18 under undisclosed terms.Beiswenger voluntarily dismissed all action against Ubisoft before any formal adjudication on the validity of his claims could begin - the Internet made up its mind about his claims a while ago. Beiswenger has dropped the case, citing the expense of federal litigation:"I filed the Complaint and Motion for Preliminary Injunction in federal court because I believe authors should vigorously defend their rights in their creative works; otherwise, the laws protecting them simply have no purpose," Beiswenger's official statement reads. "Regrettably, the resources required to defend those rights are unavailable to many individual creators. As a result, rampant infringement is occurring with impunity."Beiswenger was seeking $5.25 million in damages and the potential cessation of all Assassin's Creed endeavors, including the third game currently due out in October. Beiswenger filed the dismissal "without prejudice," meaning he can pick up the claims and the case again in the future. If he ever does, we don't think Ubisoft will sweat it too much; the Internet has already done most of the debunking already, unless Beiswenger can somehow prove that he owns the rights to "spiritual and biblical tones" or "assassinations."

American author John Beiswenger has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Ubisoft and Gametrailers that claims the Assassin's Creed franchise stole core ideas from Beiswenger's novel, Link. Link was published in 2002 and the first Assassin's Creed game dropped in 2007.Beiswenger claims the Animus in Assassin's Creed is a direct copy of his Link device, which allows users to access ancestral memories and relive specific moments in history, much as the Animus does. Beiswenger says his novel discusses "assassinations" and has "spiritual and biblical tones" also found in Assassin's Creed. And then there's the battle between good and evil that Beiswenger says Assassin's Creed stole right from the pages of Link.Beiswenger is suing Gametrailers for the Assassin's Creed trailers that he says infringe on the same Link copyright. There are 11 counts against Ubisoft and Gametrailers in total, and only most of them made us laugh.Beiswenger is seeking up to $5.25 million in damages and a cessation of further copyright infringement. We're pretty sure that second part is already happening, so perhaps Beiswenger will get something out of all this paperwork after all.

We've already heard about James Vega, one of the new companions for Commander Shepard in Mass Effect 3, and now we know that when you hear him it'll be Sarah Michelle Gellar's husband talking. Freddie Prinze, Jr. has signed on as the voice for the rambunctious soldier companion, and talks about his role in this official video from BioWare, which you can watch below. He also waxes poetic about the characters in the series overall, saying that "sometimes you want to be evil. Sometimes you want to punch somebody instead of saying, 'You should have been there.'" Hey, Cole Ortiz -- remember in day eight when you messed up and lost both Jack Bauer and the nuclear rods to the terrorists? Yeah, about that. You should have been there.

  • EEDAR releases preliminary E3 interest stats

    06.26.2010

Electronic Entertainment Design and Research (EEDAR) has released a report listing various attention metrics from gamers from two sites, GameTrailers and IGN.com, regarding the most "popular" titles from E3. We put "popular" in quotes there because these stats are for things like trailer streaming and page views rather than a scientific survey -- this is a general feel of the zeitgeist on these two specific sites rather than a comprehensive view of what gamers thought of E3. But there are interesting things to note even in this limited set of stats, especially when you compare it to our own anecdotal show floor and "chatter" data from you commenters. We heard from quite a few of you during the show that Nintendo's press conference was the most popular event, and this list agrees. Likewise, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword was one of the most popular titles on the show floor, and there's no shortage of Link representation here. Kirby's Epic Yarn is probably the biggest unannounced-before E3 title on the lists, and Marvel vs. Capcom 3 captured a lot of attention -- not much was revealed at the show itself, but it was placed front and center on the floor of the West Hall. At the same time, there are some weird conclusions here. World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, an expansion which didn't even make an appearance at E3, registered in the top 20 in the GameTrailers stats and Red Dead Redemption, a game that's already out, picked up spot No. 8 on IGN's Page Views list of big E3 titles. EEDAR also notes that the Nintendo 3DS didn't rank on any of these lists, but given the lines at the Nintendo booth to see it, the new handheld garnered plenty of attention. So you can't really bank on these titles yet. But if you're interested, you can check out EEDAR's top 10 in each category after the break.

  • Funcom teases new Secret World trailer

We here at Massively aren't ashamed to admit that we're looking forward to The Secret World. Between our sit-down with Ragnar Tornquist at GDC10 and the juicy bits of into slowly making their way out of the game's unofficial web sites, we're, to put it mildly, stoked. GameTrailers.com has just fed the fire by unveiling the new trailer for Funcom's forthcoming MMORPG, which looks to be a modern riff on Lovecraft-ian horror mythology mixed with a little conspiracy theory. The new trailer features a healthy dose of story-based voiceover, glimpses of combat gameplay, and oh yeah, player characters shooting fire from their hands and hacking away with samurai swords. If this footage is any indication, the game will make its mark with a unique combination of class-less progression and atmospheric visuals. That said, don't take our word for it. As the trailer says, "go on kid, saddle up. The end of the world waits for no man." Hit the jump to check it out. [Thanks to everyone who tipped us!]

We frequently see the words produced by gaming industry superanalyst Michael Pachter -- however, a new piece of programming on GameTrailers gives us the rare opportunity to hear them straight from the man himself. Yes, a new video segment titled "Pach-Attack" gives the technoprophet his own soapbox from which he can voice his opinions and say his sooths, all presented in crystal-clear HD video. We've embedded the inaugural episode of Pach-Attack after the jump. If you happen to check it out, you'll need to keep reminding yourself that the casually-buttoned gentleman you're viewing isn't actually Don Johnson.

Let's just get this out of the way right off the bat -- there is no word on a Hellgate game release for, or return to, any of the Western markets. Still, some of us quite enjoyed playing Hellgate: London or saw the potential in it, and would like to see this happen. Back when Hellgate: London was new and held some promise as a good mix of horror and sci-fi, a few of the writers here envisioned how the game might expand if it were successful. Monikers like Hellgate: Hong Kong, Hellgate: New York, and such were mentioned. As was Hellgate: Tokyo, only it seems this one is actually going to happen... for Asia. Our Korean is rusty non-existent but the (very brief) Hellgate: Tokyo teaser indicates a 2010 release. Fans of Hellgate: London -- we know there must be a few of you out there somewhere -- can find the video over at GameTrailers.

[Image Source] Joining games the likes of Halo: Reach and 2K's new Spec Ops debuting at this year's Spike Video Game Awards is a new installment in the Tron franchise. It's not the first time we've heard of the game -- it was rumored to be in development back in January of this year. Still, its existence is confirmed by an all-too-brief teaser at GameTrailers, which promises a proper unveiling at Spike's awards show on Saturday, December 12. Based on the teaser, the game may simply be titled Tron -- although the logo and art style found in the footage are very similar to that of the upcoming movie sequel, Tron: Legacy. We'll find out exactly what to expect on the Game Grid in just a little over two weeks' time. For now, check out the teaser after the break. [Via That Videogame Blog]

You've likely been hearing reports about Bayonetta's graphically inferior PS3 version for quite some time -- now, you can see the two versions of the title side-by-side in a GameTrailers comparison video in order to make an educated decision for yourself. It's posted after the jump, and is rated NSFW due to brief partial nudity, blood and terrifying hair monsters. For a more in-depth look at the game's graphical non-parity, check out Digital Foundry's collection of comparison videos as well. After studying up, let us know what you think in the comments -- provided "what you think" doesn't include any inappropriate musings on these videos' lustier segments.

Over the past few years, Haloid and Dead Fantasy animator Monty Oum has repeatedly shocked us with his studio's stunning renditions of Samus Aran fighting Master Chief, as well as various Final Fantasy femme fatales battling their busty counterparts from the Dead or Alive series. Today is no different, as he pits FFVII's Tifa against Dead or Alive's Hitomi. An epic battle taking place in a church set ablaze while snow quietly falls outside? Some sort of magical, glowing orbs introduced mid-fight? And it involves Japanese video game characters? Weird! Check out the whole girlfight after the break.[Via Insulin Funk]

As the shooter-MMO hybrid Global Agenda enters closed beta this month, the team at Hi-Rez Studios has begun to release more videos showing off gameplay footage. John Walker over at Rock, Paper, Shotgun hunted down and rounded up the new videos from Gametrailers, which give us a good look at how the game is shaping up. The first video shows off the character creation process, with a cut scene explaining your introduction to the world, trapped and floating in a cloning tank monitored by machines, then rescued by armored human allies. That's followed up by footage of other character creation options in Global Agenda, from the look of your agent's body to armor customization, as well as showing how large and open the game's social hubs will be. Even better, there are two more videos that show off Global Agenda's combat, demonstrating both co-op gameplay and PvP. We've got video embeds of the combat footage after the jump:

Last night's E3ified GameTrailers TV gave us our first glimpse at the gameplay featured in Aliens vs Predator, one of three (four?) Sega-published Aliens-based games currently in development. While the cuts between the show's world exclusive-filled host and the game only serve to frustrate our urge for more Alien murderin', Predator pouncin' gameplay, we get what we get and we don't get upset. As the clip of gameplay is sneakily embedded within an interview during the show, we've got no standalone clip to offer after the jump, but instead a suggestion to click right here to check out the thing for yourself. You just can't keep a good Spectre down, and the first human Spectre -- one Commander Shepard -- is no exception. In a new E3 trailer for BioWare's highly anticipated Mass Effect 2, we learn that Shepard's fate isn't as grim as we were led to believe. In fact, it looks like he -- or she -- will be resuming dual duties of kicking ass and taking names when the sequel releases in early 2010.Head past the break to check out the new gameplay footage.

    05.29.2009

Of the many trailers shown on tonight's GameTrailers TV, Split/Second stands out as the only one where gameplay involves avoiding a plane landing in front of you at high speed. And that makes it all the more exciting! From Blackrock Studios, the company whose prez said this game would refresh the 'dying' racing genre, we were already wondering if the next racer after Pure could be even better. Though the premise given through voice over in the trailer (after the break) comes off a bit hammy, we'll forgive it for the range of spectacle drizzled throughout the gameplay. Unfortunately it looks like we won't be playing Split/Second until 2010 according to the trailer, but hopefully we'll get to check it out next week at E3!%Gallery-47488%

  • Reggie promises a better E3 from Nintendo this year ... again

    04.14.2009

Fresh off the announcement of The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks at GDC 2009, Nintendo of America head honcho Reggie Fils-Aime had some interesting things to say about Nintendo's plans for this year's E3. "From Nintendo's perspective, we always go into E3 with a very high bar wanting to satisfy not only the core fans but also ourselves," he told GameTrailers TV, teasing the reveal of a release date for the upcoming Zelda. "We haven't announced a launch date -- maybe we'll do that at E3."So, conclusive evidence of a brand new Kid Icarus game? Not quite. Though Keighley hammered "the Regginator" for details on what exactly Nintendo would be bringing to the "glamour and sizzle" fest of this year's E3, the exec kept mum, saying, "Everyone wants to know what we're going to announce at E3 and my answer is, come to E3 and you'll see." Guess we're waiting 'til June 2 like everyone else.[Via Play.tm]

  • Punch-Out!! trailer introduces 'Giga Mac,' multiplayer mode

    04.13.2009

Nintendo has officially announced (via GameTrailers) an ... interesting looking ... multiplayer mode for upcoming Wii game, Punch-Out!! Hidden after a full minute of the Punch-Out!! trailer we've already seen is the entirely new minute, containing news of not only the modestly named "Head-to-Head" mode but also "Giga Mac" (pictured above).Gleaning what we can from the trailer, we're wont to believe that the large version of Little Mac is a direct product of well-placed punches filling up a "super" meter next to each players respective health bars. Nintendo clearly wants us to know the appearance of "Giga Mac" isn't a game ender for multiplayer, though, as even in the video (after the break) Little Mac prevails against his gargantuan twin. We're looking forward to finding out even more about Punch-Out!! when it arrives on May 18.
