As Sega attempts to tie up the long-running (typically late-to-translation) Yakuza series, its producer has revealed that the sixth iteration will have plenty of ridiculous mini-games and side jobs, offering some mundane distractions from the boot-to-face Japanese gangster brawls that typically make up a large part of the games. While calming a weepy baby is certainly dull IRL, if you're a speedy enough typer (through your DualShock controller) you'll be able to charm webcam girls online -- for those days when the protagonist can't quite make it to his regular hostess club. And that's just for starters.

  • China goes gangbusters on games (literally)

The Chinese government is cracking down on those darn computer games and intertron sites, Rueters reports, with a focus on those that feature gangs or ganglike stuff. While the situation has yet to reach Shark or Jet-sized proportions in the country, the Culture Ministry says these games and any sites that feature them "undermine morality and Chinese traditional culture." A recent report says that heavier penalties will be given to violators and contributes more on the country's stance, stating that these kinds of games "encourage people to deceive, loot and kill, and glorify gangsters' lives. It has a bad influence on youngsters." Wow, sound like Jack Thompson much?It makes sense. Of course a Communist country would have a problem with anything that glorifies groups that aren't Communist. We do agree with the age thing, though. If you're a parent and you let your young kids play games with adult themes, you fail.

Correct us if we're wrong (and we know you will, you clever lot), but 1930's-era gangster fiction is a genre that hasn't been explored in MMOs -- until now. Nemesis Studios Entertainment is a relatively new game company that's hard at work on Goon World, an MMO set in a world where warring Mafia-like crime organizations run rampant. While details are vague owing to this early stage of development, you can read an interview conducted with the team at the Warcry Network, and the official site has an FAQ that delineates some of the pertinent features. Will this title, along with APB, usher in a new era of MMOs, away from the overwhelming fantasy/science fiction mode? Will Goon World make you an offer you can't refuse? It could be a contender ...

Another month, another handful of HD VOD updates from Comcast. This go 'round, the carrier's looking to help you vent your tax day frustrations by offering up a suite of anti-establishment, gangster-themed flicks in brilliant high-definition. Most notably, American Gangster and The Godfather trilogy will be available to subscribers in HD, and just in case the aforementioned titles are a bit too dark for your tastes, you can also tune into MTV's Real World: Season 20 premier a week prior to it airing on MTV. Sure, we would've preferred a price cut for the month to help cope, but we 'spose this will have to do.[Image courtesy of Universal / Entertainment Wallpaper]

  • PS3 hopefuls shot with BB's at Kentucky Best Buy

If you thought shacking up outside of a Best Buy in near-freezing temperatures (say, Ann Arbor, Michigan) for nearly two weeks is hardcore, imagine how folks waiting in Lexington, Kentucky felt when a drive-by shooter let the pellets fly into a group of PS3 hopefuls. Apparently bitter and distraught from not getting their name on a (shaky) pre-order list, enraged suspects drove by a Best Buy on Nicholasville Road and "injured four people with BB pellets," including a news reporter who was conducting an interview with one of the campers. Although none of the folks were seriously injured, we can't help but wonder who pulls off a drive-by shooting with cameras rolling, and moreover, did the "mildly wounded" individuals waiting in line forfeit their position to visit a hospital? The soldier in us says negative.[Via digg]

Aw snap, it looks like we've got some hot new competition in the um, all-in-one LCD/gaming console/sound system market. H3Enterprises -- the "first publicly traded company dedicated to the hip hop culture and lifestyle" -- is getting set to unveil its mysterious (albeit very gangster) H3TV on SpikeTV's "Video Game Awards." While the press release is quite ambiguous in describing the actual device, we're told that this off-the-hook unit will boast "the highest resolution in the industry" (likely 1080p), house "multiple Xbox 360 consoles" (saywha?), and include GenAudio's 4D "Astound Sound" -- which is proudly dubbed "the finest sound system available anywhere." The "multi-functional computerized television display" is slated to hit the company's own webstore, as well as be available through special deals with Mitsubishi and Circuit City, real soon. Hopefully H3Enterprises will hit us up with some juicy specifications soon enough, but until then, we'll just hope its stock rises above the ten cents per share mark that it's currently sitting at -- ya know, so they can actually afford to mass produce this dealio.[Via IGN]

Up for a little Grand Theft Demo? Pre-ordering the sinfully similar Saints Row at certain Toys 'r' Us and Gamestop stores now gets you a disc with the following gangster goodies: Saints Row Demo Saints Row Trailer Making Of Video Art Gallery Music Tracks Downloads (gamer pics and theme) K1lla's Xbox Domain has a bunch of impressions from people who have played the demo, which appears to be a technically impressive, if not grand, car-jacking experience with plenty of cursing and derivative gameplay. Now for the question even Tommy Vercetti is asking: Why the f isn't this stuff on Xbox Live Marketplace?
