The third piece of story DLC for Muramasa Rebirth is now available to download for $4.99. Titled "A Spirited Seven Nights' Haunting," the chapter stars the ninja Arashimaru, who is on a quest to survive after receiving a curse that limits his life to seven days. Armed with a sickle and kunai, players can tackle both new and old enemies as Arashimaru and also summon the snake-like spirit threatening to kill him in order to overwhelm enemies. The Genroku Legends series of four downloadable episodes for Muramasa Rebirth was announced in November and features new characters and stories with each entry. The first chapter, "Fishy Tales of the Nekomata" arrived in January followed by the second episode, "A Cause to Daikon For," in February. Muramasa Rebirth launched in June 2013 as the Vita port of Vanillaware's original Wii game, Muramasa: The Demon Blade. The game is free for PlayStation Plus subscribers to download this month. Muramasa Rebirth fans nearly have a fresh excuse to rack up more combos, as the game's third piece of DLC will land in North America on July 15, with a European arrival following on July 16. Siliconera reports that both dates for "A Spirited Seven Nights' Haunting" were announced by publisher Aksys at this week's Anime Expo. Seven Nights' Haunting will focus on Arashimaru, the black-haired ninja in the above trailer sporting red athletic tape and a kusarigama, which is basically a sickle on a chain. Aside from firecracker-like projectiles and kunai, Siliconera notes that Arashimaru can also summon a white serpent called Shirohebi, which appears to be the beast seen at 1:08 in the trailer. While a price for Seven Nights' Haunting wasn't mentioned, Rebirth's previous pieces of DLC were $4.99 each, so that at least gives us a sense of what to expect. One last chapter should follow Seven Nights' Haunting, as Rebirth's announced DLC is all involved in a four-part "Genroku Legends" set of episodes. [Image: Marvelous]

The second downloadable addition for PlayStation-exclusive 2D action game Muramasa Rebirth has been unveiled, and instead of more samurai combat, players are thrust into the role of a lowly dirt farmer. Entitled Genroku Legends – A Cause to Daikon For, the DLC casts players as Gonbe, a widowed farmer who grows weary of the local lord taxing his village to death. Instead of instituting democratic elections, Gonbe opts to solve things the old-fashioned way. Unfortunately for this assault, Gonbe isn't much of a trained warrior so the weapons he carries with him into battle are repurposed farm implements. Genroku Legends - A Cause to Daikon For is slated for release on the North American PlayStation Network Store come February 25. A European release will follow the next day. Aksys has yet to announce a price point for this DLC offering. [Image: Aksys Games]

Aksys Games launched the first of the Genroku Legends DLC for Muramasa Rebirth this week on PSN, and on January 22 in Europe. Announced in November 2013, the Fishy Tales of the Nekomata downloadable episode puts players in control of a girl named Okoi, who is possessed by Miike, a nekomata. Okoi avenges the death of her brother using her cat-like claws and demon powers to summon "hordes of cat allies" to battle alongside her. Basically, it's cat DLC. Fishy Tales of the Nekomata is the first of four Genroku Legends episodes coming this year to Muramasa Rebirth, each starring a different character. This week's episode has two endings and a slew of new bosses for players to paw at. Muramasa Rebirth launched in June 2013 as a PS Vita port of the original Vanillaware-developed Wii game, Muramasa: The Demon Blade. The Fishy Tales of the Nekomata DLC is priced at $4.99 on PSN.

Muramasa Rebirth, the PS Vita upgrade to Vanillaware's excellent hack-and-slash platformer for the Wii, will receive some additional content starting next year. Through the "Genroku Legends" DLC, Aksys will add a series of four episodes starring four new characters. The DLC was initially announced as a Japan exclusive and will launch there on November 7. The first episode is called "Fishy Tales of the Nekomata" and centers around a prized tea set that must be delivered to the shogun in Edo. "Fishy Tales" stars Okoi, a woman with cat-like claws, and her feline companion Miike, with whom she can fuse for added abilities. Okoi will have her own specialized skill tree in lieu of Muramasa Rebirth's forging system where players use gathered souls to craft new weapons. And of course there will be a slew of new bad guys to slay and characters to meet, all of which are inspired by Japanese folklore. Once "Fishy Tales" has been completed, Okoi can go into the base game and take on its bosses. The four episodes will launch at different times, Aksys tells Joystiq, and will be sold separately. Aksys has yet to determine whether it will offer all four episodes in a bundle, as well as exact pricing for "Genroku Legends."
