Welcome to yet another Wednesday XBLA update. This week the Arcade gets Go! Go! Break Steady and the revamped classic 1942: Joint Strike. Each clocking in at 800MS points both are now available for download from the Xbox Live Marketplace. Go! Go! Break Steady is a rhythm title that sports 30 levels of break dancing action alone or with up to one other player over Xbox Live. 1942: Joint Strike brings the classic shooter into a 3D environment as you maneuver WWII-era aircrafts and take on huge waves of incoming enemy fire which can be played cooperatively over Xbox Live. Capcom continues its retro revival on XBLA this Wednesday with the release of 1942: Joint Strike. Developed by Backbone Entertainment (Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 and the upcoming Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix), the game is a classic two-player, top-down shooter set against the backdrop of an alternate WWII where laser cannons and building-sized tanks are commonplace. It's landing at 800 MS points ($10). Go! Go! Break Steady is a rhythm puzzle game set against the backdrop of an alternate WWII– er, actually it's a breakdancing themed puzzler from indie dev Little Boy Games. We first checked out this XNA-to-XBLA success story at GDC '08. You can pop and/or lock to your heart's content for 800 MS points ($10). If you don't care for the trial game, you can always use the $10 to support your local youth center, which was likely saved by breakdancers in the '80s. %Gallery-18258% %Gallery-16353%

  • Go! Go! Break Steady site update and video

We haven't seen much of the XBLA rhythm game from new studio Little Boy Games since its announcement around GDC. From the video the game seems to borrow heavily from many other rhythm games, but tries to do its own thing by incorporating characters, style, and slightly more varied mechanics. Since the game looks relatively deep, our main concern at this point is the games ability to find and hold an audience. With the production value of the trailer and the new site, it would be a shame to see such an enthusiastic effort fail. Supposedly a summer release title, Go! Go! Break Steady looks to be well on track, and should with luck find its niche in the untapped Live Arcade rhythm game market.[Via GamerBytes]

As part of the whirlwind GDC announcement fest that went on yesterday, we sort of lacked the time and energy to organize all the screenshots we obtained from Microsoft's Summer release Arcade press kits. But we've had our beauty sleep, drank our morning cup of coffee and diligently put together new XBLA galleries and added screenshots to old ones. So, if you take a looksy after the break, you'll see new screenshots galore for XBLA games including Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, Braid, Schizoid and Go! Go! Break Steady. Enjoy the media as we take a quick break to refill our coffee.

Though not officially announced yet according to developer Little Boy Games' website, we had a chance to pick up and try out Go! Go! Break Steady at the XNA bar in Moscone Center North. The rhythm game is reminiscent -- in both gameplay and title -- of Boom! Boom! Rocket. We picked our character (the bespectacled brothah on the left in the above picture) and proceeded to press the according buttons and as they quickly scrolled from right to left on the screen. One mistake would result in a failure for that sequence and we'd be told to "try again" with a new, somewhat easier sequence. We didn't fare too well with the game; more often than not, our avatar fell on his butt in disgrace. (In our defense, the music volume was very low and drowned by the adjacent console playing Mass Effect.) We wish the buttons that scrolled on the screen also had corresponding arrows; dance pad compatibility would add to the replayability, as would guitar and drum controller support. It's hard to make a judgment given the lack of music, which will ultimately make or break the game. Go! Go! Break Steady is being planned for release this year.%Gallery-16353%
