Sony Ericsson's Cedar and Yendo phones leaked, vying for your attention
Oopsie! Looks like Sony Ericsson's become as leaky as BP's oil rig these days, although we can't say we're all that stirred up by this particular exposé. On the left we have the Cedar, which is much like its hippie GreenHeart cousin Naite but with a touch of SE's "human curvature" sculpting on the back. So yes, still a dumbphone. As for the little Yendo on the right, we won't blame you if you mistook it as the similarly-shaped X10 Mini -- even the UI looks strikingly alike, plus both are littered with similarly vast ranges of back cover options to suit your retinal taste. That said, there's been no mention on whether this Walkman phone also runs on Android, so until SE gives us a clue, we'll be looking elsewhere for the time being. Sony Ericsson's eco-loving Naite now available from Sony Style
Following availability on Rogers by just a handful of days, Sony Ericsson is now talking up availability of the simple Naite candybar down south of the border -- but it's not through a carrier this time. Instead, you'll need to stroll into your local Sony Style store (or order online) to get it unlocked and unsubsidized. Oftentimes that's a brutal situation financially, but seeing how the Naite is a rather low-end device, these guys are charging just $159 for the privilege of using a device touting a case made of 50 percent post-consumer recycled plastic and an ultra-eco charger. It's available right now -- a good backup phone, perhaps?
Rogers gets LG Pop, Fido goes green with Sony Ericsson Naite
Let's circle back and take a look at a couple of big handset launches in the Great White North this month, shall we? Rogers nabbed the LG Pop -- sans solar back -- for a mere CAD $19.99 (about $19) on three-year contract or CAD $174.99 ($166) commitment-free, living up to the phone's philosophy of taking full-touch awesomeness downmarket with a 3 megapixel cam and 3-inch WQVGA display. Next up, Rogers' value brand Fido added the Naite from Sony Ericsson -- the first GreenHeart-branded handset to land anywhere in North America -- for $25 on a two-year deal. The eco-focused candybar (which might tug on the heartstrings of ex-T610 owners) keeps it simple with a 2 megapixel camera, but still manages triband 3G and an integrated FM radio. Both are available now.
Sony Ericsson Aspen: first with Windows Mobile 6.5.3
It's finally here: Windows Mobile 6.5.3, the iterative finger-friendly Windows Mobile release that should have been wrapped into 6.5.0. The latest mobile wares from Microsoft come wrapped inside the Sony Ericsson Aspen (aka, Faith); a business-focused QWERTY candybar with 2.4-inch QVGA TFT touchscreen LCD, 3.2 megapixel camera, A-GPS with Google Maps, 3.5-mm audio jack, WiFi, and microSD expansion. This latest addition to Sony Ericsson's GreenHeart portfolio comes in black or white silver and packs quad-band GSM/EDGE with either HSPA 900/2100 or 850/900/2100 radios (depending on region). Available in Q2. Back to Windows Mobile 6.5.3 for a second, although this is a .dot.dot update it's actually a fairly significant move for Microsoft. For starters, this release now includes a more finger-friendly layout (no stylus needed even when digging deep into the OS), support for capacitive touchscreens (huzzah!), and acts as a platform to enable multitouch. Microsoft has also improved browser performance with faster page load times and better memory management while improving the pan and flick gestures and zoom and rotational speeds. Sony Ericsson Elm, Hazel, and VH700 stereo Bluetooth buds beef up vegan GreenHeart line
Who says tree-hugging has to be boring? Actually, Sony Ericsson's latest sets to join the eco-friendly GreenHeart line aren't anything special, but at least they don't slouch in the specs department -- both the Hazel slider and Elm candybar announced today feature 5 megapixel cams, GPS with geotagging, LED flashes, and dual-band HSPA on top of quadband EDGE. The real news, though, might be the introduction of SE's very first GreenHeart accessory -- the VH700 stereo Bluetooth headset -- which ponies up dual mics for improved call quality and micro-USB recharging. It'll hit in the first quarter of the year along with the Elm; the Hazel follows on in the second quarter.
Sony Ericsson J10 coming to the GreenHeart range?
As a general rule of thumb, we'd say that whenever you hear rumors of an Android-powered candybar with a numeric keypad, it's probably going to end in tears. Such might be the case with Sony Ericsson's codename "Susan," a device originally thought to accompany the X10 in the company's brand-spanking-new Android line but now apparently thought to be a simpler QVGA dumbphone coming to market as the J10 with WiFi and a 5 megapixel cam with flash. Not as exciting, no -- but the good news is that the phone should come in as a member of the GreenHeart line, meaning that it'll probably be made of eco-friendly materials and get packed in with an ultra-low or zero-power draw charger (when there's no phone attached, anyway). Granted, most of the pizzaz in Sony Ericsson's Naite GreenHeart phone is within, but there's still something special about peering at the exterior of a phone and just envisioning all that tree-hugging magic that's going on within. Sony Ericsson C901 and Naite GreenHeart phones can make a hippy smile
Hear about the green feel-good bandwagon? Yeah, well Sony Ericsson's on it, straw hat and all. Meet the first GreenHeart products bent on sustainability: the Nait and C901 GreenHeart candybars, MH300 GreenHeart headset, and EP300 GreenHeart charger. The GreenHeart label means reduced packaging, recycled plastics, waterborne paints, and an electronic in-phone manual instead of a paper booklet. The Naite even includes an Ecomate application with Carbon Footprint Calculator that shows how much CO2 you're saving while walking your fields of organic tie-dye ink. As for the phones, the C901 brings a 5 megapixel autofocus camera with Xenon flash and smile shutter tech when it lands in Q2 (hey, that ends this month) supporting GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 UMTS/HSPA 900/2100 frequencies. Naite scales things back with a 2 megapixel camera, a 2.2-inch 240x320 pixel display, and GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 UMTS HSPA 850/1900/2100 band support when it hits in Q3. And hey, if they make lousy phones you can probably just smoke 'em.
Sony Ericsson announcing eco-friendly phones on Thursday
Sony Ericsson made a commitment that it'd be using lessons learned from the development of its GreenHeart concept phone (pictured) in future production devices, and the first fruits of that labor should break this week. The company has announced that it'll be announcing handsets -- yes, plural -- on June 4 at 1:00PM UK time, which likely means that we can expect super-efficient packaging, chargers that waste little or no power, eco-plastic bodies, and electronic manuals, among other good feel-good technologies. Sony Ericsson's GreenHeart in the environmentally friendly flesh
Now we've got a photo to go along with the announcement of Sony Ericsson's GreenHeart concept phone -- and if this is what saving the environment looks like, we approve. It looks sorta like a retooled W880, but you won't find any brushed aluminum here; instead, the GreenHeart's made with some crazy plastics that go easy on mother nature. It's bundled with a new charger that shuts off when the phone doesn't need any juice to save energy, but one thing it's not bundled with is a manual -- the guide is entirely electronic to save paper. The granola candybar isn't slated for production, but we'll see a number of technologies developed for it come about in retail models over the next few years.[Via SEMC Blog]
Sony Ericsson trying to not destroy Earth with "GreenHeart" concept
Perhaps a nod to Samsung's corny candybars and Nokia's wild Earth-friendly hardware, Sony Ericsson has unveiled its GreenHeart concept, a never-destined-for-production handset that incorporates a bunch of green technologies that it'd like to bring to market over the coming years. Most of the GreenHeart's ideas are totally logical and could be executed today -- online user manuals, bioplastic and recycled plastic materials, and a charger that draws just 3.5mW in trickle mode, just to name a few -- but the company is shopping around the whole lot of it to customers and "selected partners" to determine which eco-concepts should be implemented for production and in what order. Unfortunately, Sony Ericsson isn't seeing fit to show any pictures of the GreenHeart right now, which we take to mean it looks like a tree.[Via Unwired View]
