Go grab the Morton -- you're gonna need a grain or two. According to a "confidential HP product brief" sent anonymously to <em>PreCentral</em>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/HP/">HP</a> is on track to launch a new 64GB <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/TouchPad/">TouchPad</a> next month, complete with a white glossy cabinet and a "processor bump," along with support for AT&amp;T's HSPA+ network. The company just started shipping its 16GB and 32GB TouchPads, but even August wouldn't be too soon for a speed boost, considering the tablet's disappointing performance <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/29/hp-touchpad-review/">during our review</a>. The presentation also lists the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Pre3/">Pre 3</a> for a "fall" launch, along with that mysterious <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/19/hp-palm-tablet-to-feature-touchstone-dock-cloud-storage-beat/">Opal tablet</a>. Despite the so-called leaked confidential presentation, this rumor should be approached like any other -- but on the other hand, with the Pre 3 making recent appearances at the FCC in both <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2011/04/26/hps-pre-3-gets-an-emissions-test-at-the-fcc-likely-destined-fo/">AT&amp;T</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/10/another-pre-3-at-the-fcc-coming-to-verizon-for-you-and-me/">Verizon</a> flavors, HP's latest webOS smartphone could easily be on-track to hit stores by autumn.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/04/leaked-hp-presentation-hints-at-faster-64gb-touchpad-in-august/">Leaked HP presentation hints at faster 64GB TouchPad in August, Pre 3 in fall?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 04 Jul 2011 16:35:00 EST. <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2011/04/26/hps-pre-3-gets-an-emissions-test-at-the-fcc-likely-destined-fo/">Last month</a>, a device (model number HSTNH-F30CN) that we surmised to be a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/pre+3">Pre 3</a> hit the FCC rocking AT&amp;T band GSM radios. Now, its brother HSTNH-F30CV is seeking federal approval to ride CDMA (850 / 1900 MHz), UMTS (900 / 2100 MHz), and GSM (850 / 900 / 1800 / 2100 MHz) wireless waves. With that "V" tagged on the end of the model moniker and its Verizon-friendly innards, it sure looks like the Pre 3 will be the next handset to wear a checkmark on its front. Additionally, those world wide bands tell us that a webOS device will soon be joining the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/26/verizon-officially-announces-htc-droid-incredible-2-available-a/">Androids</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/02/blackberry-bold-9650-hits-verizon-tomorrow-for-150-after-contra/">Blackberrys</a> in Big Red's rather limited lineup of global handsets. Skeptical about our smartphone Spidey Sense? Hit the source link and see for yourself, Sherlock.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/10/another-pre-3-at-the-fcc-coming-to-verizon-for-you-and-me/">Another Pre 3 at the FCC, coming to Verizon for you and me?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 10 May 2011 23:46:00 EST. The method ain't new -- it's the same jictechnology developers offering the same code over at NextGenServer -- but it <i>will</i> yield different results when used on the latest <strike>and greatest</strike> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/webOS/">webOS</a> device. Yep, that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/18/gsm-palm-pre-sim-unlock-now-available-unofficially/">Palm Pre unlock</a> that enabled international GSM Pre units to work on AT&amp;T, Telus and T-Mobile is now officially certified for use on AT&amp;T's own Palm Pre Plus. That means your shiny new smartphone can now hop onto T-Mobile and Telus networks with a functioning SIM card from either carrier, but unlike other unlocks, this one will cost you $35.79. Or, you know, you could pick up <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/03/23/verizon-vs-atandt-pre-plus-edition/">Verizon's Pre Plus</a>, nab <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/01/verizon-mobile-hotspot-on-webos-devices-now-free/">a free mobile hotspot</a> along the way, and pocket an old Nokia candybar for those overseas jaunts -- your call, broseph.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/20/sim-unlock-now-available-for-atandt-palm-pre-plus/">SIM unlock now available for AT&amp;T Palm Pre Plus</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 20 May 2010 14:58:00 EST. A few bugs to get through, but it's apparently legitimate enough (we haven't tried, but the happy customers in the forums seem to suggest success) for the group to charge around &pound;25. Great news all around, but if you're the sort whose fixation on Palm hasn't been so grand that you resisted switching to <a href="http://engadget.com/tag/sprint,palm">Sprint</a> or <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/verizon,palm">Verizon</a>, you can probably wait for the AT&amp;T's Plus-sized model.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/18/gsm-palm-pre-sim-unlock-now-available-unofficially/">GSM Palm Pre SIM unlock now available, unofficially</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 18 Apr 2010 12:24:00 EST. Remember that FCC filing for a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/14/palm-prepping-pre-with-north-american-gsm-but-for-whom/">GSM-loving North American Palm Pre</a>? Looks like the mystery's been solved, Encyclopedia Brown, and our culprit is just south of the border. As <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/08/gsm-palm-pre-to-launch-on-telcel-in-mexico-feature-storage-expa/">previously rumored</a>, Mexico's Telcel will get the Pre, SIM card slot and all. Launch date is November 27th, just in time for the US to be thankful for an online community ready to unlock and import this stateside.<br />

And the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/13/first-gsm-palm-pre-now-on-sale-in-germany-with-new-euro-specifi/">Telefonica rollout</a> of the GSM Pre continues. Starting today, those gorgeous people populating the sinking, but still glorious, isle of the United Kingdom can get their hands on a Palm Pre by hitting up <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/24/palm-pre-coming-to-the-uk-october-16-o2-exclusive/">their nearest O2 store</a>. And by hitting up we mean becoming customers, not robbing the place. Anyway, the cheapest (or least expensive) 18-month tariff on which the Pre can be had for free is &pound;44.05 ($71) per month, which throws in 1,200 free minutes and "unlimited" data and WiFi. That monthly price drops to &pound;34.26 ($55) if you go for a two-year contract, but the bundled minutes are also fewer at 600. There's also an option to pay &pound;96.89 ($157) for the handset upfront, which cuts the cost of the subsequent price plans, full details of which can be found at the read link.<br /><br />[Thanks, Cuan B.]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/palm/" rel="tag">Palm</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/o2/" rel="tag">O2</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/webos/" rel="tag">webOS</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/16/palm-pre-now-available-on-o2-uk/">Palm Pre now available on O2 UK</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 16 Oct 2009 03:43:00 EST. And the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/13/first-gsm-palm-pre-now-on-sale-in-germany-with-new-euro-specifi/">Telefonica rollout</a> of the GSM Pre continues. We <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/20/gsm-palm-pre-now-looking-at-autumn-launch-in-germany/">knew it was coming</a>, and here it is -- the glorious first showing of the Palm Pre in its GSM garb. From today, our Deutsch comrades can grab a Pre and do whatever they want to do to it, courtesy of O2, its exclusive German supplier. The device will set you back &euro;481 without contract, with the O2 My Handy option letting you finance it via 24 monthly payments of &euro;20. Check out the online store link below for full details and available calling plans. <span style="font-style: italic;">Pre Thinking</span> have also noted the arrival of two new free apps in the Pre catalog -- ran and VZ-Netzwerke, both in German -- and the likely prospect of even more coming along as the Pre starts its long-awaited rollout across Europe over the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/24/palm-pre-coming-to-the-uk-october-16-o2-exclusive/">next few days</a>.<br />

Well, this is interesting: we'd been under the impression that Telefonica had pretty much wrapped up a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/11/telefonica-scores-global-pre-coup/">global exclusive</a> on the <a href="http://engadget.com/tag/pre,gsm">GSM Palm Pre</a> under the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/07/palm-pre-official-on-o2-and-movistar-in-europe/">O2 and Movistar</a> brands, but here we are, looking at two videos which claim that the Pre will launch in Mexico under rival Am&eacute;rica M&oacute;vil's Telcel label. That's certainly interesting -- and even more intriguingly, we're told that the gentlemen in this video are discussing <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/23/palm-lack-of-microsd-slot-on-the-pre-purely-a-design-decision/">storage expansion slots on the Pre</a>, which is basically like having a conversation about Santa winning the Super Bowl in terms of Things That Are Real. Did Telcel just manage to pull the rug out from under Movistar and land what could be the best Pre of them all? We're on pins and needles, here. Videos after the break -- and if anyone wants to leave a better translation for us in comments, we're all ears.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/08/gsm-palm-pre-to-launch-on-telcel-in-mexico-feature-storage-expa/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>GSM Palm Pre to launch on Telcel in Mexico, feature storage expansion?</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/palm/" rel="tag">Palm</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/08/gsm-palm-pre-to-launch-on-telcel-in-mexico-feature-storage-expa/">GSM Palm Pre to launch on Telcel in Mexico, feature storage expansion?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 08 Oct 2009 15:01:00 EST. The European operators are <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/24/palm-pre-coming-to-the-uk-october-16-o2-exclusive/">really liking mid-October</a> for their <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Pre/">Pre</a> launches, and that trend continues now that Spain's Telefonica has unveiled an October 14 availability date for Spain's very first webOS device. The phone's being offered on plans that will bring the cost of the handset itself down to anywhere between &euro;0 and &euro;219 (about $322) -- and if you're wondering exactly what you have to do to get it for absolutely free, well, you'll be shelling out &euro;60 or more a month in voice plus &euro;15 in data. You'll be able to pick it up both online and in your friendly local Telefonica shop, so it'll be interesting to see if any lines start forming -- just how many Palm fanatics are their in Spain, anyway?<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/palm/" rel="tag">Palm</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/umts/" rel="tag">UMTS</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/webos/" rel="tag">webOS</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/07/palm-pre-coming-to-spain-on-telefonica-on-october-14/">Palm Pre coming to Spain on Telefonica on October 14</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 07 Oct 2009 10:36:00 EST. The Palm Pre is scheduled to make its big <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/24/palm-pre-coming-to-the-uk-october-16-o2-exclusive/">GSM debut on O2</a> in Europe in just a few weeks, and it looks like final production units are making their way into the wild -- these shots of a German Pre complete with final box art and a localized keyboard just hit the wires. You know, we admire Palm's patience. We knew a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/gsm,pre">GSM Pre</a> was <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/13/palm-pre-everything-you-ever-wanted-to-know/">in the works</a> about 8.43 minutes after its CES presser ended in January, and we've been waiting <em>all this time</em> for some carrier in some part of the New World to grab hold of a GSM version of the world's first webOS handset. If you'll recall, we last heard that O2 Germany would be giving its loyal users the chance to get that very handset <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/07/palm-pre-official-on-o2-and-movistar-in-europe/">before the holiday season</a>, but now an updated image on the site clearly indicates that it's coming this fall. Palm seems to be making an active, conscientious effort to say as little as it can about the <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/gsm,pre">GSM version of the Pre</a>, possibly in an effort to give Sprint as much spotlight as possible before its exclusivity expires -- but as we all know, it's real and it's coming. Thing is, Palm has always implied that it's being limited to European duty with a 3G radio that fails to cover bands that are of any interest to North Americans, so what the heck is this noise all about? Multiple certification bodies are now reporting the existence of a Pre model number P100UNA, as opposed to the P100UEU that's launching in Europe -- and it doesn't take a lot of detective work to gather that those codes on the end stand for "North America" and "European Union," respectively (for the record, the CDMA version on Sprint is P100EWW, so it ain't that). One distinct possibility is that Palm's preparing a version to cover Bell's new HSPA network since the carrier is Palm's exclusive Pre launch partner in Canada and they're smack in the middle of a transition from CDMA -- and needless to say, if that's the case, there'll be an unprecedented effort to get that sucker unlocked on the double.<br />

Palm seems to be making an active, conscientious effort to say as little as it can about the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/gsm,pre">GSM version of the Pre</a>, possibly in an effort to give Sprint as much spotlight as possible before its exclusivity expires -- but as we all know, it's real and it's coming.

It's official, Palm just kicked out a press release saying that the UK, Ireland, and Germany will have access to the Palm Pre <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/01/gsm-pre-to-launch-on-o2-in-uk-next-week/">exclusively on O2</a> while Spain's Pre will be offered <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/07/gsm-palm-pre-makes-exclusive-first-appearance-on-movistar/">exclusively on Movistar</a> -- so it's all <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/16/palm-pre-coming-to-romania-and-the-rest-of-europe-in-september/">Telefonica</a>, all the time. Unfortunately, launch timing was only narrowed down to "in time for the holidays" which is just another way of repeating Palm's European-launch mantra of <em>before the end of the year</em>. Palm also doesn't provide any prices and chose not to list the radio frequencies for the HSDPA/UMTS with EDGE/GSM version of the Pre. See the 1,260 word press release posted after the break that says almost nothing.<br /> <br /> <strong>Update</strong>: Seems as if O2 Germany <a href="https://newsflash.o2online.de/promo/ankuendigung/images/palmpre.gif">has word</a> that it'll be launching the GSM Pre in October.<br /><br /><strong>Update 2</strong>: Hmm, seems as if O2 Germany has <a href="https://newsflash.o2online.de/promo/ankuendigung/images/palmpre.gif">swapped out banners</a> to show "Fall" availability. There it is, the first official press shot (see that HSDPA icon?) of the GSM version of the Palm Pre. The "more information" link isn't working at the moment but it's clear that Movistar has exclusive rights to the Pre in Spain. Of course, Movistar, like <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/01/gsm-pre-to-launch-on-o2-in-uk-next-week/">O2 in the UK</a>, is owned by <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/16/palm-pre-coming-to-romania-and-the-rest-of-europe-in-september/">Telefonica</a> which so far seems to have clinched exclusivity throughout Europe. We're still waiting for all this to get officially official <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/01/palm-to-disclose-uk-pre-launch-details-next-week/">sometime this week</a>, if not today.<br /><br />[Thanks, Enzo]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/palm/" rel="tag">Palm</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/movistar/" rel="tag">Movistar</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/umts/" rel="tag">UMTS</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/webos/" rel="tag">webOS</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/07/gsm-palm-pre-makes-exclusive-first-appearance-on-movistar/">GSM Palm Pre makes exclusive first appearance on Movistar</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 07 Jul 2009 03:25:00 EST. We heard <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/01/palm-to-disclose-uk-pre-launch-details-next-week/">earlier this morning</a> that the GSM Pre was set for a UK launch, and now it sounds like things are coming together: <em>The Guardian</em> says the Palm's baby will launch on O2. That makes perfect sense, O2 owner Telefonica reportedly <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/11/telefonica-scores-global-pre-coup/">secured broad global rights to the Pre</a> back in March. We heard <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/08/there-will-be-a-umts-palm-pre/">way back at CES</a> that a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/24/hello-o2-pres-gsm-flavor-finally-gets-a-launch-carrier-in-the/">GSM Pre</a> was in the works, but not until now have we heard who exactly in the world would be using it. According to confirmation received by <em>T3</em>, Palm is gearing up to disclose the whos, whats and wheres behind the UK launch next week, meaning that we've got seven days (give or take) to twiddle our thumbs until we know which carrier (O2 or <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/16/gsm-palm-pre-spotted-with-vodafone-sim-card/">Vodafone</a>, most likely), how much and when it'll be available for purchase. We know it's agonizing, but at least you've a time frame to circle in your Trapper Keeper now, right?<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/palm/" rel="tag">Palm</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/o2/" rel="tag">O2</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/vodafone/" rel="tag">Vodafone</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/webos/" rel="tag">webOS</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/01/palm-to-disclose-uk-pre-launch-details-next-week/">Palm to disclose UK Pre launch details next week?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 01 Jul 2009 09:06:00 EST. Having the Palm Pre on Sprint might be good for Americans driving their pick 'em up trucks down the CDMA data highway, but it doesn't do Europeans (or Palm's bottom line) any good over in the Old World. Now we've got video and images of a <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/pre%2Cgsm">GSM-loving Palm Pre</a> on the loose in Vietnam. Why 'Nam? Easy, as workers gain more rights and higher wages in China, manufacturers of all our fancy consumer electronics are heading further south in search of cheap labor. While this doesn't mean a damn thing regarding launch, it's still good to see a functioning GSM Pre in the wild on the way to launch sometime before the end of the year, <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/06/16/palm-pre-coming-to-romania-and-the-rest-of-europe-in-september/">possibly sooner</a>. It boggles the mind that Palm is still totally silent on the issue of global <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Pre/">Pre</a> availability; yes, granted, Apple employed similar foot-dragging following the original iPhone's launch, but the difference there was that Apple was under way, way less pressure from consumers and investors to immediately deliver a monster hit. We've heard rumblings <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/24/hello-o2-pres-gsm-flavor-finally-gets-a-launch-carrier-in-the/">as recently as late May</a> that Telefonica has signed a deal to deliver the Pre on its various networks around the world, but since then, nothing -- and that's where some scrappy little distributor in Romania comes into play. A company called IRIS -- a smartphone distributor for years and Romania's authorized Apple outlet -- says that the Pre will be hitting shelves over there in September for something in the range of $550 unsubsidized, putting it right in range with what Sprint is charging off contract. Of course, by September, the Pre will be fighting a readily available <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/iPhone3GS/">iPhone 3G S</a> and gobs of new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/Android/">Android</a> sets, but webOS itself already proves that the new Palm knows how to work under pressure.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.gsmarena.com/palm_pre_to_take_europe_by_storm_this_september_at_around_400_euro-news-974.php">GSMArena</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/palm/" rel="tag">Palm</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/umts/" rel="tag">UMTS</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/16/palm-pre-coming-to-romania-and-the-rest-of-europe-in-september/">Palm Pre coming to Romania (and the rest of Europe) in September?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 16 Jun 2009 14:22:00 EST. If we had to guess, the silence can be attributed to heated negotiations between Palm and dozens of potential networks; the company knows it has a probable winner on its hands, and it has every reason to play hardball to get the best exclusivity deal that it possibly can. The <em>Guardian</em> is now reporting that O2 has fended off competing offers from Vodafone and Orange to nab the Pre in the UK, meaning that the carrier -- Britain's largest by subscriber count -- <em>would</em> be launching the device alongside the iPhone 3G, though rumors only have it pegged for pre-Christmas availability meaning it'd actually be doing with whatever new device Apple intends to bring to the table this summer. Whether it can hold its own against a renewed Cupertino onslaught in the holiday season remains to be seen, but in the spirit of competition and awesome smartphones, we certainly hope so.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/palm/" rel="tag">Palm</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/verizon-wireless/" rel="tag">Verizon Wireless</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/o2/" rel="tag">O2</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/umts/" rel="tag">UMTS</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/webos/" rel="tag">webOS</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/24/hello-o2-pres-gsm-flavor-finally-gets-a-launch-carrier-in-the/">Hello, O2: Pre's GSM flavor finally gets a launch carrier in the UK?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 24 May 2009 14:06:00 EST. You know, if you're going to post pics of yourself onto the Internet goofing around with the Palm Pre in a Sprint back-office, Engadget's going to be there to post them. However, if you're dumb enough not to block out your face, well, guess we'll have to do that for you. After all, you're likely not bright enough to find a new job after having committed gun powder treason. Word of advice: get a new hat. A few more after the break.<br /><br />[Thanks, <a href="http://forums.precentral.net/palm-pre/179851-sprint-employee-face-censored.html">PreCentral tipsters</a>]<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/15/palm-pre-pics-released-into-the-wild-by-sprint-freedom-fighter/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Palm Pre pics released into the wild by Sprint freedom fighter</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/palm/" rel="tag">Palm</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/sprint/" rel="tag">Sprint</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/webos/" rel="tag">webOS</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/15/palm-pre-pics-released-into-the-wild-by-sprint-freedom-fighter/">Palm Pre pics released into the wild by Sprint freedom fighter</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 15 May 2009 03:19:00 EST. Carriers and Palm have been absolutely silent on the matter, but let's be honest: there's very likely been one of the most heated, no-holds-barred wars over the past few months to score European exclusivity on the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/hub/palm-pre">Pre</a> since the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Storm/">Storm</a> and the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/iPhone/">iPhone</a> -- and with launches broadly expected by mid-year, time is running out to secure a deal. Spanish media is reporting that Telefonica has now locked up that deal, not just for Spain and the UK (where it operates as <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/O2/">O2</a>) but for Latin America as well under the Movistar brand. If true, that'd be a nice, big "screw you" to archrival <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/Vodafone/">Vodafone</a>, which has the mighty Storm / <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Magic/">Magic</a> two-pack under its belt. Even more interesting, though, is the fact that most of Latin America operates 3G on the 850 and 1900MHz bands -- the very same used in the US and Canada -- which means that our assumptions that the Pre would be 2100-only may have been wrong all along. Awesomely wrong. We wouldn't get our hopes up that the Pre will be a walk in the park to unlock and use on AT&amp;T or Rogers just yet, but it's a glimmer of hope that we'll gladly take.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.palminfocenter.com/news/9706/movistar-picks-up-the-palm-pre-in-spain-and-latin-america/">Palm Infocenter</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/palm/" rel="tag">Palm</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/movistar/" rel="tag">Movistar</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/umts/" rel="tag">UMTS</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/webos/" rel="tag">webOS</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/11/telefonica-scores-global-pre-coup/">Telefonica scores global Pre coup?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 11 Mar 2009 17:46:00 EST. Last we checked, a GSM handset couldn't exactly hop on those speedy EV-DO waves without some sort of <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2006/02/27/samsung-w399-dual-mode-cdma-gsm-cellphone/">dual personality</a>. And so far as we know, Palm's forthcoming <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/08/there-will-be-a-umts-palm-pre/">GSM Pre</a> is, well, GSM only. Whatever the case, Britons should be at least mildly excited to know that Palm's UK website now features the webOS-sporting <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/tag/Pre/">Pre</a>, even though the image is definitely not of a GSM Pre. Of course, the important part here is that a GSM Pre is definitely on its way to the UK, and considering that we already spotted one <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/16/gsm-palm-pre-spotted-with-vodafone-sim-card/">with a Vodafone SIM</a>, we're hoping that it'll happen sooner rather than later. And so far as we know, Palm's forthcoming <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/08/there-will-be-a-umts-palm-pre/">GSM Pre</a> is, well, GSM only. Whatever the case, Britons should be at least mildly excited to know that Palm's UK website now features the webOS-sporting <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Pre/">Pre</a>, even though the image is definitely not of a GSM Pre. Much sooner, actually.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/Palm-Pre-surfaces-on-the-Palm-UK-site-article-a_4170.html">phoneArena</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/palm/" rel="tag">Palm</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/vodafone/" rel="tag">Vodafone</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/webos/" rel="tag">webOS</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/20/palm-pre-emerges-on-uk-website-in-a-cdma-skin/">Pre emerges on Palm's UK website... in a CDMA skin</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 20 Feb 2009 12:51:00 EST. We sat down with Palm today and in addition to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/19/palm-pres-touchstone-charger-requires-matte-soft-touch-battery/">spotting that soft-touch cover</a> we chatted them up on where things stand, how things are progressing, and various other clarifications about webOS and the Pre that have yet to be made. Palm's staying pretty tight-lipped and under-the-radar at the show, despite bringing a Europe-friendly HSDPA handset to show off -- they're not making any big announcements along those lines until there's a carrier firmed up, and not even clarifying what bands are supported. The build of webOS is exactly the same as what was at CES, and Palm still isn't letting the device slip out of its firm grip for a bit of rogue hands-on time.<br /><br />Palm did confirm that games are in development for webOS, and seems a little defensive at accusations that the OS can't handle that stuff -- Palm hasn't changed its stance on app development, of course, there are no "native" apps allowed currently, but they seem more reticent to admit that web-style app development will limit gaming options. Perhaps they're hoping <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/16/palm-joins-adobes-open-screen-project-pre-to-support-flash/">Adobe's Open Screen Project</a> will save them some grief on this front, since Flash will be ready for webOS by the end of the year. Palm's currently working with a small amount of developers in private beta, refining the SDK to their feedback and needs, and will slowly expand that as the phone approaches launch, but we don't expect a full SDK to reach Joe the Coder until very close to before or after the launch. We asked about the potential for a soft keyboard, and they said that there's no reason that developers couldn't build their own -- though we're not sure how that would work. Out of the gate developers won't have super deep access to the OS from what we understand -- they wouldn't be able to do something like Facebook's level of OS-wide contacts integration, for instance -- but Palm hopes to open those APIs up further down the line.<br /><br />We get the impression that Palm feels version 1.0 of webOS is very feature complete, and that the most surprises we'll get from here to launch will be mostly along the lines of 3rd party development and release details.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/palm/" rel="tag">Palm</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/webos/" rel="tag">webOS</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/19/palm-confirms-games-are-in-development-for-pre-drops-a-few-othe/">Palm confirms games are in development for Pre, drops a few other tidbits</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 19 Feb 2009 06:50:00 EST. We would've wagered 50 euros <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/21/palm-announcing-something-at-mwc-next-month-gsm-pre-likely/">there'd be a GSM Pre announced at MWC this week</a> -- but strangely, it didn't happen. If we had to guess, a grand unveiling was probably held up by behind-the-scenes manfacuturer-operator drama in the course of trying to nail an exclusivity agreement, but that's not to say there weren't still SIM card-toting Pres floating around the show. <em>PreCommunity</em> happened across one of these today and astutely noted the presence of a Vodafone SIM around back -- not damning evidence that the Pre will be announced as a Voda exclusive, granted, but it kinda makes you wonder, doesn't it? See for yourself in the video after the break.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/16/gsm-palm-pre-spotted-with-vodafone-sim-card/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>GSM Palm Pre spotted with Vodafone SIM card</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/palm/" rel="tag">Palm</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/vodafone/" rel="tag">Vodafone</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/gsm/" rel="tag">GSM</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/edge/" rel="tag">EDGE</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/hsdpa/" rel="tag">HSDPA</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/umts/" rel="tag">UMTS</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/16/gsm-palm-pre-spotted-with-vodafone-sim-card/">GSM Palm Pre spotted with Vodafone SIM card</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 16 Feb 2009 07:20:00 EST.
