The PlayStation 3 doesn't have that many games. It's true. Some may even say with a straight face that about half of the games available... aren't that good. While in America, the Gundam franchise is usually regarded with a scoff and an oft-muttered "crazy Japanese" insult, Japan loves them some Gundams. This is very apparent with the release of Gundam Musou, which in its first week of release, snagged up around 171,000 units. That's a little under 25% of all PS3 owners in Japan, according to VGCharts. Speaking of that website... the PS3 has crossed the 2 million mark! Hooray! This is the second PS3 title to take the #1 spot in Japan... the other was Virtua Fighter 5, selling about 49,000 units during its release week. As you can see, Gundam Musou sold a heck of a lot more. The rest of the bestseller chart is riddled with DS titles... no surprise there. But, still, we crossed the 2 million mark! Perhaps we'll quickly pass the 3 million mark upon Europe's launch. We'll see. This was a double-whammy post! You got a bestseller report and a console sales blurb. Aren't you glad?

  • Gundam Musou HD promo movie now downloadable

Gundam Musou, thank Koei, looks nothing like Gundam: Crossfire. And the other differences between Musou and last year's ugliest new-gen duckling aren't merely superficial ones -- Koei's game appears to have some depth, more gameplay modes, and... did we mention that it's not butt-ugly? To help you see why this game ranks near the top of Famitsu's readers' most wanted chart, and why Sony has okayed a PS3 hardware bundle, publisher NamcoBandai has just released a promo movie on the Japanese PlayStation Store. Gundam fans and Dynasty Warriors alike should get in there (set up a fake Japanese account for access) and get downloading. "Pronto."

  • Gundam Musou PS3 pack for Japan -- why Gundam?

Sometimes you just have to put your foot down... why the heck would Sony choose the new (read: another) Gundam game to pack with the PS3? It's not exactly a series that has had much luck outside of the anime that spawned these games. Anime games in general aren't usually up to snuff (though that Sword of the Bersek: Guts' Rage game for the Dreamcast was pretty freakin' sweet). In any case, Gundam Musou is set to bundle up with the PS3 on March 1st in Japan.Included in this bundle pack is the 60GB model PS3, a copy of the game, 8 art cards, a... "technical file", and a character file. These files probably pertain to the characters found in the game. The price? 69,800 yen, as opposed to the price of 59,800 yen for the console alone. This doesn't sound like that great of a deal, but maybe the items bundled with the game are sizable and detailed. We'll see.
