While living alone in the woods must come with its own set of problems, it must be doubly difficult when strangers are constantly looking for ways to sneak into your house. Such is the premise in Knock Knock, a new game from Russian development studio Ice-Pick Lodge Game Development. Knock Knock follows a hermit-like protagonist called The Lodger, who lives in the middle of the woods and engages in deadly games of hide-and-seek with supernatural home invaders. These uninvited creatures, who emerge from the forest and descend upon the hermit's home every night, sneak in through open windows and cracks in the walls. While running around and fixing these breaches, The Lodger must evade these uninvited guests until the sanctuary of sunrise arrives. There is randomized item generation in each play session of Knock Knock, and The Lodger only has five item slots with which to equip found goods. On top of that, these creatures are always aware of The Lodger's position, so finding some closet and hiding until dawn is not an option. The Lodger must always be on the move. Ice-Pick plans to launch Knock Knock on the PC, though a launch window has yet to be determined.

  • MechWarrior Online fights with knowledge as well as lasers

In any combat situation it is key to be as well-informed as possible: to know where your enemy is (hopefully not right behind you), what resources you have on hand (dual Twinkies), what you're up against (spouse aggro), and so on. The makers of the upcoming MechWarrior Online have devoted their second dev blog to the importance of information -- or as they put it, "knowledge is power!" To aid with information warfare, the designers will provide to players a key tool called a BattleGrid, which will function like a pumped-up interactive map during in-game conflicts. Through the BattleGrid, players will be able to get a good idea of what's going on in the field quickly and what orders are coming through for the attack. The blog post also mentions the concept of "modules" that allow pilots to customize their 'Mechs, and it gives a brief overview of the line-of-sight targeting system and how players can work together to share battlefield information as well as how they can confuse the enemy. Hiding and seeking in the game will require a good combination of both detection and "spoofing" modules to keep your team alive while exposing the opposite one. [Thanks to Nimsy for the tip!]

After a short couple weeks of closed beta, Kingdom Heroes has announced their transition into the open beta phase. This would be the "historical" MMO that teaches you all sorts of fascinating "facts" about ancient China, such as how their female warriors fought in elegantly revealing bikinis (at least according to the front page of the site). While they're currently only stress testing a single server in NA, Kingdom Heroes has plans to open a EU server in the near future. As part of the open beta celebration, Aeria Games is hosting a number of special beta events for this upcoming weekend. GMs are coming out of the woodwork to run hide-and-seek games, statue dance contests, secret giveaways and awards for special milestones reached. Yes, once again we learn the insidious truth that our high school history textbooks kept from us: ancient Chinese armies were bolstered by their elite breakdancing skills. So if historical breakdancing and entire armies playing hide-and-seek thrill you to your very core (or you just want to check out an interesting-looking MMO), then head over to the Kingdom Heroes website and download the open beta today.

If you've been involved in a beta over the last several weeks and haven't been boldly going where no gender-neutral-pronoun has gone before, you've probably been taking a look at Kung Foo!. Statistically speaking. Maybe you're in on the Hello Kitty Online: Rise of Cthulhu beta testing, we're not sure. Anyway. If you have been testing Kung Foo! recently, you'll be familiar with the volume and intensity of events that the community team has been organizing to keep the beta tests as engaging as possible. In preparation for Closed Beta 2 next week, they've announced another testing event... and the rewards are cold, hard cash. Well, cold, hard, item-mall cash. Which is still a nice freebie. The servers will go live for Closed Beta 2 on January 26th, 4 PM PST (7 PM for those of us running on EST), and the event will start an hour later at 5 PM PST on Realm 4. The official blog for Perfect World Entertainment will update this blog entry with a screenshot hinting at where the GM is hiding. Be the first to find him, and you win $50 worth of Zen currency. Easy money, isn't it? And a perfect way to get more excited about the game's launch when testing starts.

Everyone and their mother has seen Blind by Percula, right? If not, go ahead and watch it above. Better yet, go to the actual vimeo page and watch it in high definition. Then come back here for more Blind-goodness.Blindly satisfied? Great! It's been the #1 search topic on WoW Insider for a bit, so I know people must love it.The only complaint that folks have about the video is the sound can be rather rough at times. I have to admit that I think this as well (to some extent), however it's nothing that really detracts from the video itself. Further, it's interesting to note that the audio distortion is present in the original song Percula uses as well, which leads me to believe it was an artistic choice of the artist. But no matter what you think of the audio quality, I haven't ran into anyone who thinks the song doesn't match up beautifully with the animation and story itself. But therein lies the question – what are the lyrics? The song playing is "Hide & Seek" by Namie Amuro. I wasn't familiar with her, so after some Wikipediaing, I learned that she is a Japanese singer that was, and to a large extent still is, quite popular.Take a look after the break for more about the song "Hide & Seek," including the lyrics.

For those that believe that aliens are out there, things just got more complicated. You see, they're also in our virtual worlds! At least, according to Gary Hazlitt they are.Gary created a music video, Hide and Seek, about their presence in Second Life. In the video, they cruise around in several sims, Planet Mongo, Svarga, and Deakin University, to a soundtrack by Imogen Heap. If you liked the video, check out the medium quality version. To complete the shots, he used a greenscreened picture version of the avatar and filtered it through CrazyTalk 5, then filmed real shots of movement. He placed the lipsynched picture video over the footage and chromakeyed it in Final Cut Pro.

This last Saturday, the Undercity on the Zangarmarsh server saw an odd assortment of people running wildly amok. And no, it wasn't because of the Fire Festival or Apothecary Faranell's red light special on body parts. The onslaught of rampaging Hordies was purely made up of members of the Wow Insider guild, <It came from the Blog>, all out to hide and seek as best they could! For the first round, Roark and Charcuterie agreed kindly to help me hunt down members of the guild. I'll tell you this much: there are some serious nooks and crannies in the Undercity. However... there are a few places you don't ever want to try to hide. Those hanging out under the elevators, in coffins, and most of the folks in the slime in the sewers were largely the first caught in the initial sweep. However, after a good half-hour of searching, there were five folks who were still nowhere to be found...
