Those looking to attend next year's New York Comic Con have more to look forward to than hygiene experiments and booth babes: Sega has confirmed that it will bring demos of MadWorld, The Conduit and The House of the Dead: Overkill to the event, which takes place February 6-8 at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City. Special "zombie surprises" are also promised, so come prepared.Sega hasn't revealed if any or all of these titles will be playable or merely shown off to those who happen to stroll by its booth. Not that it matters, as you'll likely go blind well before the show after meticulously gluing down individual scales in the name of Aquaman cosplay.

  • US gets Overkill collector's edition with less cool extras?

Remember that awesome European collector's edition for House of the Dead: Overkill? Well, those of us in the US are getting a similarly sweet bonus package should we wish to part with the extra dough, however our comic doesn't come in the traditional form. Instead, it's a digital download, according to Amazon. In poking around the net, though, we found that Gamestop is offering the comic, but in actual paper form. We're all kinds of confused now!We all know North America will be getting the collector's edition. However, we're not certain on whether it'll be a paper comic or a download. If it's different for each retailer, we're sad to say that Gamestop is in the lead for our pre-order dollar right now. We'd rather have an actual comic we can hold in our hands than one we're forced to read on a computer screen. We're just old school like that.%Gallery-29952%[Thanks, Buffalo_AAA!]

Click for full cover. The House of the Dead: Overkill collector's edition bundle is one of the best preorder items we've seen in a while, so it was understandably upsetting when Sega initially revealed the package as a Europe-only bonus. You can pack that pitchfork away for another day, however, because Sega has confirmed it will be spreading the love to North America. Preorder Overkill at GameStop, GameCrazy, or Amazon, and you'll have the option to bag all of this. Yum.%Gallery-29952%

Sega will release The House of the Dead: Overkill in Europe next February, and there'll be an optional bonus at "selected retailers" for fans who preorder: this rad Collector's Edition. Arriving in a fetching minimalist slipcase (loving the authentic scuff marks), this will come bundled with a graphic novel that tells the stories of Agent Washington and Varla Gunns, and the events that lead up to the game. Here's the downside: this sweet package has so far only been announced for PAL regions -- apart from Germany, obviously. Sucks to be Germany, eh? Hit up our gallery for a closer look at the comic's cover and a sample page.%Gallery-29952%[Via press release]

  • House of the Dead: Overkill dev not worried about censors, piles on the gore

Censors, be damned! That's more or less the attitude of House of the Dead: Overkill developer Headstrong Games, which has said it won't be compromising the amount of gore in Overkill."Sometimes we've gone 'ooh, we shouldn't really do that'," producer Neil McEwen tells CVG, "but then we've gone 'no, hell yes we should'." McEwen reasons that, as nobody is getting exploited, then buckets of claret are justifiable: he suggests the gore will be as "extreme as possible." He also plays the tongue-in-cheek card, though that didn't help MadWorld when the Daily Mail came knocking. Even if censors have already ensured the game won't be released in Germany, we salute McEwen and Headstrong for this carefree attitude. If only other developers and publishers were as bold.%Gallery-29952%

And the Halloween-related media onslaught continues, this time with a delicious, gravelly-voiced, grindhousey trailer for The House of the Dead: Overkill. Unsurprisingly, we love this, but it still can't beat the trailer that revealed the game to a breathless world, on account that "You will cry blood from YOUR OWN eyes" is hands down one of the coolest lines ever penned.Still, if the opening few seconds teach us just one lesson, it is this: this game needs zombie horses, damnit.%Gallery-29952%

They're pretty much what you'd expect: shots of zombies skulking toward the screen, along with shots of zombies being, uh, well ... shot. We don't know about you, but we're still incredibly excited to play Sega's campy shooter.Click on the image above to see the new screens, or head into the gallery below.%Gallery-29952%

  • The House of the Dead: Overview

Headstrong Games' The House of the Dead: Overkill is meant to contrast sharply with the rest of the series. According to this Official Nintendo Magazine preview, the '70s horror theme used in the game's promotion and boxart also carries into the game in the form of a scratchy film filter over the graphics. The zombies are also less brightly colored than the semi-cartoony monsters in previous games, instead presented as "frighteningly realistic depictions of normal people brought back to life, even more human-like than the zombies in the Resident Evil games.Perhaps most frightening for the player is what they've done to reloading. Reloading your gun is still done the same way, but it's not instantaneous any longer. Now when you point offscreen, your character begins to change his clip, leaving him exposed. These guys need to learn the "instant reload" technique from the House of the Dead 2 cast!%Gallery-29952%

We don't have to tell you how excited we are for House of the Dead: Overkill. After the game was announced, some details managed to escape Leipzig and we've been counting down the days ever since. Studio manager, Bradley Crooks, recently talked with G4 about the Grindhouse-influenced game, including some of the game's features. Also, Bradley says he thinks Overkill "might be the first game to feature a live birth. Or, maybe it's a live unbirth." Sounds disgusting! We love it!G4's player is a pain in the neck, so you'll have to head past the break to check out the video.%Gallery-29952%

  • February: the month of campy violence?

Far-flung release dates on Gamestop are rarely accurate, since they give publishers so much time to change their minds. But as of right now, February 2009 is slated to be the best time for Wii owners (or gamers in general) who like over-the-top, silly gore, thanks to a sequence of high-profile releases.According to the retailer's website, The House of the Dead: Overkill comes out on February 3, followed by Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers on the 10th, and then MadWorld on the 24th. Of course, the next game on the list is Sadness, but that's neither ultraviolent nor an actual release. We predict delays for at least two of these games which will push them out of the same month, but if such a confluence actually does occur, just go ahead and try not to watch any TV news or read any newspapers this February.

Apparently, one Bradley Crooks, developer at Headstrong Games, revealed to Gamekyo a few details about the upcoming Sega game on every Wii gamers' mind (if it isn't on your brain, then you should get your head checked) during an event at Leipzig. The list is fairly long, so head past the break, where it's all been organized with helpful bullet points.%Gallery-29952%

The House of the Dead series is permeated by an impossible-to-identify "Seganess." Some combination of arcade-fast gameplay, silliness, and Engrish just makes it feel like a Sega game. For the latest entry in the franchise, Headstrong Games has taken over for Sega's Wow Entertainment (now Wow Overworks), exchanging the campy horror vibe for something a bit more '70s-action.With a new developer (from a new continent!) and a new style, do you think it's possible for Overkill to still feel like The House of the Dead? Or is the fresh coat of paint actually a good way to distance the new game from its predecessors?%Gallery-29952%

So far, we're loving Sega's marketing of House of the Dead: Overkill. We thought nothing could top the cracking grindhouse-style trailer released when the game was announced, but some of the swag associated with the game comes close.Destructoid's Jim Sterling (and we assume our other esteemed, Leipzig-attending colleagues in the press) just received the above video cassette box. Inside, Sterling discovered a postcard resembling a VHS tape, and a T-shirt that expands in water. Best of all, he notes how the box has been designed to look damaged and scuffed, so that it looks like the kind of under-the-counter filth that you may have found abandoned on a disused section of railway as a youngster; very subtle, Sega! Blast your way through the break for a couple more shots.%Gallery-29952%

According to a statement given to Nintendo-Online by Sega of Germany, Platinum Games' MadWorld and the newly-announced House of the Dead: Overkill will not be released in Germany. Based on what has been shown so far, Sega does not believe that the restrictive USK ratings board would give the games a rating, and so rather than go to the trouble of changing all the enemies into robots, they have opted not to release them.In other news, gamers and press from all over the world are in Germany this week to see new games like Sega's MadWorld and House of the Dead: Overkill at the Leipzig Games Convention.%Gallery-22964%[Via NeoGAF]

No surprise to you, we watch a lot, a lot of trailers. Do you know how much better our lives would be if video game trailers were less "You're some guy who's got to do a thing. Buy it!" and a lot more like this new trailer for House of the Dead: Overkill, a funky homage to 70s B-grade action flicks? Well, we don't know either, but we bet it's a lot. Now, the real question of course is will the game itself have this much style and panache? Jeez, greedy, they already gave you a cool trailer, what else do you want?[Thanks, WiNG]%Gallery-29954%
