The example we're giving out is <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/BellCanada/">Bell Canada's</a> model, which mates the dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 and Android 4.0 with Bell-specific extras like Mobile TV. Should you live in the land of the red and white, fire off an entry according to the rules and you might just get HTC's super-skinny smartphone for yourself.</p><p></p><ul> <li> <strong>Leave a comment below.</strong><span><span> </span></span>Any comment will do. Along with the usual wireless, a TF300TL variant of the Android 4.0 slate has stopped by the agency with the 850MHz and 1,900MHz frequencies needed for HSPA 3G as well as, best of all, 700MHz and 1,700MHz support for LTE-based 4G. All four are what we'd look for in an <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ATT/">AT&amp;T</a>-oriented tablet, so don't be surprised if Ma Bell carries a 4G Transformer Pad before long. All but the 700MHz band would be handy for Canadian networks as well. There's no surefire evidence of when the tablet might make a more formal appearance, nor hints of whether or not it will keep the quad-core <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Tegra3/">Tegra 3</a>, although the slight spin on the regular TF300 formula could keep the wait short.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/24/asus-transformer-pad-tf300tl-hits-the-fcc/">ASUS Transformer Pad TF300TL hits the FCC with AT&amp;T-friendly LTE</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 24 May 2012 20:51:00 EST. Amazon has your back with pre-orders for 16GB versions in both Marble White and Pebble Blue. Either will keep the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/03/gsiii-benchmarks/">speedy Exynos 4 Quad</a> and will stay unlocked, so you can hop networks to your heart's content. Do expect to pay a steep premium for being the first kid on your block: at $800, you're spending a lot to get an HSPA+ model on June 1st when the LTE-toting, cheaper (if carrier-locked and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/20/samsung-chief-says-open-to-cross-licensing-deal-with-apple/">possibly part-swapped</a>) editions should <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/03/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-hspa-arriving-in-may-4g-version-hitting-n/">reach the US days later</a>.</p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/21/amazon-puts-samsung-galaxy-s-iii-up-for-us-pre-orders/">Amazon puts Samsung Galaxy S III up for US pre-orders, offers a slice of quad-core, unlocked utopia</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 21 May 2012 18:33:00 EST. This past week, we've seen T-Mobile expand its network coverage <em>and</em> take an argument to the FCC regarding interoperability requirements of the 700MHz band. These stories and more await after the break. So buy the ticket and take the ride as we explore the "<a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/mm">best of the rest</a>" for this week of March 12th, 2012.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/17/mobile-miscellany-week-of-march-12th-2012/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mobile Miscellany: week of March 12th, 2012</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/17/mobile-miscellany-week-of-march-12th-2012/">Mobile Miscellany: week of March 12th, 2012</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 17 Mar 2012 19:06:00 EST. Some take a relatively modest set of specs and add a little wrinkle to make them stand out from the crowd. The <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/23/samsung-rugby-smart/">Samsung Rugby Smart</a> is one such device. Though it adds Android to what we'll now refer to as the <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2008/09/15/samsung-a837-rugby-bows-on-atandt-looking-for-a-fight/">Rugby Dumb</a>, we can already tell you this handset isn't for the spec snobs among you. But, if you're more concerned with durability and tank-like construction, you might want to stick around a while. This AT&amp;T-branded phone is built to mil-spec 810F standards, meaning it's shockproof, dustproof and can be immersed in up to a meter of water for up to 30 minutes. If these are qualities you desire in a phone, meet us past the break to see how it stacks up against its competition.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-rugby-smart-review/">Samsung Rugby Smart review</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-rugby-smart-review/#4898464"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/03/03-12-2012dsc0094100_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-rugby-smart-review/#4898468"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/03/03-12-2012dsc0094201_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-rugby-smart-review/#4898471"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/03/03-12-2012dsc0095004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-rugby-smart-review/#4898474"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/03/03-12-2012dsc0095206_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-rugby-smart-review/#4898476"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/03/03-12-2012dsc0095307_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/16/samsung-rugby-smart-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Samsung Rugby Smart review</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/16/samsung-rugby-smart-review/">Samsung Rugby Smart review</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 16 Mar 2012 13:00:00 EST. A new workaround designed specifically for AT&amp;T's LTE variant of the monolithic smartphone (and ostensibly, Canadian versions, but not the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/28/samsung-galaxy-note-review/">international model</a>), has successfully enabled HSPA+ support for AWS networks. Just like the Galaxy S II Skyrocket hack, the process is fairly straightforward; users must simply enter a SIM unlock code and then flash one of three radio files to the handset -- feel free to experiment and pick the most reliable of the bunch. While all functions are said to work properly, your phone's battery life may take a hit, as reports indicate that signal strength isn't quite up to par. For those wanting to proceed, just be sure to obtain a stock copy of your phone's radio file before diving in -- otherwise, once the new baseband's in place, you'll be unable to access Ma Bell's LTE network. Isn't compromise the greatest?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/14/galaxy-note-gains-tmobile-hspa-access/">Galaxy Note LTE gains access to T-Mobile's HSPA+ network with custom radio</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 14 Mar 2012 08:27:00 EST. You'd be shocked at the speeds. [Laughs.] But it's okay -- as long as I can send and reply to email, I'm fine with it."</p></blockquote>Those were the words spoken to me just weeks ago by the absolutely precious owner of Litia Sini Beach Resort on the extreme southeastern tip of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Upolu" target="_blank">Upolu</a>. For those unaware, that's Samoa's most populous island (~135,000 people) -- a sliver of lush, mountainous land dropped almost perfectly in the center of the Pacific Ocean. I chuckled a bit upon hearing it, immediately realizing that I had a connection in the palm of my hand that was 20, 30, perhaps even 40 times quicker than what this business owner was relying on. She paused, as if to collect her thoughts before going into a familiar spiel about the resort's amenities, and then drew my attention to the display of her laptop.<br /><blockquote> <p> "It's still a draft for now, but this is the new tsunami evacuation plan that we're working on. Soon, we'll have this in each fale. It's taking a bit of time to get right, as the drawings are actually done in New Zealand."</p></blockquote>I nodded my head in understanding, immediately thinking that this must be in reaction to the catastrophic tsunami of September 2009, caused by a magnitude 8.1 submarine earthquake that hit barely 100 miles from the very spot I was sitting. It was the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_Samoa_earthquake" target="_blank">largest quake of 2009</a>. The entire resort was leveled. Dozens upon dozens were killed. And here we were, over two full years later, and the evacuation schematics are still in "draft."<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/12/bringing-wireless-to-the-disconnected-internet-south-pacific/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Bringing wireless to the disconnected: internet tales from the South Pacific</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/12/bringing-wireless-to-the-disconnected-internet-south-pacific/">Bringing wireless to the disconnected: internet tales from the South Pacific</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 12 Mar 2012 14:00:00 EST. Well, the image above should tell you all you need to know. AT&amp;T will have three options, starting at $15 for 250MB, $30 for 3GB and going up to $50 for 5GB. Verizon simply skips out on the bargain bin plan, assuming you'll be wanting more if you dropped the extra dough on an LTE-enabled iPad. Big Red kicks things off with a $30 2GB option before jumping to $50 for 5GB and $80 for 10GB. Now, that may sound like a lot of money but, remember, there's no contract to sign here.<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> AT&amp;T has reached out to us to identify an inaccuracy presented in Apple's graphic. The $30 price tier comes with a 3GB data plan, rather than 2GB as originally stated in the article. Apple has yet to update the information on its website.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/07/ipad-4g-plans-and-pricing-revealed/">iPad 4G plans and pricing revealed (update)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 07 Mar 2012 18:22:00 EST. Doesn't matter, really. All that matters is that it's here! This is the next generation of Apple's iOS slate and, as usual, she's a beaut -- and yes, she's still rockin' a physical button. As was rumored this thing is packing a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/17/alleged-ipad-3-retina-display-examined-under-a-microscope/">Retina display</a>, potentially making this the most pixel-packed slate on the market. The 9.7-inch screen plays host to 3.1 million pixels in a 2048 x 1536 arrangement -- that's 264ppi. It's not just a higher resolution though, the screen also boasts improved color saturation. Of course, what would a new iPad be without some updated guts. The new model has an <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/20/ipad3-a5x-cpu/">A5X processor</a> and quad-core graphics chip. Apple even claims its newest sliver of silicon can deliver four times the performance of a Tegra 3 -- we'd say dems fightin' words.<br /><br />There's also a new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/07/new-ipad-puts-the-camera-back-in-focus-five-mp-sensor-af-lens/">iSight camera</a> on board that's quite similar to the version inside the iPhone 4S. It's only five-megapixels, but it does have a backside illuminated sensor with a five element lens. It's also capable of capturing 1080p video, which should come as no surprise. We're also excited to see the keyboard sporting a brand new dictation key that lets you speak instead of type -- yes, just like on Android. The new software inside will also let you use the slate as a portable WiFi hotspot... so long as the carriers are game. It even has the ability to recognize at least some bezel gestures, as revealed during its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/07/apple-introduces-iphoto-for-ipad-alongside-updated-garage-band/">iPhoto demo</a>.<br /><br />Perhaps most exciting though, is the new connectivity options -- you guessed, LTE! The new iPad is sporting 21Mbps HSPA+, but it's also rocking an LTE radio capable of pulling down 73Mbps on both Verizon <em>and</em> AT&amp;T here in the US. Outside of the states Rogers, Bell and Telus will also be scoring 4G flavors of the iOS tablet. Amazingly enough, even with an LTE antenna on board, Apple is still claiming to get 10 hours of battery life. That's probably partially do to the slightly increased weight of 1.4lbs, though the 9.4mm thickness is nothing to sniff at.<br /><br />The new iPad will be available March 16th, starting at $499 for the 16GB WiFi model and scaling up to $829 for the 64GB version with 4G. So, on the price front, nothing has changed. Pre-orders start today in the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia, with much of the rest of the globe to follow on March 23rd. For more details hit up the PR after the break.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/the-new-ipad-is-official/">The new iPad is official</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/the-new-ipad-is-official/#4879994"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/03/ipad20120307new111104_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/the-new-ipad-is-official/#4879995"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/03/ipad20120307new111105_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/the-new-ipad-is-official/#4879991"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/03/ipad20120307new111101_thumbnail.jpg" alt="The new iPad is official" title="The new iPad is official" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/the-new-ipad-is-official/#4879992"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/03/ipad20120307new111102_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/the-new-ipad-is-official/#4879993"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/03/ipad20120307new111103_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/meet-the-new-ipad/">Meet the new iPad</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/meet-the-new-ipad/#4880864"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/03/ipadhandheroprint_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/meet-the-new-ipad/#4880866"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/03/ipadpfvpfvlfspringboardprint_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/meet-the-new-ipad/#4880867"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/03/iphotoipadwhiteeditprint_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><br /><em style="color: rgb(68, 68, 68); font-family: georgia; font-size: 14px; line-height: 19px; ">For more coverage of Apple's iPad event, visit <a href="http://www.engadget.com/event/apple-ipad-event-2012" style="outline-style: none; outline-width: initial; outline-color: initial; text-decoration: none; color: rgb(0, 189, 246); ">our hub</a>!</em><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/07/the-new-ipad-is-official/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>The new iPad is official, with Retina display, LTE and A5X CPU. While the letter stops short of saying the 2G network is being shut down, it seems the writing is on the wall. With the collapse of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/19/atandt-abandons-t-mobile-merger-plans/">T-Mobile acquisition</a> and Verizon's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/verizon,spectrum">sizable lead</a> in the race to acquire spectrum, AT&amp;T is left with little choice but to use its GSM channels for HSPA+ and LTE service. So far the notices have only gone out to customers in the New York metro area, but it seems safe to assume other locales will follow. The only question is whether the carrier will lean on hold-outs the same way it did when the time came to kill off <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/08/15/atandt-leans-harder-on-tdma-customer-base/">TDMA</a> -- with a tax on primitive technology.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/04/atandt-urging-customers-to-upgrade-to-3g-possibly-killing-off-2g/">AT&amp;T urging customers to upgrade to 3G, possibly killing off 2G</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 04 Mar 2012 02:39:00 EST. In this case, those 4G speeds are being "delivered" by an HSPA+ radio, a fact that carrier managed to bury in the PR. The Honeycomb device will be bringing its unique set of 5.5-inch screens to Ma Bell starting March 4th for the rather steep price of $400 <em>with</em> a two year contract. If you don't want to sign your soul over you can pick one up unsubsidized for $550, which is still quite a bit less than the cost of importing one of its &pound;500 <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/05/sony-tablet-p-review-uk-edition/">UK siblings</a>. Nokia just confirmed that an LTE version of its flagship <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Lumia900/">Lumia 900</a> will be crossing the border into Canada in April, running on Rogers' network, while a dual-carrier HSPA+ flavor will be hopping the Atlantic sometime in Q2, with a &euro;480 (about $650) price tag in tow. Naturally, it'll include Nokia Drive, but there's another treat in store -- Nokia Reading. The app will be available as a free download, and acts as a digital media hub, aggregating content in a magazine-like format. The new Lumia 900s also add a front-facing camera, in addition to that Carl Zeiss lens-sporting snapper out back. Also, as you can see in the image above, Nokia has confirmed a gorgeous white version of the Windows Phone device, which we saw leaked <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/07/white-lumia-900/">earlier this month</a>. As for a release date to go along with that previously announced AT&amp;T version? We're still <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/13/nokia-lumia-900-coming-to-retail-on-march-18/">hoping for March 18th</a>, though we have yet to get a firm commitment from the carrier or manufacturer.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/white-nokia-lumia-900/">White Nokia Lumia 900 hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/white-nokia-lumia-900/#4845521"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/02/nokialumia900white01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/white-nokia-lumia-900/#4845523"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/02/nokialumia900white02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/white-nokia-lumia-900/#4845524"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/02/nokialumia900white03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/white-nokia-lumia-900/#4845525"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/02/nokialumia900white04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/white-nokia-lumia-900/#4845526"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/02/nokialumia900white05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><em>Myriam Joire contributed to this report.</em><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/27/nokia-grows-lumia-900-family-canada-gets-lte-hspa-for-everyon/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Nokia grows Lumia 900 family: Canada gets LTE, HSPA+ for everyone else</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/27/nokia-grows-lumia-900-family-canada-gets-lte-hspa-for-everyon/">Nokia grows Lumia 900 family: Canada gets LTE, HSPA+ for everyone else</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 27 Feb 2012 02:54:00 EST. We saw evidence of this from <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/13/mediatek-sees-no-reason-cheap-phones-cant-have-ice-cream-sandwi/">MediaTek</a> earlier in the week, and now the crew at <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/renesas">Renesas</a> is looking to join the race with its MP5232 system on a chip (SoC). This entrant touts a 1.5GHz dual-core CPU, along with HSPA+ and LTE radios on the same chip -- much like offerings from competitors <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/08/qualcomm-outs-snapdragon-s4-soc-details-promises-improved-batte/">Qualcomm</a> and ST-Ericsson. Renesas estimates that with its SoC, a smartphone can be delivered to the customer for as little as $150 -- mind you, carrier subsidies should be able to swallow the rest. Renesas is also pushing its chip to tablet makers, and expects products with its internals to reach consumers in as little as six to nine months. If you're an OEM (or just wanna pretend), you'll find the full PR after the break.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/17/renesas-mp5232-soc/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Renesas MP5232 SoC promises dual-core processing and LTE connectivity for less cash</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/17/renesas-mp5232-soc/">Renesas MP5232 SoC promises dual-core processing and LTE connectivity for less cash</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 17 Feb 2012 01:20:00 EST. And then there were three. AT&amp;T's lonesome LTE duo -- the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/11/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-skyrocket-review/">Samsung GS II Skyrocket</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/09/htc-vivid-review/">HTC Vivid</a> -- just gained a new member with the recent launch of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/01/lg-nitro-hd-hands-on/">LG's Nitro HD</a>. You may recognize this particular handset from its former life as the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/04/lg-optimus-lte-now-official-high-speed-data-alongside-a-high-de/">Optimus LTE</a>, except here the phone's been rebranded with a moniker that more astutely conveys its blazing 4G purpose. There may be tough times ahead for the handset, considering the current crop of high-end devices hogging the spotlight. But if three's company, the Galaxy Nexus, HTC Rezound and Droid RAZR are sure to make this a standing room-only crowd -- an especially haughty bunch given their heavyweight specs. Which is why this sudden end-of-year release for the Nitro HD has us questioning the company's timing. Sure, it's no slouch when stacked up against the competition, with a 4.5-inch 1280 x 720 AH-IPS display, dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm APQ8060 processor and 1.3 front-facing / 8 megapixel rear cameras. Yet at $250 on contract, the Nitro HD needs to outshine the legacy set by its best-in-class Sammy stablemate or, at least, offer a performance boost over the cheaper Vivid. So can LG's last second contender rise above the fray to win your holiday dollars? Will it succeed in outclassing its LTE compadres? Or is it a case of too little, too late for this <em>me <strike>too</strike> three!</em> smartphone. Follow on past the break as we dive into the mobile nitty gritty.<br />

So, you dig what Sammy is doing with Honeycomb on the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/08/samsung-galaxy-tab-10-1-review/">10.1</a> and the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/10/samsung-galaxy-tab-8-9-review/">8.9</a>, but you're looking for something a little smaller. The <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/28/samsung-galaxy-note-review/">Note</a> has struck your interest, but perhaps its dimensions are just a tad too diminutive for your tastes. Well sir or ma'am, you're exactly the type of person Samsung is hoping to snag with its Galaxy Tab <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/21/samsung-galaxy-tab-7-0-plus-wifi-hitting-the-us-november-13th-fo/">7.0 Plus</a>. You can already <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/20/galaxy-tab-7-0-plus-ready-for-your-pre-orders-sticky-with-honey/">order one</a> with WiFi on board, but if it's cellular capabilities you're looking for, the latest model that just sauntered through the FCC might be the ticket. The GT-P6200 is sporting a little extra something in the way of an HSPA+ radio. Specifically the cellular modem comes supporting the 850MHz and 1900MHz GSM bands used by AT&amp;T. So, perhaps Ma Bell is looking to refresh its tablet family, which is still hawking the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/01/samsung-galaxy-tab-review/">OG Galaxy Tab</a> (no Honeycomb on that bad boy). There's also 802.11n and Bluetooth 3.0 antennas on board. Hit up the source link for all the fun regulatory minutia.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/17/galaxy-tab-7-0-plus-hits-the-fcc-sporting-atandt-compatible-hspa/">Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus hits the FCC sporting AT&amp;T-compatible HSPA+</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 17 Nov 2011 15:35:00 EST. <em>Faux-G</em> or 4G -- whatever you choose to call it, T-Mobile's sprinkling more of that mobile might to its subs across the nation. The carrier's just expanded the footprint of its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/13/t-mobile-brings-42mbps-hspa-to-56-new-markets-now-tops-150-loc/">42Mbps flavor of HSPA+</a> to an additional 11 cities, letting proud owners of its newborn <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/15/htc-amaze-4g-review/">Amaze 4G</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/11/t-mobile-samsung-galaxy-s-ii-review/">Galaxy S II variant</a> enjoy battery-slurping high speeds in a total of 163 markets. Magenta's sprightly, albeit lesser 21Mbps network has also gotten a shot of Miracle-Gro, now branching out to nine more spots for a total of 208 locations. You can peep the full list of new markets after the break, as well as the requisite boastful PR.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/17/t-mobile-increases-21mbps-and-42mbps-hspa-footprint-blankets-t/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>T-Mobile increases 21Mbps and 42Mbps HSPA+ footprint, blankets the nation in faux-G</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/17/t-mobile-increases-21mbps-and-42mbps-hspa-footprint-blankets-t/">T-Mobile increases 21Mbps and 42Mbps HSPA+ footprint, blankets the nation in faux-G</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 17 Nov 2011 06:30:00 EST. At its investor conference earlier today, Qualcomm unveiled a variety of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/16/qualcomm-announces-a-slew-of-new-snapdragon-processors-upgrades/">new Snapdragon processors</a> to join its recently-announced <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/08/qualcomm-outs-snapdragon-s4-soc-details-promises-improved-batte/">MSM8960 S4 chip</a>. But we got an exclusive first look at the 8960 in New York City this evening, in the form of a mobile development platform (MDP) tablet demo during <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/16/the-engadget-show-is-live-here-at-6-00pm-et/"><em>The Engadget Show</em></a>. The tablet the company had on hand isn't much to look at -- it's not the slimmest we've seen, and it feels a bit clunkier than models destined for consumers -- but its specs, which include an on-die LTE modem (the first of its kind -- we were seeing download speeds of around 45 Mbps), dual 1080p cameras (and another two for 3D), seven microphones, a spattering of sensors and a handful of connectors make this the ultimate platform for Android developers. Not convinced? Join us past the break for a hands-on walkthrough with Raj Talluri, Qualcomm's VP of Product Management, and stay turned for his segment from <em>The Engadget Show</em>.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/qualcomm-snapdragon-s4-liquid-mobile-development-platform-tablet-hands-on/">Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Liquid mobile development platform tablet hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/qualcomm-snapdragon-s4-liquid-mobile-development-platform-tablet-hands-on/#4616607"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/qcom01eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/qualcomm-snapdragon-s4-liquid-mobile-development-platform-tablet-hands-on/#4616608"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/qcom02eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/qualcomm-snapdragon-s4-liquid-mobile-development-platform-tablet-hands-on/#4616609"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/qcom03eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/qualcomm-snapdragon-s4-liquid-mobile-development-platform-tablet-hands-on/#4616610"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/qcom04eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/qualcomm-snapdragon-s4-liquid-mobile-development-platform-tablet-hands-on/#4616611"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/11/qcom05eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/16/qualcomm-announces-snapdragon-s4-liquid-mobile-development-platf/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Qualcomm announces Snapdragon S4 Liquid mobile development platform tablet on The Engadget Show, we go hands-on (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/16/qualcomm-announces-snapdragon-s4-liquid-mobile-development-platf/">Qualcomm announces Snapdragon S4 Liquid mobile development platform tablet on The Engadget Show, we go hands-on (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 16 Nov 2011 18:33:00 EST. <p>
	So we thought an update was coming <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/07/lg-optimus-3d-app-converter-starts-roll-out-this-month-why-sett/">last month</a>, but like those three-dimensional phantasms the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/31/lg-optimus-3d-review/">Optimus 3D</a> is capable of conjuring, it appears it wasn't really there. LG now plans to lump the 2D to 3D app convertor, camera upgrades and some more nuggets into its feet-dragging Gingerbread upgrade, starting this month. Alongside 3D video editing and automatic image-stabilization, the customized version of Android 2.3 will unleash a speedier HSPA+ connection boosting maximum download speeds to 21Mbps, and "advanced copy/paste" -- something we're very excited about. LG also promises longer music playback from the upgraded 3D phone, with the software refresh pegged to start on carrier-unlocked handsets in Europe next week, rolling out elsewhere in time for the new year. While LG will be bringing the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/updates/which-devices-will-get-ice-cream-sandwich/">ICS upgrade</a> to its Optimus 2X, it has remained tight-lipped on the dual-camera'd stablemate -- that's probably not a good sign.</p><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/15/optimus-3d-gingerbread-update-coming-world-shrugs-stares-wistf/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Optimus 3D Gingerbread update coming, world shrugs, stares wistfully at Ice Cream Sandwich</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cellphones/" rel="tag">Cellphones</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/15/optimus-3d-gingerbread-update-coming-world-shrugs-stares-wistf/">Optimus 3D Gingerbread update coming, world shrugs, stares wistfully at Ice Cream Sandwich</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 15 Nov 2011 19:12:00 EST. When HTC entered the tablet game, it did so in reverse course. Where other manufacturers were jostling for elbow room in a 10-inch form factored world, the company opted for smaller, more familiar battleground, eschewing the rough-hewn <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/honeycomb/">Honeycomb OS</a> for a Gingerbread-baked Sense overlay on <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/16/htc-flyer-review/">the Flyer</a>. Naturally, the time for that mini-slate to shine has come and gone. In its stead, we're treated to a flagship of sorts -- HTC's first 10-incher and AT&amp;T's inaugural <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/08/atandt-commits-to-lte-advanced-deployment-in-2013-hesse-and-mead/">4G LTE</a> slate. Android 3.1 makes an appearance here, as does Sense 1.1 for tablets, but is the skinned experience really any different from the custom UX we've all come to love or hate on phones? Can the added <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/htc+scribe/">Scribe pen</a> functionality, repurposed here from its 7-inch brother, transform the Jetstream from third pillar offering to an always-on, on-the-go assistant? And will those newly hatched 700MHz speeds convince you to cough up for that weighty $700 price tag? Follow along past the break to see how it fared.<br />

<br />
HTC's been around this block before -- the LTE one, that is. Back in March, the manufacturer was the first to hold Verizon's hand as it tested the 4G waters with the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/18/htc-thunderbolt-review/">Thunderbolt</a>. That launch may have been <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/25/htc-thunderbolt-said-to-have-terrible-battery-life-might-explai/">fumbled</a> (see: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/21/is-your-thunderbolt-having-lte-mobile-hotspot-problems/">hotspot cycling</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/25/htc-thunderbolt-said-to-have-terrible-battery-life-might-explai/">3G connectivity</a> for starters) and the device plagued by battery issues, but as far as head starts go, Big Red got a big leap. Now the time has come for AT&amp;T to play catch-up, shedding its reliance on an HSPA+ <em>faux-G</em> crutch and shifting over to LTE wireless speeds.<br />
<br />
To do this, the carrier's enlisted HTC's veteran expertise, taking advantage of its 700MHz know-how and offering the manufacturer a redemption song of sorts. This round two redux takes the form of the Vivid: an all-black, metal-backed unassuming plastic slab that houses a dual-core 1.2GHz processor and 8 megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash under a 4.5-inch qHD display. Impressive as its specs may be, AT&amp;T's not betting the entire farm on this phone and is trotting out the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/skyrocket/">Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket</a> alongside to shoulder the burden. But for a device once codenamed the Holiday, its battle for consumers' attention and disposable dollars could prove to be anything but leisurely. Will LTE history and its battery draining missteps repeat themselves? Can AT&amp;T get a leg up on its first place competition with this $199 device? And is the allure of "true" 4G even worth your hard-earned dollars? Follow us after the break as we find out.<br />

Why it's a portable LTE network in a box, of course. BTS and Radisys recently demoed their CoreTx and Trillium products, which may one day bring 4G connectivity to dangerous spots like disaster areas and battlefields. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/20/knighthawk-3g-network-in-a-box-breaks-soldiers-backs-helps-the/">BTS already delivers 3G</a> to areas of Afghanistan and is now working on this upgraded system with support for both LTE and HSPA+. You'll find a few more details in the PR after the break.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/21/portable-lte-network-in-a-box-demoed-ready-to-deliver-4g-to-war/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Portable LTE network in a box demoed, ready to deliver 4G to war zone near you</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/21/portable-lte-network-in-a-box-demoed-ready-to-deliver-4g-to-war/">Portable LTE network in a box demoed, ready to deliver 4G to war zone near you</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 21 Oct 2011 05:03:00 EST. A surprise Ice Cream Sandwich handset this is not -- for that news, you'll have to wait <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/11/samsung-and-googles-ice-cream-sandwich-nexus-prime-event-back/">until later tonight</a>. No, RIM's portrait QWERTY slider may not be the freshest bit of kit in the smartphone arena, but for those dedicated CrackBerry few on T-Mobile, it's 14.4Mbps speeds just might be enough. A leaked screenshot over on <em>TmoNews</em> shows the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/16/blackberry-torch-9810-review/">Torch 9810</a>, currently available on AT&amp;T, alongside a list of its well-known specs. Apart from the addition of WiFi calling and the new Magenta digs, not much here has changed. The capacitive touchscreen still measures in at 3.2-inches, and RIM hasn't bumped the quality of its 5 megapixel rear camera nor the phone's 8GB of storage. While this internal pic doesn't tip us off to an upcoming release window, we're pretty sure this is the same 4G "Dumoine" handset from that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/04/t-mobiles-fall-roadmap-leaks-cornucopia-of-mobile-goods-on-the/">leaked fall roadmap</a>, indicating a potential November 9th launch. So, will this tide you over until RIM gets <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/18/research-in-motion-announces-bbx-combines-the-best-of-blackber/">BBX</a> out into the wireless wild or are you in the market for something a little <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/18/motorola-droid-razr-unveiled/?site=classic"><em>sharper</em></a>?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/19/t-mobile-internal-doc-leaks-blackberry-torch-9810-to-bow-this-n/">T-Mobile internal doc leaks, BlackBerry Torch 9810 to bow this November?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 19 Oct 2011 04:49:00 EST. Last year's iPhone 4 launch brought more than 600,000 pre-orders <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/16/600-000-iphone-4s-pre-ordered-apple-apologizes-for-issues/">within the first 24 hours</a>. This year, that number nearly doubled, topping one million within one day of the device's pre-order availability through AT&amp;T, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/04/sprint-iphone-officially-announced-on-sale-october-14/">Sprint</a> and Verizon. Those that haven't pre-ordered the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/04/iphone-4s-officially-announced-with-a5-cpu/">iPhone 4S</a> can line up at Apple stores beginning at 8 a.m. on October 14th, or you can try your luck at pre-ordering now, though you may need to wait <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/08/apple-iphone-4s-now-shipping-in-one-to-two-weeks-over-200-000/">an extra week or two</a> to get your hands on Apple's new iOS smartphone. Jump past the break for Apple's PR.<br />

<strong>Update:</strong> Maybe not a huge surprise considering the numbers Apple announced earlier today, but Sprint has just let us know that it has sold out of the 16GB iPhone 4S in both black and white for pre-orders, and that it's not taking backorders. 32GB and 64GB models are still available in both colors, however, as is the 8GB iPhone 4.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/10/apple-iphone-4s-pre-orders-exceed-one-million-in-first-24-hours/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Apple iPhone 4S pre-orders exceed one million in first 24 hours (updated)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/10/apple-iphone-4s-pre-orders-exceed-one-million-in-first-24-hours/">Apple iPhone 4S pre-orders exceed one million in first 24 hours (updated)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 10 Oct 2011 08:46:00 EST. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/08/qualcomm-outs-snapdragon-s4-soc-details-promises-improved-batte/"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/10/qualcomm-outs-s4-details.jpg" style="border-width: 0px; border-style: solid; margin: 4px;" /></a></div>
Qualcomm has laid out its details of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/03/qualcomm-overhauls-complex-naming-scheme-introduces-simpler-sna/">upcoming S4 SoC</a>, and yes, there's definitely reason for excitement with this next generation Snapdragon. First, it'll usher in a new 28nm manufacturing process alongside the company's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/05/qualcomm-snapdragon-roadmap-leaks-krait-slithering-on-the-scene/">Krait CPU</a> and Adreno 225 GPU. The move from 45nm to 28nm promises smaller components, lower power consumption and improved thermal performance, while Krait will introduce a new pipeline architecture that promises a full 60% boost over the current Scorpion lineup with clock speeds ranging between 1.5 and 2.5GHz -- along with support for asynchronous multiprocessing and dual-channel memory. As for the GPU, the latest chip flaunts 50% greater performance over the current Adreno 220, where it also provides support for DirectX 9.3 for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/02/qualcomm-announces-dual-and-quad-core-snapdragon-processor-supp/">Windows 8</a>, in addition to OpenGL ES 1.1 and 2.0. Should be quite the gaming experience, eh?<br />
<br />
It doesn't end there, as the S4 <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/msm8960">MSM8960</a> promises multi-mode world capabilities with support for all the commonly used frequencies from 700 to 2600MHz -- quite a feat, indeed. It handles Cat. 3 LTE (up to 100Mbps) and Cat. 24 HSPA+ (up to 42Mbps), along with EV-DO Rev. B, 1x Advanced and TD-SCDMA, as well as GSM, GPRS and EDGE. Oh, and there's <em>also</em> simultaneous support for GPS and GLONASS, along with Bluetooth, WiFi, FM radio and NFC. With samples already being sent to manufacturers, we're quite excited for what 2012 may bring.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/08/qualcomm-outs-snapdragon-s4-soc-details-promises-improved-batte/">Qualcomm outs Snapdragon S4 SoC details, promises improved battery life and true world capability</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 08 Oct 2011 17:12:00 EST. Just because next week's joint Samsung and Google event has been <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/07/samsung-and-google-postpone-ice-cream-sandwich-and-galaxy-nexus/">postponed</a> doesn't mean the leaks have to end. A Sammy handset with the model number I9250, which matches up nicely with the baseband version in the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/07/samsung-galaxy-nexus-spotted-in-the-wild-video/">Galaxy Nexus shots</a> that popped up, just made an appearance at the FCC packing a GSM radio compatible with AT&amp;T and T-Mobile's HSPA networks. It's also boasting dual-band 802.11n, Bluetooth and NFC. Despite suggestions that the next Nexus device would be a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/06/samsung-galaxy-nexus-specs-leak-headed-to-verizon-as-an-exclusi/">Verizon exclusive</a>, we could be looking at the AT&amp;T version or at least the unlocked GSM model. <strike>The fact that it doesn't support T-Mobile's 2100MHz band leads us to believe this won't be popping up in T-Mo shops</strike>. It appears that T-Mobile AWS is included. Noticeably missing, however, is any mention of LTE -- that particular feature could still be the sole realm of Big Red. Hopefully we won't have to wait much longer to find out all the details. One more image after the break.<br />

The second coming of the iPhone 4? Sure enough, Tim Cook just pulled the covers off of the hotly-anticipated <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/02/is-this-apples-cheaper-iphone-4/">iPhone 4S</a> here in Cupertino, making 2011 the first year in the company's current stint in the smartphone business that it chose to launch three new handsets (Verizon's CDMA iPhone 4 included, of course). On the outside the 4S looks exactly like its predecessor, but on the inside it's "all new." Apple has jammed a dual-core A5 CPU inside alongside a new dual-core GPU that supposedly boosts graphics performance by up to 7x. Up front is the same 3.5-inch Retina display we've all come to know and love, and around back is a glass plate. Those antennae around the sides (which caused many users so much trouble) have been revamped and iOS will intelligently switch between two different sets on the fly to avoid dropping calls no matter how you hold it. Those antennae are connected to a dual-mode GSM and CDMA radio that will let Apple's handset roam the globe while enjoying either 14.4Mbps HSPA+ or EV-DO Rev. A.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/iphone-4s-0/">iPhone 4S</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/iphone-4s-0/#4500034"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/10/apple-letstalkiphone2011-10-04i4s1-0_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/iphone-4s-0/#4500036"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/10/apple-letstalkiphone2011-10-04i4s1-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/iphone-4s-0/#4500037"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/10/apple-letstalkiphone2011-10-04i4s1-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/iphone-4s-0/#4500039"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/10/apple-letstalkiphone2011-10-04i4s1-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/iphone-4s-0/#4500040"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/10/apple-letstalkiphone2011-10-04i4s1-4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/iphone-4s-the-camera/">iPhone 4S: The camera</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/iphone-4s-the-camera/#4500593"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/10/camera_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/iphone-4s-the-camera/#4500263"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/10/ca1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/iphone-4s-the-camera/#4500253"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/10/ca15_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/iphone-4s-the-camera/#4500255"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/10/ca12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/iphone-4s-the-camera/#4500261"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/10/ca2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/meet-the-new-iphone-family/">Meet the new iPhone 4S</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/meet-the-new-iphone-family/#4500840"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/10/jrv1iphone4s3upphotosirisprgbdprint_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/meet-the-new-iphone-family/#4500841"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/10/jrv2iphone4suspfwhtphotocropprint-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/meet-the-new-iphone-family/#4500842"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/10/jrv3iphone4suspfwhtremindersprint_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/meet-the-new-iphone-family/#4500843"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/10/jrv4iphone4suspfhrzwhtcameravideoprint_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/04/iphone-4s-officially-announced-with-a5-cpu/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>iPhone 4S officially announced: lands October 14th starting at $199 in sizes up to 64GB, coming to Sprint</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/04/iphone-4s-officially-announced-with-a5-cpu/">iPhone 4S officially announced: lands October 14th starting at $199 in sizes up to 64GB, coming to Sprint</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 04 Oct 2011 13:54:00 EST. We know that Apple won't be <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/27/apple-wants-to-talk-iphone-on-october-4th/">unveiling its next superphone</a> for a few more days, but we may have a tasty tidbit about the iPhone 5 ahead of schedule. So the story goes, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ChinaUnicom/">China Unicom's </a>Deputy Director Huang Wenlian was making a presentation at Macworld Asia, and stated that the new iPhone would utilize the company's HSPA+ 21Mbps network. Now, we aren't saying it's a sure thing, but it appears that Tim Cook could deliver a handset with thrice the data speeds of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/22/iphone-4-review/">its predecessor</a> next week. Fingers crossed, ya'll.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update: </strong>We removed the original picture at the request of PC Watch. See that there? That's confirmation from T-Mobile USA that it'll be stocking the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/08/samsung-galaxy-tab-10-1-review/">Galaxy Tab 10.1</a> soon. Unfortunately, there's no word on whether the model it hawks will boast a WWAN module (or if it's just a magenta-hued WiFi edition), but you can bet we'll be keeping our eyes peeled for news as it comes. Hot on the heels of yesterday's Mobilize announcement, T-Mobile's thrown up a product page for its particular variant of Samsung's uber-hyped handset, in addition to a landing page for the recently unveiled <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/27/hands-on-with-htcs-amaze-4g-video/">HTC Amaze 4G</a> (a rebranded Sensation XE for the states). The operator's set an official October 12th launch date for its 42Mbps HSPA+ smartphones, with concrete pricing that pegs HTC's amazing device at $260, and Sammy's TouchWiz-inflected beast at $230 -- both after a $50 rebate on a new two-year contract. Alongside the Galaxy S II and Amaze 4G, the Sonic 4G Mobile HotSpot is being revealed at <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Mobilize+2011">Mobilize</a>, and it's hailed as the carrier's fastest ever in the category. Predictably, it'll enable five WiFi devices to hop onto T-Mob's HSPA+ 42 network, and there's a microSD card slot for handling file transfers. The wow factor comes courtesy of the embedded OLED indicator display, which shows signal strength, number of devices connected, number of unread text messages, connectivity to the internet, battery level and network connection type. Lips are zipped on pricing, but it'll be available at your nearest Magenta retailer next month.<br />

It seems that Motorola's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/28/motorola-atrix-sequel-gets-candid-with-the-camera-heading-for-a/">successor</a> to the original Atrix has emerged in the streets of Chicago prior to being officially unveiled by AT&amp;T. The crew at <em>The Verge</em> recently scored some hands-on time with the device, and in the process, cleared up much of the speculation regarding Ma Bell's upcoming Atrix 2 -- also known as the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/17/mobile-miscellany-week-of-september-12-2011/">Edison</a>. First, we know the device will indeed have a qHD display, although unlike Moto's other 960 x 540 screens, this one discards the PenTile matrix and features properly proportioned sub-pixels, which delivers crisper text in the process. Additionally, there's now <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/20/motorola-atrix-2-peeks-out-again-from-the-wild-destined-for-a/">further evidence</a> that the handset will <em>not</em> be a member of AT&amp;T's LTE lineup, and thus will be limited to its HSPA+ network. Notably, this revision adds a shutter button along the right edge of the handset, although like the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/15/motorola-photon-4g-review/">Photon</a>, it's only a single-stage mechanism, which is quite a bummer. Similar to the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/08/droid-bionic-review/">Bionic</a>, it features a dual-core 1GHz TI OMAP CPU and delivers comparable benchmarks in the process. Looks like it'll be a fine contender for battle with the biggies from Samsung and Apple, eh?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/23/motorolas-atrix-2-edison-flaunts-qhd-display-hands-on-reveal/">Motorola's Atrix 2 (Edison) flaunts qHD display, hands-on reveals no PenTile matrix</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 23 Sep 2011 06:46:00 EST. We were <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/25/cellular-south-bolts-ctia-says-organization-favors-the-big-boys/">expecting</a> something big to come out of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/CellularSouth/">Cellular South</a> this coming Monday, but we definitely didn't anticipate the company going all Diddy Dirty Money on us. Letting the cat out of the bag a few days early, the regional carrier is re-branding itself as C Spire. The name is apparently inspired by the company's dedication to customized wireless services, and will become official Monday with a new website: cspire.com. The new service includes an app recommendation program, known as Scout, a rewards program called Percs, "social media integration," and customer service initiatives known as Pulse and Circle. This new name also ushers "personalized plans" with "infinite data," which C Spire's CEO, Hu Meena, points out is <em>actually</em> unlimited, with no nights-and-weekends-style restrictions -- except when it comes to streaming data (which will carry its own unique charges). He went on to say that the new services will come at no charge to existing <strike>Cellular South</strike> C Spire customers. And the whole shebang looks like it's going to be an opt-in affair.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/22/cellular-south-renamed-c-spire-wireless-becomes-puff-daddy-of-r/">Cellular South renamed C Spire Wireless, becomes Puff Daddy of regional carriers</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 22 Sep 2011 17:37:00 EST. You've endured almost a year's worth of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/28/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-review/">Galaxy S II teasing</a>, so what's a few more weeks? AT&amp;T's swiftly sped past its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/11/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-coming-soon-to-atandt-sign-up-page-goes-liv/">"coming soon" announcement</a> for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/30/galaxy-s-ii-for-sprint-atandt-and-t-mobile-hands-on/">Sammy's heralded handset</a>, now giving us a firm release date of October 2nd for its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/31/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-logs-confirm-nfc-support-for-atandt-none-for/">NFC-enabled variant</a>. You can snag the 4.3-incher when it hits the carrier for $199.99 on a two-year contract, and choose from the usual array of data packages -- with $15/mo being the minimum required. Make sure to enter your deets at the source link below so you'll be first in line for this sure-fire, sell-out device.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/21/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-makes-its-atandt-debut-october-2nd-for-199-on/">Samsung Galaxy S II makes its AT&amp;T debut October 2nd for $199 on contract</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 21 Sep 2011 11:41:00 EST. Does America need another wireless operator? Is the MVNO <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2007/12/17/xe-mobile-r-i-p-another-mvno-goes-to-the-cell-tower-in-the-sk/">boneyard</a> really due for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/09/28/mobileespn-against-the-ropes/">another</a>? Are you eager for a carrier that adapts to your needs, and magically delivers "stuff" that matters to you? Have you watched Napoleon Dynamite with your closest friends within the past week? We can't promise that "Personalized Wireless" (or whatever it ends up being called) is destined to answer all of those inquiries, but it'll at least strive to formulate a logical response to one of 'em. A newly-aired teaser clip promises a network of a different color here in the States, and the company's product page (captured above) leads to believe that all will be revealed come September 26th. We're surmising that this has something to do with either <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/2008/03/25/comcast-time-warner-sprint-and-clearwire-could-join-forces-on/">Comcast</a> or <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Clearwire/">Clearwire</a> given the token "C" logo at the end, but we'd be happy hear other opinions of the origin down in comments below. Vid's after the break, vaquero.<br />

<strong>Update</strong>: We have it on good authority that the launch here relates to Cellular South's recent buyout of a number of southern cellular shops, with this being the merger of those. There aren't any details yet on what it'll mean for prospective customers in that region, but it seems -- at least for now -- that this won't be a national rollout.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/20/personalized-wireless-launching-september-26th-bringing-mysteri/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>'Personalized Wireless' launching September 26th (update: it's Cellular South, and it'll be regional)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/20/personalized-wireless-launching-september-26th-bringing-mysteri/">'Personalized Wireless' launching September 26th (update: it's Cellular South, and it'll be regional)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 20 Sep 2011 11:42:00 EST. So <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/09/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-now-shipping-for-100-in-america-on-alask/">a regional carrier</a> from the home of Palin and moose meat beat 'em to the punch, but AT&amp;T's at least showing signs that it's ready to get the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/28/samsung-galaxy-s-ii-review/">Samsung Galaxy S II</a> train rolling. While it still looks like Sprint <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/30/galaxy-s-ii-finally-lands-on-american-shores-for-sprint-t-mobil/">will be the first</a> of the Big Four to bring its variant of the Android phone to the US, AT&amp;T's page for the handset is now live and sporting a nice big "Coming Soon!" Leave it the regional folks to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/03/cincinnati-bell-lands-nokias-xpressmusic-5800-149-99-on-contr/">steal the thunder</a> of the Big Four. While we were all led to think that Sprint's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/30/galaxy-s-ii-finally-lands-on-american-shores-for-sprint-t-mobil/">Epic 4G Touch</a> would be the first subsidized Galaxy S II to officially land in the US of A, it looks as if Alaska's GCI has beat 'em all to the punch -- and in more areas than one. A tipster residing in The Last Frontier just picked one up today, and best of all, it's running a solid Benjamin less than it will on those <i>other</i> operators. Oh, and it's compatible with the company's "4G" (read: HSPA+) network. Unadulterated wilderness? Yep. Northern Lights? <a href="http://www.gadling.com/2011/03/04/tutorial-how-to-properly-shoot-photograph-the-northern-lights/" target="_blank">Definitely</a>. Early / cheap access to the year's hottest Android smartphone? Evidently. So, who's up for a little northern exposure?<br />

We knew good and well <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/12/atandt-launches-sony-ericsson-xperia-play-with-blue-color-option/">it was coming</a>, and come it has. Sony Ericsson's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/28/sony-ericsson-xperia-play-review/">Xperia Play</a> has made the natural GSM shift in the States in order to grace Ma Bell's airwaves, and despite the "4G" naming convention, this fellow will be topping out at HSPA+. In other words, LTE lovers will need to look <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/27/exclusive-htc-holiday-for-atandt-in-the-wild-4g-lte-1-2ghz-4/">elsewhere</a>. This marks the first launch of a PlayStation-certified smartphone for AT&amp;T, and given that it's been around the block a time or two, the carrier is (smartly) pricing it at just $49.99 on a two-year contract -- a buck-fifty less than what it <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/17/sony-ericsson-xperia-play-hits-verizon-for-200-on-contract/">launched for</a> on Verizon Wireless. As we'd heard, it'll ship with Android 2.3.3, a 1GHz CPU, Adreno 205 GPU, a 4-inch display (854 x 480) and will arrive in an exclusive 'stealth blue' hue. AT&amp;T customers will also be blessed with a gratis Multimedia Dock (DK300) and MC100 music cable, not to mention seven pre-loaded games at no charge. Full details on that are hosted up after the break, and interested consumers can line up to grab their own on September 18th.<br />

Have a gander. Take as long as you need. <i>That</i>, friends, is the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/18/htcs-puccini-tablet-passes-through-the-fcc-has-atandt-written-al/">AT&amp;T-bound</a> HTC Puccini, and it'll be the first tablet to hit Ma Bell with inbuilt LTE support. According to our sources, the Android-based slate is currently in testing, and should be hitting the markets in the not-too-distant future. 'Course, AT&amp;T just started <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/16/atandt-momentum-4g-and-elevate-4g-scheduled-for-august-21st-launch/">shipping</a> its first two LTE devices, but having something <i>other</i> than a WWAN modem would certainly be appreciated. As for specs? We've confirmed that a 1.5GHz <em>dual-core</em> processor is onboard, alongside 1GB of RAM, Honeycomb, 16GB of storage, an 8 megapixel rear camera and a 10.1-inch WXGA touchpanel. We're digging for more as we speak, and will be updating accordingly. Meanwhile, feel free to peruse the gallery below -- oh, and that "smaller" device? That's the WiFi-only Flyer that we saw soar <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/28/wifi-htc-flyer-visits-the-fcc-leaves-behind-a-line-drawn-callin/">through the FCC</a> in April. That'll be let loose on US shores next month, and we're sniffing around for a price as we speak.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update</strong>: We've now received a gallery's worth of screenshots from within the device. It's clearly running Android 3.1 with "HTC Sense 1.1 for Tablet." The shots also clarify that Bluetooth 3.0 is included, with a WiFi module capable of handling 802.11a/b/g/n waves. Mmm!<br />

Looks like Sammy's Android 2.3 demi-god is just about ready to touch down on this side of planet Earth. Spotted out in the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/05/samsung-hercules-snapped-in-the-wild-powering-its-way-to-telus/">wilds of Canada</a> once again, the much anticipated <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/07/samsung-hercules-confirmed-as-a-tmobile-galaxy-s-ii-variant/">Hercules</a> handset -- a confirmed Galaxy S II variant -- has been captured in not-quite-Mr. Blurrycam form over on <em>MobileSyrup</em>. The device, shown here running on Telus' network, is rumored to pack a 4.5-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, 2 megapixel front-facing camera, 42Mbps HSPA+ radio and a 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor -- although that Quadrant score could very well indicate an Exynos chip. While we still lack any firm release dates for the phone's Northern American debut, we'd bet that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/16/samsung-hercules-htc-ruby-available-from-t-mobile-on-october-26/">leaked T-Mobile October launch</a> is a good yardstick for soon.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/17/samsung-hercules-gets-its-telus-on-in-leaked-glamour-shots/">Samsung Hercules gets its Telus on in leaked glamour shots</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 17 Aug 2011 19:19:00 EST. With it having been in the works for so long, it's easy to forget that AT&amp;T is ready to flip the switch on its sparkling-new <a href="http://mobile.engadget.com/tag/lte,att">LTE network</a> virtually any second now. But Ma Bell is happy to remind us of its impending <strike>true</strike> 4G launch by announcing that its first two <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/12/atandt-shipping-hspa-lte-usbconnect-momentum-4g-and-elevate-4g/">dedicated LTE devices</a>, the USBConnect Momentum 4G and Mobile Hotspot Elevate 4G, are set to be sold in stores this upcoming Sunday. In addition, users of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/05/atandts-new-usb-modems-include-hspa-lte-upgradeable-and-prepai/">USBConnect Adrenaline</a> will be able to download a firmware update on August 26th that turns on its dormant LTE radio. The carrier also officially announced that its DataConnect plans will be offered for $50 per month for 5GB, with usage charges of $10 for each additional GB. Hold your horses, though -- the units will be available for purchase and can be used on HSPA+ for now, but it doesn't guarantee AT&amp;T will activate the higher-speed 4G network next week. Nay, we may have to wait just a little longer before <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ralph+de+la+vega/">Ralph de la Vega</a> pushes the big red button on his desk, but that day is not too distant.</div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/16/atandt-momentum-4g-and-elevate-4g-scheduled-for-august-21st-launch/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>AT&amp;T USBConnect Momentum 4G and Mobile Hotspot Elevate 4G scheduled for August 21st launch</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/16/atandt-momentum-4g-and-elevate-4g-scheduled-for-august-21st-launch/">AT&amp;T USBConnect Momentum 4G and Mobile Hotspot Elevate 4G scheduled for August 21st launch</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 16 Aug 2011 12:39:00 EST.
