It's a significant departure from last year's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/02/htc-one-x-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">One X</a> -- our favorite handset of 2012 -- and represents the company's most important product to date. The HTC One is positioned to become a true global flagship, a phone that's available unmolested on all carriers worldwide, a device that really competes with the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Galaxy/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Galaxies</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/iPhone/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">iPhones</a> of the world. We spent some time with the HTC One to understand the direction the company is taking with this handset. Join us after the break for our hands-on video and detailed hardware impressions, then go read our <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2013/02/19/htc-one-software-hands-on-sense-5-blinkfeed-sense-tv-and-new/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">software</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2013/02/19/htc-one-imaging-in-depth-ultrapixel-camera-and-zoe-share/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">camera</a> posts as well. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-hands-on-1/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">HTC One hardware hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-hands-on-1/5649990?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/02/dsc06270_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-hands-on-1/5649991?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/02/dsc06273_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-hands-on-1/5649992?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/02/dsc06278_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-hands-on-1/5649993?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/02/dsc06280_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-hands-on-1/5649994?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/02/dsc06283_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-software-hands-on/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">HTC One software hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-software-hands-on/5650370?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/02/htconesoftware2013-02-19-08.51.50mat_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-software-hands-on/5650374?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/02/htconesoftware2013-02-19-08.52.00mat_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-software-hands-on/5650378?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/02/htconesoftware2013-02-19-08.52.08mat_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-software-hands-on/5650381?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/02/htconesoftware2013-02-19-08.52.16mat_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-software-hands-on/5650385?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/02/htconesoftware2013-02-19-08.52.21mat_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></p>

Three devices have crossed our desks over the past year -- the original with HSPA+, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/01/htc-one-x-for-att-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">AT&amp;T's model</a> with LTE and, more recently, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/31/htc-one-x-plus-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">global One X+</a> with HSPA+. Now the saga continues with AT&amp;T selling <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/04/htc-one-x-for-atandt-hands-on-tegra-3-lte-and-jelly-bean-togeth/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">its own version</a> of the One X+ with LTE on board. What's different between these handsets? How does AT&amp;T's $200 variant stack up against its global counterpart? Is it worth spending an additional $100 (or more) for AT&amp;T's One X+ versus the original One X? Does the bump in storage (64GB vs. 16GB) make up for the lack of color options? Find out after the break.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-x-review-atandt-model/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">HTC One X+ review (AT&amp;T model)</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-x-review-atandt-model/5485620?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/12/htconexplusattreview01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-x-review-atandt-model/5485622?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/12/htconexplusattreview02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-x-review-atandt-model/5485623?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/12/htconexplusattreview03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-x-review-atandt-model/5485624?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/12/htconexplusattreview04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-x-review-atandt-model/5485625?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/12/htconexplusattreview05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div> <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-x-review-0/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">HTC One X+ review</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-x-review-0/5393351?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/10/dsc0826_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-x-review-0/5393352?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/10/dsc0832_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-x-review-0/5393353?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/10/dsc0836_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-x-review-0/5393354?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/10/dsc0837-1351509209_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-x-review-0/5393355?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/10/dsc0838_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></p>

Say hello to HTC's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/02/att-htc-one/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">One VX for AT&amp;T</a>, a stylish mid-range smartphone running <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/IceCreamSandwich/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Ice Cream Sandwich</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Sense4/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Sense 4</a>. It features a 4.5-inch qHD <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/SuperLCD2/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Super LCD 2</a> display with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/GorillaGlass2/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Gorilla Glass 2</a>, Qualcomm 1.2GHz dual-core <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/SnapdragonS4/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Snapdragon S4</a> processor (MSM8930) with GSM/EDGE/UMTS/HSPA+/LTE radio, 1GB DDR2 RAM, 8GB of on-board storage and a five megapixel f/2.0 autofocus BSI camera with flash and 1080p video recording.</p><p> The front glass incorporates the earpiece, AT&amp;T logo and VGA shooter up top along with the usual capacitive buttons (back, home and recent apps / menu) below the display. A silver plastic rim traces the sides of the handset -- it's a simple and familiar layout, with the power / lock key, headphone jack and secondary mic on top, micro-USB port and primary mic at the bottom, and the volume rocker on the right edge. Pop the white plastic back cover and you'll find micro-SIM and microSD card slots, a non-removable 1810mAh battery and the NFC antenna.</p><p> Unfortunately, we were given a non-functional dummy unit to play with so we can't comment on things like screen quality or subjective performance. We can tell you that the phone is light, thin and feels good in the hand -- it slots somewhere between the One S and the One X in terms of size, and looks nice despite being made of cheaper materials than its stablemates. AT&amp;T and HTC are still mum on availability but we were told to expect aggressive, budget-friendly pricing. Want to see more? Take a look at our gallery below and our hands-on video after the break.</p><p> <strong>Update:</strong> we expect to see a working One VX at today's AT&amp;T announcement so stay tuned for more impressions.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-x-and-one-vx-for-atandt-0/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">HTC One VX for AT&amp;T hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-x-and-one-vx-for-atandt-0/5336042?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/10/htconexplusonevx47_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-x-and-one-vx-for-atandt-0/5336043?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/10/htconexplusonevx48_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-x-and-one-vx-for-atandt-0/5336044?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/10/htconexplusonevx49_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-x-and-one-vx-for-atandt-0/5336027?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/10/htconexplusonevx32_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-x-and-one-vx-for-atandt-0/5336028?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/10/htconexplusonevx33_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></p>

Make it better, of course, and that's exactly what HTC's done with the One X+ for AT&amp;T. This is the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/02/htc-one-x-plus-uk-hands-on/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">same improved handset</a> we recently played with in the UK, but unlike <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/01/htc-one-x-for-att-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">AT&amp;T's One X</a> -- which dropped the global model's quad-core <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Tegra3/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Tegra 3</a> with 32GB of storage in favor of a dual-core <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/SnapdragonS4/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Snapdragon S4</a> with only 16GB of flash for the sake of LTE -- AT&amp;T's One X+ gives you the best of both worlds: NVIDIA's 1.7GHz quad-core Tegra 3 AP37 SoC combined with Qualcomm's MDM9215m GSM/EDGE/UMTS/HSPA+/LTE radio plus 32 or 64GB of built-in storage.</p><p> Gone are the white and grey hues -- you can have your One X+ any color you want as long as it's flat black. Whereas the UK version of HTC's new flagship incorporates red accents around the camera and in the Beats logo, the US model is completely black. The rest of the specs match the global version -- you'll find the same gorgeous 4.7-inch 720p <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/SuperLCD2/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Super LCD 2</a> display with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/GorillaGlass2/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Gorilla Glass 2</a>, same impressive eight megapixel f/2.0 autofocus BSI rear camera with flash, same 1GB of DDR2 RAM, along with the updated 2100mAh sealed battery and 1.6MP BSI front-facing shooter capable of 720p video. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/JellyBean/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Jelly Bean</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Sense4/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Sense 4+</a> are on the menu as well, with snappier-than-ever performance.</p><p> Put AT&amp;T's One X and One X+ side-by-side, and other than the color difference you'd be hard-pressed to tell them apart. The carrier's logo is slightly different, but that's about it -- even the docking pins in the back line up perfectly. Other improvements common with the global model include Amplified Sound for clearer sound from the speaker, Sightseeing mode which lets the power button launch the camera and Auto Portrait mode which helps you take better self-portraits. There's still no word on pricing or availability but we invite you to feast your eyes on the gallery below and hit the break for our hands-on video.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-x-and-one-vx-for-atandt/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">HTC One X+ for AT&amp;T hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-x-and-one-vx-for-atandt/5336006?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/10/htconexplusonevx11_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-x-and-one-vx-for-atandt/5336007?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/10/htconexplusonevx12_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-x-and-one-vx-for-atandt/5336008?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/10/htconexplusonevx13_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-x-and-one-vx-for-atandt/5336009?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/10/htconexplusonevx14_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/htc-one-x-and-one-vx-for-atandt/5336010?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/10/htconexplusonevx15_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></p>

Android 4.1, alongside HTC's Sense 4+ UI, is set to arrive on the devices at some point this month. As a disclaimer, this likely won't apply to AT&amp;T's One X or T-Mobile's One S, since the refresh will likely take additional time to make its way through carrier testing -- HTC reps confirmed to us that the October timeframe is specifically for the global versions. Here's to hoping this doesn't mean we'll have to wait until the 31st to get our hands on <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/28/android-4-1-jelly-bean-review-a-look-at-whats-changed-in-googl/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Jelly Bean</a>.</p>

<p class="image-container" style="text-align: center;"> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/17/htc-5-inch-behemoth-phone-may-be-called-one-x-5/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img alt="HTC One X 5 leak" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/09/htc-one-x-5.jpg" /></a></p><p> Something big has been brewing at <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/HTC/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">HTC</a>, most often referred to as the DLX or by its less-than-flattering <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/HTC%206435LVW/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">6435LVW</a> name. While there have been unconfirmed photos of prototypes floating around, a Sina Weibo user has posted what we have reason to believe is an authentic press image of the finished result: meet the One X 5. As the name and image suggest, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/phablet/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">phablet</a>-class device should be dominated by a 5-inch (and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/06/rumored-htc-verizon-phablet-may-land-soon/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">possibly 1080p</a>) screen that makes even a regular <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/02/htc-one-x-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">One X</a> look dainty. Internal details haven't been nailed down alongside the looks, although previous benchmarks have had it using a Snapdragon S4 that might ultimately be a quad-core <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/07/24/qualcomm-snapdragon-s4-pro-apq8064-benchmark/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">S4 Pro</a>. There's no immediate signs of a stylus or other tricks besides that sea of glass. We may not have long to wait before we find out, however. HTC just happens to have a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/04/htc-upcoming-event/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">New York City event</a> planned for this Wednesday, and previously detected links between the 6435LVW and Verizon could see the One X 5 quickly reach the US if it's meant to show at that gathering -- although it might get another name change to fit into the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/07/06/droid-incredible-4g-lte-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Droid family</a>.</p><p> <b>Update:</b> We've been given a <a href="http://www.concept-phones.com/htc/htc-5-inch-phablet-dubbed-5-concept/">heads-up</a> that this is a device <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/dannix-tw/7970600244/in/photostream/">posted</a> as a "concept" by Danny Tu on Flickr, which raises doubt that we'll see exactly what's on show here (or see that name). However, it still lines up with earlier photos and what we've heard. We'll keep you posted as to whether or not it reflects reality in the end.</p>

Of course, let's not forget the Taiwanese outfit also has <em>something else</em> to show us at an <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/04/htc-upcoming-event/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">upcoming special event</a> in NYC. But, regardless of what we'll "see next," the J's <em>actually</em> here -- well, in Japan -- and with eyes set on Hong Kong and Taiwan next, making this the first time that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/02/htc-sense-4-0-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Sense 4-loaded</a> device is headed outside the Land of the Rising Sun.</p><p> Just a quick recap: the HTC J comes with a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 MSM8660A, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, qHD PenTile OLED display, eight-megapixel camera and 1,810mAh battery. As for connectivity, you get quad-band GSM, WCDMA 2,100MHz, CDMA2000 800MHz and WiMAX 2.5-2.7GHz (for Japan and Taiwan only) radios, making it a fairly nice all-rounder albeit with limited regional compatibility for each of the faster connections. Oh, and about that waterproofing business: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/KDDI?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">KDDI</a> doesn't actually list it as a waterproof device, but HTC informed us that while the J meets global standards for waterproofing, it is not marketed as such in Japan due to particular criteria required by said carrier. We shall add more info here if HTC has more to say about this.</p><p> At any rate, Hong Kong folks will be able to pick up this waterproof device for HK$4,498 (about $580) unsubsidized, whereas Taiwan will have to wait until the press event next Tuesday for tariff details on Taiwan Mobile. We saw <em>XDA-Developer</em> member Football4PDA post a schematic of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/01/htc-accord-windows-8-phone-schema-purportedly-leaked-on-twitter/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">the Accord</a> less than a week ago, and today he's posting what could be more concrete information. Supposedly, HTC's inaugural device might be named the 8X -- not quite as charming, but definitely simple. More importantly, the software in the claimed leak suggests the company will bring a trace of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/02/htc-sense-4-0-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Sense UI</a> style to the home screen, rather than having to relegate it to the HTC Hub: a live tile would bring the oversized clock and weather that One owners know so well. Just don't anticipate a flagship device here. If the specifications are real, the 8X would bear more in common with the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/07/06/droid-incredible-4g-lte-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Droid Incredible 4G LTE</a>, sharing its 1.2GHz dual-core chip, 8-megapixel rear camera, Beats Audio and NFC while picking up a slightly larger 4.3-inch screen and 16GB of storage. Our main question centers around the unveiling. While HTC has an <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/04/htc-upcoming-event/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">event lined up</a> for later this month, there's no guarantee that the 8X will show up at that gathering or even launch side-by-side with Windows Phone 8 itself.</p>

Sprint has started pushing out an upgrade that brings its flagship phone both to Android 4.0.4 and to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/06/htc-sense-4-1-reportedly-leaked-with-custom-rom-for-one-x/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Sense 4.1</a>, putting the EVO's software on a par with the just-unveiled <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/30/htc-desire-x-hands-on/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Desire X</a>. Patching up doesn't bring a revolution in features -- you'll mostly notice the known option to change the multitasking button's functionality and hide the on-screen menu key. However, there's a lot of Sprint-specific fixes that make the update worthwhile, such as an LTE "scanning improvement" that some owners suggest is improving their overall cellular data quality. If you already have the update, let fellow readers know how well it's working for you in the comments.<br /> <br /> [Thanks, Jason]</p>

Despite HTC claiming various technical issues as barriers for the upgrade, Team Blackout's Android 4.0.4 build (aka Blackout ICS Incredible) is said to work perfectly on the device. The complete ROM is based on an ICS build for the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/07/08/refresh-roundup-week-of-july-2nd-2012/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Incredible S</a>, and it requires you sacrifice your data in a full wipe before you can enjoy that Sense 3.6 UI. Well-known HTC phone modder Football doesn't want us to get comfy: he claims to have both obtained a leaked version of Sense 4.1's ROM Upgrade Utility (RUU) and folded it into the 2.2 update to his Maximus firmware for the international <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/02/htc-one-x-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">One X</a>. While it's no <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/28/android-4-1-jelly-bean-review-a-look-at-whats-changed-in-googl/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Jelly Bean</a>, the Maximus-tuned version of HTC's Android 4.0 flavor appears to give Sense a shot in the arm, taking care of lag in the launcher and live wallpapers in addition to delivering a healthy overall speed boost. That 0.1 numbering gives a good indication of just how light the visible feature set might be, though -- other than an existing update to substitute the virtual menu button for a long-press of the home key, the interface changes are mostly limited to dedicated buttons for switching browser tabs and between different cameras. It's no surprise that HTC hasn't said a word about its own plans; rumors of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/03/rumored-htc-one-x-with-1-7ghz-tegra-3-revealed-in-nenamark-repo/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">new One devices</a>, however, can't help but fuel suspicions that Sense 4.1 is just around the bend.</p>

An AT&amp;T staff leak at <em>XDA-Developers</em> suggests the carrier is cutting the One X contract price in half to $100 on July 29th, putting it well under its Samsung rival and giving the similarly-priced <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/07/16/motorola-atrix-hd-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Atrix HD</a> no small amount of heat. T-Mobile knows this all too well, and it's using the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/08/htc-one-s-unibody-housing-micro-arc-oxidation-process-eyes-on/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">micro arc oxidized</a> hue as an incentive for loyal employees: work diligently enough, and a black One S with native T-Mobile HSPA+ is yours. There's no word from the <em>TmoNews</em> tipster as to whether or not the color will ever reach the buying public, which could make it a rare collector's item for Android lovers -- not to mention a mild form of torture for HTC enthusiasts. The optimistic among us are hoping that it's a sign of phones to come and that both black as well as gray can live in harmony on T-Mobile shelves.</p>

<p style="text-align: center;"> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/07/12/htc-vertex-pops-up-in-benchmarks/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget"><img alt="HTC Vertex pops up in benchmarks, might bring a slice of One X to tablets" data-src-height="461" data-src-width="600" src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/07/htc-vertex-nenamark.jpg" style="margin: 4px;" /></a></p><p> HTC has been stoking the fires of anticipation for its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/07/11/htc-new-tablet-coming-to-uk/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">return to tablets</a>, and that small flame is quickly turning into a full conflagration. A slab nicknamed the Vertex has surfaced in benchmarks with a 1.3GHz NVIDIA <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Tegra3/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Tegra 3</a> and a 1,280 x 752 usable resolution that's noticeably wider than the similarly Tegra 3-equipped <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/02/htc-one-x-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">One X's</a> 720p display. Other than Android 4.0 (and a probably Sense 4.0), however, there's scant else to go on. The last murmurs of a Vertex from the fall had it carrying a rear 2-megapixel camera and a front 1.3-megapixel shooter, but it's been long enough now that we wouldn't count on that still being true -- or that the new benchmarks necessarily reflect what we might get. Let's just hope that the resulting device is more competitive than the pricey <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/14/htc-jetstream-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Jetstream</a>.</p>

The sequel to one of Verizon's most <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/droid+incredible?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">enduring brands</a> will, as <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/07/02/htc-droid-incredible-4g-lte-coming-to-verizon-july-5/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">promised</a>, set you back $150 on contract once you've taken advantage of that $50 rebate. Its name already reinforces what's new in data speeds, but if the heat of summer has left your memory hazy about everything else, just remember that it's the closest the carrier will get in the near future to having a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/05/htc-one-x-vs-one-s/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">One series</a> phone. The most incredible of Droids has a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/SnapdragonS4/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Snapdragon S4</a>, 960 x 540 screen, 8-megapixel camera and Sense 4.0 like the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/18/htc-one-s-t-mobile-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">One S</a> over at T-Mobile. What's lost in the lower 1.2GHz clock speed and dropping the speedy <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ImageSense/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">ImageSense</a> chip is gained through a more pleasing Super LCD, a removable battery and a micro-SD slot. The carrier made the official announcement today, and you'll be able to nab the handset this Thursday for $150 on contract -- after a $50 mail-in rebate. To jog your memory, the Incredible 4G LTE packs a 1.2GHz dual-core Snapdragon CPU and runs Ice Cream Sandwich with HTC's Sense 4 UI on a 4-inch qHD display. There's also Beats Audio on board, along with Android Beam technology for sharing info by tapping two phones together. Head past the break for the full press info.</p>

The hardware still won't floor anyone, but Virgin Mobile Live is tossed in to perk up the experience. Should Google's platform just not be your bag, you'll also be glad to know that Virgin has recently started taking online orders for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/06/07/virgin-confirms-iphone-4-and-4s-coming-june-29th-pricing-reveal/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">its prepaid iPhones</a>, which officially hit the shops on Friday. The good news: you might be able to cheer up from your post-holiday depression the very next day. According to internal employee docs captured by <em>Droid-Life</em>, we should expect Verizon's first <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/02/htc-sense-4-0-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Sense 4</a> device to arrive at stores on July 5th for $200 with a two-year contract. As always, pricing and availability are never set in stone; after all, internal employee docs gave us <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/06/galaxy-nexus-and-droid-4-landing-in-verizon-stores-december-8th/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">false hope</a> that the Motorola Droid 4 would show up several weeks before it actually launched, but that was likely a result of Verizon pulling the launch at the last minute. Provided Big Red doesn't change its mind (or other snafus throw a wrench into the process), we won't be disappointed this time around.</p>

According to a recent email acquired by <em>TmoNews</em>, it looks as if the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/t-mobile/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Magenta</a> carrier is delaying shipments of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/15/htc-amaze-4g-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">HTC Amaze 4G</a> in the US, saying it's facing "an unforeseen issue with receiving the product from the manufacturer," and that it doesn't know when the handset will be up for grabs again. What's also interesting here, however, is T-Mobile going as far as recommending Sammy's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/02/samsung-galaxy-s-blaze-4g-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Galaxy S Blaze 4G</a> as a substitute -- which, let's face it, can't be good news for HTC. Here's to hoping this all gets sorted out relatively soon. In the meantime, you can check out the aforementioned email in its entirety at the source below.</p>

We're not just talking about obvious UI tweaks here -- <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/02/htc-sense-4-0-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">Sense 4</a>'s horizontal, card-like arrangement vs. Android 4.0's default vertical list -- but actual differences in memory and task management. While we're not running into any problems with our One X review unit, some users have noticed that background app are getting terminated too aggressively, so we reached out to HTC for comment. Here's what the company said:</p><blockquote> <p> <span><span>HTC is aware of some questions in the enthusiast community about how the HTC One X handles multitasking and memory management for background apps. We value the community's input and are always looking for ways to enhance customers' experience with our devices. That said, multitasking is operating normally according to our custom </span><span>memory management </span><span>specifications which balance core ICS features with a consistent HTC Sense experience.</span></span></p></blockquote><p> There you have it. HTC's definitely implemented some multitasking tweaks on handsets running Sense 4. Perhaps this is why battery life is so impressive on <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/01/htc-one-x-for-att-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">AT&amp;T's One X</a>? While we don't believe this is going to be an issue for most people, there's always the option of installing custom ROMs now that the phone's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/09/att-htc-one-x-rooted/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">been rooted</a>.</p>

The first wave of owners will get its Ice Cream Sandwich just desserts on May 16th, when Sensation 4G owners can push Android 4.0.3 to their dual-core 2011 flagships. Amaze 4G users have a looser timeframe of the "coming weeks" to dig in. Either circumstance will see HTC slap on Sense 3.6 like it has with other <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/03/22/htc-vivid-android-4-ics-att/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">pre-2012 device updates</a>, so don't expect a full <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/04/18/htc-one-s-t-mobile-review/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">One S-like</a> Sense 4.0 experience. Do, however, expect to pay an extra $15 per month for hotspot support on the Sensation 4G if you've been sharing your service on the cheap before -- it'll be required for sharing data with Android 4.0 and up.</p>

Better still, the folks over at <em>xda-developers</em> have already squeezed the occasionally laborious process into a one-click install. Friday May 18th appears to be the date in question, with the carrier peddling devices for a cool $199.99 with a two-year service agreement. Sadly, you won't be able to take advantage of those LTE speeds at launch -- Atlanta, Baltimore, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City and San Antonio will be the first cities to light up when they come online <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/05/sprint-first-lte-markets-2012-atlanta-houston-dallas-san-antonio/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">later this year</a> -- so if you have the need for speed right now, you'll need to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/06/htc-one-x-on-sale-att/?utm_source=Feed_Classic&amp;utm_medium=feed&amp;utm_campaign=Engadget">hop on over to AT&amp;T</a>. There's a fluffy Sprint PR awaiting you just past the break.</p>

Be sure to hit either of the source links below to get your pre-order on.</p><p> <strong>Update</strong>: And just like that, Wirefly's May 18th date has mysteriously vanished. <em>What does it mean</em>?</p><p> [Thanks to everyone who sent this in]</p>
