This is seriously one of the most creative uses of old Mac components that I've ever seen. I'm not sure a high-temp bulb next to that white plastic is a great idea, but I suppose if it melts that's just part of its charm. [Photo credit: Photo Giddy]

  • Interesting, impractical iPhone concept lamp

And you thought using an iPhone as a flashlight was crazy... Apparently the above image is just a concept for a flexible iPhone dock that one can easily bend into the form of a lamp. Obviously, the screen is bright enough to give enough light for a small desk area, but is it at all practical? Of course it's not. It should be using the iPhone 4 and its much brighter back-facing LED! To me, the stand looks much too narrow to be practical as an iPhone stand, never mind as a lamp. Still, I've seen crazier things being done with the iPhone when one is in a pinch. [via Obama Pacman]

Happy New Year, everybody! It's 2010, and that means we're all riding around in flying cars, shooting laser guns at each other, and we all have robot servants to do all of our work for us. Oh wait, that didn't work out as planned, did it? At least we've got this awesome lamp, which was made from the old iMac G4 (which was actually nicknamed the "iLamp") that had the monitor moving around on a swivel. The bottom base case has been turned into the shade, but the arm is still there, ready to position the light wherever you want it to go. Pretty sweet. Unfortunately, if you want one of your own, you'll have to hurry: as of this writing, there's only one left for sale on this Etsy page, and that one will set you back $75. But if you've got an old iMac sitting around and a little electric know-how, it shouldn't be too hard to rig one together yourself. Or you could just get your robot servant to do it for you!

  • Speakers + lamp = the iLamp

Like it or not, one of the biggest gadget trends is towards "convergence" (whatever that means), so it's hardly a surprise to see home furnishing company Adesso attempt to combine a couple of speakers with a desk lamp: no prizes for guessing the product's name either -- the iLamp. The speakers connect to sound sources via a standard 3.5mm jack so non-iPod owners aren't excluded, although the built-in stand seems rather conveniently suited to the iPod's dimensions. Available in six different designs each with unique bulbs and wacky names (pictured is the "Rock On!" Architect lamp), the iLamp will set you back $89 -- a fair price to pay for convenience, or yet another iGimmick? You decide.[Via SciFi Tech]

Joining a not-so-elite group of products that have figured out a way to cash in on iPodmania, the iLamp is a task light with an integrated iPod holding dock and built-in speakers. It comes in 6 different - and surprisingly attractive - styles, in a variety of colors, and can also accommodate all non-iPod music players that have a headphone jack. These illuminating beauties are due out in early November and have a price tag of $89, which isn't bad if the speaker quality is decent. Lamps that Rock? You betcha![via Gizmodo]
