Microsoft will stream its latest Inside Xbox update tonight at 6PM ET. The one-hour episode will brief gamers on upcoming games like The Outer Worlds, Studio Wildcard's Atlas and Ghost Recon Breakpoint. We'll also get some insight into Project xCloud, Microsoft's game streaming technology that will presumably go head-to-head with Google Stadia.

Microsoft reminds everyone about Project xCloud with a live demo

There are so many competing attempts to become the Netflix of Gaming -- in more than one form -- it can be hard to remember who is in the mix. Sony just recently reminded everyone of PS4 Remote Play with a new app for iPhones and iPads, and we're already anticipating a big announcement from Google next week. Microsoft doesn't have much new information to share about its own game streaming platform, Project xCloud, but exec Kareem Choudhry did give viewers a live demonstration of the technology during an Inside Xbox broadcast. In an accompanying blog post he confirmed it's still on track to begin real-world tests later this year, and carefully pitched it as an addition to traditional console gaming -- which is still going to be a source for 4K and HDR experiences -- while this can be an option for use on the road or while someone else is watching TV.

  • Channeling my inner Liam Neeson in Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 2013

Video games are great because they let you do the things you either couldn't do in real life or wouldn't want to do. A guilty pleasure for me has always been the Cabela's line of games, a series focusing on hunting animals in their natural habitats. Through this franchise, I've been able to channel my inner Liam Neeson; a man known for punching wolves in the face.Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 2013 let me do something pretty amazing: I got to fight a pride of lions with a shotgun, alone, in the woods. I shot every single one of them and it was pretty intense – though completely the opposite of what I would do in real life if pitted against the horde: run, screaming like a small child.%Gallery-166050%

  • Microsoft hires CBS executive to make original video content for Xbox

After dismissing its Inside Xbox teams in the US and Europe earlier this year, Microsoft has hired a new exec to oversee the creation of original video content for the Xbox brand. Nancy Tellem will oversee a new LA-based studio responsible for producing the content and report directly to Microsoft Studios corporate VP Phil Spencer.Tellem's last post was with CBS, where she served as entertainment president. Her first goal is to put together a team who will start production on exclusive series for Xbox, content that will reach "a very broad range of consumers," she hopes. "We're going to reach out to a very broad range of consumers. When I first got to CBS we looked at what the core audience was and built from there, and that's just what I'm going to do again."The types of content she'll help produce aren't set in stone right now – it could be long-form content or more short-form independent pieces. "What's so exciting about this opportunity is we're looking at the next iteration of television," Tellem told LA Times. "We're starting from scratch and we'll be looking at linear and interactive content, both longer-form, like television, and shorter form."

Although Microsoft was a little cagey about the fate of Inside Xbox content in Europe last week, the company announced today that it will "effectively be retired in Europe." That means first-party content will no longer be produced, with everything transitioning to a third-party content model."So, to be clear and succinct: Inside Xbox is no more, as are our jobs," Dan Maher, Xbox Live Editor and host of SentUAMessage wrote on Twitter. "Your support during the last four years has meant the world to us."The European shutdown comes a week after Microsoft announced the closure of first-party Inside Xbox production in the States and other territories.

Microsoft announced this afternoon that it is ending production of all Inside Xbox content in the US. That means first-party content such as Major's Minute, Featured Videos and Insider Moves has been scrapped. Producers were wished "all the best in their future endeavors.""The only thing that changes are the daily Inside Xbox videos," Xbox's community guru Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb told Joystiq. "Everything else I do is unaffected."As for other regions, Mexico and Japan will continue to produce first-party content "via other media outside of the Inside Xbox brand." Canada, Australia and New Zealand will no longer have Inside Xbox content. Microsoft is "currently looking at its operating model" for Inside Xbox in Europe, Middle East and Africa, which could "result in some changes."

We're not exactly used to finding out hot scoops on Valve's game projects from Xbox Live's "Inside Xbox" feature "SENTUAMESSAGE," so it was especially odd to us when we heard that Left 4 Dead 2's upcoming Left 4 Dead 1 crossover DLC "The Passing" got an official price (560/$7) -- and an ambiguous new release date of "Spring" -- from the feature. But that's just what the latest episode told us, not to mention a handful of new deets on the DLC, including info on new variations of enemies and a few new weapons. Back at X10 in February, Valve told us that the content was set to arrive on Xbox Live/Steam by "late March," though it seems that the window has been extended a few more months. We've fired off an email to Valve to see if a more solid release date exists, and we'll keep you updated if we hear anything back. In the meantime, we've embedded the Inside Xbox clip after the break. [Via Kotaku]

Last week X3F was lucky enough to attend the Canadian launch of Fable II for the Xbox 360 in Toronto, Canada. While throwing back a few brews, invited members of the Xbox community in Canada were able to play through the retail version of the game a week before its release. Canadian Xbox 360 owners connected to Live are now able to see some highlights from the event on Inside Xbox -- including interviews with (a mid-flu) Xav de Matos and our friend DjDatz. Non-Canadian members of the community are invited to check out the video above and see exactly what alcohol can do to some Canadians. Think of it as a Fable II promo and a public service announcement ... all rolled into one.

The announcement of Netflix for the Xbox 360 was certainly one of the major highlights of Microsoft's press conference. Inside Xbox has a video, featuring Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb, walking through how Netflx will work on the New Xbox Experience. The standard definition movies seem to load and begin streaming instantly. This is a feature we imagine many Xbox Live members, who are also Netflix subscribers, will be taking full advantage of later this year.

In an effort to take some of the Inside Xbox workload off of Major Nelson (that man is a video content machine!), Microsoft and IGN have teamed up to offer a weekly dose of IGN's Strategize via the Xbox 360's Inside Xbox. What's Strategize? Well, it's a video game strategy segment hosted by the smiley-happy (and uh, party girl'ish?) Jessica Chobot where she discusses various game tips, tricks and cheats. You can check out the first Inside Xbox edition of Strategize tomorrow, June 27th via the handy Inside Xbox link on your 360's dashboard.

Not to be trumped in the online flesh-and-blood female host arms race by Sony and Qore's Veronica Belmont, Microsoft has announced a partnership with IGN to bring its popular "IGN Strategize" segments to Xbox Live, hosted by IGN host/celebrity Jessica Chobot (who may or may not lick a 360 controller). Larry Hryb, Xbox Live's "Major Nelson," made the announcement this morning via his Twitter feed. A brief preview clip of himself and Chobot chatting has subsequently hit the "Inside Xbox" section of Live. IGN Strategize will soon join the other regular Inside Xbox segments and focus on tips, tricks, and strategies, hence the name.

  • Happy April Fools' from Xbox Live

Oh, April Fools' Day. It is a day that will forever be riddled with falsities and lies. This is particularly true of the video game industry. Given how much fans obsess over every single news-byte and rumor -- we hear there are even entire websites devoted to it -- it's hard to blame all the publishers and developers for wanting to pull one over on their ardent followers. It's all in good fun after all. Enter the latest additions to the Xbox 360 Family: the Wireless Helmet, Xbox Live the Board Game, the Xbox 360 Recon Edition, and the Xbox 360 Vintage Edition. They are -- to save you the trouble -- fake. Of course, they are so obviously fake that it's really not a great April Fools' Day prank (unless you have particularly dense friends, in which case more power to you). Still, it's funny. So, check out the Inside Xbox video (embedded above) and don't forget to pre-order.[Thanks to the many, many people that sent this in!]

  • Video proof: Major Nelson is not Paris Hilton

If you've been paying attention to Inside Xbox, you may recall former Microsoft bigwig Peter Moore (now cozy with EA) calling out one Major Nelson during an interview with Microsoft's TriXie. Specifically, Moore (jokingly) described Major as "self-absorbed," adding, "now he's pretty much, you know, the Paris Hilton of video games. That, you know, he is, you know, above us all." Major Nelson is apparently not one to take things lying down, and he quickly prepared a response video for this week's edition of Major's Minute. We won't spoil it, but rest assured that Major Nelson consulted the highest authority on this matter.

Wowzaz! We didn't know non-U.S. fanboys had so much built up excitement for the Fall update enabled Inside Xbox dashboard feature. But, we guess when you don't have something your desire for it is amplified times sixteen. And that sort of excitement combustion just occurred yesterday when Microsoft officially launched Inside Xbox to Canadian Xbox Live subscribers. Yippy!Previously, Inside Xbox was only available to a few countries including the U.S., but our fellow Canadian gamers couldn't partake in daily Inside Xbox fun. But all that has changed, as Canadian gamers should now be able to click on the Inside Xbox option right above the friends / messages button on the Xbox Live blade to watch Major's Minute, TriXie's Community Confidential and all the crew's bloopers as well. We're sure the Canadian Inside Xbox version will include the same weekly features as its U.S. cousin, but also incorporate exclusive news and events pertinent to Canadian Live members. Check it out, it's Inside Xbox Canadian bacon style. [Thanks, to everyone who sent this in]

  • The best use for Inside Xbox so far: bloopers [update]

So far, we've had mixed feelings about the Inside Xbox feature that was introduced in the latest Fall Update. After all, we already spend our entire day scouring the net for the latest and greatest Xbox news, and Inside Xbox hasn't exactly dropped any exclusive bombshells so far (although we did find out that National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation is on Video Marketplace, score!). Undoubtedly, the most interesting feature is the ability for Inside Xbox to stream video. The potential use for this is pretty intriguing (think exclusive trailers, the next E3 press conference, etc.). However, we're pretty sure we've landed on the best use thus far: bloopers. The next time you get a chance, fire up the old 360 and check out the "Inside Xbox Bloopers" to see what goes into the little community video nuggets produced by TriXie and Major Nelson. You'll even get to hear Major drop some (censored) F-bombs! Now that's entertainment.[Update: The video is now embedded above]
