We can certainly believe such an app exists, and according to <em>The Daily</em>, the UI is similar to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/13/microsoft-optimizes-onenote-for-the-ipad-thinks-would-make-a-sw/">OneNote </a>with an added dash of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/13/firefox-on-windows-8-metro-build-is-in-the-works/">Metro</a>. You'll be able to produce and edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint files locally and online, but the app is still to run the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/app+store+approval+process/">Cupertino's approval gauntlet</a>. The report also claims an Android version <strike>is</strike> <em>isn't</em> in the works <strike>and</strike> <em>but</em> that a Metro-styled refresh of OneNote is due in "the coming weeks." That said, we're not sure what sort of place doesn't take the plastic off its carpets, leaves big "product of Spain" crates lying around with leopard-print plushies and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/startrek">USS Enterprise</a> logos hanging on the wall -- but perhaps we've underestimated <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/microsoft/">Redmond's </a>capacity for a good party.<br /> <br /> <strong>Update: </strong>We incorrectly reported that an Android version was forthcoming, we've edited to correct our mistake -- please accept our sincere apologies.</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/02/21/office-ios/">Microsoft Office for iOS gets blurrycam treatment in weird party-room</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 21 Feb 2012 11:51:00 EST. Is this Apple's next <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ipodnano">iPod nano</a>? It is if you believe the folks from Taiwan's<em> Apple.pro</em> website who, as you may recall, also recently got their hands on a purported <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/04/next-gen-ipod-nano-chassis-leaked-with-camera/">next-gen iPod nano chassis</a> that seems to match the complete device pictured above. As you can see, the big change here is the addition of a built-in camera that's said to be 1.3 megapixels, which appears to have also shoved the clip out of the way, although there does seem to be a faint outline where one could be. Of course, the key word here is <em>purported</em> -- to its credit, some of the site's leaks have indeed panned out in the past, but we'd still recommend taking this one with a grain of salt for the time being.</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/10/purported-seventh-gen-ipod-nano-spotted-complete-with-1-3-megap/">Purported seventh-gen iPod nano spotted, complete with 1.3 megapixel camera</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 10 May 2011 14:44:00 EST. Ah, would you look at that. Earlier this year there were <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/12/ios-4-3-code-reveals-new-iphone-and-ipad-models-rumor-mill-sugg/">rumors</a> about Apple ditching the physical home button on upcoming iOS devices, and now we have what appears to be a new iPod touch prototype matching such description, courtesy of <em>CrunchGear</em> via Mr. Blurrycam. According to its About screen, this "DVT-1" (a late <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/dvt">milestone</a>) device packs 128GB of memory -- twice as much as the largest available capacity option right now (remember that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/09/64gb-iphone-4-prototype-spotted-in-china-video/">64GB iPhone 4</a> prototype in Hong Kong?) -- as well as a model number "MC550LL" which isn't far off from those of the fourth-gen iPod touches ("MC54xLL"), though this similarity doesn't help prove its authenticity nor indicate whether it'll make it to the market. Still, if Apple does go ahead with this grubby device or at least its capacitive home button, we might see new touch or gesture controls for the bezel area below the screen &agrave; la <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/webos">webOS</a>, as suggested by an earlier <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/03/apple-gets-a-patent-on-smart-screen-bezels/">patent</a>. But hey, let's not take this too seriously for now -- all this could turn out to be just a much belated <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/01/april-fools-day-roundup-google-overload-edition/">April Fools'</a> prank, right?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/05/ipod-touch-prototype-with-capacitive-home-button-leaked/">iPod touch prototype with capacitive home button leaked?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 05 Apr 2011 10:47:00 EST. We're but a few days away from Apple's music-related "<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/25/apple-to-hold-special-event-september-1st-well-be-there-li/">special event</a>," and naturally the bloody rumors are being tossed into the water, frothing up into quite a feeding frenzy. Last week came talk of new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/26/supposed-next-gen-ipod-touch-nano-shuffle-cases-surface-onlin/">iPod touch and nano models</a>, and now we have even more cases and accessories that seem to back up the belief that there's a fourth-generation touch and a sixth-generation nano coming. The nano is rumored to have a 3 x 3cm touchscreen (<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/09/what-is-this-tiny-apple-touchscreen-that-just-leaked-in-taiwan/">presumably this one</a>) and room on the bottom for a proper dock connector, ensuring compatibility with the millions of iPod cradles and whatnot out there. The new cases we're seeing certainly back up that idea, with a dock-sized cut-out along with room for what's said to be a headphone jack, volume controls, a hold button, and a clip 'round the back. At the moment we know rather less about the new touch, but we can hazard a guess as to what it'll <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/iphone4">look like</a>.<br />

Not sure how exactly this slipped our neural net, perhaps it was added in a later update, but <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/24/apple-reportedly-in-talks-with-networks-for-99-cent-tv-show-rent/">yesterday's <em>Bloomberg</em> revelation</a> about a potential Apple TV show rental service now also includes the following tip: Steve Jobs et al plan on hosting an event in San Francisco on September 7. This just so happens to be on a Tuesday and meshes perfectly with Apple's annual Mac plus iPod touch promotion (which ends on the same day). Of course, we could've told you Apple would be holding an early September iPod refresh event this time last year -- the real question is <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/11/upcoming-apple-tv-loses-1080p-playback-gains-apps/">what else</a> might be revealed during the keynote?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/25/apple-holding-a-media-event-september-7-says-bloomberg/">Apple holding a media event September 7, says Bloomberg</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 25 Aug 2010 02:34:00 EST. The sun will rise, pigeons will annoy, and <em>Daring Fireball's </em>John Gruber will get inside scoops on Apple product releases. So it goes. This time he's touching on, erm, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/iPodtouch/">iPod touch</a>, making an offhand (though firmly declarative) comment on a post about the Dell Streak: "if you wait a few weeks to buy the Touch, you'll get one with a Retina Display and dual cameras." The man's not one to fool around with such matters, so we tend to believe him here. It also helps that nothing he's saying would be <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/05/apple-ipod-touch-screen-with-front-facing-camera-slot-spied/">really surprising</a> -- a new iPod in September? With features trickled down from the most recent iPhone? Then again, that camera <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/24/one-more-thing-two-ipod-touch-prototypes-with-camera-briefly/">has</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/13/earlier-ipod-touch-with-camera-leak-vindicated-in-light-of-3rd-g/">proved</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/09/steve-jobs-says-ipod-touch-didnt-get-a-camera-because-its-a-g/">elusive</a> before.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/10/ipod-touch-coming-in-a-few-weeks-with-dual-cameras-and-retina/">iPod touch coming in a 'few weeks' with dual cameras and Retina Display, suggests John Gruber</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 10 Aug 2010 20:13:00 EST. Fool us <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/09/steve-jobs-says-ipod-touch-didnt-get-a-camera-because-its-a-g/">once</a>, shame on us. Fool us <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ipodtouch,camera">twice</a>? Fuhgetaboutit. Apple has a thing for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/09/live-from-apples-its-only-rock-and-roll-event/">introducing</a> new iPods <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/09/live-from-apples-lets-rock-event-in-san-francisco/">each fall</a>, and given that the existing touch is being given away gratis with a new student computer (not to mention how long in the tooth it is), we're guessing the tradition will continue in 2010. We'd heard earlier on in the year that Apple may <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/15/ipod-touch-facetime-calling-to-be-based-on-email-addresses/">toss FaceTime over to the iPod line</a> whenever it finally gained a front-facing camera, and now the evidence is nearly too strong to ignore. In the latest iOS 4.1 beta (numero <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/03/ios-4-1-beta-3-breaks-loose/">three</a>, if you're keeping count), there's an option to connect to a contact via FaceTime by ringing their digits <i>or</i> by pinging their email address. We're guessing that the latter is there mostly for iPod touch users (the ones without <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/05/apple-peel-520-gets-reviewed-turns-your-ipod-touch-into-an-ipho/">Apple Peel 520s</a>, anyway), and it's the most glaring sign yet that the next generation touch will <i>flippin' finally</i> boast a camera (or just a way around that SMS-based activation?). Still, we wouldn't get our hopes up too high -- falling ain't no fun, you know?<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/07/email-based-facetime-support-surfaces-in-ios-4-1-beta-3/">Email-based FaceTime support surfaces in iOS 4.1 beta 3</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 07 Aug 2010 14:31:00 EST. You may or may not be aware, but <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Apple/">Apple</a> has a penchant for announcing <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/09/live-from-apples-its-only-rock-and-roll-event/">new iPods</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/09/live-from-apples-lets-rock-event-in-san-francisco/">in early September</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/05/steve-jobs-live-apples-the-beat-goes-on-special-event/">as it has for years</a>. With just over four weeks to go before the most likely (but nigh confirmed) press event week is upon us, expect the rumor mill to ratchet up appropriately. Here's one care of <em>Mac Rumors</em>; the gang's been sent some pictures from parts supplier <em>iPhonerevivers</em> that allegedly show a new iPod touch LCD screen And sure enough, in place of an earpiece is a slot perfectly suited for that oft-rumored (and possibly <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/15/ipod-touch-facetime-calling-to-be-based-on-email-addresses/">email-based</a>) front-facing camera. It's not the first time we've seen this piece -- the resemblance to<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/08/next-gen-ipod-touch-rumors-heat-up-front-facing-camera-septemb/"> early July's leak</a> doesn't escape us -- but these photos are decidedly fresh and from a different source. Mounting evidence... or are we all just being had? Wouldn't surprise us if we found out for sure before ides of September.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/05/apple-ipod-touch-screen-with-front-facing-camera-slot-spied/">Apple iPod touch LCD screen with front-facing camera slot spied?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 05 Aug 2010 17:08:00 EST. We've been assuming that the next iPod touch will get in on Apple's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/facetime">FaceTime</a> video-calling action, but the open question has been how calls will actually be initiated without phone numbers, and BGR's saying it has the scoop: it's going to be based on email addresses. Registering an email address with the touch and FaceTime will let people videocall you using that address, but apparently calling an iPhone user will still involve knowing their phone number, which is a little odd -- but BGR believes the email-based system will extended to the phone eventually as well. It all sounds plausible enough, but we'll wait and see -- <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/09/steve-jobs-says-ipod-touch-didnt-get-a-camera-because-its-a-g/">we've been burned</a> waiting for Apple to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ipodtouch,camera">add a camera</a> to the touch before, after all.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/15/ipod-touch-facetime-calling-to-be-based-on-email-addresses/">iPod touch FaceTime calling to be based on email addresses?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 15 Jul 2010 11:17:00 EST. <div style="text-align: left;">It's a bit early to confirm anything just yet, but it's starting to look like Apple might be working on a new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ipodtouch">iPod touch</a>. The latest of evidence backing up that shocking fact are two separate rumors that cover some familiarly territory, but with a bit more weight than before. The more convincing of those are some purportedly authentic iPod touch parts that have turned up on a number of Chinese websites, which clearly show a hole on the front of the device that's presumably for a front-facing camera. That's backed up by some fresh comments from an exec at UK retailer John Lewis, who said that a major iPod touch refresh is coming in September, and that it will match many of the iPhone 4's features, including a 5-megapixel camera with HD video recording, a gyroscope and, yes, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/facetime">FaceTime</a> support.</div>

Well, well -- what have we here? A little digging into the mainframe that lies beneath Apple's freshly launched <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/03/apple-ipad-review/">iPad</a> has uncovered a few telltale signs of next-generation hardware, and while this is obviously in no way confirmation that new wares are on the way from Cupertino, this <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/02/next-iphone-codename-new-ipod-touch-revealed-in-latest-sdk-and/">kind of stuff</a> has led to similar reveals in the past. If we're seeing this right, we're looking at not one, but <i>two</i> new mentions of future iPhones (iPhone 3,2 and iPhone 3,3), alongside a new iPod touch (iPod 4,1) and... a future iPad (<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/19/iphone-os-3-0-firmware-unearths-new-iphones-and-new-ipod-touches/">iProd</a> 2,1). 'Course, none of this gives us any indication of the all-important whos or whens, but at least this confirms that mythical creatures still exist in the hearts of those who believe.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/03/ipad-os-digging-reveals-hints-of-future-iphone-ipod-touch-ipad/">iPad OS digging reveals hints of future iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and Nessie</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 03 Apr 2010 14:36:00 EST. Semi for a song way back when, but now that we're just days, hours and seconds away from Apple's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/18/its-on-apple-holding-january-27th-event-to-show-off-its-lates/">expected</a> tablet reveal, a new wave of processor-related conjecture is hitting the fan. Richard Doherty, director of technology consulting firm Envisioneering Group, has come forward with some exceedingly detailed rumors on said tablet, a touchscreen MacBook and an OS X-based unicorn that lives in the cloud. As the story goes, Apple's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/04/23/apple-buys-chip-p-a-semi-chip-designer-intel-says-wha/">pickup</a> of P.A. Semi was primarily an effort to acquire a huge pool of engineering talent to use for its own <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/15/apple-tablet-rumors-strike-back-9-6-inch-with-hsdpa-coming-feb/">internal designs</a>, and now Doherty is saying that "before the year is out, Apple will have the most powerful, lowest-cost SoC in the industry." According to him, there's nothing from "ARM licensees or Intel that could challenge the power-per-watt, the power-per-buck, the power-per-cubic-millimeter of size," and he anticipates that <i>four</i> new products are in the pipeline from Cupertino. Need details? How's about a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/21/27-inch-imac-gets-a-firmware-update-to-assuage-your-display-issu/">touchscreen iMac</a>, an "iPod touch on steroids" with a 5-inch display, and "two different versions of media pads in the 7- to 9-inch (screen size) area." Alright Dick, you just put your reputation on the line -- here's hoping you've got your story straight.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update</strong>: Looks like UBS Investment Research has been hearing <a href="http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/10/01/20/apple_tablet_rumors_time_inc_in_the_dark_pa_semi_chip_secret_negotiations.html">something similar</a>. We know what you're thinking, how dare that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/09/apple-slaps-video-camera-into-new-ipod-nano/">new iPod nano</a> have features your premium <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/iPhone/">iPhone</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/iPodtouch/">iPod touch</a> handhelds don't? Well, if this <em>9 to 5 Mac</em> rumor has any merit, Apple is right there with you and has a solution in the works. According to said whispers, a Radio app is in the works to capitalize on the recent models' latent FM tuner. It'll either be standalone or integrated into the iPod app, and either way it'll be able to work in the background while you browse other, not so fortunate apps. The apparent cause for delay is work on a feature that'll identify the songs and link you to the appropriate iTunes page for purchase. As always, this is just a rumor, so do yourself a favor and try not to dwell on it too much, k?<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cellphones/" rel="tag">Cellphones</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/13/iphone-and-ipod-touch-radio-app-with-itunes-store-integration-on/">iPhone and iPod touch radio app with iTunes store integration on the horizon?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 13 Oct 2009 20:54:00 EST. Okay, we're in the final countdown to Apple's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/09/live-from-apples-its-only-rock-and-roll-event/">Only Rock and Roll event</a>, and some interesting bits of info have hit the wires while we're waiting. First, <em>AppleInsider</em> claims a "historically reliable source" has leaked the entire new lineup of iPods, complete with model numbers, and it's somewhat surprising if true: not only do capacities remain the same apart from a 160GB iPod classic, the iPod touch is absent from the list -- leading some to believe its upgrade has been delayed due to rumored technical issues with the camera module. AI also says the nano is getting "significant changes" to Nike+, but doesn't go into further detail.<br /> <br /> There's also been an interesting press release this morning from Harmon Kardon, which is touting that its new Bridge III iPod / iPhone dock and AVR 2600 and 3600 receivers can "play back HD video from iPod or iPhone products." Seeing as there's no (official) way to even get HD video onto an iPod or iPhone right now, that seems to indicate there's a change a-comin' -- and seeing as we've already gotten the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/20/iphone-3gs-totally-capable-of-1080p-video-playback/">iPhone 3GS to play back 1080p video</a>, the addition of HD video support to at least some of the i-line seems like a no-brainer. We'll see what's true and what's just wishful thinking soon enough -- the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/09/live-from-apples-its-only-rock-and-roll-event/">liveblog starts in just a little bit</a>!<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> And just in case you couldn't get enough <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/04/hama-cases-foreshadow-5g-ipod-nano-3g-ipod-touch-at-ifa-hands/">sketchy cases</a>, Cygnett has some <a href="http://www.cygnett.com/products/cases/cases.htm">listed on its site</a> that seem to show a new nano screen size, as well as a new touch with a camera. Things are definitely heating up, stay tuned.<br /> <br /> <a href="http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/09/09/09/sources_reveal_apples_new_ipod_lineup_with_part_numbers.html">Read</a> - AppleInsider leaked list of new iPod models<br /> <a href="http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/news/comments/harman-kardon-pr-points-to-iphone-ipod-hd-output/">Read</a> - Harmon Kardon says new dock can play back HD video from iPhone<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cellphones/" rel="tag">Cellphones</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/09/last-minute-apple-rumor-roundup-iphone-hd-video-out-no-new-ipo/">Last minute Apple rumor roundup: iPhone HD video out, no new iPod touch? </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 09 Sep 2009 11:23:00 EST. We know you don't really need any more evidence that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Apple/">Apple</a> is gearing up to unveil at least two new iPod revisions at its forthcoming <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/31/apple-holding-rock-and-roll-themed-event-september-9th">'rock and roll' event</a>, but are you seriously going to hit the ignore button on these? If you'll recall, last year's visit to Hama's IFA booth gave us <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/01/hands-on-with-hamas-ipod-nano-4g-case-at-ifa/">early access to cases</a> of Apple's then-upcoming round of iPod nanos, and this year the company seems to be disclosing all of Cupertino's secrets once more. On hand were cases for Apple's fifth-generation iPod nano and the third-generation iPod touch, both of which seem to make room for a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/06/evidence-mounts-for-ipods-with-cameras/">built-in camera</a>. Of course, these lovely peripherals could be nothing more than a complete waste of company resources, but we'd encourage you to browse the gallery below before jumping to that conclusion.<br />

Sure, it's just a rumor backing up another rumor, but it's more than Apple has to say on the topic so far. Meanwhile, <em>AppleInsider</em> also is backing up word that there won't be a tablet at the event, that an iTunes "social networking" feature of some sort is in the cards, and that the iPods are <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/14/hey-maybe-that-ipod-touch-with-a-camera-is-real-after-all/">getting cameras</a>. Not a lot of controversy to be found here, but perhaps a modicum of assurance for folks desperately trying to pin down their iPod events schedule for the next couple of weeks.<br /><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/26/september-9-ipod-event-gets-some-corroboration-from-appleinsider/">September 9 iPod event gets some corroboration from AppleInsider, still no word from Apple</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 26 Aug 2009 16:08:00 EST. We've already heard whispers that Apple has an iPod event in the works <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/13/apple-might-be-planning-keynote-for-september-7th-might-have-ne/">for the week of September 7th</a> -- as they do pretty much every year -- and now alleged company sources are narrowing that date down, telling <em>Digital Daily</em> to mark its calendar for Wednesday, September 9th. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/14/hey-maybe-that-ipod-touch-with-a-camera-is-real-after-all/">Upgraded iPods</a> are the apparent main course, along with some <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/14/next-gen-ipod-touch-photos-supposedly-leak-out-cocktail-part-of/">Cocktail discussion</a>, but as for tablets... well, the sources are adamant it won't get brought up at all. We're still awaiting official word to come shooting out of Cupertino headquarters, but in the meantime, plan on keeping that Wednesday afternoon as free as possible.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/laptops/" rel="tag">Laptops</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/17/apples-ipod-event-set-for-september-9th-with-nary-a-tablet-in-s/">Apple's iPod event set for September 9th with nary a tablet in sight?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 17 Aug 2009 19:39:00 EST. No surprise that the <a href="http://engadget.com/tag/zunehd">Zune HD</a> announcement has resulted in a flurry of iPod rumors, and there's a couple good ones going around today. Obviously the big news is a set of photos purporting to show a next-gen touch with a camera -- the sourcing and the backdrop in some of the pics make it feel like it's a publicity stunt, but the shots of the motherboard next to a current-gen touch's board seem convincing -- especially because of Apple's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/05/ipod-nano-4g-leaked-in-actual-factual-really-real-spy-photo/">recent propensity to leak this sort of thing</a>. The other piece of news? CNET says that whatever <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/13/apple-might-be-planning-keynote-for-september-7th-might-have-ne/">Apple does next month</a>, the new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/27/apple-record-labels-reportedly-working-to-spur-album-sales-with/">Cocktail "next-generation album cover"</a> will be a part of it, at least according to "multiple music industry sources." That might link into the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/11/major-labels-show-eagerness-to-fail-with-new-cmx-digital-audio-f/">major labels' CMX initiative</a>, it might have something to do with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/08/blu-ray-support-coming-with-itunes-9/">iTunes 9</a>, it might be a fun little Tom Cruise movie, or it might be nothing at all -- but it sure seems like we're in for a hell of a September.<br />
<br />
<strong>Update:</strong> <strike>As commenter Joseph pointed out, these look pretty fake when you zoom in Photoshop -- there's a distinct square of pixels around the lens. Nice publicity stunt, guys -- we'll totally start listening to your show now.<br />
</strike><br />
<strong>Update 2</strong>: After seeing some high res versions of these pics, we think we can safely rule out the JPG artifacting as the tell-tale sign that these are fake. You know what we <em>can't</em> rule out? The really bad looking Photoshop work around the lens. Much clearer pic after the break. [Thanks for the pic, Manny]<br />

<div align="left">We're hearing "multiple sources" are now reporting that Apple is most likely planning a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/apple%2C+keynote">keynote event</a> -- possibly for the week of September 7th. There's also the requisite murmuring that one <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/SteveJobs/">Steve Jobs</a> may make an appearance -- though of course, there's also nothing more solid than wishes and fairy dust to back that one up. As far as possible product launches go, well, there have been significant whisperings about upcoming iPod / iTunes developments as of late, including the company's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/27/apple-record-labels-reportedly-working-to-spur-album-sales-with/">reported dealings with major record labels</a>. This would fall in line with Apple's habit of releasing iPods every fall, and we've heard plenty about upcoming iPod touches which boast, among other things -- a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/21/next-gen-ipod-touch-rumored-to-get-camera-microphone-fairy-dus/">camera and microphone</a>. <em>Daring Fireball</em> has also reported that these bad boys will come in 16, 32 and 64GB varieties running $199, $299, and $399, respectively. In more salacious gossip, there's the possible <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/apple%2C+tablet">Apple tablet</a> we've been hearing about, but there's no solid word on any products for now. We'll be watching this one closely, we assure you.<br /><br /><a href="http://mediamemo.allthingsd.com/20090813/here-it-comes-but-what-is-it-exactly-apple-plans-keynote-event-for-september/?mod=ATD_rss">Read </a>- Here it Comes. This certainly jibes well with the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/06/evidence-mounts-for-ipods-with-cameras/">tips we've received</a> regarding both this device and a cam-equipped nano -- although we're still skeptical about the rumored OLED iPods. The article goes on to suggest that once you add a mic to the mix, all you need is a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/13/verizon-mifi-2200-review/">MiFi</a> and the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/skype,iphone">Skype</a> application for "the iPhone experience" on Verizon's (or <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/05/13/novatels-mifi-2200-portable-ev-do-router-comes-to-sprint/">Sprint's</a>) network. The iPod with camera is pretty much a given at this point in Apple's evolutionary approach to its audio / video players. In fact, we've already seen iLounge's confident rendering of an <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/28/apple-iphone-3-0-rumor-roundup/">iPod nano with camera</a>. Now we have the first cases with matching camera cut-outs (like that of the above) for the iPod nano in addition to an iPod touch case with similar cutouts passing through our tips box. This morning <em>TechCrunch</em> is claiming that a "massive number of camera modules" for iPods have been ordered per information provided by a source in Asia. Add it all up and we should see the announcement of a new iPod touch and iPod nano with photo / video recording sometime around September per Apple's usual pattern.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.macrumors.com/2009/07/06/cameras-ordered-for-ipod-touch-another-case-design/">MacRumors</a>, thanks to everyone who sent this in]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/digitalcameras/" rel="tag">Digital Cameras</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handhelds/" rel="tag">Handhelds</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/06/evidence-mounts-for-ipods-with-cameras/">Evidence mounts for iPods with cameras</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 06 Jul 2009 07:17:00 EST. Heard any good iPhone 3.0 rumors lately? No? That's because they're all here in this tidy little roundup. The latest (pictured above) is a purported top-facing bezel frame for the "Apple iPhone 3Gen 2009." Besides being black unlike the chrome edge of the iPhone 3G, <span style="font-style: italic;">iLounge</span> and others have noticed a repositioned ear speaker, tucked high against the top-edge that could be making way for a front-facing camera or additional sensor(s). <span style="font-style: italic;">iLounge</span> also created a render (pictured after the break) of a 5th gen iPod nano based on information provided by a source who "has a perfect track record for accuracy." In addition to a slightly larger screen with 1.5:1 aspect, there's now a camera on the back; a redesign that dovetails nicely with rumors about Apple to getting serious with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/01/video-iphone-to-feature-imovie-app/">integrated video</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/03/digitimes-conjures-up-3-2-and-5-megapixel-cameras-for-future-iph/">digital cameras</a>. <span style="font-style: italic;">iLounge</span> also claims that there will be three new models (3G, enhanced 3G, and mainland China version lacking WiFi we suspect) of iPhones with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/12/is-this-a-matte-black-iphone-answer-probably-not/">matte plastic bodies</a> less prone to scratching. Importantly, countries will get the phone appropriate to their telco's capabilities -- <span style="font-style: italic;">iLounge</span> says users won't have to choose between a fast and slow iPhone, they'll get what their carriers can support. Each will ship in a choice of two capacity options with 32GB being the top-end rumored. Oh, and iPhone 3.0 will also get into the Nike+ game without requiring an adapter (like the iPod touch). These rumors ride a wave of reports that inventories of the iPhone 3G are running low and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/14/are-these-the-companies-inside-the-next-iphone/">component makers</a> are now <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/08/new-iphone-parts-begin-shipping-from-suppliers-for-june-launch/">shipping parts</a> for the next generation iPhone. So <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/13/apple-confirms-wwdc-keynote-time-phil-schiller-leading-the-way/">Steve Jobs or not</a>, we're still expecting the hardware to be announced at WWDC with possible <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/19/next-iphone-to-launch-july-17-with-oled-display-and-glowing-appl/">July 17 launch</a>. <br /><br /><a href="http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/news/comments/purported-next-gen-iphone-bezel-shows-speaker-color-changes/">Read</a> -- iPhone 3.0 bezel (via <a href="http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;langpair=de%7Cen&amp;u=http://www.iphone-ticker.de/2009/05/28/die-nachste-generation-ersatzteil-sichtungen-in-hong-kong/">iFun.de</a>) <br /><a href="http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/backstage/comments/ipod-nano-5g-next-gen-iphone-design-changes-revealed/">Read</a> -- iPod nano with camera renders, 3 versions of iPhone 3.0 <br /> <a href="http://www.digitimes.com/news/a20090526PB200.html">Read</a> -- PCB makers begin shipments for new iPhone <br /><a href="http://stuff.tv/News/iPhone-30-to-have-Nike-pre-installed/12418/">Read</a> -- Nike+ <br /><a href="http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/16-GB-iPhone-3G-now-classified-as-EOL-End-of-Life-by-Vodafones-supplier-article-a_5169.html">Read</a> -- 16GB iPhone 3G listed as End of Life <br /><a href="http://www.foroiphone.com/index.php?showtopic=12446">Read</a> -- 32GB iPhone 3G<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/28/apple-iphone-3-0-rumor-roundup/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Apple iPhone 3.0 rumor roundup</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/apple/" rel="tag">Apple</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/os-x/" rel="tag">iPhone OS</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/28/apple-iphone-3-0-rumor-roundup/">Apple iPhone 3.0 rumor roundup</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 28 May 2009 04:45:00 EST. Interestingly, the iPod touch will continue to be offered in 8GB/16GB/32GB choices which sets them up for the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/23/kevin-rose-unearths-redesigned-ipod-nano-digs-for-more/">rumored price cuts</a> we've been expecting ever since Apple kicked out the iPhone 3G for $199.<br /><br />By the way, the Apple store will almost certainly be going down in the next few minutes. Consider us and yourselves, notified.<br /><br /><strong>Update</strong>: Now <em>AppleInsider</em> has <a href="http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/08/09/09/last_minute_ipod_nano_with_sensor_ipod_touch_ipod_classic_ipod_shuffle.html">chimed in</a> with leaks from its "longstanding sources." They cite 5 colors of iPod shuffles and an updated black and <strike>white</strike> silver iPod classic. Elongated iPod nanos are predicted in the same 9 colors with the inclusion of a new accelerometer to switch from portrait to landscape modes.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/09/ipod-nanos-to-double-capacity-ipod-touch-wont-budge/">iPod nanos set to double capacity, iPod touch likely unchanged in preparation for price cuts? Yep, there's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/01/hands-on-with-hamas-ipod-nano-4g-case-at-ifa/">another</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/26/new-ipod-nano-and-touch-revealed-by-case-manufacturers/">4G iPod Nano</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/24/supposed-4th-gen-ipod-nano-case-designs-slip-out/">case</a>, this time apparently accompanied by official-looking PR -- we think it's probably safe to assume we'll be seeing <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/05/ipod-nano-4g-leaked-in-actual-factual-really-real-spy-photo/">this bad boy</a> make its debut <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/02/apple-event-for-next-tuesday-the-9th/">tomorrow</a>. There you have it, more supposed <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/05/ipod-nano-4g-leaked-in-actual-factual-really-real-spy-photo/">iPod nano 4G</a> love, unboxed and wearing a distinctive <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/09/12/2g-nano-announced/">iPod nano 2G</a> lime-colored coat. Must be cold in the house that fruit built from all these leaks.<br /><br /><strong>Update</strong>: As noted in the comments, that 2G-style coloring is matched with an old-style squeeze-connector iPod cable, making this leak, at least, highly suspect.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/06/supposed-ipod-nano-4g-really-unboxed/">Supposed iPod nano 4G really unboxed</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 06 Sep 2008 06:35:00 EST. So, iLounge has a hot tip on dimensions for the <a href="http://engadget.com/tag/ipod">hotly-rumored</a>, upcoming iPod nano and iPod touch refreshes. The diagrams appear to the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/01/case-manufacturers-getting-early-3g-iphone-size-specs/">type of thing provided to case manufacturers</a> so they launch their player-hugging wares on day one, but could just as easily be faked, so we'll take 'em with a grain of salt. Of note, the new fourth-gen iPod nano has supposedly slimmed down to a mere 6.08mm thick, compared to the 2nd gen's 6.5mm, while the second-gen iPod touch got all curvy on us like big brother 3G, and similarly adds thickness: 8.4mm thick, instead of 8mm on the original. More exciting than the design tweak is the addition of volume control buttons to the side of the iPod touch, though the headphone port has stuck to the base of the device. Hopefully we'll know more soon, the mock-suspense is just killing us.<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> A couple have people have pointed out that <a href="http://www.xskn.com/default.aspx?m=Products&amp;sid=287&amp;cid=2746">XSKN has also made a nano 4G case</a> to these dimensions. First comes <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/21/apples-next-gen-ipods-just-around-the-corner-full-of-rainbows/">smoke</a>, then comes <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/26/new-ipod-nano-and-touch-revealed-by-case-manufacturers/">flames a-blazin'</a>. Shortly after hearing that Apple was gearing up to unveil a new iPod nano (at the very least) on <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/25/apple-introducing-new-ipods-on-september-9th/">September 9th</a>, in flies a curious Best Buy ad that could be evidence of a tweaked iPod touch. According to our tipster, the image in the ad and the image on Best Buy's website are ever-so-slightly different, and while we'd typically pass this off as the result of a fading ink cartridge, we've been expecting new touches for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/29/iphone-2-1-beta-firmware-hints-at-new-ipod-touch/">months now</a>. Just a few days left until we figure out what's really going on here.<br /><br />[Thanks, Samm]<br /><br /><strong>Update</strong>: As a few folks pointed out, it seems the image is a touch on the ancient side. Still, we know new iPod touches are coming in our hearts -- we can just <em>feel it</em>.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/01/new-ipod-touch-casually-leaked-in-best-buy-weekly-ad/">New iPod touch casually leaked in Best Buy weekly ad?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 01 Sep 2008 21:29:00 EST. Man, Apple's lockdown on product leaks just isn't as tight as it used to be -- remember when having new iPod designs leaked by case manufacturers <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/01/uniea-takes-a-gamble-on-ipod-nano-fatty-preemptively-makes-case/">seemed totally unthinkable</a>? Yeah, those times are over -- check out these silicone cases for a fourth-gen iPod nano and second-gen iPod touch that just appeared on Alibaba. We're not totally sold on the touch cases, but the nanos look way more legit, especially since we've seen some others <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/24/supposed-4th-gen-ipod-nano-case-designs-slip-out/">matching this general look</a> before; while nano <a href="http://engadget.com/tag/kirf">KIRFs</a> in this form factor aren't <a href="http://i1.iofferphoto.com/img/item/428/904/51/o_IPOD202.jpg">uncommon</a>, we'd say it's pretty unlikely that anyone's making several different types of silicone cases for them. We're not calling this anywhere near 100 percent yet, but let's just say we're hoping Apple's press photographers can make the new nano look a whole lot better than <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/23/kevin-rose-unearths-redesigned-ipod-nano-digs-for-more/">our pal Mr. Blurrycam</a> by the time <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/25/apple-introducing-new-ipods-on-september-9th/">September 9th rolls around</a>. There's been a lot of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/23/kevin-rose-unearths-redesigned-ipod-nano-digs-for-more/">iPod chatter</a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/21/apples-next-gen-ipods-just-around-the-corner-full-of-rainbows/"> in the air lately</a> and now MacRumors and Ars Technica say that we'll be seeing El Steve boom-boom some new gear on September 9th. No specifics on what's in store, but new nanos are obviously on the table, as is that rumored subscription service and possibly a new iPod touch at a lower price. Anything you guys hoping for?<br /><br /><a href="http://www.macrumors.com/2008/08/25/apple-event-for-september-9th/">Read</a> - MacRumors<br /><a href="http://arstechnica.com/journals/apple.ars/2008/08/25/rumor-apple-event-for-september-9th">Read</a> - Ars Technica<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/25/apple-introducing-new-ipods-on-september-9th/">Apple introducing new iPods on September 9th?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 25 Aug 2008 21:06:00 EST. Sure, magic man and all-around seer Kevin Rose delivered the "news" that a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/23/kevin-rose-unearths-redesigned-ipod-nano-digs-for-more/">refreshed iPod nano</a> is coming in the form that slimmed up, tapered in, longish tube of a device -- but you might be looking for harder evidence. We've just come across two case-related designs supposedly destined for Apple's next PMP, but both raise as many questions as they answer. Chinese accessory-maker Beelan apparently has a silicon sleeve ready to drop ship to a location of your choice via Alibaba, and iDealsChina is showing off renders of the 4th gen nano and another case from "some unknown Canadian company." Unfortunately, neither design can really be verified, and as they've just appeared on the heels of last night's Rose rumor, the timing seems a touch suspect. We're wondering what the Engadget hive-mind thinks -- any meat on these bones?<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> As many commenters have pointed out, that's a mini-USB port on that render. It's essentially inconceivable that Apple would use anything other than its dock connector here, which makes this rumor seem even more dubious than before, if you can believe such a thing.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.pmptoday.com/2008/08/24/4th-gen-ipod-nano-silicone-skin-case/">PMPToday</a>; Thanks Joel]<br /><br /><a href="http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/208758243/for_iPod_nano_4G_Silicon_Skin.html">Read</a> - for iPod nano 4G Silicon Skin Case<br /><a href="http://www.idealschina.com/Insider/NewsDetail.aspx?ArticleID=28&amp;PageIndex=1">Read</a> - New! iPod Nano 4TH Gen Touch Screen<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/24/supposed-4th-gen-ipod-nano-case-designs-slip-out/">Supposed 4th gen iPod nano case designs slip out</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 24 Aug 2008 18:02:00 EST. Kevin Rose of Digg origins claims to have the scoop on the latest iPod nano. Mind you, this is the same Kevin Rose who <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/12/03/kevin-rose-confirms-iphone/">notoriously claimed</a> that a generation one iPhone would launch in both CDMA and GSM versions with a pair of batteries and slide-out keyboard. Uh hem. This time however, he backs up his claims with this picture of a skinnier, longer, and curvier nano -- credible because it just happens to be consistent with other rumors we've seen floating around and certainly makes sense for an Apple <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/macbook%20air">obsessed</a> with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/04/pictures-of-apples-new-macbook-leaked-on-taiwanese-site/">tapering</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/10/iphone-3g-first-look-what-do-you-want-to-know/">edges</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/01/apple-itunes-to-compete-day-and-date-with-dvd-releases-wal/">video playback</a>. Kev also claims that the iPod lineup will undergo "fairly large" price cuts to avoid the market cannibalization assumed by the lower $199 iPhone 3G purchase price. The iPod touch, which currently starts at $299 for 8GB, will see some slight cosmetic changes as well as a new 2.1 firmware update (which will obviously make its way to the iPhone). Tagging along with the iPod refresh is a new iTunes 8.0 which, according to Rose's sources, deserves the full point upgrade based on all the new features and functionality it brings. All this, "in the next 2-3 weeks." <br /><br />He then adds that OS X 10.5.6 is rumored to include Blu-ray support which could point to future Blu-ray options in Apple's lineup of Macs -- oh, and ponies, lots of ponies. Listen to the man say it in his own words in the video after the break.<br /><br />[Thanks, Matt and Alexis F.]<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/23/kevin-rose-unearths-redesigned-ipod-nano-digs-for-more/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Kevin Rose unearths redesigned iPod nano, digs for more?</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/23/kevin-rose-unearths-redesigned-ipod-nano-digs-for-more/">Kevin Rose unearths redesigned iPod nano, digs for more?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 23 Aug 2008 04:05:00 EST. Sure, you could dismiss this round of iPod rumors -- so carefully culled by the fine folks at 9 to 5 Mac and AppleInsider -- as baseless speculation, but we'll have none of your dowdy skepticism. We're talking about <em>rainbows</em> here, people. AppleInsider claims that retailers are seeing current iPod models being switched to "discontinued" in inventory systems, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster says to expect iPod refreshes across the board, including a slightly redesigned $200 iPod touch, and meanwhile 9 to 5 Mac has it from an unnamed source that the new iPod nanos will have enhanced features, double the storage and <em>rainbow color schemes</em>. It's almost like somebody in Cupertino is reading our mind! We'll know for sure when new iPods arrive mid-September filled to the brim with "Run's House" episodes and bedecked in rainbow-hued gummy bears. It's going to rock.<br /><br />[Thanks, Kiwi616]<br /><a href="http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/08/08/20/retail_sources_say_its_closing_time_for_current_ipod_line.html"><br />Read</a> - AppleInsider<br /><a href="http://9to5mac.com/rainbow-iPod-nano">Read</a> - 9 to 5 Mac<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/21/apples-next-gen-ipods-just-around-the-corner-full-of-rainbows/">Apple's next-gen iPods just around the corner, full of rainbows?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 21 Aug 2008 12:14:00 EST. Apple's experimented with allowing iTunes to stream over the internet as well as your LAN in the past and quickly removed the feature (probably due to RIAA pressure), so we're not placing too much stock in this, but AppleInsider's unearthed a patent that seems to describe a way to stream music over the 'net to your iPhone / iPod touch. The goal is to prevent you from having to selectively sync content to your device -- instead, you'd sync just the metadata and stream whatever you wanted direct from your machine as though it was all stored locally. There are some obvious problems here -- it wouldn't work if you didn't have service (or over EDGE, really), most home upstream connections aren't that fast, etc., etc., -- but it's certainly interesting, and a welcome addition to local storage if it ever makes the scene. In the meantime, how about working in some of those <a href="http://thesmallwave.com/2008/07/27/dear-apple-please-make-the-iphones-native-interface-like-the-remote-app/">new UI elements</a> from the Remote app into the iPod app?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.macrumors.com/2008/08/07/remote-itunes-streaming-to-iphone-or-ipod-touch/">Macrumors</a>, thanks Mark]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handsets/" rel="tag">Handsets</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/multimedia/" rel="tag">Multimedia</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/peripherals/" rel="tag">Peripherals</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/apple/" rel="tag">Apple</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/07/apple-working-on-streaming-your-itunes-library-to-your-iphone/">Apple working on streaming your iTunes library to your iPhone?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 07 Aug 2008 18:36:00 EST. In the meantime, how about working in some of those <a href="http://thesmallwave.com/2008/07/27/dear-apple-please-make-the-iphones-native-interface-like-the-remote-app/">new UI elements</a> from the Remote app into the iPod app?<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.macrumors.com/2008/08/07/remote-itunes-streaming-to-iphone-or-ipod-touch/">Macrumors</a>, thanks Mark]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/cellphones/" rel="tag">Cellphones</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/07/apple-working-on-streaming-your-itunes-library-to-your-iphone/">Apple working on streaming your iTunes library to your iPhone?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 07 Aug 2008 18:36:00 EST. Make of it what you will, but Germany's own <em>Mac Life</em> has apparently grabbed hold of a few more details concerning that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/02/21/nikes-sportband-passes-fcc-bypasses-apple/">SportBand</a> we saw sashay into the FCC's database late last month. Reportedly, the unit isn't meant to replace the<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2006/07/17/nike-ipod-sport-kit-review-roundup/"> Nike+iPod</a> system; rather, it's an alternative for runners who'd prefer not to have earbuds in and a DAP on their person when logging their treks. As expected, time, speed, distance and calories will all be tracked, and each run can be captured and stored on the outfit's website after you thumb a ride back home. We're told to expect said device in April for &euro;59.95 ($93), but only time will tell if that's an accurate assertion (and true worldwide).<br /><br />[Thanks, Susanne]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/wearables/" rel="tag">Wearables</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/03/15/nikes-sportband-ready-for-april-launch/">Nike's SportBand ready for April launch?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 15 Mar 2008 10:42:00 EST.
