  • EE's 'Jay' own-brand tablet is its cheapest to date

It's been almost a year since EE added a new tablet to its own-brand, avian-themed range -- or one aimed squarely at grown-ups, at least -- so you know what that means. With only refurbished Harrier Tabs left in stock, it's time for a new slate to become EE's value offering. At £120 on pay-as-you-go, the "Jay" is the cheapest homegrown tablet EE's ever launched; and it shows, at least when compared with the more powerful, larger-screened Harrier Tab.

  • WoW Moviewatch: If Women Ruled WoW 2

Work Warning: Cursing, mature themes, and more. Be forewarned. There's sexism and racism, intended in a critical way. The first If Women Ruled WoW was mostly played for laughs. And while there are plenty of jokes in this sequel, the overall tone is much different. It feels a little more thoughtful to me. In the end, I couldn't quite decide where I landed on it, which I suppose is part of the point. It certainly has some star power, featuring Gigi, Lil Biz, Quixotica, Ray, and Nyhm. Lots of gender issues line the streets of Azeroth's community. Sometimes we do a good job of things, avoiding a lot of the misogyny and hatred that stocks up other gaming cultures. Other times, we don't do such a bang-up job. This video flips male/female and then trots out virtually every crass stereotype and lame trope we see about women in gaming. I don't know if the video serves as a successful critique or wince-worthy parody. Normally, with the cursing, I wouldn't feature the video (we're a family blog, you see), but I truly feel the video's heart was in the right place. What do you think? Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an email at moviewatch@wowinsider.com.

Many of our Aion One Shots have featured fantastic, highly detailed armor, or the obligatory enormous wings that the game seems to be so well-known for. However, as a nice treat we got this scenic image in our mailbox recently from Jay (AKA SylvariVentari), who decided to focus on something we don't always get to see as the focal point of pictures -- the buildings in the game. While we don't know precisely where this is, we'd bet some of our Aion readers could lend us a hand there, as Jay's note was short and sweet: "Hey, just a screenshot I took whilst playing Aion. The scenery and architecture in this game are just great, so thought I'd send this in. Hopefully you like it!" If you've read this far, it means you like One Shots, so why not do us a favor and send in some screenshots from your MMO gaming? We need lots more screenshot love, and you're the best ones to help us out. Just grab a screenshot from your favorite game (or hey, least favorite, if you're crazy enough to play it) and send it to us here at oneshots AT massively DOT com along with your name and a quick description. We'll showcase it and give you the credit for sending it along. %Gallery-85937%

Folks that paid attention to BlizzCon 2008 last year will remember the comedian Jay Mohr acting as host and funnyman. And while Blizzard has yet to announce it, WoW.com has been able to independently confirm that Jay Mohr will be back for BlizzCon 2009 this year, August 21st and 22nd at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California. This year's BlizzCon promises to be big. The WoW.com staff is pretty much all in agreement that we'll have to hear something about the next expansion, and the recent trademark registration of Cataclysm really lends a lot of credence to that.Of course perhaps the best part of BlizzCon is the costumes. After all, who doesn't want to see a pirate girl, two demons girls giving a kiss to a surprised kid, a turtle mount?[Thanks to Sean Bryant for the original tip!]%Gallery-34205%BlizzCon 2009 is coming up on August 21st and 22nd! We've got all the latest news and information. At BlizzCon you can play the latest games, meet your guildmates, and ask the developers your questions. Plus, there's some great looking costumes.

  • The Silent Bob approach to group management

The world of groups: pugs, raids, arenas, guilds, confederations, servers; all of it means one thing: you have to know how to get along with each other. A big part of getting along with one another in a successful group is knowing how and when to get information across. This communication is often times hard to do, even for the most seasoned communicator. How do you tell someone that their tanking is so awful you'd rather let the hunter's pet be the main tank? What do you say to a healer to get them to understand that healing means more than casting their biggest heal all the time? And what do you do with the DPS who always decides to pull for the group?Recently I've taken up a new way to deal with all these things. I call it the Silent Bob approach to group management. The approach is outlined by three simple steps.

  • Silent Bob wants to be in a video game

Speaking to Yahoo! Games, filmmaker Kevin "Silent Bob" Smith (Clerks, Dogma) talked about his interest in making a game based on his characters Jay and Silent Bob. Admitting that "games is one field that i like to be entertained, rather than try to be entertaining," Smith asserted that he'd be willing to write a back story for a game if someone else could handle everything else: "levels and challenges and bosses and things like that, I'm not so good at coming up with that kind of stuff," he said. Smith has two things going against him, though: his films center around dialogue and humor. And, as you may know, good humor and dialogue can spell certain disaster for any video game (see: Psychonauts). If Smith wants any hope of success in this industry, he had better base the game off of Jay and Silent Bob's alter-egos, Bluntman and Chronic. Drugs, babes, bad guys, guns, and excessive violence are the only sure-fire way to make a profit in gaming. Or film, for that matter. Snoochie Boochies![Via 1UP]
