The Spike Video Game Awards, this year called VGX probably because it's so extreme, will be co-hosted by Joel McHale, the lovably sarcastic guy from Community and The Soup. He's not entirely new to the gaming circuit, having hosted Ubisoft's E3 press conference in 2009 and starred in Nintendo's pointedly viral 3DS ad last year. McHale joins Geoff Keighley on stage for a barrage of new game trailers and announcements, starting at 6PM ET on Spike TV and across a number of streaming services, including Steam. We'll be liveblogging the entire show and posting the news as it breaks, so think of us as another group of co-hosts. Less famous, silent, but still really cool co-hosts.

We try our best to not to get duped by marketing disguised as "viral" internet video, but the ad wizards at Nintendo teamed up with Joel McHale and these models and the Mario Brothers and ... well ... we're weak. Weak!

Considering Ubisoft hasn't formally announced another entry in the Driver series, we found it a tad on the odd side when we received the publisher's official E3 press release (that's a new one for us too) declaring the game to be playable at this year's LA convention. "Video games exhibited at the Ubisoft booth will include the highly anticipated Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Shaun White Skateboarding, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Future Soldier, the next iteration of the blockbuster franchise Driver, and many other titles that are yet to be announced," the release reads. Furthermore, the company will be making its Joel McHale-hosted press conference, in addition to "other exclusive videos and interviews throughout E3," available on its official website. Presumably, Ubi's E3 multimedia will be available soon after the company's June 14 press conference. We'll have hands-ons with Ubi's titles throughout that week, so make sure to, ya know, keep it locked.

We love Joel McHale, host of E!'s The Soup. Like, love. If there were such a thing as McHale's Navy, we would join it, even if he was in no way involved with the organization. That's the kind of devotion we're talking about here. The biggest problem with Joel McHale is how rarely video game bloggers get to write about him.You can imagine the kind of joy it brings us then to relate Ubisoft's announcement that McHale will be hosting the company's E3 press conference. You can even watch the whole thing yourself the next morning at Ubisoft's site! We think the release also mentioned some games too, but who cares? Joel McHale!
