Clearly, it'd been way too long since we last used our Rob Halford tag here at Joystiq, so it was convenient when Harmonix announced today Judas Priest's "British Steel 30th Anniversary" album as next week's Rock Band DLC. This collection is taken from the 2009 30th anniversary tour when the band played the entirety of its nine-song 1980 thrasher, British Steel, for the first time live. "Breakin' the Law" live? Sold. Hit the break for all the details.

Rock Band Weekly and Rock Band Wiikly combine forces this week to bring you one superlist of all of next week's DLC. There's a lot of content set to assault Harmonix's game, so we hope you like the bands listed in the headline above -- they make up the majority of what will be available for download. If you dig the band Lush, then we hope you really like "Sweetness & Light."

Rock Band Weekly drops three packs of three on thee next week. The "treat" in there -- depending on how snobby the music aficionados are feeling today -- is the three tracks from The Dead Winter. A "new" band, whose debut album Horehound drops next week, is comprised of several known artists from alternative rock bands, they just come from known bands. How about that?! Check it out.Judas Priest Pack (440 / $5.50) "Dissident Aggressor" (Live) (160 / $2) "Eat Me Alive" (Live) (160 / $2) "Prophecy" (Live) (160 / $2) Big Dipper Pack (440 / $5.50) "All Going Out Together" (160 / $2) "She's Fetching" (160 / $2) "Younger Bums" (160 / $2) The Dead Weather Pack 01 (440 / $5.50) "Hang You From the Heavens" (160 / $2) "No Hassle Night" (160 / $2) "Treat Me Like Your Mother" (160 / $2) All tracks are original masters and are available for download next Tuesday and Thursday on Xbox 360 and PS3, respectively.

  • TUAW at E3: Guitar Rock Tour 2 and DJ Mix Tour

While we really liked Gameloft's Castle of Magic at E3, these two music games in their lineup didn't impress nearly as much. Guitar Rock Tour 2 is a sequel to Guitar Rock Tour, and as you can tell from the picture at right, it's more or less a Guitar Hero knock-off: hit the notes as they pass the line at the bottom, and you'll hear whatever song you choose to play. At this point, gameplay on all of these games is more or less the same, so song selection makes the difference, and that's where Guitar Rock Tour 2 falls short: the game contains only four original tracks, and fifteen covers. While they do lay claim to tracks by Judas Priest, Panic at the Disco, Wolfmother, Placebo and Twisted Sister, Tapulous pretty much has the market covered in terms of getting great music playable on the iPhone, and we didn't see anything during our hands on that would attract us away from Tap Tap Revenge and its various forms.DJ Mix Tour is the other music game they showed us -- this one had a club feel and had you pressing notes on a turntable rather than guitar frets. There were some interesting choices in that game -- we saw some covers of Britney Spears club mixes, as well as Lady Gaga and Darude's famous Sandstorm tune, so if you're a die-hard techno fan, there might be some new tunes in there for you among the sixteen total songs. But again, Tap Tap Revenge is so polished after all their updates, and already has such a great selection of tunes that it's hard to recommend Gameloft's versions. Both will be available for $5.99 in the App Store sometime this month.

  • Metal God Rob Halford trademarks 'Metal God' video game

Rob Halford – lead singer for Judas Priest and the bearer of the immeasurably cooler-than-ours nickname "Metal God" – has filed a trademark application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office under the "class" of "Computer games; video games; and game controllers for computer games." The name he's seeking to trademark? You got it: "Metal God."Maybe it's just Halford watching out for numero uno (hey, if our nickname was "Metal God" we'd trademark everything from video games to hair curlers) or maybe, after getting a taste of that Rock Band DLC money, Halford has more palpable ambitions. What could he bring to the world of videogames, you ask? We've got a couple ideas: Better cover art (see our mashup above) An all Judas Priest and/or Rob Halford-themed soundtrack (who wants all the filler?) And lastly, a rhythm game for the bald metalhead – a tragically underserved niche audience [Via superannuation]

Have you ever gold-starred your favorite song on Rock Band, and briefly thought that you could embarrass the artists who originally recorded the track in a head-to-head showdown? Well, based on what we've seen from major-label bands that have tried their hand at Harmonix's rockstar simulator, that probably wouldn't be terribly difficult -- regardless, Spike TV will be pitting the three highest ranked groups of faux troubadours against three actual bands in a Rock Band 2 countdown special tonight at 11:30 PM EST.The show, titled 30 Minutes to Midnight, will feature Judas Priest, Cheap Trick and Disturbed playing their respective Rock Band 2 tracks against the top three bands of the Xbox Live community: Earth, Wind and Centaur!; Die! in a Fire; and Here Comes a New Challenger. The program will also feature a young man who can apparently pass a song while performing all four parts at once -- and without any of those newfangled robot arms we've been hearing about lately.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]

The Rock Band store gets its first full album this week with Judas Priest's Screaming for Vengeance. The Rock Band forums also mention that The Cars' The Cars and the Pixies' Doolittle are coming in the "near future." The Who's Who's Next is still on the docket, but apparently isn't what's next.Screaming for Vengeance album (1200 MS points / $15) -- All songs are also sold individually (160 MS Points / $2), except "The Hellion" and "Electric Eye," which are bundled at the price of one track. "The Hellion" "Electric Eye" "Riding on the Wind" "Bloodstone" "(Take These) Chains" "Pain and Pleasure" "Screaming for Vengeance" "You've Got Another Thing Comin'" "Fever" "Devil's Child" The videos for this week's Rock Band DLC are after the break ... and sweet mercy, it'd better be appreciated this week. Screaming for Vengeance will be available today on Xbox 360 and Thursday for the PS3.

First promised back in July of '07 and teased again just last month, Rock Band will finally see its first full downloadable album when Judas Priest's "Screaming for Vengeance" becomes available Tuesday, April 22. The set of ten master tracks will be available for $14.99 (that's 1200 Microsoft Points for those who can only make calculations in fake currencies) or individually for $1.99 (160 MS Points) per song. A Rock Band forum moderator also confirms two more albums coming down the pike sometime soon: The Cars' self-titled debut and The Pixies' "Doolittle." Still no word on The Who's "Who's Next," which was originally promised as the first album available for download, or Nirvana's "Nevermind," which was hinted at in last July's GamePro -- or Cyndi Lauper's "Time after Time," which we've been hoping against hope will be coming ever since the game's release. Oh Cyndi ... why did you ever stop recording?
