Fans may not be the only ones who get a say in developing the next Unreal Tournament game. Michiel Van Den Bos and Alexander Bradon, composers for the original Unreal Tournament, expressed interest in returning to the franchise on the Unreal forums, as did Kevin Riepl, composer for Unreal Tournament 2003 and Unreal Tournament 2004. While this doesn't necessarily mean that these composers will return to Unreal Tournament, their interest has caught the attention of the team. Unreal project lead Steven Polge responded to all of the composers, saying he would be "thrilled" to have them contribute to the upcoming game. [Image: Epic Games]

Really, how could it be anything else this week? By the first of December, a major MMO influence on my life will be gone for good. We will talk about it in the past tense with wistful tones, remembering the superheroic escapades and villainous schemes. It will be given a place of honor in many of our memories, and I truly believe that City of Heroes will echo throughout the industry and community for years to come. One of those echoes is the game's score, which will endure, as does every MMO's soundtrack. When I first started playing City of Heroes in 2004, the music made a big impression on me. It painted a picture of the game's locale and atmosphere perhaps better than anything else. Heck, you could play the game with your eyes closed and know which zone you were in by the music cues. That's how integral the score was to the game. So this is my final send-off to City of Heroes: a look at the highlight from its soundtrack from the launch through Freedom. Goodbye, City of Heroes... I'm going to really miss you. I won't miss the whine from the force field bubble, but I'll miss almost everything else.

After reading the interview with the mastermind Kevin Riepl, who's behind the music of Gears of War, are you dying to get your hands on the video game soundtrack? Fear not fanboys, because you can download a sample of the main theme song and Locust battle tracks for free. Damn does this music sound badass, it's very edgy and just makes me want to play some Gears right now. Who's loving the sounds and music Kevin Riepl has put together for this game? After hearing these sample tracks I'm definitely picking up a copy of the soundtrack, how about you?[Via, Digg]

IGN has an interesting article where they interviewed the composer of all those pretty sounds you hear in Gears of War Kevin Riepl. In the interview, Kevin discusses how he came up with the feel of the music, what inspired him and how much interaction there was between him and the devlopment team. It's actually kind of interesting to get to see this side of the development process, one a lot of people don't think about. Head on over to IGN and hear (get it, hear him ... yeah) what Kevin has to say about his experience working on Gears of War.
