Killer Cookie's back with a music video, filled with gorgeous animation, creative text artistry, and plenty of dancing elves. I'll admit that I wasn't familiar with the song, so I had no idea what I was getting into. At first, I was dreading another dancing elf video. Which, I suppose to be fair, Hello Heartache certainly is. But we don't see that kind of thing as often these days and Killer Cookie provided so much care, detail, and vision to the video that I don't mind. The only drawback to the video is that I think the story could have been telegraphed a little more clearly. The narrative is certainly there, but I still found myself wanting more. The video is so beautiful that I just wanted more. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Work Warning: WoW characters dressed in skimpy clothes and carefully-draped hair. It's been a while since we've seen a new Lady Gaga machinima, but Killer Cookie is here to bring us up to spec. The Applause is a WoW visionary take on the Lady Gaga song, complete with singing trolls and more than a few dancing blood elves. (There's always dancing blood elves.) In terms of music videos, The Applause delivers on its promise. The animation is convincing and a great deal of fun. If you're looking for story-based goodness, there's not much here for you. It's a music video. Inside that genre, though, The Applause is everything you could hope for. With a few dancing blood elves. Interested in the wide world of machinima? I guess you couldn't really cover a song like Love Me Like Money without it being about goblins, so it makes sense that's how Killer Cookie interpreted the song. While some parts of the video feel a little ragged, the overall effect is so much fun that I fell in love with it. The flying text works well with this video. I don't know if it's the modern, rhythmic music that supports the technique, or just the overall sense of the video, but it felt like a strong addition to the feel. In many videos, animated text just feels lame. Here, it totally make sense. Make sure you take the time watch it; Love Me Like Money is almost surprisingly good. I'm not sure how realistic the idea of Azhshara retaking her throne actually is, but Killer Cookie seems to have put some real though into it. With a haunting soundtrack and wonderfully rendered graphics, Queen Azshara's Revenge nearly makes me root for the return of the vile queen. Putting together faux-lore videos requires some forethought. If you stick too closely to the plot, then it's easy to confuse a viewer into thinking this is actually in the game. If you go divergent, you'll find that your audience doesn't care about your fiction. Killer Cookie nailed a middle ground in this video and created something truly interesting. And, like I said: totally gorgeous stuff. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Has it really been that long since we've had a Lady Gaga video? I guess so! But Killer Cookie's here to fix up that dry spell with He Ate My Heart. Don't worry, though: there's definitely a story underneath this definitely-a-music video. I guess the story is up to interpretation. I definitely had that classic "someone done wrong, and now there's revenged to be had" feeling, but enough of the narration was cut up enough that I wasn't absolutely certain. He Ate My Heart is a fun video. I appreciate the effort and skill that went into the animation and the overall idea is solid. I look forward to Killer Cookie's next effort, because I think it could be impressive. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch!
