Earlier this week, the internet erupted around a new obsession tailor-made to go viral. It started with a one-word snippet of recorded audio that had actually been circling the web for awhile, but unclear pronunciation made it an aural Rorschach. The question 'Do you hear 'laurel' or 'yanny?'' rallied everyone to pick a side. But why do stories like this, reminiscent of the great dress color debacle of 2015, captivate the internet?

Well, my goodness! We've got a week of the Flame and Frost prelude patch behind us, and what a week it's been! The patch notes for this sucker were impressive; for a relatively minor patch, the Flame and Frost prelude brought in a lot of tweaks and updates. I'm kind of glad for that, as quality of life additions were top on my list for hopes for Guild Wars 2 in 2013. I'm very pleased with ArenaNet for shoring up the content that's already out rather than leaving it be in the rush to get out new content. So! When you think about it, MMOs and Halloween go together like Sonny and Cher. Wait, let's come up with a more contemporary reference -- like Laurel and Hardy. Crud, that's even less contemporary. Do kids still do the iPods these days? MMOs and Halloween go together like Apple and DRM. The point is, they go together. Let us progress to the next paragraph and pretend like this one never happened. Halloween is all about engaging in fantasy, flirting with the dark side, dressing up in fantastical outfits, and getting sweet, sweet candy from complete strangers. This makes it a close cousin of your typical MMO experience, which is perhaps why MMOs tend to go bananas around October 31st with in-game holidays, decorations and costumes for your costumes. Assuming that your preferred MMO is throwing a Halloween holiday, will you be a willing and eager participant this Sunday? Is your guild planning a spooky bash and costume gala? Or are you planning a self-guided tour through the more terrifying locales with a group of friends-slash-victims? What are your MMO Halloween plans? Every morning, the Massively bloggers probe the minds of their readers with deep, thought-provoking questions about that most serious of topics: massively online gaming. We crave your opinions, so grab your caffeinated beverage of choice and chime in on today's Daily Grind!

The line to fork over $100 to reserve a Playstation 3 started at 6 a.m. at the Gamestop on Route 1 in Laurel, MD. Mike (the red-shirted gentleman in the picture above, who refused to give a last name) lined up at the early hour to ensure he got a system for himself and said he planned to go to another local store to reserve a system "for eBay." By 9 a.m. the line had grown to the seven hearty souls above, who still had an hour to wait before the store would open and take their money.
