Today's DSiWare and WiiWare lineup definitely looks like the work of a company that isn't paying the strictest attention to its current generation of consoles. As Nintendo turns its eye toward the future, the downloadable Wii and DS lineup is looking pretty sparse. The good news is that Flat Black Films was finally able to sneak its remarkable-looking animation app, Inchworm Animation, into the DSi Shop. That DSi in your hand just magically became an animation studio. Or it will, later, if you buy the program.%Gallery-122193%

With the 3DS now out in stores -- and unable to support DSiWare until May -- we expected Nintendo's download service to become a total ghost town today. It's definitely a slower day for the service than most Mondays, with just two new games (one of which is Faceez: Monsters, allowing us to relive the joy of finding out something was called Faceez), but releases are still happening. What we didn't expect was for WiiWare to go quiet(er). There have been occasional no-release days in the past, but today marks the first time in the history of the service that only demos have come out.%Gallery-119849%

Wow, it's a Virtual Console game -- and a good one at that. Faxanadu for NES was developed by Falcom, creators of the Ys and Dragon Slayer series (to which Faxanadu is tangentially connected), and published in America by Nintendo. Oddly enough, however, the now-defunct Hudson Entertainment is listed as the publisher for the VC version (Hudson Soft published the original game in Japan). In gameplay terms, it's a slightly more RPG-ish (and more brown) Zelda 2. And it's on the Virtual Console, in North America, today. Meanwhile, on WiiWare, there's another damn fireplace sim.%Gallery-117232%

Originally meant to be episodic, the long-awaited sequel Shantae: Risky's Revenge arrives on DSiWare today. At 1,200 DSi Points ($12), it's the most expensive game on the service -- though its price doesn't come close to comparing to eBay prices for the original (just the manual is $50). If nothing else, that should provide a clue as to the level of affection people, including opportunistic eBayers, have for this series. Also available this week: a Virtual Console game. No, really!%Gallery-104185%

So, some games are available this week on the Virtual Console, WiiWare, and DSiWare in Japan. Last year's NyxQuest, the Greek-themed platformer, is the star among the Wii releases. Otherwise, the Wii Shop a pretty unassuming lineup, unless you're three years old or love both war history and numbers. DSiWare has ... Miami Nights! Perfect if you like The Sims and constantly thinking of David Caruso jokes. Genghis Khan 2: Clan of the Grey Wolf (Super Famicom, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points) World Amusing Party Game 2 (WiiWare, 1-4 players, 500 Wii Points) NyxQuest (WiiWare, 1-2 players, 900 Wii Points) Learning with the PooYoos Episode 1 (WiiWare, 1 player, 500 Wii Points) Miami Nights Celebrity Version (DSiWare, 1 player, 800 DSi Points)

This week's releases largely belong to DSiWare, at least in terms of volume. Three Game & Watch simulators are joined by a downloadable version of The Price is Right, the surprise hit Faceez and Alphabounce, a Breakout clone with ... RPG elements? But in terms of quality, the Wii has the advantage, with both the NES version of Blaster Master and Akaoni Studio's WiiWare shooting game Zombie Panic in Wonderland, which combines fairy tale characters and firing guns at zombies. The complete list of releases for the week follows: Blaster Master (NES, 1 player, 500 Wii Points) Zombie Panic in Wonderland (WiiWare, 1-2 players, 1000 Wii Points) Learning with the PooYoos - Episode 2 (WiiWare, 1 player, 500 Wii Points) Game & Watch: Helmet (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points) Game & Watch: Manhole (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points) Game & Watch: Vermin (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points) Faceez (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points) The Price is Right (DSiWare, 1-4 players, 800 DSi Points) Alphabounce (DSiWare, 1 player, 500 DSi Points)

This week marks the one-year anniversary of the DSiWare service launch, and Nintendo is observing the occasion by putting interesting content on the service! Every week should be some kind of milestone. And speaking of annual observances, there's a Neo Geo game on Virtual Console. %Gallery-89767%

Nintendo celebrates Thanksgiving by dropping a massive feast onto the table of every Wii and DSi owner in North America. The next Bit.Trip game is now available on WiiWare, DSiWare receives another heaping serving of Electroplankton, and Virtual Console welcomes ... Super Mario Kart. We guess when Nintendo said "by year's end" it meant "next week." See the full, seasonally appropriate bounty after the break.

  • European Nintendo Downloads: Learning with the Golden Axe

We're going to be in the minority on this one, but that's okay: for us, by far the most exciting new addition to Europe's Wii Shop this week is the arcade version of Golden Axe. More of you may be happy to see Super Star Wars, however. Or, if you're teensy, Learning with the PooYoos. DSiWare offers a cute-sounding camera app that lets you add MySims characters to photos. The great thing about this, of course, is that MySims characters are unbelievably cute. Golden Axe (Arcade, 1-2 players, 900 Wii Points) Super Star Wars (SNES, 1 player, 800 Wii Points) Magnetis (WiiWare, 1-4 players, 500 Wii Points) Learning with the PooYoos: Episode 1 (WiiWare, 1 player, 500 Wii Points) MySims Camera (DSiWare, 1 player, 200 DSi Points) [Image credit]

  • Get some Pooyoos all over your Wii

What is it with WiiWare games and deceptive titles? Despite the somewhat lurid name given to its titular creatures, Learning with the Pooyoos is anything but. We have no idea why these critters are called Pooyoos, especially considering they appear to be just cutesy-fied animals. As the title implies, Learning with the Pooyoos is geared toward children, and aims to teach them about things like shapes and colors. Its greatest contribution, however, is undoubtedly the theme song, which has got to be the record holder for most instances of the word "poo" in a children's song. Enjoy the distilled madness in the trailer above. Learning with the Pooyoos should hit WiiWare in the UK on September 18. [Via GoNintendo]
