It's admittedly been <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/23/lenovo-s10-users-complaining-of-endless-fan-noise/">a while</a> since we heard about some <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/lenovo,s10">Lenovo S10</a> users' issues with heat dissipation and increasingly aggressive fan noise. Two years on, and one frustrated owner has taken it upon themselves to get inside the netbook and solve the issue. The result? The removal of a metallic-looking dust filter from within the left side vent, which is apparently enough to pacify the fan on this particular machine. We'd temper this solution with a warning: that cover was there for a reason, presumably a dust-related one. But, if a quieter machine is worth the price of a new netbook in the (not-so) long-run, it may be worth a try.<br />

Curious what the minimum specifications for <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/13/windows-8-for-tablets-hands-on-preview/">Windows 8</a> will be? As are we. Microsoft's remaining mum on specifics, but the outfit's Steven Sinofsky -- President of Windows and Windows Live -- just confessed during the opening Build 2011 keynote that an antediluvian <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/25/lenovo-ideapad-s10-gets-reviewed/">Lenovo S10</a> was potent enough to run Windows 8. And in fact, it'll do so with more poise than with Windows 7. A brief demonstration explained that Win8 demanded fewer system resources (barely, but still) than Win7 on the same hardware, proving that an early-gen Atom CPU and 1GB of RAM is "enough" to run the outfit's upcoming operating system. We highly doubt it's <i>enjoyable</i>, but at least you (probably) won't be forced into an upgrade if you don't want to be. Have a gander at the actual numbers just after the break!<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/13/windows-8-can-run-on-an-atom-cpu-1gb-of-ram/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Windows 8 can run on an Atom CPU, 1GB of RAM</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/13/windows-8-can-run-on-an-atom-cpu-1gb-of-ram/">Windows 8 can run on an Atom CPU, 1GB of RAM</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 13 Sep 2011 12:04:00 EST. It's hard to believe that it's been almost two and a half years since <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/pixelqi">Pixel Qi</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/10/olpc-spin-off-plans-75-laptop/">spun off from OLPC</a> and promised to bring its dual-mode, power efficient display to laptops, tablets, and e-readers. For those who haven't followed our small obsession with the 3Qi screen technology (shame on you!) it promises the best of both worlds: full-color graphics in a normal LCD mode, but also the ability to turn off the backlight to morph into a grayscale, e-paper like display. And while we've seen it demoed at <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/08/pixelqi-screens-to-be-used-by-major-manufacturer-in-2010/">tradeshows</a> (and<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/02/pixelqi-introduces-tablet-ready-screens-we-go-hands-on-video/"> more tradeshows!</a>), we haven't been able to get our own grubby hands on the much-lauded display. Until now, of course.<br />
<br />
No, the 3Qi display still isn't shipping in any commercially available products, but Pixel Qi is at long last offering a $275 10.1-inch <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/01/pixelqi-diy-netbook-display-replacement-kit-finally-on-sale/">screen replacement kit</a> for netbooks through MakerShed. Needless to say, we jumped -- <em>nay, leaped</em> -- at the chance to <em>finally</em> get the display into our laboratories, roll up our sleeves and get to crankin'. That's right, we got out the screwdriver, wrangled up an old <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/09/lenovos-ideapad-s10-2-reviewed-great-battery-life-but-more-of/">Lenovo IdeaPad S10-2</a> netbook and swapped in the 3Qi display for Lenovo's glossy panel. You're surely sitting on a metric ton of questions. Was it hard to swap out? Has the screen been everything we've ever fantasized about and more? Is it really 80 percent more power efficient than standard LCDs? We've got plenty of answers as well as a step-by-step how-to after the break.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/19/how-to-install-pixel-qis-3qi-display-on-your-netbook-and-why/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>How-to: install Pixel Qi's 3Qi display on your netbook (and why it's worth it)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/19/how-to-install-pixel-qis-3qi-display-on-your-netbook-and-why/">How-to: install Pixel Qi's 3Qi display on your netbook (and why it's worth it)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 19 Jul 2010 13:35:00 EST. Lenovo's aiming at a narrow niche with its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/S10-3t">IdeaPad S10-3t</a>, but for those interested in things like "multitouch tablets of the netbook size," the video after the break would probably tickle your senses. Shortly after going <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/29/lenovo-ideapad-s10-3t-multitouch-tablet-up-for-order-with-atom-n/">on sale</a> here in the States, the good folks over at <i>Netbook News</i> were able to procure one and unbox the whole thing on film. It's not quite seven minutes in heaven, but it's frighteningly close. Have a look beneath the break, won't you?<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/16/lenovos-ideapad-s10-3t-gets-unboxed-on-video-multitouch-screen/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Lenovo's IdeaPad S10-3t gets unboxed on video, multitouch screen and all</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/16/lenovos-ideapad-s10-3t-gets-unboxed-on-video-multitouch-screen/">Lenovo's IdeaPad S10-3t gets unboxed on video, multitouch screen and all</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 16 Feb 2010 15:50:00 EST. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Lenovo/">Lenovo</a> already treated us to a slew of new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/04/lenovo-intros-thinkpad-edge-x100e-ultraportable-and-other-think/">ThinkPad machines</a>, and now it's time for the Idea line to get its due. Up first, we've got the IdeaCentre A300, which is hailed as the industry's thinnest all-in-one desktop. Measuring just 18.5mm deep, the 21.5-inch machine sports a 1080p LED panel, Core 2 Duo CPU, WiFi and a bundled Bluetooth keyboard / mouse. The IdeaPad S10-3t (shown above) is the industry's first multitouch capacitive netbook tablet, with Lenovo trumpeting the device's ability to easily recognize fingertip input and plow through chores with an Atom <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/N470/">N470</a> CPU and a 320GB hard drive. Moving right along, the 14-inch Y460 and 15.6-inch Y560 offer up respectable multimedia performance on a budget, while the 20-inch Lenovo C310 goes down as the company's first multitouch all-in-one desktop. The Core i7-equipped IdeaCentre K320 caters to the gamers, and the G460 / G560 lappies are slated to suit those "mainstream" users who just need something basic to handle... well, the basics. Pricing, availability and detailed specifications await you just beyond the break.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lenovo-busts-out-ideacentre-a300-ideapad-s10-3t-and-plenty-of-other-solid-ideas/">Lenovo busts out IdeaCentre A300, IdeaPad S10-3t and plenty of other solid Ideas</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lenovo-busts-out-ideacentre-a300-ideapad-s10-3t-and-plenty-of-other-solid-ideas/#2558718"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/12/lenovo-ideapad-s10-3t_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lenovo-busts-out-ideacentre-a300-ideapad-s10-3t-and-plenty-of-other-solid-ideas/#2558719"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/12/lenovo-ideapad-s10-3_2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lenovo-busts-out-ideacentre-a300-ideapad-s10-3t-and-plenty-of-other-solid-ideas/#2558720"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/12/lenovo-ideapad-s10-3_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lenovo-busts-out-ideacentre-a300-ideapad-s10-3t-and-plenty-of-other-solid-ideas/#2558721"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/12/lenovo-ideacentre-a300_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lenovo-busts-out-ideacentre-a300-ideapad-s10-3t-and-plenty-of-other-solid-ideas/#2570122"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/12/y560_1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/05/lenovo-busts-out-ideacentre-a300-ideapad-s10-3t-and-plenty-of-o/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Lenovo busts out IdeaCentre A300, IdeaPad S10-3t and plenty of other solid Ideas</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/05/lenovo-busts-out-ideacentre-a300-ideapad-s10-3t-and-plenty-of-o/">Lenovo busts out IdeaCentre A300, IdeaPad S10-3t and plenty of other solid Ideas</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 05 Jan 2010 00:01:00 EST. It's been awhile since Lenovo last updated its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ideapad">IdeaPad</a> line, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/s10-2">S10-2</a> dropping over the summer, but we're hearing that the third iteration of the platform is set to be unveiled in the very near future. The model we <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/16/lenovo-ideapad-shown-to-possess-pineview-cpu-by-fcc-photo-shoot/">spied at the FCC</a> last month is confirmed to be the S10-3, possessing Atom N450 (Pine Trail) internals, a 10.1-inch screen, WiFi, 3G, and integrated GPS. More interesting is that there is an S10-3t model coming as well, a convertible tablet version which you can see the underside of above, thanks again to the FCC. It will feature a multitouch screen to make the most of its Windows 7 install, and hopefully won't be crippled by Starter Edition like <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/18/archos-9-tablet-and-its-windows-7-starter-edition-unboxed-video/">another tablet we know</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/23/lenovo-set-for-january-launch-of-pine-trail-packing-s10-3-netboo/">Lenovo set for January launch of Pine Trail-packing S10-3 netbook and S10-3t multitouch tablet</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 23 Dec 2009 09:34:00 EST. Yeah, that's some stiff kitty for two years of XP on last year's netbook hardware -- especially since you can <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/06/sprint-first-to-offer-a-99-cent-netbook-but-is-it-worth-it/">score the similar Compaq Mini 110</a> from Sprint for just 99 cents on sale with the same $60/mo 5GB data commitment. Of course, we're still standing by our suggestion that you just grab a <a href="http://engadget.com/tag/mifi">MiFi</a> and share the 3G love with as many machines as you can, but if these numbers somehow seem tempting sales should be starting in the next few days.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/laptops/" rel="tag">Laptops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/07/20/atandts-subsidized-acer-aspire-one-dell-mini-10-and-lenovo-s10-n/">AT&amp;T's subsidized Acer Aspire One, Dell Mini 10 and Lenovo S10 netbooks launching nationwide</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 20 Jul 2009 13:09:00 EST. Lenovo's <a href="http://img.engadget.com/tag/s10-2">S10-2</a> was a minor update to the original <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/25/lenovo-ideapad-s10-gets-reviewed/">S10</a> (to put things nicely), but that's not to say it's not worth a look for those in the market for a 10-inch <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/netbook/">netbook</a>. Boasting a slightly thinner, more beautified frame, the S10-2 also includes a tweaked keyboard, optional 3G, an extra USB port and none of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/23/lenovo-s10-users-complaining-of-endless-fan-noise/">quirks</a> that plagued the first edition. The benchmarking fiends over at <em>HotHardware</em> managed to sneak one of these things into their labs for testing, and while they largely found the S10-2 to be about the same as every other N270 + GMA 950 netbook out there, the 5.5 hour battery life was definitely impressive. All told, the S10-2 was found to be solid from top to bottom, but the $350 price tag <em>did</em> feel a bit steep considering just how many alternatives are out there. Still, even with the positive vibes, it's hard to recommend buying a WinXP netbook now with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Windows7/">Windows 7</a> (and thus, no hardware limitations) just around the bend. Without question, the hottest product in Lenovo's lineup right now is the recently unveiled <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/25/lenovos-449-ideapad-s12-first-netbook-with-nvidias-ion-chips/">IdeaPad S12</a>, but if you're not up for waiting (or if you just prefer the 10-inch form factor), you can wiggle your cursor over to the outfit's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/11/lenovo-gets-official-with-mildly-refreshed-ideapad-s10-2-netbook/">S10-2</a> portal. Starting today, the refreshed S10-2 is up for order, with current shipping estimates pegged at "within 16 business days." The unit is available in black, grey, white and pink starting at $439, but as always, it'll be tough to skip over all those customizations on the way to checkout.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://portablemonkey.com/article/lenovo-ideapad-s10-2-now-orderable-online/">PortableMonkey</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/laptops/" rel="tag">Laptops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/27/lenovos-ideapad-s10-2-now-available-to-order/">Lenovo's IdeaPad S10-2 now available to order</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 27 May 2009 12:22:00 EST. You know the drill by now -- first comes the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/04/lenovo-reveals-updated-3g-equipped-s10-2-netbook-in-user-manual/">leak</a>, then comes the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/11/lenovo-gets-official-with-mildly-refreshed-ideapad-s10-2-netbook/">announcement</a>, then comes the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/12/lenovo-ideapad-s10-2-gets-hands-on-treatment-favors-s10/">photo shoot</a>. And now, comes the video. Right on cue, the cool cats over at <em>GottaBeMobile</em> have whipped out the Handycam in order to show off Lenovo's latest entrant into the oversaturated <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/netbook/">netbook</a> arena. They seemed to appreciate most every tweak applied to the S10-2, though they did lament the fact that the new kid on the block didn't have a matte display as on the original <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/S10/">S10</a>. The vid's just past the break.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/14/lenovos-revamped-ideapad-s10-2-gets-demoed-on-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Lenovo's revamped IdeaPad S10-2 gets demoed on video</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/laptops/" rel="tag">Laptops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/14/lenovos-revamped-ideapad-s10-2-gets-demoed-on-video/">Lenovo's revamped IdeaPad S10-2 gets demoed on video</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 14 May 2009 17:19:00 EST. You've seen Lenovo's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/05/lenovo-adds-multi-touch-facial-recognition-to-its-s10-netbook/">IdeaPad S10</a>, right? If so, you'll surely recognize the recently revised <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/11/lenovo-gets-official-with-mildly-refreshed-ideapad-s10-2-netbook/">S10-2</a> -- a mildly tweaked version of the netbook that sports the most minuscule of changes. That said, the new top cover and larger, more mature keyboard are certainly worth a gander, so head on down to the read link to give your eyes a treat.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/laptops/" rel="tag">Laptops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/12/lenovo-ideapad-s10-2-gets-hands-on-treatment-favors-s10/">Lenovo IdeaPad S10-2 gets hands-on treatment, favors S10</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 12 May 2009 03:36:00 EST. Lenovo's S10 has walked a long, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/25/lenovo-ideapad-s10-gets-reviewed/">rough road</a>. First it battled months of delays, then hordes of anxious owners began weeping rivers due to incessant <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/23/lenovo-s10-users-complaining-of-endless-fan-noise/">fan noise</a>. Lenovo already made <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/05/lenovo-adds-multi-touch-facial-recognition-to-its-s10-netbook/">a few attempts</a> to better its cute-as-a-button netbook, but now it's ditching the little-by-little approach entirely and introducing a 'Part II' version. The understandably titled S10-2, which we spotted via a handy <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/04/lenovo-reveals-updated-3g-equipped-s10-2-netbook-in-user-manual/">user manual</a> just last week, is officially official, and while it's still rocking the same basic specs (1.6GHz Atom N270, 1GB of RAM, 160GB HDD, WiFi, 1.3 megapixel camera, etc.), there have been a few appreciated tweaks made. There's a new cover design, a larger keyboard, a bigger trackpad and a model with integrated 3G that'll run just $50 more than the standard $349.99 flavors; too bad Lenovo didn't take this opportunity to dish out an entirely new IdeaPad with a CPU that's marginally robust.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lenovo-ideapad-s10-2/">Lenovo IdeaPad S10-2</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lenovo-ideapad-s10-2/#2008232"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/05/ideapad-s10-2-lenovo-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lenovo-ideapad-s10-2/#2008233"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/05/ideapad-s10-2-lenovo-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lenovo-ideapad-s10-2/#2008234"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/05/ideapad-s10-2-lenovo-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/laptops/" rel="tag">Laptops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/05/11/lenovo-gets-official-with-mildly-refreshed-ideapad-s10-2-netbook/">Lenovo gets official with mildly refreshed IdeaPad S10-2 netbook</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 11 May 2009 15:05:00 EST. <div align="left">We already caught sight of a slightly mysterious, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/15/lenovo-netbook-with-built-in-3g-hits-the-fcc-destined-for-atand/">3G-equipped Lenovo netbook</a> last month courtesy of the FCC, and it looks like Lenovo itself is now adding to the speculation, with a recently revealed user manual all but confirming an updated S10-2 netbook. While there's still no word on complete specs, it does appear that this is more than just a minor update, with the netbook apparently sporting a different hinge and some rounded edges, along with an extra USB port (bring the total up to three), a larger trackpad, a slightly revised keyboard and button layout, and some new access bays that'll let you get at the RAM, hard drive, and wireless card. Unfortunately, it seems that Lenovo has also seen fit to remove one of the big selling points of the original S10, the ExpressCard slot, although the built-in 3G does at least makes that trade-off a bit more manageable. No word on pricing or availability just yet, but it seems like Lenovo could be getting official with this one any day now.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://eeepc.net/lenovo-preps-up-a-new-s10-netbook-with-3g-module/comment-page-1/#comment-436973g-0442648/">Eee PC - Blog</a>]<br /></div>

The Lenovo S9 and S10 have already <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/18/lenovos-ideapad-s9-s10-shows-up-in-fcc-database/">been approved by the FCC</a>, so the appearance of this mysterious nine-inch Lenovo netbook in Uncle Sam's all-knowing database is certainly thought-provoking -- especially since it's got a built-in AT&amp;T-compatible 3G card in it. That suggests to us that Ma Bell's about to start offering a subsidized S9 alongside its current stable of laptops, but we haven't seen or heard anything definitive yet -- do let us know if you spot something amazing in the SAR reports, would you?<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/laptops/" rel="tag">Laptops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/15/lenovo-netbook-with-built-in-3g-hits-the-fcc-destined-for-atand/">Lenovo netbook with built-in 3G hits the FCC -- destined for AT&amp;T?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 15 Apr 2009 19:39:00 EST. Lenovo's <a href="http://engadget.com/tag/s10">S10</a> netbook has always had a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/25/lenovo-ideapad-s10-gets-reviewed/">reputation</a> for being a bit warm to the touch, but it sounds like the little lappy has some more serious issues with heat -- the official Lenovo support forums are flooded with users complaining that the fan endlessly spins up and down. Making matters worse, Lenovo apparently hasn't acknowledged the problem, and some customers report that S10s sent in for repair return in exactly the same condition. That doesn't sound totally awesome -- anyone else having this problem?<br /><br />[Thanks, Denis]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/laptops/" rel="tag">Laptops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/02/23/lenovo-s10-users-complaining-of-endless-fan-noise/">Lenovo S10 users complaining of endless fan noise</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 23 Feb 2009 09:02:00 EST. A mere two days after launching a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/07/lenovo-sneaks-out-another-ideapad-s10-sku-with-160gb-hdd-1gb-r/">large capacity version</a> of its multi-hued IdeaPad S10 netbook, Lenovo's gone and chopped prices through and through, with specialty-color netbooks that used to retail for $439 landing at $359, and the boring black or white models retailing for $349, down from $399. Large capacity versions, with their fancy 1GB of RAM and 160GB hard drives go for $399 and $409 now, respectively. That's a savings of $50 or $80 for all you math whizzes out there, which is great but Lenovo is certainly not the only one to be <a href="http://engadget.com/tag/netbook">pushing down netbook price points</a> to what one might call "recession levels."<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.logicbuy.com/deals/Lenovo-IdeaPad-S10-10-in-LED-Atom-Netbook/7817.aspx">LogicBUY</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/laptops/" rel="tag">Laptops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/09/lenovo-drops-ideapad-s10-pricing-across-the-board/">Lenovo drops IdeaPad S10 pricing across the board</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 09 Dec 2008 10:52:00 EST. Not sure if you've noticed, but the battle between the netbooks has suddenly turned to price. Just 24 hours (give or take a few) after hearing that HP was lowering the MSRP of its Mini 1000 <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/06/hp-mini-1000-to-get-40-price-cut/">by $40</a>, in flies news that Lenovo has pushed out a new <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/s10/">IdeaPad S10</a> that seems like a pretty good bargain. For just a few bucks over the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/19/lenovos-ideapad-s10-netbook-ready-to-order-maybe/">standard model</a> ($449 to $459 depending on hue), to-be buyers can get one with 1GB of DDR2 RAM and a capacious 160GB (5,400 RPM) hard drive. Before you get all excited and pull the trigger, we should remind you that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/14/engadget-now-the-official-blog-partner-of-ces/">CES 2009</a> is under a month away -- can you say "upgrades?"<br /><br />[Thanks, CargoJack]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/laptops/" rel="tag">Laptops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/07/lenovo-sneaks-out-another-ideapad-s10-sku-with-160gb-hdd-1gb-r/">Lenovo sneaks out another IdeaPad S10 SKU with 160GB HDD / 1GB RAM</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 07 Dec 2008 08:17:00 EST. <div align="left">Lenovo's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/s10">S10</a> netbook has been relatively well received since its introduction earlier this year, but the battery life has always been a bit of a sticking point, with the included 3-cell battery simply not meeting some folks' netbook demands. It looks like that situation has now been rectified, in Germany, where a new model equipped with a six-cell battery has just gone on sale for the fairly reasonable price of &euro;329 (or roughly $425). Unfortunately, there's no indication of a release 'round these parts just yet, but you can check out some more pics of the somewhat bulky addition by hitting up the link below.</div>

It looks like <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Splashtop/">Splashtop</a> -- the instant-on, quickboot Linux OS that's been cropping up on a smattering of motherboards and PCs lately -- is headed onto a smaller platform. The company announced today that it's going to be loading up Lenovo's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/s10">IdeaPad S10e</a> netbook with a healthy dose of the software -- dubbed "Quick Start" -- allowing you to get to that all-important YouTube video faster than previously thought possible. This marks the first time Splashtop is making its way to a netbook, and we expect it will be shipping on all new models, though the company hasn't been explicit about that. We'll keep our fingers crossed, and let you know if we hear otherwise.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/laptops/" rel="tag">Laptops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/28/splashtop-quick-start-comes-to-the-lenovo-ideapad-s10e/">Splashtop 'Quick Start' comes to the Lenovo IdeaPad S10e</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 28 Oct 2008 09:00:00 EST. Lenovo's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/s10/">IdeaPad S10</a> has already started shipping out to those who were sold from the word go, but if you're still hungry to see how this thing performs, <em>HotHardware</em> has the goods. In a recent video hosted up by the site, we're shown a hands-on overview of the unit itself, a peek at the innards, a look at multimedia performance and even an energy test. Got five minutes to spare for a netbook you're seriously considering? Hit the read link and mash play.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/laptops/" rel="tag">Laptops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/17/lenovos-ideapad-s10-gets-thoroughly-tested-on-video/">Lenovo's IdeaPad S10 gets thoroughly tested on video</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 17 Oct 2008 12:19:00 EST. <div align="left">The folks at Laptop Magazine already offered up a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/20/lenovos-ideapad-s10-with-x4500-graphics-dubbed-wind-and-eee-pc/">few thoughts</a> on Lenovo's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/s10">IdeaPad S10</a> netbook after they got their hands on one last month but, as is their nature, they've now followed things up with a full review now that the unit is actually landing into the hands of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/24/lenovo-s10s-start-shipping-out/">customers</a>. As you might expect, while they did find the netbook to be one of the most stylish options currently avaialble, they also found quite a few trade-offs, including a slightly less spacious keyboard than is normally found on a 10-inch netbook, and an unfortunately weak three-cell battery. Somewhat notably, they also found that while the S10 was a "<span class="articleText" id="ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_lblArticleText"><span id="intelliTXT" name="intelliTxt">bit warmer" than other netbooks, it wasn't the worst they've seen, with the highest measured temperature being 101&deg; fahrenheit, which is a bit less toasty than some <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/13/lenovo-ideapad-s10-the-heat-it-generates-is-remarkable/">earlier reports</a>. Be sure to hit up the read link below for the full rundown, including some benchmarks and, of course, plenty of pictures.<br /></span></span></div>

<div align="left">Well, it looks like anyone that ordered a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/s10">Lenovo S10</a> netbook may be able to rest a bit easier, as at least some of 'em are now finally shipping out, making that supposed <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/10/lenovo-s10-delayed-two-months/">two-month delay</a> look increasingly like a false alarm. Judging from the discussion on Slickdeals.net, it seems that both white and black models are shipping, although a few folks are also reporting that their ship date has been pushed to late October. Any movement with your order? Let us know in comments.<br /><br />[Thanks, Chris and Lonnie]<br /></div>

We've been pretty <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/09/lenovos-ideapad-s10-unboxed-to-yawns-fuller-bank-accounts/">underwhelmed</a> by the Lenovo IdeaPad S10 thus far, and the news that this machine runs particularly hot (and not in the good way!) isn't likely to win over too many, uh, fans. The keyboard itself gets pretty warm, with temperatures measured between 38 and 42&deg;C (100.4 and 107.6&deg;F). That slightly edges out tests performed on the Eee PC 900 (101&deg;F / 38&deg;C), and leaves your Cloudbook (83&deg;F / 28&deg;C) as cool as a cucumber. There's no word on the bottom side's heat signature, but with keys like this we aren't expecting good things.<br /><br />[Thanks, Patrick]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/laptops/" rel="tag">Laptops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/13/lenovo-ideapad-s10-the-heat-it-generates-is-remarkable/">Lenovo IdeaPad S10: the heat it generates is remarkable</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 13 Sep 2008 07:38:00 EST. We're not sure what to make of this, but Liliputing says that orders for Lenovo's sharp <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/s10">S10 netbook</a> have been just been delayed for two months. Given the standardized nature of the Atom-based internals and this little guy's recent appearances <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/09/lenovos-ideapad-s10-unboxed-to-yawns-fuller-bank-accounts/">in the wild</a> and at <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/18/lenovos-ideapad-s9-s10-shows-up-in-fcc-database/">the FCC</a>, we'd venture that this has more to do with stock issues than with design problems, so hopefully things will get sorted a lot quicker than two months -- although apparently even Lenovo <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/20/lenovos-ideapad-s10-with-x4500-graphics-dubbed-wind-and-eee-pc/">didn't know</a> what parts it was putting in this thing, so who knows what's going on. Anyone else have an order pushed back -- or better yet, shipped out? We're still having trouble spotting anything on the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/s10">Lenovo IdeaPad S10</a> more special than its price point or that most excellent <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/06/touching-tale-of-heartbreak-promotes-lenovo-s10-rends-our-heart/">short film</a>, but that is one special price point, so let's give the thing a chance to wow us with an unboxing...<br /><br />Hrm. While we've been dealing with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/05/poll-is-microsofts-new-ad-working/">short-form</a> ad fare <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/05/screen-grabs-jerkface-verizon-fios-guy-brandishes-a-kindle/">in the States</a>, China's gone all artsy on us, with Lenovo releasing a short film to promote its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/s10">S9 / S10 netbook</a>. We won't ruin the plot for you -- the dialogue is all in Chinese, so it's not like we could -- but suffice it to say that the Lenovo S10 and <span style="font-style: italic;">unrequited love</span> play major roles.<br /><br />[Thanks, Patrick]<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/06/touching-tale-of-heartbreak-promotes-lenovo-s10-rends-our-heart/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Touching tale of heartbreak promotes Lenovo S10, rends our hearts in twain</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/laptops/" rel="tag">Laptops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/06/touching-tale-of-heartbreak-promotes-lenovo-s10-rends-our-heart/">Touching tale of heartbreak promotes Lenovo S10, rends our hearts in twain</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 06 Sep 2008 22:22:00 EST. Hey friend, ready for a full <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/19/lenovos-ideapad-s10-netbook-ready-to-order-maybe/">Lenovo IdeaPad S10</a> review? Sorry, this ain't it, but <em>Laptop's</em> initial hands-on with this "sweet 10-incher" might be enough to help with any imminent purchasing decisions requiring $429 in cash. What if we sweetened the deal and told you that Lenovo's netbook also features that very same un-netbooky X4500 integrated graphics found in Intel's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/centrino%202">Centrino 2</a> chipset -- no lame GMA950 here, pal. And as oddball as it sounds, one reader discovered that the red-colored S10 also features an external CD-RW/DVD-ROM for the same price as the white S10 (but $10 more than the black model). Check the full hands-on text (laced with adjectives like "spacious," "lovely," and "stylish") and video (where it's dubbed a Wind and Eee PC killer) just beyond the read link and just for you buddy.<br /><br /><strong>Update</strong>: A number of would-be buyers are reporting another case of Lenovo's retail ineptitude. The X4500 graphics appears to be just another misprint -- like those <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/05/thinkpad-x200-70-cheaper-with-128gb-ssd-option-order-now/">free SSDs</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/06/lenovos-wtf-of-the-day-thinkpad-r400-for-200-marked-down-fro/">$200 14.1-inch laptops</a> seen before. Hell, even the optical drive appears to be the stuff of data entry error. At this point it looks like we've got another GMA950 netbook on our hands which certainly makes more sense. Our advice? If you're ready to purchase then at least get on the horn with sales and confirm that bill of materials.<br /><br />[Thanks, Peter and Boning C.]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/laptops/" rel="tag">Laptops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/20/lenovos-ideapad-s10-with-x4500-graphics-dubbed-wind-and-eee-pc/">Lenovo's IdeaPad S10 with X4500 graphics dubbed "Wind and Eee PC killer"</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 20 Aug 2008 09:10:00 EST. Just days after <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/18/lenovos-ideapad-s9-s10-shows-up-in-fcc-database/">FCC approval</a>, the IdeaPad S10 netbook just popped on Lenovo's retail site tossing a big Chinese wrench in ASUS' plans for global Eee PC domination. At least we think so -- the S10 wasn't expected to hit the US until <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/04/lenovo-goes-netbook-with-ideapad-s10/">October (China September 5th)</a>. Availability says "ships within 2-3 weeks" but clicking on the "customize and buy" link results in an "Exception Occurred" error -- pretty much <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/06/lenovos-wtf-of-the-day-thinkpad-r400-for-200-marked-down-fro/">on par</a> with Lenovo's US retail launch routine. Anyway, for <s><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/04/lenovo-goes-netbook-with-ideapad-s10/">$399</a></s>, er $429 (thanks again dollar) you'll take home 512MB of memory and 80GB worth of hard drive, a 1.6GHz Atom N270 proc, Windows XP, and a paltry 3-cell Lithium-Ion battery. Annoyingly, the progression from the base-model black color to white or red costs an extra $10 without any appreciation in specs. While ASUS' is approaching the netbook market like <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/29/leaked-eee-pc-roadmap-shows-23-models-redefines-brand-dilution/">attrition warfare</a>, it might just be a few, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/18/dells-mini-inspiron-910-gets-specs-pics-and-potential-relea/">well-placed</a> products with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/06/lenovo-x200-128gb-ssd-option-gone-not-being-honored-move-along/">stellar support</a> that wins over the netbook market in the end.<br /><br />[Thanks, Kevin]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/laptops/" rel="tag">Laptops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/19/lenovos-ideapad-s10-netbook-ready-to-order-maybe/">Lenovo's IdeaPad S10 netbook ready to order, maybe</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 19 Aug 2008 03:45:00 EST. Hey, look -- another cart before the horse scenario! Long after <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/04/lenovos-ideapad-s-netbook-caught-on-video/">coming to grips</a> with the fact that Lenovo was indeed producing an IdeaPad <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/17/lenovos-ideapad-s9-lite-gets-a-site-more-specs-and-discounted/">S9</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/04/lenovo-goes-netbook-with-ideapad-s10/">S10</a>, the netbook(s) have surfaced in the FCC's lair. Interestingly, the User Guide looks to tackle both machines in one fell swoop, suggesting that there's not enough difference to warrant the writing of two whole pamphlets that no one will read. There's not too much here that you didn't already know, but it's always a great sign to see a machine make it past this <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/09/lenovo-shows-off-stable-of-olympics-themed-usb-flash-drives/">federal hurdle</a>.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/laptops/" rel="tag">Laptops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/18/lenovos-ideapad-s9-s10-shows-up-in-fcc-database/">Lenovo's IdeaPad S9 / S10 shows up in FCC database</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 18 Aug 2008 02:14:00 EST. Lenovo's <a href="http://engadget.com/tag/s10">S10</a> netbook might not be too daring in the design department, but it's still a pretty classy piece of kit -- mix that in with the $399 starting price point and Lenovo's marketing muscle, and we'd say that these first hands-on shots are just a prelude of things to come. Tons more shots at the read link.<br /> <br /> [Via <a href="http://jkkmobile.blogspot.com/2008/08/lenovo-ideapad-s10-first-hands-on-pix.html">jkkmobile</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/laptops/" rel="tag">Laptops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/05/lenovos-s10-netbook-gets-the-hands-on-treatment/">Lenovo's S10 netbook gets the hands-on treatment</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 05 Aug 2008 21:01:00 EST. We've seen Lenovo beefing up its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/ideapad">consumer offerings</a> of late, but this is really taking it up a notch. The company just announced its very first netbook, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/04/lenovos-ideapad-s-netbook-caught-on-video/">recently spotted</a> 10.2-inch, Atom-powered little wonder. Sadly, there's little of note in the design -- it seems to have more in common with the MSI Wind and the Eee PC than its Lenovo siblings -- but the $399 starting price is certainly pleasing. That model brings 512MB of RAM and a 80GB hard drive, while a $450 version will be available with 1GB of RAM and 160GB of storage, with both being powered by 1.6GHz Atom chipsets. Windows XP will be preloaded initially, but Linpus versions will be available eventually. The display is 1024 x 600 and LED backlit, and the touchpad does multi-touch. Lenovo didn't skimp on the trimmings either, with WiFi, Bluetooth, ExpressCard, 4-in-1 card reader and a 1.3 megapixel webcam. The S10 hits China on September 5th, and will land in the States in early October. A 9-inch version is also in the works for other countries.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://blog.laptopmag.com/lenovo-enters-the-mini-notebook-market-with-the-ideapad-s10">Laptop Mag</a>]<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lenovo-goes-netbook-with-ideapad-s10/">Lenovo goes netbook with IdeaPad S10</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lenovo-goes-netbook-with-ideapad-s10/#958082"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/08/lenovo-s10007_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lenovo-goes-netbook-with-ideapad-s10/#958083"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/08/lenovo-s10006_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lenovo-goes-netbook-with-ideapad-s10/#958084"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/08/lenovo-s10005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lenovo-goes-netbook-with-ideapad-s10/#958085"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/08/lenovo-s10004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lenovo-goes-netbook-with-ideapad-s10/#958086"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2008/08/lenovo-s10003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/laptops/" rel="tag">Laptops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/04/lenovo-goes-netbook-with-ideapad-s10/">Lenovo goes netbook with IdeaPad S10</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 04 Aug 2008 08:40:00 EST. We got all the specs on Lenovo's new Thinkstation line <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/11/06/lenovo-intros-the-thinkstation-s10-and-d10-workstations/">earlier today</a>, but pics of the new S10 and D10 case design just landed in our inbox and we've got to say, it looks pretty slick. Sure, that handle doesn't seem like it'll be all too useful, but compared to Lenovo's last <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/30/lenovos-3000-k100-tower-isnt-so-attractive/">attempt</a> at advanced design, this thing is positively restrained. On the more "conservative" side, the ThinkStation S10 offers either an Intel Core 2 or Core 2 Extreme processor, an NVIDIA graphics chipset, plus "multiple slots, bays and USB ports." Big brother ThinkStation D10 ups the ante on the CPU-side by adding an Intel Quad Core Xeon processor, which should warm your lab nicely. The systems are aimed at users engaged in "graphically and computationally-intensive" tasks, though the workstations also meet Energy Star 4.0 requirements, and contain more than 50-percent recycled plastics content. The new PCs will be available in January, with the S10 starting at $1,199, and the D10 at $1,739.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews.aspx?type=technologyNews&amp;storyID=2007-11-06T150315Z_01_N06327802_RTRUKOC_0_US-LENOVO-THINKSTATION.xml&amp;pageNumber=0&amp;imageid=&amp;cap=&amp;sz=13&amp;WTModLoc=NewsArt-C1-ArticlePage2">Reuters</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/desktops/" rel="tag">Desktops</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/11/06/lenovo-intros-the-thinkstation-s10-and-d10-workstations/">Lenovo intros the ThinkStation S10 and D10 workstations</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 06 Nov 2007 14:44:00 EST.
