This week, the European Wii Shop is granted with a somewhat anticipated new title, and one we're glad is launching there before it does here. We're intensely curious about the platform action title Icarian: Kindred Spirits, and the fact that it's coming out in Europe first means we'll get to read reviews. We hope those 100 soundtrack downloads are claimed by now, by the way! Also available for download this week: Let's Catch on WiiWare, and some more Brain Training on DSiWare.WiiWare: Icarian: Kindred Spirits Let's Catch DSiWare: A Little Bit of ... Before we even start this post, let's try to explain the elaborate premise of Yuji Naka's WiiWare title, Let's Catch. Okay, so, in Let's Catch, the object of the game is to both throw and catch things. In essence, it is a virtual game of catch. Wait, that's not elaborate at all. Never mind then. With that out of the way, we suggest you check out the Let's Catch trailer above and peruse the screens below.%Gallery-66132%

  • NintendoWare Weekly: Let's Catch some Towering Toast

It's an uncharacteristically packed week for WiiWare. Three games are out at once, and we've actually heard of all three. We feel like we're living in Japan! Nintendo didn't skimp on the Virtual Console either, with a new, exciting Virtual Console Arcade title -- well, new in the Virtual Console sense. It's still old. DSiWare also gets ... well, it's another set of clock and calculator apps. But they're exceptionally cute apps with Mario in them! That's still kind of worthwhile in our opinion. Maybe we just like making Mario coin sounds a little too much. Check after the break for the list of new downloads!%Gallery-40617%

  • ESRB rating hints at North American release of Let's Catch

While North America is still waiting for its first chance to lay fingers upon Yuji Naka's idiosyncratic brainchild, Let's Tap, a recent ESRB rating is hinting at the American release of Prope's second "Let's" project -- a WiiWare title by the name of Let's Catch. We'll give you one guess as to what the core gameplay mechanic involves. If you thought the gameplay in Let's Tap was bizarre, brace yourselves -- according to the ESRB description, Let's Catch features short sessions of "outdoor catch," where players participate in conversations with their computer-controlled partner. These conversations can apparently take a turn towards the topic of romance, with NPC's matter-of-factly stating things like, "I've decided to never think about chasing a married man again." Thanks, but we think we'll leave the computerized relationship chatter in more capable hands fins.[Via Sega Nerds]

  • OFLC catches Prope's WiiWare game

After the miraculous announcement of Sega's plan to localize Let's Tap (a game so weird we kind of didn't expect it to make it to stores at all, much less worldwide), we're not too surprised to see Prope's other Wii project, the much more conventional, lower-risk Let's Catch for WiiWare, on its way out of Japan. But we are pleased to see it happening.Let's Catch is exactly what one would infer from the title: a game about playing catch, with multiple single-player modes (including a ... story mode?) and multiplayer. It's a concept so weird (or weirdly mundane) that we find it fascinating! Australia's OFLC ratings board has rated the game, suggesting that it will be released there soon -- and thus, probably worldwide.

  • VC Tuesday: Let's Catch Earthworms

This week is (slightly) special for the Japanese Virtual Console, because a previously import-only game is making its debut on the service, even if it isn't entirely new to Japan. The Genesis version of Earthworm Jim never made it overseas, so the VC release is the first for this particular version of Earthworm Jim. There isn't even a 100 point surcharge for the import! The other VC download is Jigoku Meguri, a Taito platformer about a monk in hell. The name "Jigoku Meguri" (Tour of Hell) also apparently refers to a real-life tour of a bunch of hot springs! Neat. Earthworm Jim (Mega Drive, 1 player, 600 Wii Points) Jigoku Meguri (PC Engine, 1 player, 600 Wii Points) Along with those two games, three rather interesting WiiWare titles are available. Prope's Let's Catch is officially the first release from Yuji Naka's new Sega-funded studio, and probably the first game Yuji Naka has done any real work on in quite some time. Sorcery Blade is the first WiiWare RPG. And 1 Meke! Dasshutsu Game My Home-hen (something like One Extraction! Escape Game * My Home Edition) basically came out of nowhere. It appears to be a cutesy, comedic "room escape" game, like a colorful version of The Crimson Room. Let's Catch (1-4 players, 1,000 Wii Points) Sorcery Blade (1-2 players, 1,000 Wii Points) 1 Meke! Dasshutsu Game My Home-hen (1 player, 500 Wii Points)

Let's Tap developer Prope is quietly building themselves a series. In addition to the weird hands-off minigame collection, the company has a WiiWare game on the way, also for Sega: Let's Catch. They revealed it in October, but it hasn't gotten the attention of its retail cohort. The official site now has a gameplay trailer available (click on the green buttons with the "NEW" speech bubbles -- the top is for high-speed connections, and the bottom is for dialup). More excitingly, if you click on the far right "New" button on the top navigation bar (the one with "Web" in it), you can play a Flash demo of Let's Catch's "Speed Catch" mode! The game also includes a four-player mode and ... a story mode. Yes.Let's Catch is expected on the Japanese WiiWare service next week, for 1,000 Wii Points.[Via GAME Watch]
