We already knew that Amiibo figures for Captain Falcon, Diddy Kong, Little Mac, Luigi, Pit and Zelda would be worming their way into our hearts and onto our shelves sometime in December, but Amazon and Walmart seem to have narrowed that window down to a single day: December 14. When browsing Walmart's website, a release date of 12/14/2014 can be seen next to each of the aforementioned figures, ditto for Amazon. And it's not just online listings - the official Walmart Twitter account has also seemingly confirmed the date. "Yes, the release date for Captain Falcon Amiibo is set for December 14," the "Walmart Elves" tweeted to a prospective Amiibo purchaser after he inquired if the date was official. Of course, numbers on the internet and even Santa's helpers can be wrong from time to time, but it probably wouldn't hurt to stake out your spot in line if there's a particular figure you need to add to your collection. During this afternoon's Nintendo Direct livestream, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata introduced a new character for Super Smash Bros., Little Mac. The Punch-Out!! series protagonist joins the cast on both 3DS and Wii U. You can see a variety of his attacks and special moves in the trailer above. We just hope the trainer doesn't talk that much in the actual game, because that would be super distracting. [Image: Nintendo]

It's been over 10 years since the last game in the Punch-Out!! series -- Super Punch-Out!! on the SNES -- was released with a new visual style, a host of new boxers, and some new moves in Little Mac's repertoire. Nintendo has finally provided us with another installment in the series, now with motion-based controls, Balance Board support, and multiplayer. While it ultimately feels like the same game we've played before, it's hard to peg that as a bad thing.[Note: If you don't feel like battling a whole bunch of text, feel free to enjoy our video synopsis of Punch-Out!! by using your mouse bicep to punch-click this handy link.]%Gallery-33381%

  • Little Mac trains, Doc Louis eats in latest Punch-Out!! commercial

We all know that boxing is a rather physically demanding sport -- but rarely does anyone acknowledge the emotional toll it takes on participating pugilists. Take poor little Little Mac, former W.V.B.A. champ, whose remarkable achievements in the ring crumbled beneath the tremendous girth of King Hippo, setting the miniature boxer on a downward spiral that he wouldn't escape for 15 years. Now, with a little over a week between us and Little Mac's ringside return in Punch-Out!! for the Wii, he's getting back in shape with a bit of help from his bike riding den mother, Doc Louis. You can catch a short documentary/commercial (documercial?) about the rise and fall of Mac after the break. It's pretty funny! But also pretty tragic. (But mostly funny.)

  • Punch-Out!! trailer introduces 'Giga Mac,' multiplayer mode

Nintendo has officially announced (via GameTrailers) an ... interesting looking ... multiplayer mode for upcoming Wii game, Punch-Out!! Hidden after a full minute of the Punch-Out!! trailer we've already seen is the entirely new minute, containing news of not only the modestly named "Head-to-Head" mode but also "Giga Mac" (pictured above).Gleaning what we can from the trailer, we're wont to believe that the large version of Little Mac is a direct product of well-placed punches filling up a "super" meter next to each players respective health bars. Nintendo clearly wants us to know the appearance of "Giga Mac" isn't a game ender for multiplayer, though, as even in the video (after the break) Little Mac prevails against his gargantuan twin. We're looking forward to finding out even more about Punch-Out!! when it arrives on May 18.

We know, we know: You woke up this morning thinking to yourself, "I really need a great way to waste this crisp $90 bill in my pocket, but I don't know how!" Rest your worried head, friend, because Amazon.com has an answer for you in Punch-Out!! star Little Mac's Boxing Glove. You read that right -- not the game, but a single, signed boxing glove. Ignoring all reality and allowing for the possibility that a video game character physically signed this $90 glove, this "limited edition" punching package arrives mounted on a 15'' x 11'' wood frame and ships with an "engraved plate donning the Punch-Out!! logo." Head right on over to Amazon because supplies are assuredly going to run out ... less than quickly. Oh, and just in case we weren't clear enough initially: Punch-Out!! is not included when this glove becomes available on May 18 alongside the game.Update: Commenter heyo007 pointed out that Amazon also has a "Heavyweight Contender Kit" as well, in case you were trying to round out your $90 Little Mac signed glove purchase with a $35 "inflatable desktop punching bag, King Hippo crown replica, boxer shorts and Doc Louis's Remedy chocolate bar" purchase.

Nintendo just announced a May 18 release date for Punch-Out!!, giving Little Mac plenty of time to find a pair of diminutive gloves just his size before he waggles back into the ring this Summer. The game is among the more hotly-anticipated efforts in Nintendo's coming lineup, promising a return to form as everyone's favorite underdog throws down against the likes of Soda Popinski and King Hippo. According to sources, both are downing crates of Jolt and cheeseburgers on their road to get back into fighting shape.

Readying Soda Popinski for battle with everyone's favorite underdog, Little Mac, takes time, folks. Today though, It seems that Nintendo may be getting closer to releasing the next iteration in the now aging series, Punch-Out!!, with the ESRB having officially rated the game as "Everyone 10+."Though we've yet to get our hands into Nintendo's punching gloves and see if the game's any good, based on screenshots and the little video we've seen we can wholeheartedly say (tongue fully in cheek) OMG PUNCH-OUT KING HIPPO AHHHH!1!11! Considering that the game's set for a "first half 2009" release window in Europe and the U.S., it has to be coming soon, right?Sorry to say this 9-year-olds, but it's time to suck it up and be patient. You'll hit the double digits soon! In the meantime, we'll be over here playing NES Punch-Out!! on your Wii. Without you.[Via PureNintendo]%Gallery-33381%

  • Famitsu reveals Captain Rainbow details

As our extreme fondness for Seaman clearly shows, we absolutely adore bizarre games. Sure, Nintendo's upcoming Wii title Captain Rainbow may have a severe lack of Nimoy and man-faced fish, but it more than makes up for it with trippy visuals and an all-star (well, half-star) cast of Nintendo's supporting characters. We're definitely intrigued by what we've seen from the game, though we weren't sure exactly how we were going to interact with the lonely Birdo and a morbidly obese Little Mac -- until a recent Famitsu article revealed a few details about the title's gameplay. As our Wiimote-toting brethren at Wii Fanboy succinctly observed -- Captain Rainbow appears to be one part Animal Crossing, and one part action. The titular yo-yo wielder will make his way about Mimin island, helping its inhabitants and playing certain minigames, the rewards for which are crystals known as "kirarin". Collecting 20 kirarin will open up one of the game's action portions, in which the Captain will traverse a side-scrolling level to collect a falling star, which will grant the wish of one of the island's inhabitants. That seems just bizarre enough to ensure the game won't be coming to America, but our fingers are crossed nonetheless.

We're not referring to hamburgers, although they were no doubt involved with the transformation of Punch-Out!!'s diminutive protagonist from lithe, tiny athlete to pseudo-Cartman. Captain Rainbow is very quickly revealing itself as more than a top-down, adventure-based take on the same Japanese superhero tropes explored in Viewtiful Joe: it's a haven for lost Nintendo characters. The first video introduces Little Mac and his unfortunate weight gain. Little Mac then tells the story of Birdo, who seeks popularity with the boys (Yes, Birdo, or as she used to be known, Catherine, is female. Yes, we read the Super Mario Bros. 2 manual.) In the second, Nick (who becomes Captain Rainbow) trains Mac back to prime littleness, with narration from Nazo no Murasame-jou's Takamaru (who will probably be the subject of the next video). We didn't embed the videos because it's in your best interest to go see them on YouTube, where the clever uploader, 23Makoto23, has used YouTube comments to create subtitles (here is the original Captain Rainbow video subtitled).

  • Crochet-Out!! with Little Mac and Mike Tyson

We can't help but love Little Mac, the quintessential underdog. If seeing him on your virtual console isn't enough, though, how about seeing him around your neck in the winter? You may have also noticed that this scarf has Mike Tyson's big mug on it, so you won't have to settle for Mr. Dream. Realistically, we know you won't buy this -- after all, the scarf is a whopping $175 on Etsy. Still, we admire the craftsmanship that went into Beatboxtaun's crocheting, and we hope you do, too. We only wish we had such skills ourselves, so that we didn't have to drool over these kinds of things on Etsy all the time.In our opinion, this definitely beats out the Punch-Out mat for the best craft featuring Little Mac (that we know of).[Via Technabob]

Oh man, why couldn't he have been a playable character? We guess we can't be too upset, considering he still made his way into the game. This is something we've been dying for since the first game on the N64. Little Mac has two different attacks, his swift jabs and his special move, the uppercut. In fact, now our thoughts are drifting toward a resurrection for the franchise on the Wii.%Gallery-6869%%Gallery-3347%
