TenTonHammer have an interview up with Space Time Studios, discussing their brand new "epic science fantasy" MMO. This is the first serious bit of news to come out of the studio, other than their art director visiting China.Space Time Studios are still keeping quiet about major details of their new MMO, but we now know that the primary focus will be real-time space flight & combat, and it's epic science fantasy. Whatever that means. Presumably kobolds riding beholders and firing laser rifles at each other. Formed in late 2005, Space Time Studios includes many game industry vets that have worked on such titles as Star Wars Galaxies, Jump to Lightspeed, Wing Commander ... and even a Duke Nukem Forever escapee.Major details and a name for their project shouldn't be too far off, so stay tuned.

  • Lonestar sues Nintendo over capacitor

So, here's the deal: one day an exec over at Nintendo was hanging a clock in his home. in order to do this, he had to stand on the toilet, which obviously made the exec fall and hit his head. Upon waking to find a bruise, he came up with an incredible invention: the Wii capacitor. And, that's why the lawsuit filed by Texas-based company Lonestar Inventions is completely irrelevant. Movie homages aside, the lawsuit is looking to be ridiculous. First of all, Lonestar didn't even contact Nintendo regarding the lawsuit, instead just filing it without the company's knowledge. Secondly, they haven't even said which capacitor it is that breach's their rights. Finally, the Austin-based offices of the company are located in a law office and have sued other notable companies, including Kodak, in the past.[Via Engadget]

  • Lonestar sues Nintendo over Wii capacitor design

A Texas-based company called Lonestar Inventions has sued Nintendo, claiming that the company copied one of Lonestar's patented capacitor designs and used it in the Wii. As is usual with intellectual property related lawsuits, there's a fair degree of shady business surrounding the lawsuit. For one, Lonestar didn't contact Nintendo before filing, and hasn't told the company precisely which capacitor breaches the patent holder's rights. For two, Lonestar has apparently sued other companies -- including Kodak and Freescale -- in recent times, in a similar style. It's probably not a coincidence that Lonestar's offices are located in an Austin law firm, either. Yet more evidence that the patenting system is well and truly messed up.[Via Wall Street Journal (Paid Subscription Required)]
