Magic 2014: Duels of the Planeswalkers, the most recent video game adaptation of the Magic: The Gathering trading card game, has grown a bit larger with the release of a third deck pack. Like the game's prior two deck packs, this addition is priced at $3 and adds two new decks to Magic 2014. "Warsmith" is described as a red and white deck bolstered by beneficial artifacts and spells designed to improve the effectiveness of your virtual cardboard troops. "Hunting Season," by contrast, is a green deck that relies on oversized creatures to trample your foes. If sheer size doesn't work, and your armies are still being cut to pieces, don't worry: This deck is designed to allow players to quickly summon new creatures at a moment's notice. The third deck pack for Magic 2014 should be available now on the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Steam and the Android and iOS app stores. If you can't find it on your platform of choice, wait a bit, then check again. According to the deck pack's developers, "launch timing may vary by platform and region."

Come September 18, Magic 2014 - Duels of the Planeswalkers will tap the necessary mana to call forth its first official expansion. The list of additions the expansion is said to deliver are pretty much exactly what you'd expect: More cards, new campaign levels and new challenges. Specifically, those who purchase the addition will find five new decks at their disposal for a total of 280 additional, unique cards. Six new campaign levels also join the extant Magic 2014 feature set, along with five new challenges designed to test players' abilities to survive in specific gameplay scenarios. Finally, the expansion also brings with it a host of new unlockable items for players skilled enough to find them. These include additional trophies, achievements and new portraits for your in-game avatar. Absent from today's announcement is an official price point for the expansion, though if the expansions released for earlier Magic titles are any indicator, this addition should be priced somewhere between $3 to $5.

The single biggest request since the Duels of the Planeswalkers series began three games ago has been for fully customizable decks. Before now, players couldn't tweak their land count, but the feature has finally been introduced to the series by way of Magic 2014: Duels of the Planeswalkers. This feature alone makes Magic 2014 superior to its predecessors, but Stainless Games went further by overhauling the series' campaign mode and adding a new Sealed Deck variant into the mix. Stainless also completely redesigned the HUD elements that appear while in battle, making turn orders and actions much easier to understand at a glance. Magic 2014 is a careful dissection of the three games preceding it, addressing nearly every issue that has surfaced since the series began.%Gallery-187688%

Sean Gibbons, Community Coordinator at Wizards of the Coast, walks us through one of the big additions in Magic 2014: Duels of the Planeswalkers: the Sealed Campaign. Essentially, players open a set number of sealed booster packs and build a deck from those cards, limiting the pool of available cards and adding an element of randomness to duels – a popular play type in the physical format. So with six 14-card booster packs, players construct a custom 40-card deck. During the campaign, three additional booster packs will be unlocked. This custom deck, which you can name, is also available in online play. Past the break, we've embedded a general overview video of Magic 2014, also narrated by Gibbons.
