Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 swoops onto game consoles everywhere later this year. In it, characters from the pages of your favorite funny-books will band together in teams and fuse power like never before. The latest trailer for MUA2 shows off some of the special fusion techniques players can expect. Ignite a tornado formed by Storm as the Human Torch, deflect Iron Man's energy blasts as Wolverine; combine any ability to create devastating attacks in battle versus evil-doers. So far, the game looks interesting. What doesn't look even remotely interesting is Iron Man's character model. He looks like a hobo who uses the box he lives in as his suit to fight crime. Check out the trailer after the break.

Imagine if Marvel's super heroes were to form a sort of ... alliance. An ultimate one, at that. Then, they somehow gained the ability to fuse their powers together. You'd have yourself a Marvel Ultimate Alliance of Fusion, or "MUAF," but we don't think we like how that acronym crawls off the tongue. Tweak it a bit and you have Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2: Fusion, Activision's next action-RPG team up set in the Marvel Comics universe, where players will, in fact, be able to combine the powers of various heroes to make more powerful powers. The game was announced at Activision's E3 non-E3 event, where only a brief teaser was shown. This slightly longer snippet was unveiled at San Diego Comic-Con 2008, which got underway today in Southern California. It indeed shows off various Marvel characters fusing their powers, but looks far from actual gameplay. It's still pretty slick to see Wolverine and The Hulk team up for a variation of the Fastball Special, though.

At its own event outside the walls of E3, Activision had a few announcements to make regarding its future lineup. One of the titles Activision focused on is the sequel to the poplar super-hero beat-em-up, Marvel Ultimate Alliance. In Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2: Fusion, players can -- for the lack of a better word -- fuse different superhero powers together and create their own crazy abilities. We really enjoyed the original Marvel Ultimate Alliance so we're happy to see a new title in the works. What powers would you create?Clarification: By create your own abilities we mean by using multiple character abilities to create combos of attacks, not meshing them into a new ability to use.
