Since Sony is scheduling occasional live-streamed press conferences in the vein of Nintendo Direct instead of going to E3, it's time for the second State of Play. For this PlayStation event, the company has teased a new look at a game we've already heard about, MediEvil, as well as the first look at an unnamed PS4 title. Plus, unlike the first one in March this should only take about ten minutes. Otherwise, we're not expecting to hear anything more about the PS5, but you can watch the entire event and see what's unveiled right here when it begins at 6 PM ET / 3 PM PT. Update: It's over, and the biggest reveal was some new footage of the FFVII Remake.

Everything old is new again in gaming these days, including a game about resurrecting an old hero for another adventure. Sony and Other Ocean have released the first trailer for the PS4 remake of MediEvil, the PS1 classic that puts you in the boots of revived knight Sir Daniel Fortesque as he saves the realm from his arch-nemesis Lord Zarok. Much like the Crash Bandicoot and Spyro remakes, the core gameplay and plot are about the only things left untouched. The visuals, sound and cutscenes are much better -- Sir Dan looks more like the skeletal knight you saw on the box than the bundle of polygons from the original.

  • PSVR mech battler 'Rigs' won't get any new content

Sony today confirmed that there will be no more DLC coming to multiplayer PSVR launch title Rigs. Following the recent closure of developer Guerilla Cambridge, it seems Sony has opted to cut short its initial plan for additional Rigs content. While the ambitious mech-based multiplayer shooter won itself a loyal fan base amongst early PSVR adopters, Sony's decision to close Guerilla Cambridge suggests that the game's sales weren't quite up to expectations. Despite the closure, Sony told Eurogamer that Rigs' online servers will be unaffected, with the game still scheduled to receive patches and other "community support".

  • Sir Daniel Fortesque lives agains with Skyrim MediEvil mod

Remakes and remasters seem to be all the rage these days, what with games like The Last of Us Remastered recently released and Pokemon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire on the horizon. But those are official efforts with big-name companies like Naughty Dog and Nintendo attached; let us not forget about the little guys like modder KorinOo, who's remaking the PlayStation classic, MediEvil, using Skyrim. KorinOo isn't planning to remake the entire game, mind you - just the first four levels, which encompass Sir Daniel Fortesque's initial rise from the grave to the game's first boss fight. Even factoring in the liberties KorinOo will be taking by utilizing Skyrim's engine, the game won't be a perfect copy. "I want to make all the levels/areas recognizable and close to original, but at the same time I want to update some archaic mechanics (combat, interactions, etc.) to modern standards," KorinOo writes on the project's NexusMod page. The mod has been a work in progress for some time, but with the recent release of the trailer you see above, it looks like KorinOo is on their way to completing their quest. Two more characters have been announced as members of the PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale roster, both of which attach firmly to either side of the "deep cut" spectrum: Nariko of Heavenly Sword fame, and MediEvil's Sir Daniel Fortesque. As has been the case with the last few All-Stars character reveals, both Nariko and Fortesque were originally rumored a few weeks ago when files pulled from the beta found their way to neoGAF. Nariko's fighting style is described as "high risk, high reward" by designer Seth Killian in the video above, while Fortesque is said to be much slower and more methodical. Both characters, however, use weapons culled from the annals of their respective series' history.Update: The video originally embedded above, belonging to Gamespot, has been set to private. We have replaced the video with a mirror located here and have updated this post's source link to reflect that change.

  • Xperia Play: PSOne Classics sales slow, Sony promises 'big announcements' at E3

The Xperia Play has yet to launch in the US, but it's already available in the UK, Canada, Ireland and Spain. Since arriving in those regions last month, sales of PSOne titles being offered for the phone haven't exactly been brisk, evidently. Current figures based on the Android Marketplace peg sales at below 1,000 installs for each title: Cool Boarders 2, Destruction Derby, MediEvil, Syphon Filter and Jumping Flash. Dominic Neil-Dwyer, Head of Market Development at Sony Ericsson, told PlayStation LifeStyle that it's not really a concern. "There's only a few, at the minute, PlayStation One titles there, and there's more coming on a regular basis," he said. "And there's the whole PlayStation as a content provider exclusive to the device...so, there's no concerns, it's a revolutionary device, it's shaking up the market, we're very pleased with it." As for what the future has in store, he says to look to E3, as more games and support for the device are sure to be announced there. "There'll be more exclusives to come," Neil-Dwyer promised. "We'll be making some pretty big announcements at E3."

America catches up with Europe today (we so rarely get to say that) as Medievil Resurrection becomes available on the PC Store and the PSN Store via PS3. As if to rub it in the faces of their European cousins, it's accompanied by an interview video and wallpaper. Both free, naturally. • Sony pulls two more PS1 titles from the PlayStation Store

Sony has pulled two more PS1 titles from the PlayStation Store due to 'technical problems'. This is after last week, when they pulled Medievil due to a game stopping bug. This time around, we lose Crash Bandicoot 2 and Spyro 2 (which was on shaky ground already due to an audio bug). No time frame was given for when the titles will get re-released. According to Sony, they're looking into what caused the bugs but, "This investigation is highly technical and requires some time to work through." People who have purchased these titles will be contacted by Sony in the next 10 days about what the plan is. People who have already downloaded the titles won't have to pay for them again, but there's no knowledge if customers will be able to just get a rebate if they don't want to wait for a 'fixed' version to come out.

  • PlayStation 1 games on their way to the EU PSN Store

It seems like Sony Europe got a visit last night from the Ghost of PlayStation Future. "Update the European PSN Store!" the ghost would no doubt have said. "And not with one of those well-intentioned insults that consist of a couple of trailers. Give them games!" So Sony did and, seemingly, they will continue to do so for at least the next two weeks. So scared was Sony of the Ghost of PlayStation Future that they even planned to release a selection of PS1 games onto the European PSN Store, on the 22nd of June. Namely: Crash Bandicoot Medievil Wipeout Jumping Flash Syphon Filter With that, the Ghost of Playstation Future's work was done. Harmony would reign over the European continent. At least until July. The End.[Via PSP Fanboy]

File Size: 330MBPrice: $5.99Developed By: Millenium InteractPublished By: Sony Computer Entertainment of AmericaOriginal Release Date: October 1, 1998Short ReviewNot Recommended. Bringing Medievil to the PlayStation Store was a questionable decision at best. The original PSone game didn't bring anything new to the table, and it's PSP remake didn't fare any better. The gameplay has aged quite poorly over the past eight years, making Medievil a game that you'd like to like ... but can't. Don't let the endearing characters and setting fool you: Medievil is bad.

  • Medievil appears on Sony's battered PlayStation Store

While Japan enjoys a healthy addition of PSone games to the PlayStation Store, including Dino Crisis and R-Type, Americans are left with Medievil, a questionable-at-best addition to the store. Why, you ask? Didn't they already make a PSP remake of this game? It seems like Sony has to stop giving us games that already have PSP-exclusive sequels and remakes available. This paltry update to the PSone library certainly doesn't make me want to jump and down and celebrate. However, for the sake of Retro Reviews, I would've downloaded it... if it was possible. The PlayStation Network is being hammered right now, most likely in preparation of the hotly-anticipated Gran Turismo HD demo.[Thanks, sean! Via PS3 Fanboy]
