The Nintendo eShop brings us multiple blasts from the past this week, as the Nintendo 3DS hosts a remade 16-bit shoot-'em-up while the Wii U nabs a classic Mega Man game. Capcom's Mega Man Battle Network joins the Wii U's Virtual Console lineup today, introducing the 2001 Game Boy Advance RPG spinoff to a new generation of players. Other Wii U eShop games premiering this week include the arcade-style shooter XType Plus, logic puzzler IQ Test, and Frederic: Resurrection of Music, a story-heavy rhythm game starring a reanimated Frederic Chopin. 3DS owners can expect to see the kid-friendly action game Lego Ninjago: Nindroids, slicing puzzler Tangram Attack, and Steel Empire, a remake of a steampunk-themed shoot-'em-up originally released for the Sega Genesis. Looking for 3DS deals? Starting today, you can pick up Sweet Memories: Blackjack for 30 percent off ($2.79), WAKEDAS for 34 percent off ($1.99), and Darts Up 3D for 67 percent off (99 cents) through August 20. Chinese indie developer Onipunks Studio kicked off its Kickstarter campaign for C-Wars last week. C-Wars is a roguelike real-time strategy and tower defense-styled game that is currently in its alpha stage of development. The game has players investigating infected areas of a post-apocalyptic world, taking on enemies in Mega Man Battle Network-style RTS combat along the way. The game's site notes that battles are much faster paced with non-stop action being a focal point, as seen in the developer's Kickstarter video above.Onipunks is offering a free demo of the alpha build of the game on its website. C-Wars is currently sitting at $19,943 in funding, and is seeking $32,000 by May 11 to complete its Kickstarter campaign. The game is coming to PC, Mac, Linux and Android tablets in fall 2013, with the developer considering Wii U and 3DS support, providing enough money is pledged to make that happen.

Hold on, we know we've got a paragraph lying around here that will work with a minimum of editing. ... Ah, here we are, from March of 2008. We'll just put the new stuff in brackets, as we're a little busy for a whole new post.Capcom has announced that [Rockman EXE Operate Shooting Star] will be out for the DS in [fall, in Japan]. This action-RPG follow-up to [2005's Mega Man Battle Network 6 (Cybeast Gregar/Cybeast Falzar)] follows in [series traditions, remaking the first game in the series].... There, that about covers it, right? We're sure this news is exciting to those of you who've found the hours in the day/willpower to tell Mega Man games apart anymore. Seriously, you're an inspiration to us all.

Thanks for the feedback from last week! Reactions to the new format seem to be somewhere in the middle, so perhaps we'll alternate between the two styles, or possibly merge them. Continued feedback is always appreciated. With that said, here's another stab in the new format. This time, with Mega Man 9 fever still running rampant (made all the more frantic with this past Monday's release of Proto Man), we've decided to take a look at the blue bomber's non-ZX series on the DS: Mega Man Star Force. Pedigree Mega Man Star Force 2: Zerker X Saurian is -- hang on, I've gotta catch my breath after that title ... whew ... okay, I'm good -- a sequel to the Mega Man Star Force titles. I say "titles" because Capcom decided to split the title up into three "versions," similar to Nintendogs and most Pokemon games. When done right, this can be awesome. But as is the case with most things Capcom touches, it's a money-maker. That's the rub with Capcom: they produce some of the finest titles ever, but they certainly aren't shy about squeezing every penny from a game or franchise possible. Back to Star Force, once again Capcom has released multiple editions of the title. This time, only two were created: Ninja and Saurian, the latter of which we'll be using. The game is an indirect successor to the Mega Man Battle Network series. Like its predecessors, it involves light-action incorporated into RPG-styled battles. The root gameplay is enjoyable, but doesn't seem to have the lasting power to be re-packaged perpetually until the end of the time as does the primary franchise.
