There hasn't been a new Art Style game on WiiWare since October 2008 -- they've all gone to DSiWare since that platform launched. Today, the series returns to Wii, in much the same way as it started: with a fancy update to a GBA Bit Generations game. It's accompanied by a compelling, odd-looking game from NIS America. Meanwhile, DSiWare has poker, a vertical shmup, a puzzle game about racing, and a hidden object game about historical crime. See all the new downloads after the break. %Gallery-86440%

If you're in Europe and can somehow tear yourself away from Sin & Punishment: Successor of the Skies today (we're very jealous) you can play the very first Final Fantasy on Virtual Console. And ... Pub Darts! On DSiWare, the standout title is Rytmik, a music creation utility sort of like Korg DS-10, but downloadable. It's joined by another Breakout-style game (with a zen theme!), Nintendo/Arika's shmup Metal Torrent, and another Flips e-book. Final Fantasy (NES, 1 player, 600 Wii Points) Pub Darts (WiiWare, 1-4 players, 600 Wii Points) Rytmik (DSiWare, players, 800 DSi Points) Metal Torrent (DSiWare, 1 player, 500 DSi Points) Bounce & Break (DSiWare, 1 player, 500 DSi Points) Flips: Silent but Deadly (DSiWare, 1 player, 500 DSi Points)

The main highlight of the latest transmission from Fort Nintendo is that Bit.Trip Runner, the quirky rhythm-platformer from Aksys Games, is scheduled for release on WiiWare on May 17. Seriously, guys -- get on the hype train before it pulls out of the station. As for DSiWare, there's a whole bunch of games being released over the next few months, including Photo Dojo, X-Scape and Metal Torrent. Head past the break for the full list of whats and whens.

In celebration of the 1-year anniversary of DSiWare's North American launch, Nintendo has pieced together this video, featuring highlights of the still fairly sparse lineup for the service. The majority of the video, however, is devoted to games that haven't been released yet, including X-Scape, Photo Dojo and Metal Torrent. Many of these games were shown at the recent Nintendo Media Summit, which we assumed would be the first and last time we'd see them before release. We're quite taken aback by today's surprising promotion of upcoming DSiWare games!

Two DSiWare shooters were on show at Nintendo's Q1 Media Summit -- X-Scape (left) and Metal Torrent (right). Both hail from different dimensions (of gameplay and graphics). I played them both, and you'll find my impressions beyond the break.

There wasn't as much DSiWare stuff on display at Nintendo Media Summit as there was WiiWare, but Nintendo did announce three new games. Photo Dojo is Japan's Photo Fighter X, the bizarre two-player fighting game made out of your photographs. Metal Torrent, as you may have heard, is a localized version of Aa! Mujou Setsuna, a vertical shooter from Arika. X-Scape (above), fascinatingly, is a super-stylish first-person tank game from Q-Games, a sequel to the vintage Game Boy game X. You can see screens and video of all of them after the break. %Gallery-86442%
