So, two Virtual Console games this week. Careful Nintendo, you might pull something. We saw classic shoot-em-up Gradius hit the eShop earlier this month, and following it up this week is spin-off Salamander, or Life Force as it's known in our part of the world. That's on the 3DS, while the Wii U gets explosive-hungry NES-former Mighty Bomb Jack. That's it, except for sales: Shin Megami Tensei 4 is down to $30 between January 27 and February 3, while you have until February 6 to grab Fractured Soul for $6.

An unexpected blast from the past hits the Wii U Virtual Console on Thursday in the form of NES cult classic Mighty Bomb Jack. Originally based on an arcade game of the same title, Mighty Bomb Jack is a relatively standard NES-era platformer. The game's protagonist uses the titular bombs as his main weapon, but most of the game focuses on precise jumping, seeking hidden treasure and that particular brand of video game weirdness you only see in Japanese games translated to English during the late 1980s. Nintendo did not announce Mighty Bomb Jack's upcoming re-release, leaving it instead for fans to find on the Virtual Console. As a result, we can't say for certain what price will be attached to the game, though if it falls in line with most other Virtual Console NES releases Mighty Bomb Jack should feature a $5 price tag.

Tecmo Koei hits up its back catalog for this week's release of Tecmo Game Pack, a retro gaming compilation available for Android devices via Google Play. Tecmo Game Pack includes the original arcade version of Tecmo's action-puzzler Solomon's Key, along with the sadistically difficult NES platformer, Mighty Bomb Jack, and the Japan-only, Famicom sumo wrestling sim, Tsuppari Oozumou. All games feature touchscreen controls and offer unlockable bonuses such as arcade flyers and promotional artwork.

Looking at the Virtual Console releases has taught us one thing: if violent games really did create violent people, we'd all be fighting in the streets. The VC is packed with shooters and brawlers, but hey, that's how we roll, retro style. Not that we don't appreciate platformers, puzzles, and RPGs, mind you. We just really like anything with "up" in the description. We're not picky when it comes to choosing between beating 'em up, or shooting 'em up.This week's batch: Battle Lode Runner -- TurboGrafx -- 600 Wii points Final Fight -- SNES -- 800 Wii points Mighty Bomb Jack -- NES -- 500 Wii points
