Waiting on Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze for a fresh reason to turn your Wii U on? We hear you, but several indie studios have banded together to offer the Super Indie Connection Sale, a deal on eShop titles you might have missed from the past year. From now until February 13, anyone that owns Spin The bottle: Bumpie's Party, Runner 2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien, Giana Sisters: Twisted Dream, Toki Tori 2 or Mighty Switch Force! may purchase any of the other titles for 60 percent off. It's generally a good deal to get 60 percent off of anything, but buying Spin the Bottle would be especially smart given that its price will gradually rise as more content is added. Toki Tori 2 developer Two Tribes also cited the game's low sales among reasons to recently cease development efforts, so this sale is a chance to reward their efforts for cheap. On a more general note, with Mario Kart 8 planned for May, the Super Indie Connection Sale is a great way to plan for March and April. [Image: WayForward]

Mighty Switch Force 2 will follow its predecessor's example and be ported from the 3DS eShop to the Wii U eShop, WayForward Creative Director Matt Bozon revealed in a tweet last week. Bozon's tweet noted that the game is "estimated to arrive in October." The original Mighty Switch Force was ported from the 3DS eShop to the Wii U eShop last year as Mighty Switch Force Hyper Drive Edition. The port featured reworked visual assets and Hyper Stages that were not included in the original 3DS version.

The latest episode of Destructoid's Sup, Holmes? interview show was the venue for the surprise announcement of a sequel to WayForward's Mighty Switch Force. Director Austin Ivansmith told host Jonathan Holmes that Mighty Switch Force 2 will be released on 3DS "in the next few months." Officer Patricia Wagon is returning, but leaving her policework behind for "a surprise career change."Ivansmith also revealed that Mighty Switch Force was originally conceived as a sequel to the DS/PSP's Mighty Flip Champs. Trying to build the screen-flipping mechanics into a single-screen game led to enough changes that it became its own thing. "The Mighty series itself is almost a joke," Ivansmith noted, as none of the games in the series really have anything to do with one another.

WayForward's Mighty Switch Force is making the mighty switch to Wii U, according to the latest issue of Nintendo Power (preview here). Mighty Switch Force HD is the same game released on 3DS – with the bonus levels added in a recent update – but remade and redrawn in high resolution for the Wii U's HD output. The WiiPad will be used to display the location of each of the fugitives you're hunting down, just as the touchscreen does on the 3DS version. "When roaming without a TV," WayForward creative director Matt Bozon told Nintendo Power, "a smaller onscreen compass points the way. While this is admittedly not a groundbreaking use of the second screen, it does give the player a few very handy options."Here it is: the very first 3DS to Wii U remake. We expect to see plenty of these in the future.

If you've got Mighty Switch Force, go download it again from the eShop later today. WayForward is updating it to a "New Edition" featuring the vocal stylings of a young Bobby Brown. Actually, it features five new levels, upgraded 3D effects, and a "retry" button. If you'd like to buy something else while you're on the eShop, the Game Boy Game & Watch Gallery 2 is on the shop today, as is the DSiWare game Snakenoid Deluxe, which is, of course, Snake plus Arkanoid. And this Friday, you can get a Madagascar 3 trailer on Nintendo Video, to bring Chris Rock's voice with you everywhere. And on Wii this week: nothing.

Did you know that you can download handheld games now? That's amazingly convenient! The only inconvenient part of it is finding the right games to buy -- and that's where we come in, with our Portabliss column. In each installment, we'll tell you about a downloadable game on the iPhone, iPad, Android device, DSi, 3DS, PSP, etc. Today: Mighty Switch Force! WayForward's Mighty Switch Force masquerades as a run-and-gun shooter, but the eShop game is basically a puzzle game, albeit one of the few puzzle games I can think of that's reflex-heavy enough to encourage speedrunning. That emphasis on speed allows a game with a relatively small set of levels to become a long-term pastime.%Gallery-142339%

Sure, you can download Tetris just about anywhere these days, but you couldn't download Game Boy Tetris. Today, the Game Boy's killer app arrives on the 3DS eShop, nostalgic music and all. It's accompanied by a much less familiar game: WayForward's brand new Mighty Switch Force. So, it's kind of an excellent day for the eShop! Meanwhile, amateur chiptuners can try out a new music program on DSiWare designed for arranging retro-style music.%Gallery-142339% Update: Despite not mentioning it this morning, Nintendo also released the drawing/messaging app Swapnote for 3DS. That's free on the eShop right now!

Nintendo dropped its Q1 lineup on us this morning, offering highlights like the inexplicably GameStop-exclusive Circle Pad Pro and the best news of the year. But there's a lot more in the lineup than those two items -- for example, we now have a specific release date for Masahiro Sakurai's 3DS Kid Icarus: Uprising: March 23. On the 3DS eShop, Nicalis's ports of indie hits VVVVVV and NightSky are scheduled for eShop sometime in Q1, as is WayForward's Mighty Switch Force, a port of Zen Pinball, and Mutant Mudds. Nintendo will bring Kirby's Block Ball to the Virtual Console in the quarter as well. Mario Party 9 will launch on Wii March 11, preceded on February 27 by PokePark 2: Wonders Beyond. The only listed WiiWare title is, again, from Nicalis: La-Mulana sometime in the quarter. The DS lineup is ... light, with only the February release of Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 really worth mentioning. But you can see the full list of announced releases on all three platforms, after the break.%Gallery-141688%
