Another year, another update to Miglia's TVMini. This iteration, which honestly looks no different than past versions, does precisely what you'd expect and little more. The "Mac-only" TVMini HD Express boasts a built-in ATSC tuner and gets all the power it needs from a spare USB 2.0 port. You'll get the obligatory watch / pause / rewind functionality and the outfit's own The Tube software with an integrated EPG and a one-click solution for exporting programming to iPods. Granted, this critter isn't nearly as road-friendly as those USB tuners, but if you're just totally seduced by those sexy curves, you can hand over your $99 and stop drooling.

About a week ago, we posted about the budget Equinux digital TV tuner. Now Miglia joins the low-end price club having announced its TVMini Express. Like Equinux, this USB unit provides over-the-air digital TV tuning and costs only $69 (£40, €50) while the Equinux, to compare, costs €40. You get a tuner, a portable antenna, a USB 2.0 cable to connect to the computer and a CD-ROM with "software"--until recently, Miglia shipped EyeTV with their tuners but as we recently posted, they did not renew their EyeTV license. The TVMini Express should be available for purchase towards the end of this month.

Miglia is aiming their new Mac Mini shaped TVMax+ squarely at the "missing link" between standard definition broadcast television and the Apple TV (and iPod). They are calling it a "content collection hub" ; the TVMax+ features a SD television tuner together with a hardware encoder that supports MPEG-2, MPEG-4, and DivX allowing it to be used (via USB 2.0) with less powerful machines than products that depend on the host machine for encoding. This should allow the TVMax+ to produce recordings that can be streamed to the forthcoming Apple TV.Given Miglia's recent loss of an EyeTV license (which we previously mentioned), I was curious to see what software they planned to use, but that remains unclear. There is a screencap of a "MigliaTV" controller widget, however, along with announced support for both the TitanTV and tvtv electronic programing guides, so it looks like Miglia is trying to roll their own solution. The TVMax+ is $199 and requires at least a G4/500 or any Intel processor[Via MacNN]

  • Miglia TVMini HD+ delivers HDTV DVR functionality to Macs

Sure, there's more than a few ways to get HDTV and PVR technology over on the Mac side of life, but Miglia is giving us one more alternative by updating its MiniHD to deliver tuning / PVR functions to your Mac over USB 2.0. Apparently the company isn't worried about the ole Apple TV stealing all the thunder, and most notably due to its missing tuner, we don't think it will either. The MiniHD+ doesn't seem to outdo its predecessor in most areas, as it still tunes into ATSC, ClearQAM, and OTA broadcasts, and pumps the data to your Mac via USB 2.0. This portable gizmo provides the usual pause, rewind, and scheduling functions you'd expect on a PVR, but it also reportedly allows you to "consult an integrated electronic programming guide to locate shows and edit recorded clips to remove advertisements." Aside from supporting DVD burning, it also features "exclusive 10-bit video and stereo sound," a wireless remote, composite / S-Video outputs, stereo inputs, EyeTV 2 software. So if you're more interested in watching television than downloaded content and movie trailers, you can pick this up for your Mac next month for a currently undisclosed price.

Miglia is on the Mac-friendly TV tuner warpath again, busting out yet another option to add PVR functionality to your shiny new MacBook Pro. The TVDuo is aimed squarely at our UK allies as it sports dual DVB-T tuners, a very portable 3.9- x 2.7- x 1.11-inch enclosure, and USB 2.0 connectivity. Elgato's EyeTV 2 software comes bundled in, and enables recording / editing functionality, a nifty "export to iPod" option, and even plays nice with iDVD. The device also comes partnered with a ho hum remote and two "mini antennas" that can operate in diversity mode. No word, however, on eventual pricing nor when the TVDuo will hit store shelves. Peripherals manufacturer Miglia has just announced a new external analog TV tuner for the Mac mini, but because they'd already used the name TVMini on another line of products, they decided to confuse us and call this mini-shaped tuner the TVMax. Naming schemes aside, this model -- which adopts the same form factor as several mini hubs that we've seen -- seems to offer everything a TV junkie could want in a external tuner, including MPEG-2/4 and DivX hardware compression, PVR capabilities via the bundled EyeTV 2 software, direct iPod or PSP export, and of course, the obligatory electronic program guide, which in this case is the excellent TitanTV. You also get the standard set of A/V inputs for recording from camcorders or VCRs, as well as a wireless remote to free you from clicking around to change channels, all for $250 and available immediately.[Via Mac Observer]
