Mike Tyson is known for his years as a professional boxer slash professional ear-biter, so you can imagine our surprise when THQ announced this morning that he's appearing in upcoming wrestler WWE '13. Tyson's reprising his role from 1998 as a "ringside enforcer" for D-Generation X. He's also a playable character, though, ya know, he's totally not a wrestler."The baddest man on the planet is back – and only in WWE '13," Tyson said in the press release, totally of his own volition and not written by someone else. "Fans everywhere can now relive what I experienced during the 'Attitude Era.'"Only pre-orders of WWE '13 get access to Tyson as a playable character. The game launches on October 30 on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii.%Gallery-158593%

  • Building apps for big celebrities

Brothers John and Sam Shahidi are living the classic American dream. The pair developed RunPee, a small iPhone application that lets you find the right time to take a bathroom break during a movie. The app became so popular that the brothers founded a startup company called RockLive. They used their experience with RunPee to help sports celebrities develop their own iOS applications and social presence. Their first client was Chad Ochocinco of the Cincinnati Bengals and they recently signed Mike Tyson. The brothers developed a free game, Mike Tyson Main Event, that's been downloaded almost one million times. During this time, RockLive has grown from two to 22 employees. The California company is still expanding and looking to attract clients outside the sports realm. So who is on their radar? Musicians, celebrity chefs and stay-at-home Moms, of course.

For those of you wishing to recreate the ear-biting banality that is a boxing match between Mike Tyson (please don't hurt us!) and Evander Holyfield (the poor guy!), EA Sports is enabling just such a possibility with this week's DLC for Fight Night Round 4. Titled "Rivalries," it'll be adding three new fighters as well as some new game modes. The DLC's trailer (found after the break) details all the new additions, as well as giving us our first in-action look at the new fighters. We'll be re-imagining Holyfield's fateful fight with Tyson getting pummeled into the ground when the DLC arrives on December 3 – call it virtual retribution. %Gallery-78856%

First things first: Mike Tyson, where's your face tattoo?! Second: We've got a load of new screens from semi-perennial pugilist Fight Night Round 4, presented in a gallery just a few inches down. Do the shots look good? Just as good as when we saw the game in action earlier this month. With Fight Night Round 4 still months away from any formal release (the game's slated to come out swinging "this summer"), we suggest you check out the trailer in the meantime. Hopefully we'll have some hands-on impressions for you sometime in the near future.%Gallery-47652%

  • Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson cover Fight Night Round 4

There will be plenty of butterfly floating and bee stinging in the ring this summer, as EA announced that Muhammad Ali will be one of two cover athletes for Fight Night Round 4. The boxing legend will share the space with powerhouse and controversy magnet Mike Tyson. We just hope Ali knows to duck out of the way should Tyson's eyes flash red before schooling "Iron Mike" in a lesson of sweet science. Both will be playable in the upcoming title, which is currently in development at EA Canada. Also, eager players who lay down a pre-order for Fight Night Round 4 at GameStop will net early access to the game's demo, giving them some extra time to live out pugilistic dreams before the rest of the world laces up.

  • Born for Wii: Punch-Out!!

Sometimes you just have a bad day. It happens to the best of us; even video game bloggers are not infallible. And after a rage-inducing, hair-pulling bad day, you can go home, curl up in a ball and listen to The Wallflowers in surrender, or vent some of that anger. By punching people. But hold up there, tiger. You can't punch real people. That's, like, illegal. Enter the Wii: the best simulation for punching people outside of the real thing. Unfortunately, Wii Sports Boxing does not offer the realistic experience of mashing in someone's face Stallone style. Worse, no other boxing game since the Wii's release has really delivered a solid boxing experience. That could change in the near future with Facebreaker K.O. Party, forcing me to eat my words like a knuckle sandwich from Rocky Marciano. But if its Xbox/PS3 counterpart is any indication, there's not much chance of that. The same goes for Don King Prizefighter. This shaky reliability just won't do. We need Punch-Out!! #ninbutton { border-style: solid; border-color: #000; border-width: 2px; background-color: #BBB; color: #000; text-decoration: none; width: 100px; text-align: center; padding: 2px 2px 2px 2px; margin: 2px 2px 2px 2px; } .buttontext { color: #000; text-decoration: none; font: bold 14pt Helvetica; } #ninbutton:hover { text-decoration: none; color: #BBB; background-color: #000; } NEXT >> %Gallery-31971% Every week, Born for Wii digs into gaming's sordid past to unearth a new treasure fit for revival on the Nintendo Wii. • Punch-Out!!, bongo style

While we're sure that nobody is going to trash Soda Pop while using the Donkey Konga bongo controller in Punch-Out!!, it's good enough to take down Glass Joe with ease. And, it's a neat way to enjoy one of the best 8-bit games around. Just, uh, skip like the first minute of the video. It's kind of painful to watch.[Via Joystiq]

  • Defy logic and play Punch-Out! with bongos

As big of a kick as we get out of mods and hacks that make our favorite games more fun or accessible, we have to admit that we have a special place in our hearts for mods like the ones we're talking about today, mods that stand on the precipice of madness, laugh into the face of the torrential downpour of skepticism and dare man or God to find some purpose for their very existence. Why would you want to play Mike Tyson's Punch-Out! with the GameCube bongo drums? You wouldn't, that's why. So why even take the time to do it instead of putting your time to more fruitful pursuits? Because it was there, of course. Because it was there.[Via Eegra]

  • Spotting celebs with the iPhone

Obama and Lindsay Lohan are far from the only people rocking the iPhone lately -- a new site called "Coolspotters" claims to track brands and the celebrities that use them, and the iPhone is pretty cool lately. 32 celebrities have been spotted -- everyone from Mike Tyson to Heidi Klum to Rose McGowan (pictured, though that really could be anyone, couldn't it?). In fact, the Apple iPhone is actually the most popular product on the site right now -- one spot above something called the Omnipeace t-shirt (yes, but does it have a multitouch screen?), and two spots above the MacBook Air.Because everyone knows you need a site to tell you that what you own is cool, right? Of course, they are cheating a little bit -- I don't think the fact that Steve Jobs is using something necessarily makes it cool. Otherwise, we'd all have seen celebs toting around Newtons.Still, if seeing celebs use the same product you have is your thing, the iPhone's got you covered there, too. Can't say it influenced my purchase much, but good to see that the rich and famous are catching on to what's been TUAW's favorite tech-cessory for a while.[via Kottke]

  • EA announces Fight Night Round 4 (with Mike Tyson!)

var digg_url = 'http://digg.com/gaming_news/Fight_Night_Round_4_ANNOUNCED_Mike_Tyson_baby'; It's been two years since the last Fight Night game was released, which is practically eons ago in the annualized sports game world. But EA announced this afternoon that fans need wait no longer as Fight Night will return for "Round 4" at some point next year on Xbox 360 and PS3.There are few details at this point, other than what you'd expect (new gameplay engine, new physics, etc.). Perhaps most exciting is that Mike Tyson will appear in the game, more than a decade after both his last video game appearance and his last brush with relevance.

  • Crochet-Out!! with Little Mac and Mike Tyson

We can't help but love Little Mac, the quintessential underdog. If seeing him on your virtual console isn't enough, though, how about seeing him around your neck in the winter? You may have also noticed that this scarf has Mike Tyson's big mug on it, so you won't have to settle for Mr. Dream. Realistically, we know you won't buy this -- after all, the scarf is a whopping $175 on Etsy. Still, we admire the craftsmanship that went into Beatboxtaun's crocheting, and we hope you do, too. We only wish we had such skills ourselves, so that we didn't have to drool over these kinds of things on Etsy all the time.In our opinion, this definitely beats out the Punch-Out mat for the best craft featuring Little Mac (that we know of).[Via Technabob]

  • Today's most high-pitched video: Mike Tyson's Brunch Out

Okay, we weren't actually eating brunch when we saw this, but there was food in our mouths which we promptly spit up all over Joystiq HQ. Why? Because this is some funny stuff. While we aren't promoting violence in any fashion (except maybe cartoon violence), nor are we stereotyping Mike Tyson as some sort of crazy punching-machine, this did make us laugh.Animator Dan Meth's "The Meth Minute" is chock full of some great animation, and the voiceover work is top-notch as well. Check out this retro video in all its hilarity, but make sure you aren't eating while you do it.

  • Today's most retro ad: Japanese Punch-Out!! commercial

Let's try to follow our logic: in Rocky IV, Sylvester Stallone took on Ivan Drago, the Soviet Sensation, and his victory was implicitly a victory for the United States of America. It's a US holiday. Therefore, watching a Japanese commercial for Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! is patriotic.Got that? Really? We're not sure how, it makes no sense. Anyways, video embedded after the break.
