From Kraftwek and Michael Jackson to Nine Inch Nails and Dr. Dre, the Minimoog has spanned musical genres and decades. Released in 1970, it was one of the first synthesizers to include a keyboard. It gave musicians the ability to step up to the instrument and start composing instead of figuring out the complex world of modular synths. Sadly, Moog (rhymes with vogue) ended production of the Minimoog Model D in 1981.

After suspending production for over 30 years on its classic Minimoog Model D analog synth, Moog has announced the instrument is back. The company had a small pilot production workshop at Moogfest in May, but now Model D production has kicked into high gear. However, just like other Moog synthesizers, all of the instruments are made in a small Asheville, North Carolina factory, so the company can only crank out a limited number of them each month. If you're looking to snag one though, it'll set you back $3,749 from an authorized dealer.

When Moogfest kicked off in North Carolina this week, the company announced that the iconic Minimoog Model D was going back into production during the festival. What's more, the analog synths are being assembled on-site at the event right in the middle of a temporary Moog store that's chock full of audio gear. Being the curious folks that we are, we went to check it out the process inside the pop-up factory and watched a little bit of the magic happen in Durham.

Did you think that Tesla was done with surprises this year after name-dropping the Model 3? Far from it. The company's Elon Musk has just teased the unveiling of what looks like another vehicle, the "D," on October 9th. There will also be "something else" in store, he says. Just what either of those entail is still a mystery, although Musk has previously hinted that the third generation of Teslas would involve both the long-expected "budget" sedan and an SUV smaller than the Model X. There's a real possibility that you'll hear about one or both of those EVs in a week's time. Update: According to Musk, the interesting wording of his original tweet was unintentional, but interestingly he closed saying "Glad I didn't mention the other letter!"
