	Sporting an external battery pack on your iPod Touch or iPhone? If it happens to be from Mophie or Best Buy's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/rocketfish/">Rocketfish</a> brand, we'd advise you to take note and avoid getting burned. Rocketfish's <font face="Arial,Helvetica,Geneva,Swiss,SunSans-Regular" size="2">RF-KL12</font> battery case for the iPhone 3G / 3GS has been reported in a small number of burn and "minor" fire incidents, while Mophie's announced that a select number of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/juice%20pack%20air">Juice Pack Air </a>models for the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/iPod+Touch+4th+generation/">4th generation iPod Touch</a> (seen above) are at risk for overheating, and potentially even melting. Suffice it to say, if you're currently in possession of said battery extenders you should stop using it immediately. Best Buy asks that owners of the Rocketfish case get in touch to facilitate a return, which will be met with a $70 gift card in the US ($105 in Canada) as compensation. As for Mophie? If your Juice Pack Air is among the affected serial numbers, you'll be able to initiate a swap for a fresh unit via a return form on its website. Hit those source links below for all the details -- this is one case where you definitely won't want to <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/06/29/the-elliptical-machine-office-desk-putting-the-commute-back-i/">feel the burn</a>.</div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/02/psa-mophie-and-best-buy-issue-seperate-idevice-battery-pack-rec/">PSA: Mophie and Best Buy issue separate iDevice battery pack recalls due to overheating concerns</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 02 Dec 2011 14:34:00 EST. It's been just over a week since Mophie quietly intro'd <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/04/mophie-cuts-the-price-on-the-juice-pack-boost-and-powerstation/">updated Juice Packs</a> at IFA, and now -- as we've reacquainted with our offices -- the company's given us a sneak peek at its Juice Pack Plus Outdoor Edition. Aside from a special olive drab and orange colorway, the charging case itself is your standard $100 <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/19/mophie-juice-pack-plus-iphone-charging-case-now-verizon-friendly/">iPhone 4 Juice Pack Plus</a>. So what's the big deal, you ask? This Pack's bundled with Mophie's Outdoor Navigation app (a collaboration with NeoTrecks) positioning itself as an alternative to pricier handheld<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/07/16/magellan-busts-out-510-610-and-710-explorist-outdoor-gps-for-al/"> GPS</a> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/31/garmin-announces-redesigned-line-of-etrex-gps-handhelds-with-enh/">units</a>. Purchased separately, said app's slated to sell for $30 along with optional desktop access priced at $20 annually, while you'll get the software and that first year included out of box with the OE.<br />
<br />
The app works using your iPhone's GPS to provide highly detailed maps and a robust suite of options to get you where you're going, even if you're offline for most of the US -- sorry, Alaska. We checked out an early build of the software showcasing its three modes for tracking, downloading new maps, and a library you can check back on. The maps feature hand-shaded topography for extra clarity and a unique "grid-mode" for downloading new sections, although it appears you'll be stuck there while you wait for it to finish. The software also pulls up points of interests and you'll be able to track your trips, allowing you to then view your statistics or even share the details over the web. Mophie's expecting to have these available sometime in October with full details forthcoming, but in the meantime, there's a brief demo on how it'll help you navigate your local trail past the break. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mophie-juice-pack-plus-outdoor-edition-hands-on/">Mophie Juice Pack Plus Outdoor Edition hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mophie-juice-pack-plus-outdoor-edition-hands-on/#4426568"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/dsc0002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mophie-juice-pack-plus-outdoor-edition-hands-on/#4426569"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/dsc0005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mophie-juice-pack-plus-outdoor-edition-hands-on/#4426570"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/dsc0006_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mophie-juice-pack-plus-outdoor-edition-hands-on/#4426571"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/dsc0007_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mophie-juice-pack-plus-outdoor-edition-hands-on/#4426572"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/09/dsc0008_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/14/mophie-intros-juice-pack-plus-outdoor-edition-for-adventure-lovi/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mophie intros Juice Pack Plus Outdoor Edition for adventure loving iPhone owners (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/09/14/mophie-intros-juice-pack-plus-outdoor-edition-for-adventure-lovi/">Mophie intros Juice Pack Plus Outdoor Edition for adventure loving iPhone owners (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 14 Sep 2011 16:37:00 EST. Most companies here at IFA figured if they were going to haul it all the way to Berlin, they might as well unveil their products on a stage -- you know, with some prepared remarks, a press release and maybe some disco music to get people pumped (okay, we haven't been subjected to <em>that</em> yet). But not Mophie. The company has a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/17/mophie-juice-pack-family-portrait-powerstation-reserve-boost/?keepThis=true&amp;TB_iframe=true&amp;height=555&amp;width=950">habit</a> of releasing its products quietly, demonstrating its unannounced wares in plain sight. That's how we happened upon the newest versions of its Juice Pack mobile chargers, the Boost, Powerstation and Reserve. Of the three, the latter got the biggest makeover, with a more compact shape and a pop-out USB connector that's attached to a plastic cable. As a result of that diet, though, it now has a battery capacity of 700mAh, not 1,000mAH, although its price is about to go up to $35 from $30. The good news is that Mophie lowered its prices for the other two, all while expanding the battery capacity. The Powerstation now has a 4,000mAh battery and costs $80 (down from $100) while the Boost is rated for 2,000mAh and costs $49.95 (a $10 price cut). In case you're interested in this sort of thing, we've got hands-on photos below, and Mophie says the lot will hit the Apple Store in about two weeks.<br />

	<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/12/vivitouch-haptic-tech-offers-range-of-feedback-aims-to-reinvent/"><img  src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2011/07/pulse0000.jpg" style="border-width: 0px; border-style: solid; margin: 4px;" /></a></div>
When a company touts a product as being as revolutionary as the leap from black &amp; white TV to color, it's either incredibly delusional or it has a damn good product on its hands. And judging by the buzz surrounding Artificial Muscle's ViviTouch tactile feedback technology and our own <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/05/mophie-pulse-haptic-game-grip-hands-on/">hands-on at CES</a>, we're inclined to believe its braggart rights. Taking the "one-buzz-fits-all" approach and chucking it in the bin of 'ye olde tech of yesteryear,' the electroactive polymer tech creates a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/26/kddi-haptic-smartphone-prototype-promises-up-to-seven-layers-of/">"spectrum of feeling"</a> in the 50 - 300Hz range that registers with a user's hand in five milliseconds. We know what you're thinking -- haptic minutiae is fine and all, but what about my battery life? Well, if the company's CEO is to be believed, the vibrating touch interface drains 70 percent less juice than rival implementations -- so it's still hoggy, but not quite as hungry. If you're looking to get a feel of your own for these sensational claims, you'll have to wait for the Mophie Pulse to make its way to fourth generation iPod touch's later this year. Buzzwordy presser after the break.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/12/vivitouch-haptic-tech-offers-range-of-feedback-aims-to-reinvent/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>ViviTouch haptic tech offers range of feedback, aims to reinvent the mobile gaming wheel</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/12/vivitouch-haptic-tech-offers-range-of-feedback-aims-to-reinvent/">ViviTouch haptic tech offers range of feedback, aims to reinvent the mobile gaming wheel</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 12 Jul 2011 17:58:00 EST. We know you've got questions, and if you're brave enough to ask the world for answers, here's the outlet to do so. This week's <a href="http://ask.engadget.com/">Ask Engadget</a> inquiry is coming to us from Chuck, who seems to be having an unusual level of difficulty getting his phone through an entire day on a single charge. If you're looking to send in an inquiry of your own, drop us a line at <strong><em>ask [at] engadget [dawt] com</em></strong>.<br />

		<em>"I have the HTC Evo, which has terrible battery life. I've gone through many steps, including rooting it and using SetCPU, however I'm still not getting as much out of it as I would like. I am looking to buy an extended battery, but after researching them I have found prices and reviews to be all over the map. What brand / model has the best results? Thanks!"</em></p>
</blockquote>
So, superphone users -- which USB battery pack serves you best? Feel free to toss out Evo-specific solutions, but universal ones could help the masses. And it feels good to help the masses.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/20/ask-engadget-best-extended-battery-for-power-hungry-smartphones/">Ask Engadget: best extended battery for power-hungry smartphones?</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 20 May 2011 22:38:00 EST. Until now, Verizon iPhone owners looking for the Mophie battery boost had three options: lugging around a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/19/mophie-juice-packs-for-iphone-4-ipad-en-route-to-apple-store/">Powerstation</a> plug-in, settling for the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/10/mophie-sneaks-out-new-juice-pack-air-with-verizon-and-atandt-iphon/">Juice Pack Air's</a> measly 1500mAh battery, or slipping into an ill-fitting <a href="http://Plus: http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/03/mophie-juice-pack-plus-more-than-doubles-iphone-4-battery-life/">Juice Pack Plus</a> AT&amp;T case -- an awkward fit, thanks to a slight difference in the handsets' button placement. That long national nightmare is finally over, however, now that the 2000mAh Juice Pack Plus is compatible with both carriers, giving users up to eight more hours of 3G talk time and a few extra millimeters of thickness for around $100. The rubberized charging case is available in black, cyan, magenta, yellow, and a limited edition purple, of which only 2,000 were made. Oooh,<em> exclusivity.</em><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/19/mophie-juice-pack-plus-iphone-charging-case-now-verizon-friendly/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mophie Juice Pack Plus iPhone charging case now Verizon-friendly</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/19/mophie-juice-pack-plus-iphone-charging-case-now-verizon-friendly/">Mophie Juice Pack Plus iPhone charging case now Verizon-friendly</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 19 May 2011 08:59:00 EST. The company's life-doubling <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/22/mophie-juice-pack-air-vs-mili-powerspring-4-review/">Juice Pack Air</a> has been ever-so-slightly reengineered to work with both AT&amp;T and Verizon iPhone 4 units, with initial shipments expected by the end of the month. At first it'll ship in black with silver accents, while soft-touch red and glossy white versions are scheduled for release shortly thereafter. Still $79.95, and still awfully hard to resist for 3G power users.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/10/mophie-sneaks-out-new-juice-pack-air-with-verizon-and-atandt-iphon/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mophie sneaks out new Juice Pack Air with Verizon and AT&amp;T iPhone 4 compatibility</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/02/10/mophie-sneaks-out-new-juice-pack-air-with-verizon-and-atandt-iphon/">Mophie sneaks out new Juice Pack Air with Verizon and AT&amp;T iPhone 4 compatibility</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 10 Feb 2011 02:25:00 EST. Today at <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/CES/">CES</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Mophie/">Mophie</a> showed off a prototype of its Pulse game grip for the 4th-generation iPod touch, which features battery-powered front-facing stereo speakers and haptic feedback by Reflex Technology. We spent some time using the Pulse and came away rather impressed. Game audio, music, and even the keyboard tick sound get translated into convincing pulses and vibrations. The iPod touch interfaces with the Pulse via the 3.5mm headphone jack, and a switch on the bottom left edge turns the haptic feedback on and off. As a bonus, the Pulse also offers full case protection. No word yet on availability or pricing, but you can check out the prototype in the gallery below.<br />

Fan of the original 1,500mAh Mophie Juice pack for the iPhone 4? Sure, we certainly were when <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/22/mophie-juice-pack-air-vs-mili-powerspring-4-review/">we reviewed it</a> a few months back. So let us introduce you to the new Mophie Juice Pack Plus featuring a bigger 2,000mAh battery that more than doubles the life of Apple's non-removable iPhone 4 battery. Unfortunately, the extra oomph bumps the price from $79.95 to $99.95 and adds another 1mm of bulk to the pack -- not that a minor size bump should matter too much when you're already strapping your svelte phone to a battery sled. It's available now in black with yellow, Engadget Mobile magenta, and classic Engadget cyan coming soon.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/03/mophie-juice-pack-plus-more-than-doubles-iphone-4-battery-life/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mophie Juice Pack Plus 'more than doubles' iPhone 4 battery life</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/03/mophie-juice-pack-plus-more-than-doubles-iphone-4-battery-life/">Mophie Juice Pack Plus 'more than doubles' iPhone 4 battery life</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 03 Dec 2010 04:43:00 EST. For extended trips away from an outlet (or "mains," for the British among us), the iPhone instills far less confidence than some of its rivals for two simple reasons: one, you can't carry a second battery even if you want to; and two, the ubiquitous, dime-a-dozen micro-USB cables that you find everywhere simply aren't going to do you any good in the event you want to jack in to your laptop's USB for a quick charge. Sure, your local Apple Store is happy to rob you blind of $20 for an extra iPod cable... but we digress.<br />
<br />
Naturally, the iPhone's ginormous accessory industry has come to the rescue in a pretty big way. Mophie's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/JuicePackAir/">Juice Pack Air</a> series (and products like it) are the most integrated solution: you trade in some of your phone's slimness and sexiness in exchange for a combination case and extended battery. Unless you're taking your phone to the backwoods and you don't plan to reemerge for a few days, it's theoretically going to have you covered -- you just need to be willing to carry around some extra girth. Another option, though, is to simply carry around an external battery pack. Doesn't sound very appealing at first, but consider the advantages: your iPhone still looks like an iPhone, you can use the designer case of your choosing, and if you're in a situation where you don't think you're going to need it, you just don't bring it with you. No muss, no fuss.<br />

That, of course, is where the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/24/mophie-introduces-external-juice-pack-batteries-for-iphone-ipod/">Juice Pack Boost</a> comes into play. Does it deliver on the promise? Let's find out.<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">We have some details for you on Mophie's upcoming <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/17/mophie-juice-pack-family-portrait-powerstation-reserve-boost/">Juice Pack Universal line</a>. Ready? Okay: available at the Apple Store sometime this month (and at Mophie's website now), all the new models, including Boost ($60), Reserve ($40) and Powerstation ($100), are compatible with all iPhone and iPod touch form factors, while the latter also throws iPad compatibility into the mix. Additionally, Reserve and Boost both feature one amp current (which, as the company points out, means they'll charge your device twice as fast as your standard 500 mAh charger), while Power Station boasts 2.1 amps. Not bad, eh? PR after the break.</div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/19/mophie-juice-packs-for-iphone-4-ipad-en-route-to-apple-store/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mophie Juice Packs for iPhone 4, iPad en route to Apple Store</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/10/19/mophie-juice-packs-for-iphone-4-ipad-en-route-to-apple-store/">Mophie Juice Packs for iPhone 4, iPad en route to Apple Store</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 19 Oct 2010 15:51:00 EST. If you're an iPhone owner then you've certainly heard of the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/juice%20pack%20air">Mophie Juice Pack</a>. It's emerged as the external battery pack of choice for any iPhone owner needing more untethered power than Apple can provide from its non-removable batteries. But what about all those feisty upstarts? Can they compete in terms of design, functionality, and price? Let's find out. We put two iPhone 4 external battery pack cases -- the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/02/mophie-juice-pack-air-coming-to-double-your-iphone-4-battery-ne/">Mophie Juice Pack Air</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/26/mili-powerspring-4-doubles-the-battery-life-of-your-iphone-4/">Mili PowerSpring 4</a> -- head to head to see how they perform. Both promise to double the iPhone 4's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/22/iphone-4-teardown-now-underway/">1420mAh li-poly</a> battery life without adding too much bulk. And surely the 1600mAh capacity Mili outlasts the 1500mAh Mophie, right? You'd be surprised.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mophie-juice-pack-air-vs-mili-powerspring-4-review/">Mophie Juice Pack Air vs. Mili PowerSpring 4 review</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mophie-juice-pack-air-vs-mili-powerspring-4-review/#3389480"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/mophie-vs-mili-iphone-4-case-dsc5098--engadget_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mophie-juice-pack-air-vs-mili-powerspring-4-review/#3389479"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/mophie-vs-mili-iphone-4-case-dsc5099--engadget_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mophie-juice-pack-air-vs-mili-powerspring-4-review/#3389478"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/mophie-vs-mili-iphone-4-case-dsc5100--engadget_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mophie-juice-pack-air-vs-mili-powerspring-4-review/#3389477"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/mophie-vs-mili-iphone-4-case-dsc5102--engadget_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mophie-juice-pack-air-vs-mili-powerspring-4-review/#3389476"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/mophie-vs-mili-iphone-4-case-dsc5103--engadget_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/22/mophie-juice-pack-air-vs-mili-powerspring-4-review/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mophie Juice Pack Air vs. Mili PowerSpring 4 review</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/22/mophie-juice-pack-air-vs-mili-powerspring-4-review/">Mophie Juice Pack Air vs. Mili PowerSpring 4 review</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 22 Sep 2010 11:33:00 EST. Mophie's had quite a few product announcements recently, from an <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/02/mophie-juice-pack-air-coming-to-double-your-iphone-4-battery-ne/">iPhone 4 case / battery pack</a> to a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/26/mophie-and-intuit-partner-to-create-complete-card-solution-for-i/">credit card solution with intuit</a>. Hot on the heels of this week's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/16/mophies-juice-pack-powerstation-is-smarter-than-you-think/">Juice Pack Powerstation</a> unveil, the company stopped by to give us a glimpse of their revised lineup. In addition to all the aforementioned, we also got to check out the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/24/mophie-introduces-external-juice-pack-batteries-for-iphone-ipod/">Reserve and Boost</a> that formally debuted back in June. We didn't get enough time to really put 'em through their battery charging paces, but we did get pictures -- hey, you're welcome. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mophie-juice-pack-family-portrait-powerstation-reserve-and-boost/">Mophie Juice Pack family portrait: Powerstation, Reserve, and Boost</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mophie-juice-pack-family-portrait-powerstation-reserve-and-boost/#3374845"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/mophie-family-hands-dsc0019-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mophie-juice-pack-family-portrait-powerstation-reserve-and-boost/#3374846"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/mophie-family-hands-dsc0020-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mophie-juice-pack-family-portrait-powerstation-reserve-and-boost/#3374847"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/mophie-family-hands-dsc0021-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mophie-juice-pack-family-portrait-powerstation-reserve-and-boost/#3374849"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/mophie-family-hands-dsc0022-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mophie-juice-pack-family-portrait-powerstation-reserve-and-boost/#3374851"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/mophie-family-hands-dsc0023-rm-eng_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/17/mophie-juice-pack-family-portrait-powerstation-reserve-boost/">Mophie Juice Pack family portrait: Powerstation, Reserve, Boost, and Air for iPhone 4</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 17 Sep 2010 16:23:00 EST. You're probably wondering why <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/Mophie/">Mophie</a> has apparently crafted a device that's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/19/mophie-juice-pack-air-hands-on-and-impressions/">not also a case</a>. Believe it or not, you actually aren't living in a parallel universe, and this is -- in fact -- the outfit's first product made compatible with <i>other</i> USB devices. The Juice Pack Powerstation is most obviously targeting heavy <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/iPad/">iPad</a> users, but the beastly battery pack is quite capable of rejuvenating your PND, PMP or smartphone provided you have the necessary cabling. Most interesting, however, is this unit's ability to automatically switch between desired mAh charges, including 500 mAh, 1A and 2.1A, while a standby toggle switch ensures no drainage when it's idle. There's also a USB pass-through so users can charge a device and the Powerstation simultaneously, and if you're interested, all 3600mAh can be yours starting today at $99.95.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/16/mophies-juice-pack-powerstation-is-smarter-than-you-think/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mophie's Juice Pack Powerstation is smarter than you think</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/16/mophies-juice-pack-powerstation-is-smarter-than-you-think/">Mophie's Juice Pack Powerstation is smarter than you think</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 16 Sep 2010 02:29:00 EST. Believe it or not, Mophie's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/JuicePack/">Juice Pack</a> pack is in its seventh generation of product development, with the latest '<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/19/mophie-juice-pack-air-hands-on-and-impressions/">Air</a>' supporting Apple's polarizing <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/iPhone4/">iPhone 4</a>. For those unaware, these cases nearly double the battery life of the phone they're wrapped around, and better still, it acts as protection against drops <i>and</i> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/06/24/apple-responds-over-iphone-4-reception-issues-youre-holding-th/">dropped calls</a>. So, you've been waiting for a Mophie Juice Pack for your iPhone 4? You're not alone. Well, we have word that it'll be available as soon as next week for $79. We even managed to get hands on with a prototype that looked and felt pretty tight considering the fact that it doubles the iPhone's non-removable battery. The Juice Pack Air features pass-through USB charging and sync with iTunes, an integrated 4 LED charge status, and a standby switch the shuts off the juice turning the appendage into a rather attractive (albeit, heavy with a 1500mAh capacity battery), soft-grip case. Now you know.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mophie-juice-pack-air-hands-on-pics/">Mophie Juice Pack Air hands-on pics</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mophie-juice-pack-air-hands-on-pics/#3325574"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/mophie-juice-pack-airdsc4383-engadget_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mophie-juice-pack-air-hands-on-pics/#3325576"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/mophie-juice-pack-airdsc4381-engadget_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mophie-juice-pack-air-hands-on-pics/#3325577"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/mophie-juice-pack-airdsc4379-engadget_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mophie-juice-pack-air-hands-on-pics/#3325578"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/mophie-juice-pack-airdsc4378-engadget_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mophie-juice-pack-air-hands-on-pics/#3325580"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/09/mophie-juice-pack-airdsc4377-engadget_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/02/mophie-juice-pack-air-coming-to-double-your-iphone-4-battery-ne/">Mophie Juice Pack Air: coming to double your iPhone 4 battery next week</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 02 Sep 2010 12:38:00 EST. Who knew that credit card processing would be the new hotness for smartphones? The <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/square,mobilepayment">Square mobile payment system</a> has been making waves by letting small businesses receive credit card payment directly on their smartphones. Now, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/mophie">mophie</a> and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/intuit">Intuit</a> are looking to get in on the same action with their Complete Card Solution for iPhone. It's a $179 package that includes both mophie's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/31/mophie-iphone-credit-card-reader-coming-to-a-ces-near-you/">card-swiping phone case</a> and the 3.0 version of Intuit's GoPayment app. After a quick application users are said to be approved (or, erm, declined) within 15 minutes and can immediately start accepting payments. Full details, including just how much users will be forking over in fees, after the break.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/26/mophie-and-intuit-partner-to-create-complete-card-solution-for-i/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mophie and Intuit partner to create Complete Card Solution for iPhone, try to make Square look square</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/08/26/mophie-and-intuit-partner-to-create-complete-card-solution-for-i/">Mophie and Intuit partner to create Complete Card Solution for iPhone, try to make Square look square</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 26 Aug 2010 03:00:00 EST. <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/mophie">Mophie</a>'s juice pack air external case added some much-needed longevity to our iPhone when we <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/19/mophie-juice-pack-air-hands-on-and-impressions/">tried it out last year</a>, but most of us on staff aren't particularly fond of making our gadgets even more chubby. If you are also not looking for a little more to love, mophie is introducing a line of external juice packs that pop into your device (courtesy of a retractable dock connector) to add a little extra life. Smallest will be the $40, 1,000mAh juice pack reserve, followed by the $60, 1,500mAh boost, both of which are compatible with the iPod and iPhone -- and also offer "super-bright" LED flashlights. Last but not least is the juice pack power station, which hasn't been given a price or specific mAh rating but is said to add in compatibility with the iPad. The first two are available now and, while it's a shame these things don't just offer a plain 'ol USB port as well for charging other devices, we suppose you can't have everything.<br />

You won't know it by the product's official name, but this is the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/20/flo-tv-for-iphone-proof-of-concept-caught-in-the-wild/">FLO TV appendage</a> for the iPhone that's been <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/06/flo-tv-and-mophie-team-up-to-bring-mobile-tv-to-your-iphone/">teased</a> since <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/20/flo-tv-for-iphone-proof-of-concept-caught-in-the-wild/">November last year</a>. Combining a mobile TV receiver with Mophie's juice pack, this is 2mm thicker and noticeably heavier than the normal external battery pack. You can see comparison shots in the gallery below -- the red and black units are samples of the new peripherals while the white one is the standard Mophie hardware. Alas, no working FLO TV demos were available, but we were told the iPhone UI should be one different from what the company <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/13/flo-tv-personal-television-now-on-sale-for-250-should-be-in-ce/">offers at present</a>. Reps kept mum on pricing, but they confirmed the juice pack TV should be arriving in the first half of 2010.<br />

If you'll recall, FLO TV showed off a proof-of-concept for getting its mobile TV service onto the iPhone back in<a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/20/flo-tv-for-iphone-proof-of-concept-caught-in-the-wild/"> November of last year</a>. At the time, it required a somewhat unwieldy attachment, which has now melted away with the inclusion of Mophie into the deal, who will integrate the FLO TV hardware into its popular <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/19/mophie-juice-pack-air-hands-on-and-impressions/">Juice Pack</a>. Both companies are pretty psyched about the synergy of having one device both receiving mobile TV and doing the consequently necessary battery life extension. You'll find their collective announcement after the break, and products can be expected in the first half of the year.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/06/flo-tv-and-mophie-team-up-to-bring-mobile-tv-to-your-iphone/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>FLO TV and Mophie team up to bring mobile TV to your iPhone</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/06/flo-tv-and-mophie-team-up-to-bring-mobile-tv-to-your-iphone/">FLO TV and Mophie team up to bring mobile TV to your iPhone</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 06 Jan 2010 14:36:00 EST. Positioned as a direct competitor to Jack Dorsey's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/01/square-iphone-payment-system-gets-itself-a-website-showcased-in/">Square iPhone Payment System</a>, Mophie's solution looks to be integrated into an iPhone case -- making it possible to keep the reader on permanently, albeit at a slight cost to your device's aesthetics. The decidedly <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/03/square-iphone-payment-system-turns-your-phone-into-credit-card-r/">cube-shaped</a> Square system has a less ergonomic design, but we suspect that the winner (if either of these two succeeds) will be primarily determined by the usability of the app and affordability of the service. Look out for more info to emerge at some point during the maelstrom that will be <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/30/engadget-the-official-blog-partner-of-ces-2010/">CES 2010</a>.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/31/mophie-iphone-credit-card-reader-coming-to-a-ces-near-you/">Mophie iPhone credit card reader coming to a CES near you</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 31 Dec 2009 04:19:00 EST. This whole global economic crisis, and its resulting massive loss of jobs got us thinking. We here at Engadget didn't want to stand helplessly by, announcing every new round of misery without giving anything back -- so we decided to take the opportunity to spread a little positivity. We'll be handing out a new gadget every day (except for weekends) to lucky readers until we run out of stuff or companies stop sending things. Today we've got two of <a href="http://www.mophie.com/products/juice-pack-air">mophie's Juice Pack Air</a> units, which <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2009/02/11/mophies-juice-pack-air-worlds-thinnest-iphone-3g-battery-ca/">promise</a> to provide lots of extra iPhone 3G runtime while doubling as a case. Read the rules below (no skimming -- we're omniscient and can tell when you've skimmed) and get commenting! Hooray for free stuff!<a href="http://www.radiusearphones.com/store/product.php?productid=16150&amp;cat=253&amp;page=1"><br /><br /></a><em>Major thanks to <a href="http://www.mophie.com/">mophie</a></em><em> for providing the gear!</em><br /><em><em><br /></em></em>The rules:<br />
<ul>
    <li><strong>Leave a comment below.</strong> Any comment will do, but if you want to share your proposal for "fixing" the world economy, that'd be sweet too.<br /></li>
    <li><strong>You may only enter this specific giveaway once.</strong> If you enter this giveaway more than once you'll be automatically disqualified, etc. (Yes, we have robots that thoroughly check to ensure fairness.)</li>
    <li><strong>If you enter more than once, only activate one comment.</strong> This is pretty self explanatory. Just be careful and you'll be fine.<strong><br /></strong></li>
    <li><strong>Contest is open to anyone in the 50 States, 18 or older! </strong>Sorry, we don't make this rule (we hate excluding anyone), so be mad at our lawyers and contest laws if you have to be mad.<br /></li>
    <li><strong>Winner will be chosen randomly.</strong> Two winners will receive one (1) mophie <a href="http://www.mophie.com/products/juice-pack-air">Juice Pack Air iPhone 3G case / battery extender</a> in Black. Approximate retail value is $79.95.<br /></li>
    <li>If you are chosen, you will be notified by email. Winners must respond within three days of the end of the contest. If you do not respond within that period, another winner will be chosen. </li>
    <li><strong>Entries can be submitted until Wednesday, May 27th, at 11:59PM ET. </strong>Good luck!</li>

Dropping a Benjamin on mophie's <a href="http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/12/09/mophies-iphone-3g-juice-pack-unboxed-and-tested-high-marks-all/">iPhone 3G Juice Pack</a> didn't seem too painful considering the alternative of possessing a brick after about four hours of 3G usage, but we get the feeling <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/iPodtouch2G/">iPod touch 2G</a> users are going to have a slightly more difficult time rationalizing this one. Launched today for $99.95, the Juice Pack for iPod touch 2G was specially crafted to hold Apple's latest touch, and it promises to practically double the amount of jam time by including a rechargeable Li-ion. The case / battery extender also sports a pass-through USB cable design, and the four light LED status indicator gives you visual cues on battery level. Specifically, mophie claims that this device adds up to 42 hours of audio playback or 7 hours of video playback, and if you've already decided to become an early adopter, you can head on over and get one shipped out today. Full release is past the break.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mophie-launches-99-95-juice-pack-for-ipod-touch-2g/">mophie launches $99.95 Juice Pack for iPod touch 2G</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mophie-launches-99-95-juice-pack-for-ipod-touch-2g/#1441291"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/03/mophie-juice-pack-ipod-touch-2g_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mophie-launches-99-95-juice-pack-for-ipod-touch-2g/#1441278"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/03/ipod-touch-2g-mophie-pack_5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mophie-launches-99-95-juice-pack-for-ipod-touch-2g/#1441277"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/03/ipod-touch-2g-mophie-pack_4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mophie-launches-99-95-juice-pack-for-ipod-touch-2g/#1441276"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/03/ipod-touch-2g-mophie-pack_3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/mophie-launches-99-95-juice-pack-for-ipod-touch-2g/#1441275"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/03/ipod-touch-2g-mophie-pack_2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/20/mophie-launches-99-95-juice-pack-for-ipod-touch-2g/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>mophie launches $99.95 Juice Pack for iPod touch 2G</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/peripherals/" rel="tag">Peripherals</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/03/20/mophie-launches-99-95-juice-pack-for-ipod-touch-2g/">mophie launches $99.95 Juice Pack for iPod touch 2G</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Fri, 20 Mar 2009 01:42:00 EST. Not one to rest on its laurels, the company has today introduced the new and improved version: Juice Pack Air. Contrary to popular belief, this actually isn't intended for Apple's MacBook Air (now <em>there's</em> an idea to capitalize on, mophie), but instead, it's the planet's thinnest external iPhone 3G battery / case. The device houses a rechargeable 1,200mAh battery that "virtually doubles the amount of time you have to rock, talk, surf, and send messages." Eager consumers can pre-order theirs now in black, purple or white, while patient souls can mellow out until they hit mophie's website and Apple stores everywhere this Spring. Curious to know if your Benjamin will be well spent on mophie's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/10/15/mophies-iphone-3g-juice-pack-ships-today-not-a-moment-too-soon/">iPhone 3G Juice Pack</a>? <em>TestFreaks</em> is out to make sure you have an accurate answer to that, and judging by their report after two solid weeks of usage, the response is an emphatic "yes." Not only was the device sleek enough to not be incredibly cumbersome, but it actually performed as advertised. Reviewers were able to get their iPhone 3G from near-death to fully charged (twice!) on a single mophie charge, leading them to conclude that it "basically doubles the run time of the iPhone 3G" in a worse case scenario. Granted, even they couldn't overlook the particularly large price tag, but if you've been running bone dry with any level of frequency, we suspect the asking price won't matter nearly as much.<br /><br />[Thanks, <a href="http://www.kristoferbrozio.com">Kristofer</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/peripherals/" rel="tag">Peripherals</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/misc/" rel="tag">Misc</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/apple/" rel="tag">Apple</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/09/mophies-iphone-3g-juice-pack-unboxed-and-tested-high-marks-all/">mophie's iPhone 3G Juice Pack unboxed and tested: high marks all around</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 09 Dec 2008 09:49:00 EST. Perhaps the only part of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/iPhone3G/">iPhone 3G</a> ownership more maddening than the non-removable battery is the fact that there's no hope of an internal extended pack ever materializing (at least, nothing even remotely official). That's where accessory maker mophie comes into play, announcing a new version of its Juice Pack that slides on back and alleges an additional 6 hours of data usage attached to a 3G network. It features an on-board charge indicator in the form of four LEDs and can pass a USB connection through to the iPhone 3G within, simultaneously charging both the Juice Pack and the handset. Like the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/07/01/hands-on-with-belkins-iphone-headphone-adapter/">headphone jack extenders</a> for the first-gen phones, this product seems like a necessary evil (albeit a well-designed one) for a good number of owners -- particularly considering how difficult it can be to get through an average day without the 3G model passing out from malnutrition. It'll be available this fall for a hundred bucks.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/apple/" rel="tag">Apple</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/accessories/" rel="tag">Accessories</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/08/10/mophie-tries-to-make-up-for-iphone-3gs-shortcomings-with-new-ju/">mophie tries to make up for iPhone 3G's shortcomings with new Juice Pack</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 10 Aug 2008 12:13:00 EST.
