IndieCade at E3: 7 Grand Steps
A group of alligators are stalking one area of the PC roundtable at IndieCade's E3 expo. They're tiny and plastic, and they're all over the laptop for 7 Grand Steps: What Ancients Begat, the first chapter in a new series from longtime indie developer Keith Nemitz, known as Mousechief. I stopped by Mousechief's table to talk about 7 Grand Steps, a board-game-inspired tale of ancient family drama and not getting eaten by alligators (you hope). Seven Grand Steps launched on Steam for PC and Mac on June 7, and it's already on track to bring in $100,000. So that's cool. Watch as Nemitz and I discuss the mechanics of a Sopranos story swathed in ancient garb, and the benefits of choosing to be evil. Later today I'll share the last eye-catching game I found at IndieCade's booth, caught on video – just as it captured my heart.
7 Grand Steps on its way to $100K in first week
Mousechief, the veteran indie developer responsible for Dangerous High School Girls in Trouble, launched the first part of his next series, 7 Grand Steps, on June 7. Less than one week later, it's on track to bring in $100,000, Keith Nemitz (Mousechief) told me at E3's IndieCade expo. Nemitz has been invited to one other IndieCade showing already, and he's been a finalist at GDC's Independent Games Festival three times over. Nemitz has been working on 7 Grand Steps for the past four years, and it was a finalist in this year's IGF. Seven Grand Steps is on sale for 10 percent off on Steam, $13.50, through June 14.
PSA: IGF finalist 7 Grand Steps now available
Independent Games Festival Nuovo award finalist 7 Grand Steps is now available for PC and Mac through both Steam and the developer's official website. Purchasing the game through Steam will net you a sweet 10-percent discount off the game's full price of $14.99 (provided you buy before June 14), whereas buying directly from Mousechief gets you a free digital copy of 7 Grand Steps' soundtrack. A free demo is also available, should the prospect of a multi-generational, lineage-based strategy game not instantly sound like the coolest.
IGF finalist 7 Grand Steps premieres for PC June 7
Dangerous High School Girls in Trouble! developer Mousechief announced that its Independent Games Festival Nuovo award finalist title 7 Grand Steps is set for release on June 7 for Windows and Mac. 7 Grand Steps is a board game-like strategy game in which players guide a family through multiple generations, tracing the roots of western civilization along the way. Depending on the choices players make, future generations may produce laborers, kings, or adventurers. Competing families battle for resources during each era, however, and players must plan carefully in order to advance their family's bloodline. Trial versions for PC and Mac are available at Mousechief's website.
Indie Royale celebrates Oktoberfest with six-game bundle
Indie Royale is back with a new Steam and Desura six-game bundle. The Oktoberfest bundle features Zoe Mode's Chime and all three episodes of Hector: Badge of Carnage by Telltale Games.Smudged Cat Games' The Adventures of Shuggy also makes an appearance in the bundle along with Dangerous High School Girls in Trouble and "story-driven interactive drama" The Witch's Yarn by Mousechief. The Network by AquaFox rounds out the bundle.Those that spend more than $8 on the bundle will also receive two chiptune albums by Savestates, "Calm Your Nerves" and "Chip unDeath." The Oktoberfest bundle is on sale now until Friday, October 5 for its usual "pay the minimum" price, which is currently $5.21.
