  • The Daily Grind: Would you buy a VR headset for MMOs?

Not that I have $500 or so to drop on an Oculus Rift when it comes out, but I must say that there's a part of me that would love to have one if more MMOs sign up to support it. Already we're seeing titles from Elder Scrolls Online to EVE Valkyrie lending support to this virtual reality headset, which makes me wonder whether this is just a fad or if it's the next big thing for gaming. After all, we've been down the VR headset road before, particularly in the '90s. I mean, that picture up there? That's Angela Lansbury from Murder She Wrote in 1993. I might also bring up the topic of Virtual Boy if it didn't depress me so much. Man, I really wanted VR to be real back then... but maybe its time is yet to come. Would you buy a VR headset for MMOs? If so, what would the cost need to be and what level of service would it need to supply to get you to go for it? Every morning, the Massively bloggers probe the minds of their readers with deep, thought-provoking questions about that most serious of topics: massively online gaming. We crave your opinions, so grab your caffeinated beverage of choice and chime in on today's Daily Grind!

It's all right, you can admit it now. Your favorite game of 2010 wasn't Red Dead Redemption. No, don't cry in shame -- you're not alone. Apparently Murder, She Wrote was a good game. Yes, really. They're even making a sequel. Right, now stop hugging us. Please, this is getting creepy. You still have a pretty strange taste in games; it just turns out you're not (forever) alone. Murder, She Wrote 2 will be available for download and in retail form in early 2012, Legacy Interactive announced. It also announced that the original Murder, She Wrote was a "best selling game," which, with the omission of a hyphen between "best" and "selling," negates the compound modifier and makes that statement completely defensible in grammar court. Someone, somewhere -- probably a person at Legacy Interactive HQ -- believes Murder, She Wrote was the "best" game that was also sold in 2010. We assume. Murder, She Wrote 2 will feature more than 80 puzzles, three original cases and at least six hours of gameplay with crime-fiction writer Jessica Fletcher and her classic band of sleuths and sheriffs. Now seriously, stop hugging us, or we're calling the police. No, Mrs. Fletcher won't be one of them.

Just thirteen years after the conclusion of the television show, Legacy Interactive has snapped up the hot Murder, She Wrote license for a PC game. The hidden-object game will feature five all-new mysteries, and will include both the classic Cabot Cave locale and "well-loved characters from the show" including Dr. Seth Hazlitt, Sheriff Mort Metzger, and, of course, crime-solving novelist and potential distant relative Jessica Fletcher.Slightly more timely is Legacy's announcement of PC and DS games based on the House M.D. license. In this game, players will control the members of Dr. House's diagnostic team, including House himself, in five different cases. According to Legacy, the game will involve diagnosing and treating patients with rare diseases. It is unknown whether this process will involve breaking into their houses, as it always does on the show.[Via Big Download]
