While this particular name may not sound very appealing to the average US customer, perhaps its other designation -- the T-Mobile myTouch Q -- will. Indeed, this is the 2012 iteration (the slide-out keyboard version, at least) of the carrier's annual series, and it sports quadband GSM / EDGE and 850 / AWS / 1900 / 2100 HSPA+. Most of the specs are already known: you can expect to find a 4-inch WVGA display, 1.4GHz MSM8255T chip with 1GB RAM and 4GB of onboard storage and room for microSD expansion. If you're a fan of the myTouch series -- or even hardware keyboards in general -- you likely won't have to wait too much longer.

T-Mobile myTouch Q makes its mark on the FCC originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 24 May 2012 12:59:00 EST. Of course, none of this is set in stone or even confirmed, so take it with a grain of salt.

Most interesting is a pair of dates for Ice Cream sandwich updates, with Magenta's Galaxy S II slated to receive Android 4.0 on May 14th, followed by the Sensation 4G and Amaze 4G getting ICS (with Sense 3.6, presumably) on June 16th.

A bunch of device launches from Samsung and Huawei round up the list of dates, with no sign of HTC's One X, Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S III, or T-Mobile's rumored Galaxy Note variant. Sadness. According to the label location diagrams, it plays nice with HSPA, UMTS, GPRS, GSM and Edge, but there's no indication of whether this Huawei U8680 is the QWERTY variant we spotted at the company's headquarters. If you'll recall, Huawei has this 4-inch (WVGA) device pegged to ship with Android Ice Cream Sandwich, running atop a 1.4GHz Qualcomm MSM8255T SoC with 1GB of RAM that's supplemented by 4GB of on-board storage. Of course, this doesn't leave us with any more information about when T-Mobile will officially debut this next-gen myTouch, but for now, you can can view the currently available FCC documents at the source link below.

Huawei Ascend G312 (U8680) lands at FCC, unsurprisingly sports T-Mobile myTouch moniker originally appeared on Engadget on Sun, 22 Apr 2012 01:21:00 EST. When we spotted this upcoming T-Mobile MyTouch slider, we just so happened to be chilling out at Huawei's headquarters in Shenzhen where the phone was displayed as the Ascend G312 QWERTY, or "Buddy" according to the "About phone" info ("MyTouch Buddy"?). We didn't see the non-QWERTY variant, but judging by the name, we don't doubt that there's also an Ascend G312 lurking somewhere.

Anyhow, this new MyTouch packs a 1.4GHz Qualcomm MSM8255T chip, a 4-inch WVGA screen, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of storage and microSD expansion, along with features like DLNA connectivity and five-second fast boot. As for image capturing you get a 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera plus a five-megapixel main camera (with 720p recording) on the back, and you'll find a handy camera button at the usual place as well. Interestingly, the spec sheet listed Ice Cream Sandwich while the demo unit was only running on Android 2.3.6, so we'll probably need to wait for T-Mobile's final say on this end.

During our quick hands-on we were pretty satisfied by the phone's overall build quality, especially with its spring-loaded sliding mechanism and keyboard feedback. The screen isn't the best in class when it comes to viewing angle and contrast, but bearing in mind that this phone comes with a Snapdragon S2 processor, we expect it to be priced almost as sensibly as LG's MyTouch handsets -- stay tuned for the official announcement, of course. Hands-on video after the break.

Gallery: T-Mobile's next MyTouch: Huawei Ascend G312 Qwerty hands-on

Continue reading T-Mobile's next MyTouch: Huawei Ascend G312 QWERTY hands-on

T-Mobile's next MyTouch: Huawei Ascend G312 QWERTY hands-on originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 28 Mar 2012 12:30:00 EST. Above and below are images grabbed by TmoNews that show off the non-QWERTY model, which are expected to come running on Android 2.3.6 and taking advantage of a WVGA display. While the two mid-range devices will be the next in line to bear the MyTouch name, they'll also be known as the U8680 and U8730 elsewhere. Now, if a report by PocketNow is to be believed, the next phone maker in line is the same one that brought you that T-Mobile Springboard. And, if we take into consideration Huawei's recent push towards the US market, it wouldn't surprise us to see T-Mo's future myTouch lineup coming from the Chinese outfit. Allegedly, the device(s) will come in two Gingerbread-packing flavors, one of which is said to be sporting physical QWERTY keys -- à la the 4G Slide. The deadline has passed for T-Mobile and Motorola to respond to Senator Al Franken's Carrier IQ questionnaire, and both companies' reports are in. We'll first tackle T-Mobile's letter: the carrier stated that it began installing CIQ last August, and nearly 450,000 Android and BlackBerry devices are infested with the IQ Agent software, which is used for individual troubleshooting cases and marketing purposes. This is a more moderate use than Sprint or AT&T, which both mentioned that it was actively pinging their CIQ-enabled phones to collect data on service and wireless performance on their networks. Nine T-Mobile devices in total contain the IQ Agent: the HTC Amaze 4G, Samsung Galaxy S II and Exhibit II 4G, LG MyTouch and MyTouchQ, LG DoublePlay and the BlackBerry 9900, 9810 and 9360. Motorola, meanwhile, admitted that CIQ is installed on four of its devices: the Admiral, Titanium, Bravo and Atrix 2. While this rounds up all of the companies that were asked by Senator Franken to respond, we're still anxious to see what kind of effect this will have. We've already witnessed one major change, as Sprint's agreed to disable the software on its phones, but who's next? Where do we go from here?
T-Mobile, Motorola respond to Senator Franken's Carrier IQ questions originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 21 Dec 2011 15:37:00 EST. We knew it was getting cold and dreary outside, but today at T-Mobile it's shiny and warm. The carrier has released several handsets today, including the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, HTC Radar 4G, myTouch and myTouchQ (online only until November 9th), LG DoublePlay, and the Samsung Exhibit II 4G. It's not too often we see six devices launch on the same day, but 'tis the season, right? If you've been eyeing any of these luscious gadgets for yourself or a loved one, it's high time to make the move.

T-Mobile unleashes HTC Radar 4G, Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, myTouchQ and more today originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 02 Nov 2011 15:38:00 EST. Magenta's taken to its Facebook wall to announce the availability of its latest LG-made, Android 2.3.4 phones: the 3.8-inch myTouch and 3.5-inch myTouch Q. Word of these handsets' existence leaked out via YouTube a few months back, but the carrier's since made both official. The duo will hit T-Mobile's site on November 2nd, each at a budget-pleasing $79.99 -- that's after a mail-in rebate on a two-year contract. But if you're the sort to pick up your wares in-store, then expect to see this pair on offer come November 9th. What'll you get for that sub-$100 price? Well, the devices run along the operator's 4G HSPA+ network and pack a single-core 1GHz Qualcomm processor, as well as front-facing / 5 megapixel rear cameras. The only thing setting these two apart is your predilection for a landscape QWERTY slider, in which case you'll want to snag the Q. So, if you've been waiting on T-Mo to roll this twosome out of the gate, consider tomorrow your lucky day.
LG myTouch, myTouch Q available on T-Mobile November 2nd for $79 originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 01 Nov 2011 11:44:00 EST. Not that they were a particularly well kept secret, but T-Mobile is finally ready to show off its two newest Android phones that are aimed at first-time smartphone buyers. The 4G-capable myTouch and myTouch Q are everything the leaks indicated, with the former sporting a 3.8-inch touch screen and the latter coming home with a 3.5-inch screen (no word on the display tech used in either one) and landscape sliding QWERTY keyboard. Both run Android 2.3 out of the box on a 1GHz Qualcomm CPU and 5MP / 720p cameras, with the myTouch throwing in a front facing shooter for your video conferencing enjoyment. Both will be available in two different color schemes "in time for the holiday season" -- check the press release after the break for the full rundown.
Continue reading T-Mobile officially unveils myTouch, MyTouch Q just in time for the holidays

T-Mobile officially unveils myTouch, MyTouch Q just in time for the holidays originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 06 Oct 2011 00:48:00 EST. Remember that pair of myTouch-branded LG phones that made a brief appearance on YouTube back in September? Well they're up on T-Mobile's site and listed as "coming soon." The myTouch and myTouch Q, in black and gray respectively, are sitting pretty with a pair of galleries showing of their sizable bezels and inoffensive (if bulky) curves. There are also some specs listed, but they're a tad suspect and may simply be a placeholder. In particular the Q being listed as having a QWERTY pad that is 92-percent the size of a laptop keyboard had us raising an eyebrow. Both are also listed as sporting 42Mbps 4G connections, which contradicts earlier leaks that pegged these handsets as mid-range 3G devices. For now, we'll just have to wait and see, but you can hit up the source links to take a gander for yourself.
LG myTouch phones listed as 'coming soon' to T-Mobile with suspect specs originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 04 Oct 2011 10:47:00 EST. T-Mobile's myTouch smartphones have -- until now -- been an exclusively HTC affair, but both of the phones captured here appear to be LG-made. Phandroid is reporting that a video posted briefly on T-Mo's official YouTube channel labelled this duo as the myTouch and myTouch Q by LG. We got wind of two new LG handsets headed to T-Mobile back in May, called the Maxx and Maxx Q, but there's no clear indication just yet that these are one and the same. The videos soon vanished from view, but the screen grab -- with a heavy sprinkling of render magic -- shows two phones that share a few similarities with the Optimus Sol, like a substantial chunk of bezel between the screen and the threesome of Android buttons. We're hoping both will share that eye-blistering AMOLED screen found on the Sol, but we're still waiting on more details to clarify exactly what LG's got cooking.
LG myTouch phones make brief YouTube appearance? originally appeared on Engadget on Sun, 18 Sep 2011 13:24:00 EST. Have you ever wanted a look inside the mind of a mobile handset designer? Of course you do, and so do we, for that matter. Donn Koh, lead designer of smartphones like Sprint's Evo 4G and T-Mobile's myTouch 4G as an employee of One&Co, <strike>has posted in-depth breakdowns of the design process on his personal website for our perusal</strike>. Check out the source for the full rundown -- especially if you enjoy well-designed, well thought out tech.

Update: At the request of Donn Koh, the design images that originally accompanied this post have been removed, and a note about his employment at One&Co during the design of these phones added. Sadly, the original posting is now password-protected, keeping the design process behind some of our favorite handsets under lock and key.

Update 2: Per Donn Koh's request, we listed One&Co as the source for this post and removed the content pertaining his comments on the design process. You can check out a bit about the HTC Case Study via the source link below.
T-Mobile myTouch 4G designer Donn Koh unveils the process, how he brings the heat originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 10 Aug 2011 04:19:00 EST. We've already seen it turn up in a few blurry shots, and seen it pictured a bit more clearly inside a case, but we now finally have our first good, unobstructed look at T-Mobile's still unannounced myTouch 4G Slide. What's more, the tipster that provided the shots to TmoNews also offered up a few quick impressions, saying that the keyboard was "amazing" and roughly comparable to the T-Mobile G2, and that the phone itself is "surprisingly fast" but a bit heavier than the G2. We didn't know it was possible, but Mr. Blurrycam just got out-Blurrycam'd. After getting some quality hands-on time with the FCC this week, the T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide had a brief photo shoot showing off a few of its assets. The images, provided by one of BGR's sources, give us a brief look at the device's keyboard and some of its software specs. The myTouch 4G Slide appears to be running Android 2.3.4 -- the same version of Gingerbread found on the Nexus S -- and the latest iteration of HTC Sense UI. This source also confirmed an 8 megapixel camera and teased that the phone runs "as smoothly as the HTC Sensation" and the screen "isn't much to write home about." We hear that the myTouch 4G Slide is penciled in for the first half of July, and looks to be a mighty fine QWERTY-slide option within T-Mobile's Android stable. Or, as good as one can look given the circumstances.
T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide gets pictured with Gingerbread, may debut next month originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 02 Jun 2011 18:36:00 EST. When LG's mighty G2x shipped with Froyo, it seemed like a paradoxical pairing to say the least. Of course, this news was softened by T-Mobile's announcement that its flagship phone would soon be transported to the land of Gingerbread, and we're now given a spicy preview. While this is by no means a final build, our friends at This is My Next have received LG's development copy of Android 2.3.3, and like you'd expect from any self-respecting techie, it's been installed and taken for a spin. In particular, scrolling and touch sensitivity were found to be significantly improved, with swipes to the screen responding as intended. In addition, the G2x scored better in the Quadrant test with the new OS version, jumping up more than 200 points. Whatever developers have sprinkled into this recipe sure is tasty.

If there's a T-Mobile myTouch 4G in your pocket, grab a fork and sit down for a Gingerbread sampling. Even though it's not quite fully baked, the folks at 911Sniper have released a development version which hints at what's to come. Most notably, users will appreciate a new Quick Settings tab that's accessible from the pull-down notification area, providing an easy way to control which of the phone's radios are active. While many report getting along just fine with this build, others are experiencing problems with WiFi and overall stability. You'll find the recipe for this dessert by following the source link, and we have a video of it coming our of the oven after the break.
Continue reading Android 2.3.3 leaks for G2x and myTouch 4G, gives us a taste of T-Mobile's Gingerbread future (video)

Android 2.3.3 leaks for G2x and myTouch 4G, gives us a taste of T-Mobile's Gingerbread future (video) originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 04 May 2011 21:45:00 EST.
Gingerbread may not be a very likely option, but T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide users can now get a dessert of another sort (albeit a slightly stale one), as the phone has finally received an update to Android 2.2 (a.k.a. Froyo). Unfortunately, there's apparently no over-the-air update planned, and the software required for the installation is Windows-only, so anyone with a Mac looking to upgrade will have to find a PC-using friend willing to help them out. If you're all set to go, however, you can download the update from HTC at the source link below.
It started as a leak on TmoNews earlier today, and T-Mobile's now made it official -- the carrier is bumping the prices of both the T-Mobile G2 and MyTouch 4G from $200 to $250 on a two-year contract (with no mail-in rebate). That, of course, follows the T-Mobile's little "mistake" last week with its pricing for the Samsung Galaxy S 4G, which was first listed at $150 before being changed to $200 a few days later. A number of other more inexpensive phones have also seen some minor prices changes -- hit up the link below for the complete rundown on those.
T-Mobile bumps myTouch 4G, G2 prices to $250 originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 23 Feb 2011 18:43:00 EST.
Good news for budding rock stars -- T-Mobile's other myTouch 3G device, the Fender Edition and myTouch 3G with the 3.5mm jack, are apparently slated to get their Android 2.2 update today. New features include a fully integrated Exchange client with calendar support, GAL (Global Address List) search, remote wipe, and enhanced security. Another tweak being offered is the contact Faves Gallery, a diddy which lets you browse your top 20 contacts to see all your texts, calls, emails and the like, and Gmail app enhancements including inline image viewing and colored labels. The original myTouch 3G was serviced way back in October of last year, so we'd wager that there are a pretty good collection of folks who'll benefit from this. So with that, we'll leave you all to the refreshing you invariably started by the time you hit the first few words in this post. Two video chats enter the ring, only one comes out. In this corner it's ooVoo Mobile, a portable version of the (somewhat) popular desktop video chat application that will let up to six users simultaneously swap bitrate over 3G, 4G, or WiFi -- but only if you have an HTC Evo or Samsung Epic. In the other corner it's Yahoo! Messenger, with version 1.3 adding video calls and similarly limited device support, though this time it's the myTouch 4G and the Evo getting the nod. So, Android owners, which of these is going to reign supreme? Or, are you going to tap out and stay cozy with Qik? Hit the Android Market now and place your bets.
Coming hot on the heels of the ultra-impressive G2, T-Mobile has returned to its myTouch series with the myTouch 4G. While the G2 is the natural enthusiast flagship, the 4G represents a flagship in its own right of a skinned, curated Android experience. If the G2 is the Droid 2 killer, T-Mobile probably sees the myTouch as the iPhone 4 killer (even the name has a similarity to the popular "iTouch" misnomer, and the 4G / 4 mirrors T-Mobile's matchy matchy naming sense with the myTouch 3G / iPhone 3G... we're just saying, is all). So, what does that mean in practice? Some impressive functionality inside and out, including a front facing camera for video calls, HSPA+ network speeds, and WiFi Calling. How does it all play out in the real world? Let's find out.
Orders have apparently gone live to existing customers for the myTouch 4G on T-Mobile -- a phone that officially becomes available this Wednesday, November 3rd -- proving once again that membership does indeed have its privileges. The phone's still showing as "Coming Soon" on the public T-Mobile site if you don't log in to your account, but that's not a new tactic; T-Mobile has offered its existing subscribers ordering perks on new devices for a long, long time, dating back at least to the original G1. Who's buying?
Ooh, Sprint's just going to love this. T-Mobile just announced the launch details for its latest HSDPA+ handset, with a November 3rd touchdown date (possibly to go along with new data plans?) and a $200 pricetag (after $50 mail-in rebate). But just to spice things up a little bit, T-Mobile also swapped names on the phone: what was previously known as the myTouch -- a back-to-basics follow-up to the original myTouch 3G and myTouch 3G Slide -- is now the myTouch 4G. In fact, it looks like T-Mobile has had this name for a little while, but was just waiting for the right moment to spring it on us. Wait, you didn't know HSPA+ was 4G? Ah, welcome to Sprint / Verizon / AT&T's branding nightmare.
Continue reading T-Mobile myTouch redubbed 'myTouch 4G,' landing on November 3rd

T-Mobile myTouch redubbed 'myTouch 4G,' landing on November 3rd originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 27 Oct 2010 18:58:00 EST. According to the convincingly worded internal memo, the new feature will let you tether over WiFi, Bluetooth or a physical USB cable at both 3G and HSPA+ speeds, though only on a $20 or higher unlimited data plan -- so if you've got just 200MB, you'll have to spend them on the small screen. The doc also says it's subject to T-Mobile's recent throttling efforts, so don't expect to enjoy HSPA+ on your tethered tablet for long: "Customers who purchase a T-Mobile mobile broadband product like the upcoming Galaxy Tab should activate with a webConnect plan to ensure the best experience," the document specifically suggests. The plan's apparently coming November 3rd, a date which is associated with another likely rumor, too -- TmoNews has a leaked email of its own suggesting the new myTouch will hit November 3rd as well. With Verizon, AT&T and Sprint all already charging for connection sharing, we suppose the writing was on the wall. The days of ambiguous wireless freedom are just about over, folks.
T-Mobile launching data tethering / wireless hotspot plan on Nov. 3rd for $14.99? originally appeared on Engadget on Tue, 26 Oct 2010 17:48:00 EST. We always thought it was peculiar that T-Mobile's third myTouch phone would be simply called "myTouch," especially when earlier leaks tacked on "HD" for good measure. Aspects of the device's ROM leak suggests that isn't necessarily the case -- or, at least, it wasn't always. A teaser video (presented in a phone-friendly, portrait resolution) was found wading through the lines of code, serving to both highlight key features (genius button, HD camcorder, video chat, screen sharing) and conclude with a differentiating designation: myTouch 4G. That 4G would be in reference to HSPA+, of course, whether or not its competition sees things as such. For all we know, though, this could be an earlier version of the footage and 4G has since been dropped from, rather than added to, its official handle. Then again, what's in a name? That which we call a myTouch by any other name would surely run as swift. Video after the break.
Continue reading T-Mobile myTouch 4G ROM leak includes teaser video, speed-enhanced moniker

T-Mobile myTouch 4G ROM leak includes teaser video, speed-enhanced moniker originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 18 Oct 2010 22:06:00 EST. That front-facing camera, optical trackpad and Genius button are all in plain sight, but we're afraid we didn't get to give them a try -- the screen on this T-Mobile myTouch is pitch black because it's just a hardware prototype. That didn't keep us from snapping plenty of pictures when we spotted the Froyo-filled HSPA+ handset at the carrier's booth, though -- including a few of the phone side-by-side with its predecessor, the myTouch Slide. First, you'd probably like to hear about the hardware on display, so here's the executive summary: the device feels fairly solid, it's got a neat two-tone design with a fancy metal battery cover, and there's a nice big shutter button. The myTouch also sports a set of three copper contacts on the side almost certainly destined for a landscape dock, though nearby T-Mobile representatives quickly disavowed knowledge of any such product. They did confirm we'll see the phone by the holidays, though, so we won't have long to wait.
Update: As it turns out, this particular myTouch is actually the white one, as the handsets all share the same black and chrome styling up front. Want to see what it looks like with a red back, though? Notably absent from the compatibility list so far, Android is finally being welcomed to the club today -- as rumored -- with the recently-announced myTouch and Motorola Defy among the first models to nab the feature. Though availability on currently-sold phones hasn't been announced, T-Mobile does say that WiFi calling is "anticipated to be available on a growing selection of T-Mobile's Android-powered smartphones in the coming months," so we'll go on record hoping we see a few upgrades in the works (G2, we're looking straight at you). Follow the break for the carrier's full press release.
Continue reading T-Mobile finally brings Android into the WiFi calling game

T-Mobile finally brings Android into the WiFi calling game originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 06 Oct 2010 09:00:00 EST. Looking a bit like a myTouch 3G Slide sans slide, the newly-announced myTouch -- yes, just "myTouch" -- is the latest addition to the consumer-centric side of T-Mobile's Android lineup, featuring a 3.8-inch WVGA display, 5 megapixel primary camera with 720p capture, and a next-gen MSM8255 Snapdragon core running at 1GHz. Notice how we said "primary camera"? Yep, it's true: the myTouch features a second, front-facing cam as well, becoming just the second phone from T-Mobile (and one of the first in the States, of course) to offer video calling. Looks like it'll be supported over both WiFi and 3G using Qik and Yahoo Messenger, so you'll be able to see the beautiful faces of your EVO-sporting friends from afar. Like the G2, it's got full support for T-Mobile's up-and-coming HSPA+ network along with 802.11n and Android 2.2 out of the box. We don't have pricing or a launch date yet, but we're told it'll be available "in time for the holidays" in your choice of four scintillating colors: white, black, plum, and red. Follow the break for the full press release.
Continue reading T-Mobile myTouch announced: Android 2.2, video calling, and HSPA+

T-Mobile myTouch announced: Android 2.2, video calling, and HSPA+ originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 04 Oct 2010 00:01:00 EST. Erudite tipster Abe found this little gem -- if you search for "HSPA" at T-Mobile's online store, up pops the image above, and as you can no doubt see with your sparkling eyes, that's the myTouch HD we're looking at. Or perhaps just the "myTouch," as that's the moniker on this particular page, or even the "myTouch 2," as that's the name affixed to the tiny image. No matter what it's called, though, it looks like that front-facing camera is confirmed, and given our query we wouldn't be terribly surprised if it had HSPA+ connectivity too. The big question is how disappointed you'll be if it's not "priced as low as free" when the handset comes out.

Update: Tipster David R. found some extra shots of the HTC handset buried deep in T-Mobile's site -- it's got a black front, but the back of the unit is actually silver and white. You'll find a 3.5mm headset jack up top, a micro-USB port on the left and a likely shutter button on the right, while the rear has a camera with what appear to be LED flash and speakerphone to either side.

Update 2: That link didn't work before, but it sure does now -- it's the myTouch, and it's got HSPA+ all right.
Now that T-Mobile's got its G2 slider out in the open, the cosmic universe reckons it's time to look towards the next HSPA+ device -- and the next iteration of the Android-laden myTouch series. We've seen alleged pics of the myTouch HD before, and now TmoNews has what it claims is an internal document from the carrier boasting some of the key features of the device. Sure, it could be all for naught, but let's hear this one out. According to the alleged paper, the myTouch HD runs on "America's largest 4G network" (that's gonna make some eyes roll) and has a 3.8-inch screen, Swype, 4GB internal space, a bundled 8GB SD card, a five megapixel rear camera, and a VGA camera on the front for video chat over Qik or Yahoo Messenger. There's also talk of screen sharing for pictures and video onto a HDTV, but that could be something as simple as HDMI output. Something tells us the 1GHz "dual processor" is more than likely a typo that's meant to say dual-core, à la the Snapdragon chips, but when you're dealing in the world of the unconfirmed, we suppose anything's possible.
Rumored T-Mobile doc pegs myTouch HD with front-facing camera, screen sharing, and 'dual processor' originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 13 Sep 2010 03:53:00 EST. So, how do you feel about the look of this myTouch 3G HD we've been seeing this week? Haven't formed a complete opinion yet? Well, maybe this new shot -- seemingly of said phone's backside -- will help. As we've seen on past models, the rear features a tastefully-sized myTouch logo, lending a dose of credibility to the picture that seems to have been covertly snapped off a monitor where the render was being shown. In other words, we don't have much reason to doubt this thing -- and considering that the Vibrant isn't a member of the myTouch line, T-Mobile's overdue for a refreshed non-QWERTY Android device in that segment of the market. Should be an interesting few months for these guys, no?
T-Mobile's apparent myTouch 3G HD gets spied from the rear originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 29 Jul 2010 13:27:00 EST. Someone should really tell T-Mobile USA it's got a rather large hole that needs plugged. Hot on the heels of the (presumably) T-Mob-bound G1 Blaze leak comes this duo, which includes a purported leak of the myTouch HD (or 3G HD) as well as a web portal that quite clearly prepares us for the launch of the carrier's first HSPA+ smartphone. Of course, there's no official confirmation that the handset you're peering at above is anything more than a fan render, but it certainly has a look of authenticity to it; sadly, there aren't any rumored specifications to tag alongside the JPG, but it's a pretty safe bet that this one will run some flavor of Android and rely heavily on screen presses for letter input. As for the promo page? Scrutineers have drawn a link between it and the Vanguard that we peeked a few weeks back, so feel free to let your imagination run a bit wild there. Looks like it's gearing up to be quite the second half for America's number two GSM operator.
TmoNews has it on good authority that the entire line of myTouch 3G devices -- the original, the 3.5mm jack update, and the Slide -- will get upgraded with Android 2.2, as evidenced by a fascinating shot of a pamphlet the site has posted. Users of the older devices will also get the same Genius Button functionality that was just rolled out on the Slide, along with the updated Faves app and full Microsoft Exchange support, breathing new life into a phone that first saw life as the Magic well over a year ago. We don't have a timeframe for the updates other than that they're "coming soon," so we'll keep an eye out.
After taking a look at this launch deck for T-Mobile's myTouch 3G Slide, it's becoming more obvious than ever that T-Mobile is taking the myTouch brand very seriously -- it's not just about a product, it's about an ongoing line of devices that all prescribe to the same socially-connected principles. In fact, with the effective loss of Sidekick to Verizon now that the ex-Danger team has thrown its weight behind Kin, you might even argue that the myTouch line is being positioned to take over where Sidekick left off, and that's evidenced when you see that they're referring to myTouch as a "franchise" throughout these slides. Follow the break for some of the highlights!

Gallery: T-Mobile slide deck chats up myTouch 3G Slide's June 2 launch

Continue reading T-Mobile slide deck chats up myTouch 3G Slide's June 2 launch

T-Mobile slide deck chats up myTouch 3G Slide's June 2 launch originally appeared on Engadget on Wed, 26 May 2010 12:51:00 EST. So T-Mobile's myTouch 3G Slide -- the QWERTY-enabled version of the venerable myTouch 3G -- has been priced and dated, and we're happy to see that "expected to be available in June" has turned out to mean the very beginning of the month; June 2, to be exact, in your choice of red, white, or black. What makes us less happy, though, is the notion of paying $179.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate for an Android device that now has the unenviable job of lying in the massive shadow created by the brilliant EVO 4G. Granted, the two phones are for very different carriers, but that doesn't really excuse T-Mobile from offering up a phone with a lower-class processor, 40 percent of the screen resolution, and three megapixels lopped off the camera for just $30 less upfront, does it? Time for some serious price correction across the smartphone landscape, wethinks.
T-Mobile myTouch 3G Slide coming June 2 for $180 originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 20 May 2010 11:41:00 EST. G1 and myTouch 3G? Not so much. But don't worry, Android early adopters, because Cyanogen's got your back. Most all the bells, whistles and hardware-accelerated graphics of Android 2.1 are coming to the HTC Dream, Magic and Sapphire in CyanogenMod 5.0.7, and you can see a video of a T-Mobile G1 running the new build after the break. Twitter buzz indicates the ROM <strike>will be out any minute now</strike> is nearly ready; the dev himself tweeted that it's good to go and just needs G1-friendly bite size packaging.

Update: Don't stay up all night waiting -- Cyanogen says he's got "two more bugs to kill" and is "hoping for a test1 public beta tomorrow night."
Yeah, we saw the myTouch Slide back in January, but it certainly seems to have come a long way in the past few months. For starters, the phone is on now, showing off a slightly custom Android UI and that 480 x 320 screen. The handset also looks to have gotten a fancy red (or is that form of pink?) paint job, and doesn't look half bad for it. Our guess is we'll be seeing this in a number of colors, just like the myTouch 3G, but that's just speculation. There aren't any other details about the phone on offer here, or knowledge on exactly how this shot managed to leak out, but we figure we'll be learning more soon enough.
myTouch Slide found in the wild, looking good in red originally appeared on Engadget on Mon, 12 Apr 2010 17:04:00 EST. Sure enough, a quick check of T-Mobile's site confirms that the device is listed as "temporarily out of stock," but the problem is that "temporarily" might be a hell of a wait -- it's being claimed that we won't see a fresh batch of these until April. Why the huge gap? It seems T-Mobile had to go back to HTC and place a second order for the phone, possibly a sign that even the carrier is shocked at the success of a year-old, warmed-over device with some fake wood and a corporate tie-in. Amazing what a little rock 'n roll can do, isn't it?
T-Mobile myTouch 3G Fender Limited Edition sells out, next batch not due for a while originally appeared on Engadget on Thu, 11 Feb 2010 15:31:00 EST.
