myTouch HD confirmed by T-Mobile website, could be free on contract? (update: live!)
Erudite tipster Abe found this little gem -- if you search for "HSPA" at T-Mobile's online store, up pops the image above, and as you can no doubt see with your sparkling eyes, that's the myTouch HD we're looking at. Or perhaps just the "myTouch," as that's the moniker on this particular page, or even the "myTouch 2," as that's the name affixed to the tiny image. No matter what it's called, though, it looks like that front-facing camera is confirmed, and given our query we wouldn't be terribly surprised if it had HSPA+ connectivity too. The big question is how disappointed you'll be if it's not "priced as low as free" when the handset comes out. Update: Tipster David R. found some extra shots of the HTC handset buried deep in T-Mobile's site -- it's got a black front, but the back of the unit is actually silver and white. You'll find a 3.5mm headset jack up top, a micro-USB port on the left and a likely shutter button on the right, while the rear has a camera with what appear to be LED flash and speakerphone to either side. HTC Magic's user agent profile says it has a QWERTY keyboard, possible myTouch Slide for T-Mobile?
We'd just heard the other day some hot rumors that HTC's aging Magic would see a new version on T-Mobile this Spring with a physical keyboard added into the mix, and now we've got some corroborating evidence: an official user agent profile for the Sapphire (HTC's original codename for the phone) that proudly boasts of its QWERTY capability. You might think that this doesn't mean much since even Android phones without physical keyboard still have access to QWERTY through software, but actually, the "prf:Keyboard" line in these bundles of XML typically reads "No" if there isn't an actual keyboard in tow. Ironically, the original myTouch just got reworked with a 3.5mm headphone jack, but who knows -- maybe T-Mobile's evil plan is to let the old one soldier on for another handful of months and offer a new model just above it with a whole bunch of extra keys?
T-Mobile signed up for HTC Espresso, new Garmin phone in first half of the year?
Bringing the mighty HD2 on board is already quite a win for T-Mobile USA, but the fun doesn't stop there -- clearly these guys must have some other exclusives in the works, and TmoNews is noticing a tip trend toward a couple specific devices. First up, the phone we've heard rumored as the HTC Espresso is said to be coming to Big Magenta (we just made that up, you like it?) as either the myTouch 2 or myTouch Slide. Why "Slide," you ask? Well, there'll apparently be some sort of QWERTY keyboard in tow -- which, if true, hopefully means the carrier will be getting its non-QWERTY Android love from somewhere else. Next, T-Mobile is said to be working with Garmin (or Garmin-Asus, as it were) on a handset, something that would make perfect sense considering that we just saw an AWS-compliant device from those guys in the FCC. In terms of timing, we're rumored to be looking at May for both of these -- but considering how rarely these dates stay steady this far in advance, we wouldn't even raise an eyebrow if they slipped into the second half.
