Deus Ex: The Fall made the jump from mobiles to PC today, and you can pick it up on Steam right now for $10 in North America, or £8/10 euros in Europe. The PC port was originally due on March 25, but Square Enix stealthily brought the release date forward by a week. The Fall follows on from The Icarus Effect, a prequel novel to Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and it features a different protagonist in former SAS mercenary Ben Saxon. The hero may be new but the game is a familiar mix of stealth, action, and gold-tinted cybernetics. In terms of what's not familiar on PC, the port professes AI adjustments, revisions to the tutorial, the option to toggle cover styles, and controller support. Also, microtransactions have been removed from the game completely, with the economy tweaked as a result. Finally, if you're tempted by the itch for more Deus Ex, you might like to know that if you buy The Fall today, you get a copy of Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition for free. [Image: Square Enix]

Deus Ex: The Fall has the gall to declare exactly when it'll infiltrate the Steam compound, and that's March 25. The enhanced PC version of the iOS and Android action-RPG will be priced $10 in North America, £8/10 euros in Europe, and pre-orders will snag a copy of Deus Ex: Game of the Year Edition as an augmentation. We've reached out to Square Enix to see if there'll be Mac and Linux versions of the port in addition to Windows PC. In addition to usual Steam doodads like trading cards and achievements, Square Enix says the PC version of The Fall includes AI adjustments, a revised tutorial, controller support, and a Deus Ex: Human Revolution-like toggling between cover styles. One element that's missing from the mobile version is microtransactions, with game economy rebalanced to accommodate. You can find a fuller list of the tweaks and additions here. Square Enix brought The Fall to iOS and Android last year, and while it's set in the same gold-hued world of Human Revolution, it follows the events of the game's prequel novel, The Icarus Effect, and stars Ben Saxon rather than DX:HR protagonist Adam Jensen. While we never asked for this, it'll be interesting to see how n-Fusion's mobile reworking of Eidos Montreal's formula translates back onto PC. In our Portabliss column, Xav de Matos said that although the game is enjoyable, with it "populated world, unenthusiastic story, and drastic dips in quality, Deus Ex: The Fall lacks the same passion that made Human Revolution one of 2011's best video games." Android users who've been waiting to take The Fall will be pleased to know the Deus Ex mobile game breached the walls of Google Play today. From what we can see, there are no additions to the 2013 iOS version, or to its asking price of $7. If you want to augment your knowledge on Deus Ex: The Fall before you buy, check out our Portabliss feature on the iPad version. Xav was lukewarm on the action-RPG, saying, "At $7, what Deus Ex: The Fall does best is to, for a limited time, satiate a hunger for another entry in Eidos Montreal's sleek universe."

This is Portabliss, a column about downloadable games that can be played on the go. Deus Ex: The Fall had a difficult coming out party. After predicting a follow-up to Deus Ex: Human Revolution, fans recoiled in frustration when Square Enix revealed The Fall as a mobile-exclusive game. Molding the movement and style of Eidos Montreal's reimagined world to a touch interface must not have been an easy task, but developer n-Fusion has pulled it off. Deus Ex: The Fall features a number of control options, including precision movements with virtual sticks and/or screen taps. Customizable icons allow for easy access to weapons, executions, abilities, items and more. Deus Ex: The Fall can be enjoyable, but the overall experience is hollow. With a sparsely populated world, unenthusiastic story, and drastic dips in quality, Deus Ex: The Fall lacks the same passion that made Human Evolution one of 2011's best video games.%Gallery-193588%
