‘Devil May Cry 5’ fans in Japan get insane $8,000 bundle
If you plan on dressing up as Dante for Halloween, this is the jacket to get. Capcom has announced a new Devil May Cry 5 "Ultra Limited Edition" bundle via its E-Capcom website. The bundle includes a copy of the game -- either for Xbox One or PS4 -- interchangeable box art, and a life-sized leather replica of Dante's jacket.
Nero has a sense of duty, not a call
Nero is a spiritual exploration and first-person puzzle game set in a world of floating robed figures, glowing orbs and skeletal ghosts. It's filled with dark, dense vegetation and crumbling ruins with slivers of neon light lining their edges and curves. Jellyfish float through the streams along the pathways. It's a game about love, sadness and a sense of duty, Producer Giulia Carlotta Zamboni said during a hands-off Xbox One demo at E3. The game comes from Italian studio Storm in a Teacup. Nero is in alpha now, but already it presents a beautiful, mysterious landscape. Though there are plenty of puzzles to solve within the game, it's truly about the story and the characters, Creative Director Carlo Ivo Alimo Bianchi added. "What are you willing to sacrifice for someone you love?" he asked, presenting the game's premise. Nero is due out in Q1 2015 for Xbox One, PC and possibly other platforms. [Image: Storm in a Teacup]
Bellperre Nero Gold looks kitchy in various expensive critter hides
Nice - or something -- to see a Windows Mobile device getting the Midas touch, and Bellperre gives us just that in the Nero Gold. Finished in leather from your choices of shark, lizard, buffalo, or even alligator, gold accents, and with black brushed steel filling in all the other holes in this otherwise fairly brick-like affair. The Nero Gold is apparently a tri-band GSM device with a 2-inch display, the usual Windows Mobile push mail and office apps, and a tough as nails scratch resistant sapphire crystal screen. Want one? Yeah, neither do we, but if you'd like to see how the other half lives, hop on over to the Bellperre site and have a look see. How to make the most of your hotel television
We've covered a number of newer hotel chains that actually recognize the importance of delivering HDTV programming and HD VOD to guests, but for the vast majority of places still living in decades past, there's Gadling's latest how-to guide. If you're sick and tired of checking into hotels with ancient TVs and lackluster programming, there actually are some options. For one, it's always smart to carry a bit of media on a PMP and bring along every connection cable you can imagine. Furthermore, those with Slingboxen and other place-shifting solutions can usually pipe their content from laptop to TV with the right connections. Star Trek prequel coming to the iPhone
I have no idea how much of this is spoilers, but if you want to walk into this summer's Star Trek movie with a completely blank slate of expectations, you should probably move on to the next post. Spoilers ahead!Ok then. Apparently J.J. Abrams, who's directing the new Star Trek movie, has worked with some comic book creators to (get this) bring a prequel of the prequel to the small screen before it appears on the big one. Whew. They're releasing a series of iPhone apps, which are actually "mini-comics" telling the pre-story of the movie. And here's where it gets really confusing (and spoilerific): apparently, while the movie is a prequel featuring a young Kirk and Spock, the story's villian is actually a time-traveler from Star Trek: TNG times. Which means the iPhone comics actually star Picard and his TNG crew, and tell the story of the movie's villian, a Romulan named Nero. I originally though the film was a non-canon reboot of the series, but no -- apparently even though we've never seen this era on film before, it is still mean to fit right in the Federation's universe.Still with us and interested? You actually are a Star Trek fan! (I prefer Star Wars myself.) The comics are going for 99 cents each (you can apparently pick up the same comic in print for $3.99), and are available in the App Store right now.
Vertu concocts a few more moneymakers: Ferrari Ascent Ti collection
We've already learned that the luxury handset sector ain't hurting even though the economy is (B&O notwithstanding), so it follows logic to see Vertu crafting a new line of covetable mobiles for the affluent. Reportedly, the Ferrari Ascent Ti collection will consist of three phones that all sport the iconic Ferrari logo along with a catchy paint job to further illustrate the automotive connection. The Nero will be all black, while the Rosso and Giallo will be red and yellow, respectively. Each handset features a scratch proof PVD and Ferrari-inspired themes / ringtones, none of which will really make 'em worth the asking price. Speaking of which, Vertu hasn't publicly disclosed a sticker just yet, but given that just north of 2,000 will be made, we'd say it'll be up there. Way up there.[Via I4U News]

TiVo on the PC just sounds good, doesn't it? Unfortunately, the in-house testing proved otherwise... at least with the $99 per year price tag tacked on for no good reason. Head on over to Engadget HD for the full spill, and don't be afraid to wear your TiVo pride on your sleeve.
Nero LiquidTV | TiVo PC review
For the most part, you'll be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't like the TiVo UI. The scary thing is that despite the fact that it hasn't seen a real overhaul in like... ever, it's still better than just about anything else out there. So it makes sense that TiVo would be willing to work with Nero to bring that TiVo experience to the PC -- with a few enhancements to boot. Unfortunately for Nero, the PC DVR market is a little more competitive than the stand-alone market, so it's going to take much more than just a pretty face to fetch the $99 a year for TiVo service. %Gallery-34293%
Nero LiquidTV | TiVo PC gets unboxed
For TiVo fans, there's no denying that the Nero LiquidTV | TiVo PC holds a lot of promise. Granted, it is arriving mighty late to a party that's been rockin' for some time now, but TiVo mixed with PC just sounds so, so good. Engadget HD was able to grab hold of a unit and unbox the thing for all to see, and as you wait for a review in the near future, let us encourage you to enjoy the gallery right over yonder.
Hands-on and unboxing: Nero LiquidTV | TiVo PC
We received our Nero Liquid TV review kit today and before got knee deep in experiencing TiVo on a PC, we paused and took some pictures for your enjoyment. Although we wonder how big the market is for yet another piece of DVR, HTPC software, we do want to find out if the $200 price point, and $99 a year for service, is worth it for a remote, IR transceiver, hybrid tuner, antenna and software. We'll be trying this with our Vista Media Center hardware -- including CableCARD tuners that we don't expect to work -- as well as the included remote and tuner, so stay tuned. %Gallery-33095%
Potential new TiVo user interface shown on video
We know, you're still digesting the whole Nero LiquidTV / TiVo PC introduction, but once you get through your head that said product brings TiVo functionality to your PC, we'd like you to have a look at something only mildly related. In the best form possible (that'd be video, for those curious), a walkthrough of a potential new user interface for TiVo as a whole has been hosted up. According to the lucky soul who was able to grab this information from a recent survey, there's no telling if it'll ever actually be released. 'Course, we highly doubt TiVo pays its engineers to cook up new software for nothing, but we've heard of zanier scenarios. Nero LiquidTV / TiVo PC brings TiVo interface to the PC
Rejoice, HTPC fans -- that partnership between Nero and TiVo has finally borne fruit in the form of Nero's new LiquidTV / TiVo PC DVR package, which brings the TiVo interface and featureset to Windows. The $199 package comes with a year of TiVo service, a Hauppage USB ATSC tuner, an IR receiver, and a Nero-branded TiVo remote, and does exactly as you'd expect -- it's TiVo on your PC. There are some interesting PC-specific features bolted on the usual kit -- you can navigate using the keyboard and mouse (there are even some nifty contextual menus) and you can export directly to iPod and PSP-compatible .mp4 from within the interface -- but for the most part it's the same TiVo experience you're used to, including streaming shows to and from other TiVos and TiVo PCs. If you're already running an HTPC setup, you can get the TiVo PC software and a year of service for $99, but your Media Center remote might be a little wonky without a remap, and Nero reps didn't make any promises about CableCARD compatibility apart from "it should work if Windows recognizes it." Obviously we'd like to see that firmed up a bit -- and maybe get some tru2way support in the deal -- but it's definitely a start. Should be available now.
Devil May Cry 4 sheds 2 million tears
Capcom's leather-clad bender Devil May Cry 4 has shipped out an impressive 2 million units since its debut two weeks ago, making it the first game in the opulent franchise to reach the milestone so quickly and the latest feather in the cap for Capcom's now 9 million unit selling series.This accolade is no doubt helped by the fact that the sequel, unlike those that came before it, was released for two platforms simultaneously, satiating players' thirst for over-the-top action regardless if they wave their banner over the Xbox 360 or PS3. In addition, Capcom continues to note that a PC version, for those inclined to play console-style games while tethered to their monitor and desk chair, will be released in the months ahead.
Devil May Cry 4 tears up UK charts
Capcom's over-the-top action extravaganza, Devil May Cry 4, has debuted at the top of the UK's all-format software sales chart, rudely bumping previous one-er Burnout: Paradise down to fourth place. GamesIndustry.biz reports that 61 percent of the title's sales came from the Xbox 360 version, a fact which is sure to make loyalists and rabid petitioners weep uncontrollably. Of course, it didn't help that the PlayStation 3 version had to deal with price gouging and an installation stigma. In other satanic sniveling news, Capcom has announced that the Devil May Cry 4 demo has been downloaded over a million times on Xbox Live, making it the first piece of code to do so in 2008. Since appearing on the network January 24th, it's reportedly been averaging over 25,000 downloads a day.
Metareview - Devil May Cry 4 (Xbox 360, PS3)
Shed a tear for those who still feel utterly betrayed by a huge, profit-seeking corporation's decision to release a game on more than one platform. The (fan)boycotters are missing out on all the demon demolishing found in Devil May Cry 4, Capcom's latest take on the continuing struggle between the forces of evil and whichever sword-wielding smack talker walks out of the salon first. Though Beelzebub's fourth bawl brawl clearly sticks to the franchise formula, we think Dante Lite (pictured above) is crashing a party that only got into full swing with the third game. Eurogamer (70/100): "After more than seven years, the Devil May Cry series finds itself in the same kind of safe, reliable trough that Resident Evil was in before Resi 4. DMC4 can still fall back on rock-solid combat mechanics and some standout moments, but it feels as though it's comfortable to slowly refine what was good about previous versions rather than evolve into something spectacular." 1UP (85/100): "Although it dips into the recycling bin a bit too much, Devil May Cry 4 still remains a must-play title for action-adventure gamers. Its gorgeous trappings, addictive combat, and well-balanced difficulty make it the most satisfying DMC in years, and Dante's such a killer character that you'll actually want to tackle the game on a tougher difficulty in order to fully explore his amazing arsenal." IGN: (87/100): "Though the focus might be more on Nero than Dante, and could've been named something else with a Dante cameo, DMC4 still has everything that fans expect of the game – over the top fight sequences, tons of replayability and an experience with an excellent production value. Devil May Cry 4 demo hits PSN, Xbox Live this Thursday
If you're not too busy playing Satan's Sudoku, you may want to lend some of your time to Beelzebub's bawling buddy, Devil May Cry 4. Though rumor had it arriving a tad later, the folks at Capcom have confirmed that a demo of the extravagant actioner is due to arrive on Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Network this Thursday, January 24th. Demo May Cry will acquaint players with newcomer Nero, the franchise's third silver-haired, sword-wielding weirdo with a penchant for killing demons in spectacular fashion (that coat is snazzy!). Players will battle through several different locales and a boss encounter before being reminded of the full game's release on February 5th.%Gallery-2904%
Joystiq hands-on: Devil May Cry 4 (PS3)
Devil May Cry 4 is only a month away from release and we were itching to sit down for a few hours and try out the final build. From what we've seen, the game has been polished so much we could almost see our faces in it. It's clear that DMC4 has benefited from being pushed back to early '08, if only because it now has the Q1 stage all to itself.The gameplay hasn't changed much since Devil May Cry 1, but fans of the series should see no problems with that. Having said that, numerous new features have been added, with Nero's crazy arm (used for grabbing, throwing and slamming, natch) reminding us of Evil Dead 2. That can only be a good thing, right? Its ability to cling onto nearby floating objects in order to reach higher places is ripped straight from Onimusha 3, though the timing based jump puzzles seen here make things a little different.One such puzzle requires you to hop across a spike-filled room by grabbing jump points that can disappear and reappear at random. Grab at the wrong time and the spikes will damage you, causing you to plummet into a room full of marionettes (those being the things trying to kill you most of the time) below. Did we fall? Maybe. Buffalo MediaStation Blu-ray / HD DVD enters U.S. Q1 2008
Buffalo's external Blu-ray burning / HD DVD reading combo drive -- sequel to the BHC-6316U2 -- is coming to the U.S., now branded the Buffalo MediaStation Blu-ray HD DVD (BRHC-6316U2). Based on Hitachi's 6x burning / 4x reading GGW-H20N, its hitting American USB ports in the first quarter of this year with an MSRP of $649. Unlike the previous version's Cyberlink PowerDVD bundle, this throws in Nero software for all your HDM needs. Nero 8 update brings Blu-ray authoring, mini HD DVD support
Sure, there are a couple of software suites out there that offer up Blu-ray authoring, but it's still far from being a common feature. Additionally, we'd have to say that Nero is one of the more popular burning applications, and the firm's latest update to Nero 8 adds in BDMV authoring and playback, improved file encoding speed and support for mini HD DVD-Video discs. If you're unfamiliar with the latter, it's essentially the process of squeezing down content more suitable for an HD DVD onto a vanilla DVD for playback in an HD DVD player (phew) -- something we've certainly touched on before. For existing Nero 8 owners, you can snag the new plug-in for $24.99, while current owners of the plug-in will reportedly be able to upgrade gratis.
Devil May Cry 4 demo confirmed for PSN, XBL in early 2008
Getting gifts and embarrassing ourselves while under the influence of copious amounts of alcohol are reasons enough to count down until the new year, but Capcom has given us another reason to continue to mark through days on the kitchen calender, announcing plans to release a free playable demo of Devil May Cry 4 over both the Xbox Live Marketplace and PlayStation Store in early 2008.It's unclear exactly what will be included in the demo, with Capcom saying only that the download will serve to introduce the game's new hero, Nero, and feature levels "chosen to showcase Devil May Cry 4's varied locales and allow gamers to familiarize themselves with Nero's unique abilities." The demo will also include in-game instructions on how to use DMC4's Exceed sword charge system and various superhuman abilities, made possible by Nero's "Devil Bringer" powers, and will be capped off with a fight against a surly boss named Berial. We hope the boss has insurance, because players have been waiting a long time revisit Devil May Cry, and we imagine Berial is going to buried many times before the game's February 5, 2008 release.
