The name Icewind Dale conjures a lot of fond memories for fans of both the Forgotten Realms and turn-of-the-century RPGs. Fortunately for both groups, Cryptic and Perfect World are returning to the iconic locale in Neverwinter's next expansion. Module 3: Curse of Icewind Dale is slated to release "later this spring," according to a news blurb on Cryptic's Arc website. Players can expect "new PvE content," new features, and "completely different ways to PvP." The Forgotten Realms campaign setting has plenty of memorable locales, but few of them rival the city of Neverwinter in terms of iconography and fictional history. Neverwinter is the kind of city that you name a game after, in fact. Possibly even two games if you want to get technical about it. Perfect World's latest website update pays tribute to the town known as the Jewel of the North with a bit of expository text to bring you up to speed on Neverwinter's place in the D&D timeline. The firm has also released an accompanying video that you watch after the break.

Are you fond of greenskin brutes with big battleaxes and bad breath? Do you tire of maggoty bread after three stinkin' days? If you answered yes to either of those questions, you'll probably appreciate the latest trailer for Neverwinter, because it's an Orc-infested smorgasbord from start to finish. Perfect World wants you to know that "Orcs have always been a major threat to Humans, Elves and Dwarves. Laying claim to the area in the northern half of the old Tower District, Orcs have made the Cloak Tower in Neverwinter their home," says the company's latest PR blast. "Even the most courageous heroes will have to fight their way through the ruins of this district to put an end to the Orc domination and help restore Neverwinter to her former glory." Check out the teaser clip after the cut. [Source: Perfect World press release]

Cryptic has released a new zone preview for Neverwinter. This time around, the subject is Mount Hotenow, and it's intended for high-level adventurers and stuffed to the gills with iconic Forgotten Realms enemies. Fire giants abound, and there's also the ancient primordial who caused Mount Hotenow's eruption in the first place. Cryptic's new dev diary expands on that setup, as does the new preview video that we've embedded for you after the break.
