Nintendo completes 3DS Ambassador program, delivers ten GBA games to early adopters
If you've still got the 3DS price drop blues, perhaps a fresh (and final) infusion of free games will help. Early adopters that signed into the Nintendo eShop before August 11th will find ten GameBoy Advance games tacked on to their handheld's purchase history, retrievable via the same clunky redownload system that delivered the 3DS Ambassador program's NES titles. Thankfully, the unintuitive process is relatively simple -- just hop into the eShop's menu, scroll down to "Settings / Other", and select "Your Downloads," to claim your (potentially-exclusive) games. Short of having a 3DS guide us through the Louvre, we can't think of a better use for Nintendo's fledgling handheld.
Import Kururin Paradise for only $10
Long hailed as one of the GBA's best puzzle titles, Kururin Paradise never landed on North American shores, preferring instead to limit its release to Japan. Play-Asia has taken pity on our Kururin-less souls, listing the 8ing-developed game at a dicount price of $9.90! This deal lasts until next Tuesday, so you'll have more than enough time to collect change on the sidewalk for this purchase. GBA discontinued at Target?
We'll admit we haven't been in Target for awhile, so this news comes as kind of a surprise to us. Sure, we like to use our DS Lite to play GBA games (even if they stick out some), but sometimes you just can't beat the feeling of pulling a GBA SP out of your pocket, flipping it open and playing some Omega Factor. Apparently, the GBA SP's time on this Earth is limited.Of course, we can understand why Nintendo would discontinue the handheld, but it doesn't mean we're not a tad bit hurt to see the handheld leave our life so quickly.
Now is the time to buy some RockMen
Online import shop Play Asia is trying to lighten its stock of mega-robot guys, hosting a week-long sale on RockMan 3 Zero. Capcom's GBA action-platformer has been discounted to $9.90, almost a fifth of its original price! RockMan 2 Zero boasts a similar discount as a limited time offer, but you get an additional dollar off if you bundle the two games together for your order, bringing the total cost to $18.80.And in case you've already forgotten, Renchi has also marked a number of its DS import titles down to $9.99, one of them being RockMan ZX! Tiny hotness: playing the Wii on a GBA SP (update 1)
In using a special cartridge that allows a video signal to be sent to the GBA, You Tube user jackal27 rocks his Wii on the portable's tiny screen. Obviously, the practical use of such a feature is almost nonexistent, but it makes for a fun little You Tube video. Nintendo cements Amazon's record Xmas
Gone are the days when "Amazon" referred to a lush South American stretch of land, brimming with exotic animals, untouched rivers and impenetrable jungles. No, that Amazon has long since been uprooted, trampled and burnt to the ground to make way for computer servers to power the modern and decidedly more well-stocked Amazon. That's progress for you.Amazon has made quite some progress this year, with their Christmas sales reaching epic proportions. They've reportedly sold more than 108 million items with virtual carts being filled at a rate of 41 orders per second. It was a blue Christmas for them, as the top-selling items in video game hardware were, of course, the Pearl Blue GBA SP and the Electric Blue DS. Oh, and that PSP thingamabob. Jeff Bezos, Amazon CEO was also kind enough to impart some holiday well-wishing. "We are grateful to our customers for shopping with us this holiday season and we wish everyone a happy new year."In other words, thanks for giving us your money and we hope you're still alive next year so you can do it again.
Hudson classics coming back
Re-releasing old classics on portable gaming systems? What a novel and hitherto unexplored idea! Those crazy guys at Hudson have plumbed their archives of goodness and yanked out a few classics they thought you might enjoy again and then promptly squeezed them into tiny little GBA carts. You know, those things that go into that bottom slot thingy in your DS.The "Hudson Best Collection" label will see the release of several great NES games, including Lode Runner, Nuts & Milk, Star Soldier, Adventure Island, Bomberman and, er, Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom. Hmm, sounds like that last one should be tossed. Dreadful puns aside, I fondly remember my time with Lode Runner. I loved that game - the tension, the satisfaction of stealing a pile of gold and the realization that....you just dug yourself into a freakin' hole. Again! Man, I hated that game.
