Black Friday is right around the corner and Nintendo has a couple of deals on the way. The first bundle it's offering includes a Nintendo Switch system and a download code for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and it's priced at $300. The second comes with a Nintendo 2DS system with Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS pre-installed. That bundle costs $80. Nintendo says both deals are only available on Black Friday and they'll be available from Target, Best Buy, Walmart, GameStop and Amazon.

  • Nintendo's 2DS XL lands in the UK for £130

There's nothing like a summer holiday spent chilling in an air-conditioned hotel room playing computer games. And if you're looking for something portable enough to chuck in your hand luggage, Nintendo's new 2DS XL might be just the ticket. Launching today in the UK, the £130 handheld ditches the wedge form factor of the original 2DS in favour of the classic clamshell style. It features a 4.88-inch primary screen like the 3DS XL, but packs it into a smaller package -- sans stereoscopic 3D display, of course.

Nintendo’s New 2DS XL is the closest you’ll ever get to a ‘3DS XL Lite’

When most of us think about Nintendo hardware, we think about the gimmick. The motion controls of the Wii, the second screen of the Nintendo DS, the stereoscopic visuals of the 3DS and the duality of the Nintendo Switch. These innovations define Nintendo's brand -- but it's not the only hallmark of Nintendo hardware. The company is as much of a house of iteration as it is innovation, particularly when it comes to portable gaming. Almost every one of its handheld consoles -- from the original GameBoy to the Nintendo DS -- has been revised, retooled and released in a new form. Nintendo has made five versions of its original 3DS hardware, and it's about to release one more: The New Nintendo 2DS XL.

  • Nintendo's 2DS XL doesn't need 3D to be a solid handheld

Nintendo's latest portable, the New 2DS XL, isn't even out yet and people are already questioning its existence. Does the company really need another hand-held gaming console, especially with the recent launch of its hybrid Switch? For Nintendo, the answer is an obvious "yes," based on the belief that consumers want a 2DS with the form factor of a 3DS XL. At $150, the 2DS XL will slot in between these two models, which cost $80 and $200, respectively. So, what exactly do you get in return? If you're comparing it to the 2DS, the extra-large version is nearly identical, with the main difference being the clamshell design. Otherwise, they both come with the same processor, same battery, same low-resolution cameras and, well, you get the point.

Nintendo 2DS drops to $80 on May 20th

The 2DS is getting yet another price cut on May 20th. Less than a year after Nintendo brought it down to $100, from $130 originally, the company revealed today that its handheld console will now cost $80. That puts the 2DS in impulse-buy territory, so long as you're willing to live without the three-dimensional effect found on the flagship 3DS. It does come with a digital copy of Mario Kart 7, though, which is about a $20 value on its own.

  • Korg DSN-12 turns your Nintendo handheld into a synthesizer, again

As we've seen before, Korg has a knack for bringing classic synth sounds to the screens of Nintendo's handhelds. Teaming up with Detune once again, the outfit is bringing the tones with the likeness of yet another iconic instrument to those wielding a 2DS, 3DS or 3DS XL. The new effort, Korg DSN-12, takes its inspiration from the company's MS-10 analog synth -- one that's fondly remembered for its bass and percussion chops. Here, a dozen monophonic sythesizers can be employed with a smattering of effects alongside a 64-step sequencer. There are multiple interfaces to sort through as well, including sequencer, synth knobs, patch panel, mixer and two oscilloscope sections to make use of Nintendo's dual-screen setup. What's more, thanks the 3DS' three-dimensional abilities, those oscilloscopes are rendered in 3D for even more eye candy. As you might expect, the stylus can be used to wrangle the app that stores up to 64 different sequences to recall later. No word on pricing for the software just yet, but expect it to arrive in September for your sample building pleasure.
