No. That was quick, so we can all -- oh, wait, no, I need to write more. Also saying we can all go home is pointless; most of you are reading this from home. All right, we'll start over. This is one of those things that gets trotted out every time a new game comes along, and in WildStar's case it comes out twice as regularly, since it's the first game in history to use colorful and stylized graphics other than World of Warcraft, except that it isn't. It's kind of ridiculous, and it's a bit of a pet peeve. As someone who has played World of Warcraft extensively, I find the list of similarities between the two pretty shallow, and it comes across more as a way of dismissing the game without bothering to learn about it. So let's talk about where WildStar does take its cues from Blizzard's game, where they differ, and why saying it's just a clone is absurd.

Is that DOOM running on the DS? Not unless "DOOM" is spelled C.O.R.E (which we believe most likely stands for "Completely Ordinary Regurgitated Experience" based on this trailer). Having nothing to do with the sci-fi disaster flick The Core or Sony's digital magazine Qore – or even Tomb Raider developer CORE – this FPS from developer No Way (yes way!) manages to take us back to 1993 with its straight-outta-DOOM shotgun sound effect and 1977 with its "hey, that's from Star Wars!" blaster sound effect. We eagerly await a metareview on this one. Can it even ... touch Touch the Dead?

  • C.O.R.E. is back to basics in the first trailer

We can't all be impressed by first-person shooters on the DS. C.O.R.E. is one of those games that fell smack-bang into Yawnsville after the first media was released. Now we have a trailer to explain a bit of the story and show off a good chunk of gameplay. Is it droolworthy? Check out the trailer and see for yourself. In other words, no. As far as the story goes, a "special" research team is checking out a crashed UFO, and "special" troops are dispatched when the thing inevitably spawns some crazy critters. Nothing generic about that special story at all. The graphics seem okay (especially that hope-raising intro video), but the whole thing is a little jerky and the corridors might become too repetitive.Still, waiting on a hands-on experience to judge its merit, because developing a smooth, fluid FPS for the DS is hard enough as it is before even thinking about decent design.%Gallery-23492%
