With the majority of households already owning an HDTV, manufacturers are pressed to convince you to upgrade, and are pulling out all the stops. We've got new display technologies like OLED, 4K and Super Hi-Vision, plus more 3D and internet connected features than ever. DVRs and media streamers haven't slowed down either, so while some services focused on eliminating the set-top box, those that remained either shrunk (Roku) or added features (Boxee, TiVo, Ceton -- pictured above). The pace of the announcements made it nearly impossible to keep up with everything going on last week, so we've wrapped everything up in one neat summary available after the break.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/16/ces-2012-hdtv-and-connected-devices-round-up/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>CES 2012: HDTV and connected devices round-up</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/16/ces-2012-hdtv-and-connected-devices-round-up/">CES 2012: HDTV and connected devices round-up</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 16 Jan 2012 15:46:00 EST. We <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/07/samsung-demos-ambient-light-powered-transparent-lcd/">first saw</a> Samsung's 46-inch 1920 x 1080 digitally augmented window back in March, but dropped by its CES booth for a second look. Although the touchscreen window still teases to fulfill our fevered sci-fi dreams, not much has changed -- it's still clear, it's still loaded with widgets, and it's still not anywhere near being installed in your home. Samsung told us this was still a concept device, although they did mention that the technology could be scaled down for use in military visors and heads up displays. Hit the break to see a video demo of a few new apps, including a rather slick set of digital blinds.<br /><br /><em>Joe Pollicino contributed to this report</em>.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/15/Samsung-OLED-Transparent-Smart-window-CES-update/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Samsung gets tired of neighbors watching its Transparent Smart Window, installs blinds</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/15/Samsung-OLED-Transparent-Smart-window-CES-update/">Samsung gets tired of neighbors watching its Transparent Smart Window, installs blinds</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 15 Jan 2012 09:44:00 EST. We just got hands-on with one of <a href="http://www.theverge.com/2012/1/10/2698275/novatels-jetpack-4g-lte-mifi-for-verizon-hands-on">Verizon's JetPacks</a>, the Novatel MiFi 4620L. At about the same size and thickness as previous endeavors, the quad-band 4G LTE unit boasts a gimmicky OLED display that apparently makes interfacing with the unit easier. We weren't convinced, but we did like its removable 1500mAh battery, which can be swapped for a more potent (but not included) 3000mAh unit. Its final party trick is the ability to relay location coordinates over WiFi to up to 10 devices (like say a tablet) that support GPS streaming. We couldn't get the Novatel rep on hand to confirm pricing or availability, but we got the sense this little guy will ship soon.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/verizon-jetpack/">Hands-on with Novatel's Jetpack MiFi 4620L</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/verizon-jetpack/#4739201"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/jrv1dsc00246_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/verizon-jetpack/#4739204"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/jrv4dsc00251_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/verizon-jetpack/#4739205"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/jrv5dsc00252_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/verizon-jetpack/#4739206"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/jrv6dsc00253_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/verizon-jetpack/#4739207"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/jrv7dsc00254_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/10/hands-on-with-verizon-novatel-mifi-4620l-jetpack-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Hands-on with Verizon Novatel MiFi 4620L Jetpack (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/10/hands-on-with-verizon-novatel-mifi-4620l-jetpack-video/">Hands-on with Verizon Novatel MiFi 4620L Jetpack (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 10 Jan 2012 22:58:00 EST. While this isn't a final production model, it's still pretty darn amazing to behold. Razor thin, the colors are as good as you'd hope from a TV with pixel-to-pixel control. Keep in mind, this bad boy will feature a dual-core processor and full 3D support. You'll have to wait until later in 2012 to snag yours and we're sure it'll cost you quite a bit. Go ahead and peek at our shots below and jump past the break for a quick eyes-on.<div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-55-inch-super-oled-tv-eyes-on/">Samsung 55-inch Super OLED TV eyes-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-55-inch-super-oled-tv-eyes-on/#4737250"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/samsung55oled01_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-55-inch-super-oled-tv-eyes-on/#4737251"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/samsung55oled02_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-55-inch-super-oled-tv-eyes-on/#4737253"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/samsung55oled03_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-55-inch-super-oled-tv-eyes-on/#4737254"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/samsung55oled04_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/samsung-55-inch-super-oled-tv-eyes-on/#4737256"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/samsung55oled05_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/10/samsung-55-inch-super-oled-tv-eyes-on-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Samsung 55-inch Super OLED TV eyes-on (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/10/samsung-55-inch-super-oled-tv-eyes-on-video/">Samsung 55-inch Super OLED TV eyes-on (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 10 Jan 2012 15:25:00 EST. We've just spent some time with the prototype here on the show floor playing a virtual demo that had us smashing buildings in a virtual world -- notably running entirely on the headset, thanks (in part) to its 1.2GHZ dual-core CPU. If you can't tell from the picture, the headset is absolutely <em>massive</em>. In-hand it's quiet hefty, but once it engulfed our noggin, we found that it was actually quiet well-balanced and comfortable, to the point that we almost forget that it was on our head --<em> almost</em>. Notably, this proto is a "one size fits all" type deal rght now, so we did have to wrap a circle-scarf around our head to keep its 1280 x 1024 screens within our eyes view. Thankfully, our horn-rimmed glasses did fit inside with no issue.<br /><br />So, what's it like? An array of cameras on it's face scan the environment to react to your heads position and any movement you make. We were able to spin, tilt, walk around and even jump, with the virtual world on screen following suite -- all while looking like a confused and lost puppy to anyone passing by. We're told video refreshes at 60hz, but sadly, we were faced with stuttery visuals in our use. The unit is also capable of tracking hand movements, but we can't say we were able to make use of the privilege -- instead, a controller made up for the interim. Considering that Sensic's head-tracking 3D goggles do all of the above in a completely self-contained fashion, we can't help but think that there's lots of potential for the tech. The question remains, however, as to whether the experience and the hardware can be smoothed to bring the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/minorityreport"><em>Minority Report</em></a>-style of AR closer to a retail reality. Head on past the break for a video of us trying out Sensic's headset for ourselves-- trust us, you're in for a treat.<br /><br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sensics-head-tracking-3d-goggles-hands-on/">Sensics head-tracking 3D goggles hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sensics-head-tracking-3d-goggles-hands-on/#4733622"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/dsc00672_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sensics-head-tracking-3d-goggles-hands-on/#4733614"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/dsc00668_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sensics-head-tracking-3d-goggles-hands-on/#4733624"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/dsc00665_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sensics-head-tracking-3d-goggles-hands-on/#4733616"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/dsc00669_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sensics-head-tracking-3d-goggles-hands-on/#4733620"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/dsc00671_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/10/sensics-head-tracking-3d-goggles-hands-on-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sensics head-tracking 3D Smart goggles hands-on (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/10/sensics-head-tracking-3d-goggles-hands-on-video/">Sensics head-tracking 3D Smart goggles hands-on (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 10 Jan 2012 01:31:00 EST. We're seated here at Samsung's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/09/live-from-samsungs-ces-2012-press-event/">2012 CES press event</a>, and the company just revealed that it'll be matching rival LG's 55-inch OLED TV... when a 55-inch OLED TV of its own. Not surprisingly, the outfit's trumpeting its terrific color reproduction, the virtual absence of motion blur and face recognition. Sadly, there's not even a model number to mark down, and a price estimate should be even harder to find. It is, however, expected to ship in the latter half of 2012. There's no color filter needed here, either, as the self-emitting RGB sub-pixels take care of themselves; since light output on the Super OLED is controlled on a pixel-to-pixel basis, you can rest assured that your blacks will be deep and your whites bright. Other specs include a dual-core processor and 3D support. We'll be doing everything we can to get a peek at one, so keep it locked for more as we heard it.<br />

Samsung's CES 2012 press conference is going on right now, and it's unveiling new products including the top of the line ES8000 LED model that packs a dual core CPU to run its apps, and an integrated camera and microphone for "Smart Interaction". Beyond that, the "Smart Evolution" feature will let users swap out that dual core processor for something heftier later on if they want to upgrade. Finally "Smart Content" is the umbrella term for a wave content and apps including, of course, <em>Angry Birds</em>, and an upgraded version of AllShare that pulls from the cloud, and can even control other compatible devices. The ES8000 edge lit LED line ranges in size from 46- to 65-inches, and features Smart Interaction cameras and mics for videoconferencing as well as voice and gesture control. LG's <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/09/live-from-lgs-ces-2011-press-event/">press conference</a> at CES this morning was a surprisingly light-hearted and breezy affair, clocking it at around 45 minutes and bringing with it more than its share of bad jokes. There was, however, one dramatic moment -- you could actually hear the audience audibly gasp when the company unveiled its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/25/lgs-55-inch-worlds-largest-oled-hdtv-panel-is-official-comi/">55-inch OLED HDTV</a>.<br />
	<br />
	When the curtain came off, it revealed a thing of beauty, clear from even a ways back in the room. The model is still in the fairly early stages, but the whole "ultra definition" thing that the company promised is quite clear, even more so when you step closer to the thing -- looking into it really feels like looking out a window. This thing is crazy sharp. Even more impressive is the size of the thing -- it's 55-inches, and only a mere 5mm thin -- so thin it was tough to properly photograph, and the bezel was fairly hard to spot as well. The company has promised to show of the display in the days to come at CES -- pricing and availability, not so much. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lgs-55-inch-worlds-largest-oled-hdtv-eyes-on/">LG's 55-inch 'world's largest' OLED HDTV eyes-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lgs-55-inch-worlds-largest-oled-hdtv-eyes-on/#4728301"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/lg-55-incher2011-05-0222-01-55800_thumbnail.jpg" alt="LG's 55-inch 'world's largest' OLED HDTV eyes-on" title="LG's 55-inch 'world's largest' OLED HDTV eyes-on" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lgs-55-inch-worlds-largest-oled-hdtv-eyes-on/#4728305"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/lg-55-incher2011-05-0222-02-31800_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lgs-55-inch-worlds-largest-oled-hdtv-eyes-on/#4728307"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/lg-55-incher2011-05-0222-02-44800_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lgs-55-inch-worlds-largest-oled-hdtv-eyes-on/#4728308"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/lg-55-incher2011-05-0222-23-27800_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/lgs-55-inch-worlds-largest-oled-hdtv-eyes-on/#4728309"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2012/01/lg-55-incher2011-05-0222-24-02800_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/09/lgs-55-inch-worlds-largest-oled-hdtv-eyes-on/">LG's 55-inch 'world's largest' OLED HDTV eyes-on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 09 Jan 2012 12:47:00 EST. Hope you're in the mood to pour one out, because the <i>Daily Yomiuri Online</i> has just confirmed that Sony is giving up the OLED TV in its consumer business. According to the report, it has discontinued production of OLED TV sets for the mainstream market, and while it'll continue selling 'em to its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/04/12/sony-keeps-oled-hope-alive-with-budget-monitor-line-video/">corporate clients</a>, it'll concentrate the home-use TV portion on LCD models. For historians in attendance, they'll no doubt (fondly) recall the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/01/the-sonydrive-xel-1-oled-tv-1-000-000-1-contrast-starting-decem/">XEL-1</a> -- a devilishly thin personal OLED TV that never stood a chance at filling anything other than a luxury niche. The same sect will also remember that it discontinued OLED TV sales <i>domestically</i> <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/15/sonys-coo-says-no-new-oled-tvs-in-2010-bravia-internet-video-l/">back in 2010</a>, but exports to America and Europe continued up until now. The real question? Whether or not those <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/26/sonys-rollable-oled-display-can-wrap-around-a-pencil-our-heart/">rollable OLEDs</a> are still getting researched in a Sony lab; the futurist in us can only pray so.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/07/sony-kills-oled-tv-business-consumer-market/">Sony quits OLED TV in the consumer market, we quietly shelve hopes for the XEL-2</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 07 Jan 2012 17:08:00 EST. Well, it looks like Sensics is going to give <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/31/sonys-head-mounted-3d-visor-is-real-hmz-t1-arrives-in-japan-no/">Sony some competition</a> in the high-end, head-mounted display arena with a new 3D head-mounted display. Like the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/08/31/sony-hmz-t1-headset-hits-ifa-we-go-hands-on-video/">HMZ-T1</a>, Sensics' Natalia headset has dual OLED screens and can connect to consoles, PCs, or phones to let you see your favorite movies and games in 3D. Unlike the Sony, Natalia sports higher-res 1280 x 1024 screens, and isn't simply a display: it has a 1.2GHZ dual-core CPU and 1GB of memory, an SD card slot, WiFi, Bluetooth, and runs Android 4.0. That means that it can be used as a standalone device, and the company's libSensics app programming interface gives devs the tools needed to create software for the new platform. Oh, and did we mention that Sensics' headset does 360-degree head tracking, and can track your hands to allow for immersive AR user experiences (think <em>Minority Report</em>). The final feather in her cap? Though Natalia can run on DC power, she also has hot-swappable batteries so you aren't tethered to an outlet. Sensics isn't telling how much this nifty bit of kit will cost, but the company's aiming for a late 2012 release and will be showing the headset off at CES next week -- where we'll be getting hands on with it and will let you know how well (and if) it works.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/05/sensics-natalia-head-tracking-3d-goggles/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sensics Natalia head-tracking 3D goggles work alone or with PCs, consoles and phones</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/05/sensics-natalia-head-tracking-3d-goggles/">Sensics Natalia head-tracking 3D goggles work alone or with PCs, consoles and phones</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 05 Jan 2012 13:38:00 EST. While building the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/25/lgs-55-inch-worlds-largest-oled-hdtv-panel-is-official-comi/">world's first 55-inch OLED TV panel</a> is nice, it's not worth much unless you put an actual TV around it and LG Electronics will have the total package on display next week at CES. Today's press release reveals more about LG's "4-Color Pixel" and Color Refiner technology it's implementing to bring consistent, accurate colors that it claims will beat other OLED TV's abnormal color gamut. LG's press release doesn't mention production plans or pricing, but all of this is squeezed into a frame that's just 4mm thick with a narrow bezel and weight of 7.5kg -- we'll let our eyes decide on the quality of its colors once we meet in person.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/01/lg-details-55-inch-oled-tv-will-show-off-its-true-colors-at-ces/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>LG details 55-inch OLED TV, will show off its true colors at CES 2012</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2012/01/01/lg-details-55-inch-oled-tv-will-show-off-its-true-colors-at-ces/">LG details 55-inch OLED TV, will show off its true colors at CES 2012</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 01 Jan 2012 19:35:00 EST. We only have a few more days left until the festivities truly kick off at CES 2012 in Las Vegas, but LG has already tipped its hand with a press release promising the "world's largest" OLED panel for the show. We've seen <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/03/lgs-31-inch-oled-spin-slices-its-way-into-our-cold-lcd-hearts/">smaller screens from LG before</a> and it had already <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/23/lg-promises-55-inch-oled-tv-in-2012-just-in-time-the-next-bak/">promised a 55-inch OLED HDTV for mid-2012</a>, so this news is just another sign the company is ready to take its technology mainstream. LG's tech uses white OLEDs overlaid with colors, which it claims makes for a lower error rate and clearer "ultra definition" screen, with more colors than standard LCDs. Check after the break for one more promo pic of LG's super skinny 5mm prototype, we'll get a better look at it (and the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/22/samsung-in-last-stage-talks-to-use-google-tv-will-show-off-ha/">inevitable competition</a> from Korean rival Samsung) at the company's booth January 9th.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/25/lgs-55-inch-worlds-largest-oled-hdtv-panel-is-official-comi/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>LG's 55-inch 'world's largest' OLED HDTV panel is official, coming to CES 2012</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/25/lgs-55-inch-worlds-largest-oled-hdtv-panel-is-official-comi/">LG's 55-inch 'world's largest' OLED HDTV panel is official, coming to CES 2012</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sun, 25 Dec 2011 21:37:00 EST. The true second act of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/googletv">Google TV</a> won't take place until new hardware hits the streets, and <i>Reuters</i> reports that while Samsung is <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/11/16/samsung-looks-to-get-down-with-google-tv-in-2011/">still on board</a>, it will unveil its product(s) next year at an event other than CES. There's no word on when or where we might see hardware from other partners like <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/12/lg-might-show-off-google-tv-hardware-at-ces/">LG</a>, but at last year's show Vizio and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/07/samsung-shows-off-google-tv-companion-box-and-blu-ray-player/">Samsung</a> (pictured above) were the only ones to display their efforts. TV division prez Yoon Boo-keun confirmed the company was working with Google on the rollout, and apparently indicated Samsung's service would "differ" from competitors. We'll have to find out what that means, but in the meantime what we can expect to see in Las Vegas are <a href="http://hd.engadget.com/tag/oled">OLED</a> TVs, which he said Samsung would have on display. After being teased by countless <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/01/samsung-slaps-production-ready-label-on-14-1-and-31-inch-oled/">concepts</a>, we'll be keeping our eyes peeled for price tags and shipping dates, but those details will likely remain under wraps until January.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/22/samsung-in-last-stage-talks-to-use-google-tv-will-show-off-ha/">Samsung in 'last-stage talks' to use Google TV, will show off hardware after CES</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 22 Nov 2011 00:31:00 EST. Sony announced a heap of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/05/sony-reveals-3d-capturing-cyber-shot-cameras-includes-worlds-f/">new Cyber-shot cameras</a> earlier this week, and after spying the entire line posing Miss America-style at Sony's CES booth, we decided to go hands on. The DSC-TX100V's OLED screen, which is a Cyber-shot first, was definitely impressive in terms of clarity, brightness and color reproduction -- despite only viewing a fellow convention goer obstructing the booth. The DSC-TX10 is also one the classiest looking ruggedized camera we've ever seen and thankfully lacks accents such as <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/21/pentaxs-rugged-w90-ultra-zoom-x90-now-all-but-official/">excessive rubber detailing</a>. Sony wasn't really down with us testinghow much grief it could actually take though. Similarly, we had hoped to check out the DSC-WX10's 1920 x 1080 60fps video capture mode -- since it's the only digital compact to support it -- but that idea got shut down the moment a few Sony VIPs arrived. Still, we did manage to take a few shots of each in the wilds of the convention center which you can check out in the gallery below. <br />

After hearing about <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/04/mitsubishis-big-year-at-ces-includes-92-inch-dlp-155-inch-ol/">Mitsubishi's 92-inch DLP</a> we just had to get our eyes on it and sure enough, we spotted models lurking around CES, along with the 155-inch display made up of OLED panels. There's not much to say about the DLP that we didn't cover during our 3D roundup, it's just bigger, with other changes and details still TBA -- we're waiting for 'em to cross the 100-inch mark -- while the OLED seemed suited to its potential purpose of lighting up stadiums and other similar areas, with rather impressive viewing angles although the seams in the panels were quite apparent up close.<br />

Sony has announced the DSC-TX100V, DSC-TX10, DSC-HX7V, DSC-WX10 and DSC-WX9 16.2-megapixel Cyber-shot cameras here in Las Vegas, which are the world's first compacts to include a 3D still capture feature using just one lens and imager. This is made possible via a special shooting mode that takes two consecutive shots in different focus positions that are then combined to produce a 3D effect. All also feature so-called Dual Rec technology borrowed from the Handycam line that enables users to capture three megapixel stills while recording video. <br />
<br />
Outside of what they have in common, several of the models have a few noteworthy details. The DSC-WX10 is the only digital compact to support full 1920 x 1080/60p video capture. Speaking of firsts, the DSC-TX100V is the first Cyber-shot to to feature a 3.5-inch OLED touch screen. Less revolutionary (but still drool-worthy) is the DSC-HX7V's ability to record the location and direction of a particular photos thanks to a built-in GPS and compass, while the DSC-TX10 is ruggedized to be waterproof, dustproof, shockproof and freeze-proof. All of these models will be available this March, and cost between $220 and $380. For more details be sure to check out the full PR after the jump. <br />

So far 3DTV hasn't increased sales by as much as predicted, but LG Display thinks it can turn that around with three simple letters: FPR (branded Cinema 3D by its consumer arm <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/05/live-from-lgs-ces-2011-press-event/">earlier today</a>.) Standing for Film Pattern Retarder, it places a thin film over the LCD (there's no plans for plasma products) that allows 3D viewing with cheap, passive polarized 3D glasses instead of expensive and heavier active shutter glasses. LG plans to stop manufacturing active shutter 3D displays soon. That will further open the door for FPR, due in April in the USA, to take over with a 4K2K display to arrive this year and plans for a OLED model in 2012. We took a tour through LG Display's house of active shutter horrors (as seen above, grammar aside) and sat in for the press conference, check the gallery for a few pictures plus more on what this means for 3D and a quick promotional video.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/05/lg-display-shows-why-it-thinks-3dtv-has-a-shot-with-passive-glas/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>LG Display thinks it can fix 3DTV with passive glasses &amp; FPR</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/05/lg-display-shows-why-it-thinks-3dtv-has-a-shot-with-passive-glas/">LG Display thinks it can fix 3DTV with passive glasses &amp; FPR</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 05 Jan 2011 17:16:00 EST. As we <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/06/3dtv-roundup-lg-mitsubishi-panasonic-samsung-and-sony-square/">mentioned in our 3D roundup</a>, the advantage of Mitsubishi sticking to DLP technology for its HDTVs is easily seen in square inches per dollar spent, and they're going to push that even further by introducing a 92-inch HDTV in 2011. We should get our eyes on the monster and its new "Clear Contrast" screen at the CES Unveiled event tonight, but you'll excuse us if we're slightly distracted by the 155-inch OLED that will apparently be on hand from its business division. No word yet on price or release date for the 92-incher, check out another picture and all available details in the press release after the break.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/04/mitsubishis-big-year-at-ces-includes-92-inch-dlp-155-inch-ol/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Mitsubishi's 'big year' at CES includes 92-inch DLP, 155-inch OLED displays</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2011/01/04/mitsubishis-big-year-at-ces-includes-92-inch-dlp-155-inch-ol/">Mitsubishi's 'big year' at CES includes 92-inch DLP, 155-inch OLED displays</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 04 Jan 2011 09:17:00 EST. Remember those elegant <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/11/oled-becomes-art-your-bank-account-becomes-empty-video/">mantelpieces with OLED infusion</a> launched at <a href="http://www.engadget.com/ces">CES</a>? Turns out they're from a company called Nanobrick that dubs this product range Miyoul. Most of the 11 models sport multiple screens -- either 3.3-inch or 4.1-inch -- but such indulgence seems to be out of touch with current OLED prices, not to mention the cost of craftsmanship on top of that. Until the day we can afford a Miyoul in each room, just keep trying your lucky lottery numbers. <div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nanobrick-miyoul-oled-media-frames/">Nanobrick Miyoul OLED media frames</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nanobrick-miyoul-oled-media-frames/#2616226"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/01/flowersmediaframe-01122010_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nanobrick-miyoul-oled-media-frames/#2616227"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/01/crystal-3-oled-design-01122010_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nanobrick-miyoul-oled-media-frames/#2616228"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/01/oled-crystal-desing-nanobrick-01122010_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nanobrick-miyoul-oled-media-frames/#2616229"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/01/crystal-oled-media-frame-01122010_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/nanobrick-miyoul-oled-media-frames/#2616230"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2010/01/ceramicoled-mediaframe-01122010_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/13/nanobrick-miyoul-oled-media-frames-are-for-your-luxurious-inner/">Nanobrick Miyoul OLED media frames are for your luxurious inner-self</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 13 Jan 2010 08:49:00 EST. We're still on the cusp of an OLED revolution for home entertainment -- or at least we're still holding out hope that we are. We'd planned on having big-screen displays by now but we're instead still dealing with tiny ones along with a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/oled,ces">never-ending series of concepts</a>. This latest use, spotted at last week's CES, adds a little artistic flair to the technology, staggering a series of displays and synchronizing the video across them to create some lovely results. We're not really into the whole lacquered boat look, but the fan-like array of displays is quite interesting to say the least. As is the cost: from $100 all the way up to $100,000. You could buy a lot of <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/oled,xel-1">XEL-1 TVs</a> for that money. Video after the break.<p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/11/oled-becomes-art-your-bank-account-becomes-empty-video/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>OLED becomes art, your bank account becomes empty (video)</em></a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/11/oled-becomes-art-your-bank-account-becomes-empty-video/">OLED becomes art, your bank account becomes empty (video)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 11 Jan 2010 10:09:00 EST. Beautiful viewing angle and legitimately wide viewing angle, the <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/StudioXPS/">Studio XPS</a> 16 <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/OLED/">OLED</a> concept laptop was on hand and turning heads at Dell's CES suite. It's definitely a beaut, claiming a super-thin 2mm screen, a 0.004ms response time, and a contrast ratio "exceeding 10,000:1." The big catch here, as you can see in some of the images below (the giant "Please Do Not Touch" sign deterred us from fixing ourselves) is that the ultra-glossy wrist panel is a beacon for dust. Hey! Don't run away just because this here display has <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/3d">3D</a> in its name -- it's optional don't you know. Sony is showing off its 24.5-inch OLED television here at CES, and we have to admit to being blown away once more by the sheer vibrancy and clarity of the output. The jump from the 15-inch panels that are still <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/04/lg-oled-tv-spotted-in-korean-store-showing-james-camerons-magnu/">very sparsely</a> available in retail channels is most welcome. We can totally envision spending our happily ever after with one of these screens serving all of our visual needs, 3D or otherwise. Sony's reps couldn't tell us <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/17/sonys-big-plans-for-oled-hdtvs-may-slip-to-next-year/">when</a> these will make it to market, but the pics below should whet appetites appropriately.<br />

We know exactly what you were thinking when you first heard the news that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/04/kodak-selling-oled-display-business-to-lg-cross-licensing-like/">Kodak was selling its OLED</a> business to LG: 1) wait, Kodak had an OLED business, and b) who the hell will I buy my <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/09/17/kodak-stuns-with-worlds-first-7-6-inch-oled-picture-frame/">$1,000 OLED digital photo frame</a> from now? The latter part of this conundrum has just been answered by Samsung who will unveil its 700Z Digital Photo Frame here at CES. Sammy's offering boasts a 7-inch AMOLED display, 4GB of internal memory, Bluetooth with video support. Unfortunately, the frame's million-to-1 contrast ratio isn't enough to distract this product model from her dreams of beauty pageant stardom.<p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/05/samsung-flirts-coyly-with-7-inch-amoled-digital-photo-frame/">Samsung flirts coyly with 7-inch AMOLED Digital Photo Frame</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 05 Jan 2010 08:50:00 EST. <div>OLEDs have still yet to tackle the basics, getting bigger and cheaper, yet here's Samsung doing some funky stuff with them. The company will have three displays doing their thing this evening, the first being a 14-inch, 960 x 540 display that can switch between two channels fast enough to enable 3D viewing. It has a contrast ratio of 100,000:1, a greater than NTSC color gamut, and a predictably delectable 1.6mm thickness. Next up is another 14-inch model but with a different trick: it's transparent. We've <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/04/20/transparent-oled-rearview-mirror-both-dazzles-and-distracts/">seen such things</a> before, but never at this scale. Finally we have some further information about that <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/06/19/video-samsungs-e-passport-turns-your-head-into-a-rotating-gove/">passport-sized OLED display</a> showed off earlier this year. It's only two-inches in width, but interestingly it's powered entirely by RF, so no direct power source or battery is required; when paired with an RFID the display will power on when the card is scanned. That leaves us to wonder if these will be harder or easier to duplicate than existing forms of identification, but unfortunately our forgery expert McLovin could not be reached for comment. </div><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2010/01/05/samsung-to-demo-a-trio-of-innovative-oled-displays/">Samsung to demo a trio of innovative OLED displays</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 05 Jan 2010 00:39:00 EST. <a href="http://www.engadgethd.com/category/oled/">OLED</a> displays were out in full force this year, with Samsung bringing plenty of its own to showcase to CES onlookers. We already had a chance to check out a snazzy <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/09/oled-association-and-samsung-show-flexible-screen/">folding OLED late last week</a>, but <em>CNET</em> was able to capture a few more for good measure. The most notable were the 3.3-inch "3D" AMOLED display (with a WQVGA resolution) and the 7.01-inch AMOLED panel, which was seen sporting a 1,024 x 600 resolution and a 30,000:1 contrast ratio. Flip through the gallery below for a few more looks, but don't get your hopes up too high for any near-term release dates.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.oled-display.net/pictures-from-samsung-mobile-display-3d-amoled-and-7-inch-iamoled">OLED-Display</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/12/samsung-shows-off-oled-display-collection-at-ces/">Samsung shows off OLED display collection at CES</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 12 Jan 2009 13:40:00 EST. Sony hasn't gotten very far along with these units -- they're really just plastic shells -- but we like we're they're headed with it. They showed off a full-screen laptop (pictured), bendable e-reader, and Walkman bracelet concepts, all based around <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/flexibleoled">flexible OLED </a>technology and built with "flexible bioplastics," along with the flexible display that going to power them all when they hit the market... in the year 2000.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sonys-flexible-oled-mockups/">Sony's flexible OLED mockups</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sonys-flexible-oled-mockups/#1284436"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/sony-oled-proto001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sonys-flexible-oled-mockups/#1284427"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/sony-oled-proto002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sonys-flexible-oled-mockups/#1284431"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/sony-oled-proto003_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sonys-flexible-oled-mockups/#1284426"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/sony-oled-proto004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sonys-flexible-oled-mockups/#1284430"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/sony-oled-proto005_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/laptops/" rel="tag">Laptops</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/12/sonys-flexible-oled-mockups/">Sony's flexible OLED mockups</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Mon, 12 Jan 2009 11:36:00 EST. We've been trying to get a legitimate hands-on with <a href="http://engadget.com/tag/Sony">Sony's</a> OLED-infused Walkman since <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/07/sony-unveils-walkman-nwz-x1000-oled-touchscreen-player/">we first caught</a> the device on Wednesday, but security's been super tight in the Sony booth and we couldn't distract anyone long enough to unscrew the casing. So we can't get an actual hands-on with the Walkman, but we don't need to touch it to know that the OLED is seriously gorgeous and the UI looks super crisp. Sony's reluctance to pull this out of its casing seems to show the player's not ready for primetime, but we'll keep trying to get something a bit more gratifying.<br /><br /><strong>Update: </strong>Engadget Spanish got a video of the device in action, so check after the jump if you wanna see more and learn a little espa&ntilde;ol. <br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sony-oled-walkman-nwz-x1000-eyes-on/">Sony OLED Walkman NWZ-X1000 eyes-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sony-oled-walkman-nwz-x1000-eyes-on/#1276213"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/ces-sony-oled-walkman-0_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sony-oled-walkman-nwz-x1000-eyes-on/#1276214"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/ces-sony-oled-walkman-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sony-oled-walkman-nwz-x1000-eyes-on/#1276215"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/ces-sony-oled-walkman-5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sony-oled-walkman-nwz-x1000-eyes-on/#1276216"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/ces-sony-oled-walkman-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sony-oled-walkman-nwz-x1000-eyes-on/#1276217"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/ces-sony-oled-walkman-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/10/sony-oled-walkman-nwz-x1000-eyes-on/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sony OLED Walkman NWZ-X1000 eyes-on</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ces/" rel="tag">CES</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/10/sony-oled-walkman-nwz-x1000-eyes-on/">Sony OLED Walkman NWZ-X1000 eyes-on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 10 Jan 2009 16:41:00 EST. Kodak's 7.6-inch OLED WiFi digiframe, which we <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/08/kodak-oled-picture-frame-hands-on/">just saw in the flesh yesterday</a>, has already been listed for a full $150 cheaper than expected. Of course, an immediate price drop was definitely in order given the $1,000 starting tag, but we can't even say we're tempted at a few bucks under $800. Ah well, at least we're headed in the right direction.<br /><br />[Thanks, Ron]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ces/" rel="tag">CES</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/digitalcameras/" rel="tag">Digital Cameras</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/10/kodaks-7-6-inch-oled-wifi-digiframe-now-200-cheaper/">Kodak's 7.6-inch OLED WiFi digiframe now $200 cheaper </a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Sat, 10 Jan 2009 01:28:00 EST. Totally over the top and ridiculously expensive, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/04/video-first-look-at-kodaks-7-6-inch-oled-photo-frame/">Kodak's 7.6-inch OLED picture frame</a> is still a serious <em>want</em>. The image was every bit as beautiful as we expected but surprised us with the frame's ability to playback HD video in such a fluid manner. The touch-controls along the bezel did what we wanted with little thought, albeit, with some lag. Not horrible but certainly annoying if we ever decide to hand Kodak $1,000 to take one home.<br /><br /><strong>Update:</strong> We spoke to Kodak's product manager who gave us another spin with the frame -- this time with WiFi turned off. Voila, the lag was gone. Turns out the previous unit was struggling to connect to the encrypted WiFi network on the crowded convention center floor. Problem solved.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/kodak-oled-picture-frame-hands-on/">Kodak OLED picture frame hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/kodak-oled-picture-frame-hands-on/#1269673"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/kodak_oled0001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/kodak-oled-picture-frame-hands-on/#1269678"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/kodak_oled0004_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/kodak-oled-picture-frame-hands-on/#1269679"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/kodak_oled0008_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/kodak-oled-picture-frame-hands-on/#1269674"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/kodak_oled0009_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/kodak-oled-picture-frame-hands-on/#1269675"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/kodak_oled0010_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ces/" rel="tag">CES</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/08/kodak-oled-picture-frame-hands-on/">Kodak OLED picture frame hands-on (updated)</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Thu, 08 Jan 2009 18:16:00 EST. As <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/06/wrist-worn-flexible-oled-prototype-is-for-the-military-but-kids/">promised</a>, Universal Display Corporation had its 4-inch, flexible, wrist-worn OLED display designed for military use (and nerds) here at CES. We <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/30/oqo-bringing-atom-powered-model-2-umpc-to-ces/">already knew</a> a fresh OQO handheld would be headed to Digital Experience! here at CES, and lo and behold the model 2+ has arrived in our oh-so-fortunate hands. The 800 x 480 (native) OLED touchscreen was positively gorgeous to look at, and the Qualcomm Gobi dual-mode HSPA / EV-DO WWAN chipset was much appreciated. It's also sporting a 1.86GHz Intel Atom CPU, 2GB of RAM, WiFi / Bluetooth, DirectX 9 and H.264 video decode support, 3.5 hours of battery life (7 hours on the double capacity cell), a world keyboard and a global power supply. The unit checks in at under a pound and can support 1,9200 x 1,200 external displays with HDMI / DVI / VGA interfaces. Get ready to lust after one (we already are) when it ships in 1H 2009 starting at $999.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/oqo-officially-launches-gobi-oled-equipped-model-2-we-get-hands-on/">OQO officially launches Gobi / OLED-equipped model 2+, we get hands-on</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/oqo-officially-launches-gobi-oled-equipped-model-2-we-get-hands-on/#1265677"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/jas-oqo-ces-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/oqo-officially-launches-gobi-oled-equipped-model-2-we-get-hands-on/#1265676"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/jas-oqo-ces-1_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/oqo-officially-launches-gobi-oled-equipped-model-2-we-get-hands-on/#1265675"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/jas-oqo-ces-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/oqo-officially-launches-gobi-oled-equipped-model-2-we-get-hands-on/#1265674"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/jas-oqo-ces-4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/oqo-officially-launches-gobi-oled-equipped-model-2-we-get-hands-on/#1265673"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/jas-oqo-ces-0_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><br /><br />[Via <a href="http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20090107-oqo-launches-worlds-smallest-vista-pc-with-oled-screen-see-notes.html">ArsTechnica</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ces/" rel="tag">CES</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/handhelds/" rel="tag">Handhelds</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/07/oqo-officially-launches-gobi-oled-equipped-model-2-we-get-ha/">OQO officially launches Gobi / OLED-equipped model 2+, we get hands-on</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 07 Jan 2009 23:33:00 EST. While <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/xel-1">Sony's OLED TV</a> is little more than a beautiful, 11-inch novelty, LG is swaggering dangerously close to a respectable kitchen TV with this 15-inch AMOLED TV prototype. On display here at CES and planned for a <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/07/lg-to-produce-15-inch-oled-panel-this-summer/">production run sometime this summer</a>, the image is absolutely stunning -- every bit as impressive as the Sony's XEL-1. Nothing else compares to the incredible contrast achieved by these OLED displays. Have a look in the gallery -- we've got the prototype pictured with and without its chubby TV bezel. It's credit-card thin (0.8-mm) and only on <em>Engadget</em>.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/eyes-on-with-lgs-15-inch-oled-tv-shipping-this-summer/">Eyes on with LG's 15-inch OLED TV shipping this summer</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/eyes-on-with-lgs-15-inch-oled-tv-shipping-this-summer/#1265125"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/lg_oled_tv0000_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/eyes-on-with-lgs-15-inch-oled-tv-shipping-this-summer/#1265162"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/lg_oled_tv00022_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/eyes-on-with-lgs-15-inch-oled-tv-shipping-this-summer/#1265132"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/lg_oled_tv001_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/eyes-on-with-lgs-15-inch-oled-tv-shipping-this-summer/#1265163"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/lg_oled_tv00122_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/eyes-on-with-lgs-15-inch-oled-tv-shipping-this-summer/#1265128"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/lg_oled_tv002_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/07/eyes-on-with-lgs-near-production-15-inch-oled-tv-come-on-summe/">Eyes on with LG's near-production 15-inch OLED TV: come on summer</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 07 Jan 2009 20:37:00 EST. Sony's press event is just about to start, but we managed to sneak away and grab some snaps of the heavily-guarded new OLED touchscreen <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/07/sony-unveils-walkman-nwz-x1000-oled-touchscreen-player/">Walkman NWZ-X1000</a>. It's under some major glass and lights and we were working fast, so we apologize for any blurriness, but that's the price of exclusives, kids. Check back soon for the official shots during the presser -- and don't worry, we're on the hunt for the VAIO P.<br /><div class="postgallery"><p><strong>Gallery: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sony-touchscreen-walkman-nwz-x1000-oled-player-hands-on-1/">Sony touchscreen Walkman NWZ-X1000 OLED player hands-on!</a></strong></p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sony-touchscreen-walkman-nwz-x1000-oled-player-hands-on-1/#1264944"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/2008-12-07sonyx-4_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sony-touchscreen-walkman-nwz-x1000-oled-player-hands-on-1/#1264942"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/2008-12-07sonyx_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sony-touchscreen-walkman-nwz-x1000-oled-player-hands-on-1/#1264941"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/2008-12-07sonyx-5_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sony-touchscreen-walkman-nwz-x1000-oled-player-hands-on-1/#1264940"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/2008-12-07sonyx-2_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a><a href="http://www.engadget.com/photos/sony-touchscreen-walkman-nwz-x1000-oled-player-hands-on-1/#1264939"><img src="http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2009/01/2008-12-07sonyx-3_thumbnail.jpg" alt="" title="" /></a></div><p><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/07/sony-touchscreen-walkman-nwz-x1000-oled-players-hands-on/" rel="bookmark">Continue reading <em>Sony touchscreen Walkman NWZ-X1000 OLED player hands-on!</em></a></p><p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/07/sony-touchscreen-walkman-nwz-x1000-oled-players-hands-on/">Sony touchscreen Walkman NWZ-X1000 OLED player hands-on!</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 07 Jan 2009 18:54:00 EST. If so, and if you can go without seeing Cookie Monster in his natural hue for a few more months, you may have another OLED replacement option after this summer. LG is indicating it will begin producing a 15-inch panel in June of this year. No word on whether it'll match the Sony's 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, but it <em>will </em>offer a higher resolution of 1,366 x 768, and LG is pledging a 30,000 hour shelf life. Just when we thought <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/SanDisk/">SanDisk</a> had taken a hint and stopped promoting its <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/slotMusic/">slotMusic</a> initiative entirely, in flies this. Quite honestly, we weren't aware that it could get any worse, but this friends, is worse. The Sansa slotRadio player includes a fairly intriguing 1.5-inch OLED display, a useful FM tuner and a slotRadio card with 1,000 hits that were "handpicked from the Billboard charts." Oh, and we hope you dig 'em (all of 'em), because there's no way to remove or alter them. For real. The device itself is expected to ship to three or four suckers early this year for $99.99, and additional 1,000 song, genre-specific slotRadio cards will be offered up separately at $39.99 apiece. And we thought the NOW That's What I Call Music! theme was a train wreck -- way to show 'em what a real disaster looks like, SanDisk.<br /><br />[Via <a href="http://www.oled-display.net/sandisk-launches-slotradio-player-with-a-15-inch-oled">OLED-Display</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/ces/" rel="tag">CES</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portableaudio/" rel="tag">Portable Audio</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/portablevideo/" rel="tag">Portable Video</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/07/sandisk-slotradio-player-comes-with-jam-packed-card-like-now-b/">SanDisk slotRadio player comes with jam-packed card: like NOW, but infinitely worse</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 07 Jan 2009 04:15:00 EST. Flexible OLED displays are becoming more and more commonplace (and <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/17/ge-builds-an-oled-holiday-tree-makes-mistletoe-out-of-disused-r/">festive</a>), despite not actually being available in any devices you can buy just yet. When that day finally comes, Universal Display Corporation thinks one of those gadgets will be something like the above: a wearable, flexible, 4-inch prototype screen that CES attendees will be able to check out and maybe even try on -- albeit uncomfortably. It's been developed with military applications in mind (they always get the cool stuff first), but bendy consumer devices are naturally envisioned as well. There's no word on when we'll start seeing them in <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/05/20/samsung-demonstrates-e-passport-with-flexible-oled-display/">passports</a> or <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/11/24/samsung-concept-phone-unfolds-to-hypnotize-onlookers-with-flexib/" target="_blank">flexi-phones</a>, but we're thinking we have a while to wait yet.<br /><br />[Warning: PDF link; via <a href="http://www.oled-display.net/udc-showcases-a-4-inch-flexible-amoled-prototype">OLED-DISPLAY.net</a>]<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/wearables/" rel="tag">Wearables</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/06/wrist-worn-flexible-oled-prototype-is-for-the-military-but-kids/">Wrist-worn flexible OLED prototype is for the military, but kids like it too</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Tue, 06 Jan 2009 10:18:00 EST. The writing has definitely <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/green/">been on the wall</a>, but CES 2009 is poised to be <em>the</em> showcase for energy-efficient HDTVs. With manufacturers <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/12/jvc-brags-about-smashing-energy-star-3-0-requirements/">jumping</a> out of the woodwork to trumpet their compliance with <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/EnergyStar30/">Energy Star 3.0</a>, <em>TWICE</em> expects a slew of top-tier TV manufacturers to boast about low power consumption numbers, and considering that a bunch of 'em will be demonstrating LED or OLED-based sets, we aren't surprised to hear it. Potentially more interesting, however, is the notion that "a number of plasma makers are expected to get into the power-savings act with models that significantly reduce draw levels in big-screen displays, taking away another advantage often cited by LCD TV competitors." In related news, we're expecting a record number of internet-connected sets, as TV manufacturers look to steal away market share currently held by <a href="http://www.engadget.com/tag/STB/">STB</a> makers. Sure, we won't see any <a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/08/no-new-hdtv-size-record-to-be-shattered-at-ces-2009/">panel size records shattered</a>, but we're already giddy at what Vegas will hold in just under a month.<p>Filed under: <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/industry/" rel="tag">Industry</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/displays/" rel="tag">Displays</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/dlp/" rel="tag">DLP</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/lcd/" rel="tag">LCD</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/lcos/" rel="tag">LCoS</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/plasma/" rel="tag">Plasma</a>, <a href="http://www.engadget.com/category/oled/" rel="tag">OLED</a></p><p style="padding:5px;background:#ddd;border:1px solid #ccc;clear:both;"><a href="http://www.engadget.com/2008/12/17/eco-friendly-well-connected-hdtvs-to-be-all-the-rage-at-ces-200/">Eco-friendly, well-connected HDTVs to be all the rage at CES 2009</a> originally appeared on <a href="http://www.engadget.com">Engadget</a> on Wed, 17 Dec 2008 16:41:00 EST.
