"Nuh uh! You can't do that! I have a forcefield!"If you've ever played with action figures as a child, you've probably bellowed those words. Your friend finds a way to infiltrate your G.I. Joe base, and the last resort is always a forcefield. Some mystical, magical protective layer that acts to prevent any harm coming to your team. Congratulations, you've just balanced out your friend's superior tactical abilities with your own ridiculousness.Balance is in the eye of the beholder. If you ask a group of World of Warcraft players which class is the most over-powered, they will all give different answers. Now that's balance. Lately in MMOs, we have this trend of eternal balance. Someone finds out that a warrior class can beat a mage class 2 out of 3 times, so the developers nerf the warrior to compensate. Then we find out the healer class can now beat the wimped-out warrior class, so they nerf the healer class. This trend continues until all classes basically suck and people leave the game for the next flavor of the month. Why must the bar always be lowered? Does this obsession with a preconceived equal playing field really help sell your game?

The news and analyses keep rolling in for Wrath of the Lich King. We've all got our pet talents and abilities we're psyched about. Everybody's going to get a shot in the arm. While Blizzard will balance and rebalance until release and then even after, some abilities stand out ad more exiting and powerful than others. Issenaril of Blood Furnace is afraid that Titan's Grip is going to be an over powered ability. The ability allows Warriors specced 46 points into the Fury tree to swing two two-handed weapons at a slowed speed. With a maximum of five points in this ability, the weapon speed will be decreased by 20 percent. He believes that this ability will massively increase Warrior DPS and make imbalanced in PvP. Liganu agrees that a 50 point Fury build will be helpful in battlegrounds, but it won't be as viable in arena combat.

In the never-ending cycle of patching, class-tweaking, and talent overhauls, most classes in any given game get their time in the spotlight as the flavor of the month. There has always been a certain sub-culture of lemmings within any given player base who flock to the most powerful classes simply because they represent the path of least resistance to the end-game. While these bandwagon riders are usually acknowledged for what they are, its difficult sorting out who is playing for power and who is playing for more sincere motives. At the same time, it's ostensibly a lot more fun behind at the top of this never-ending cycle than the bottom, so shouldn't players enjoy their moment in the sun, no matter how temporary? And so we ask you, dear Massively readers: Are the benefits of kicking butt in PvP or getting that coveted raid spot worth the cost of being lumped in with the power-hungry lemmings?

The comic this week was inspired by an email received from fellow blogger, Robin about something Krystalle says in response to a (sadly) common misspelling over chats. So dual credit for nudging me in that direction, ladies. I had to run with it once I had the starting idea in my head. The truth is, I am very grateful to both of my fellow bloggers in sparking this idea in my head. I hope they find the result of Robin's email fun, and I look forward to warping more ideas from them in the future. %Gallery-22361%
