EA DICE is about to release the first of Battlefield V's numerous major updates, and it's clear that the studio wants to start off on a strong note. "Overture" is launching December 4th with an intriguing (and apparently "emotional") single-player story, "The Last Tiger," as its centerpiece. You join an isolated Tiger tank crew in the last days of World War II as it not only tries to fend off the Allies in a hopeless last stand, but starts to "question the ideology" that led them to that situation. It might not represent a grand philosophical discussion, but it's weightier material than you might have expected for a free post-launch story.

Now that AT&T is willing to offer LTE on budget services like GoPhone, the floodgates are open: it just extended the faster cellular data to its Aio Wireless prepaid brand. An automatic update is rolling out that enables LTE on Aio customers' existing SIM cards when they're in one of the provider's coverage areas. To mark the occasion, the carrier is launching the ZTE Overture, a 4-inch phone packing LTE alongside a 4-inch display, Jelly Bean, a 5MP rear camera and an unspecified front shooter. Aio hasn't divulged pricing for the Overture, but we wouldn't expect a large outlay when the handset ships within the next month.

  • Promotional Consideration: Dragon Quest IV commercials were weird

With the Dragon Quest IV DS remake announced for the US and Europe this week, we thought it'd be good a time to dig up Enix's commercials for the original Famicom game's release in Japan. They're completely different from the retro ads used last November when the DS remake shipped. As with Squaresoft's chocobo commercials for Final Fantasy IV on the Super Famicom (launching a little over a year after Dragon Quest IV), these ads were just plain odd! They show hardly any in-game video, relying on logos and recognizable theme music instead. Gather your party and meet us in the fifth chapter, past the post break, for the commercials.

  • Heaven or Hell! Aksys bringing Guilty Gear 2 Overture to Xbox 360

Proving that old sprites never die (they just go 3D), upstart publisher Aksys has confirmed that it will release Arc System Works' "tactical action game" Guilty Gear 2: Overture in North America this fall for the Xbox 360. The game, which takes characters from the Guilty Gear 2D fighting game series and injects them into a kind of bizarre amalgamation of 3D action and strategy, cannot help but remind us of last year's Soul Calibur Legends...and we're less than enthused to put ourselves through that experience again without some measure of alcohol. The game is the latest attempt at reinventing the storied franchise, following 2004's Guilty Gear Isuka, which upped the ante by allowing up to 4 players slug it out in a chaotic battle royal. Overture instead turns its attention to the series' complicated, often convoluted post-apocalyptic storyline, with spiky-headed Sol Badguy and his rectangular sword leading the charge in large scale battles while "balancing resources and deploying troops." Frankly trying to wrap our heads around how this will all work has given us a headache, so we're just going to file this one away in our 'might be interesting' basket and go have a lie-down.%Gallery-18161%

  • Guilty Gear 2: Overture release set for Q3 2008

Today, Aksys Games announced that the anime fighting franchise that is Guilty Gear will be making its way exclusively to the Xbox 360 platform Q3 2008 with the release of Guilty Gear 2: Overture. But remember kids, Overture is not going to be a traditional Guilty Gear game. Overture is what is described as a 3D action game with elements of an RTS as you command an army into battle, so don't go into this looking forward to old school 2D sprite fighting. Aksys did reveal a few specifics, stating that Overture will allow for you to command 50 "servants" into battle and that the game will support Xbox Live multiplayer. Our only question, will die-hard Guilty Gear fanboys support a game that strays so very far from the traditional path?
